Funny. My first hunch is that he disguised himself as Bonolev. The talk about him being able to transform as well as apparently Chrollo not knowing about that ability made it strange.
It would also allow him to monitor Chrollo's movements from up close. -

It would also allow him to monitor Chrollo's movements from up close.Only then he wouldn't be free to pick off the others so I think if he disguised himself as Ryodan he would be one of those that get to roam around freely.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Karuto joined the Ryodan officially during GI so he obviously should be there.
Of course Hisoka posing as Irumi would be a logical choice as they have roughly the same height and Karuto could pretend to verify his identity letting him avoid the checks all the other 190 cm guys have to endure. My idea would be that Bono is Irumi so he can observe Kuroro while Hisoka kills of the rest. Mostly by the fact that the real Bono is from a proud warrior tribe and would likely have loved to challenge Hisoka himself like the others and because Illumi can shapeshift.
-
If I remember Kalluto join the troupe in order to grow stronger and kill his sister/brother?
Illumi and Hisoka always had great chemestry together and they do seem like good friends. Although I always wondered how they Hisoka and him didn't kill each other on their first meet. I guess possibly Hisoka was already obsessed with Chrollo or another prey so he left Illumi for later.
Anyway it does fit their relationship that he would hire Illumi to kill him in order to finally get a match. I hope this one will have a proper conclusion to it rather than the BS of the one with Chrollo where nothing was accomplished and mostly seemed like a gimmick.
-
Go go go! Hisoka as Illumi!!! Why the hell would Illumi mention Killua to these guys? Only Hisoka was when Gon and Killua went to them to try to get into the spiders.
Kacho hates her mom? Yep, like her even more.
Next chapter should return to other princes, my guess… and hope to see more of Biscuit.
-
Huh. I just saw a theory that Hisoka was the one that killed the Mafia girl.
-
Well, if he is trying to weaken Kuroro, that is the other power that he knew it was in the book.

I thought kalluto's motivations were to get strong enought to bring his brother back to the family
-
The problem I have with Neon being clown'ed is that it requires to Hisoka to know whom the ability belonged in the first place.
-
Hisoka was part of the spiders and even got his fortune told. I would say chances are he knew whom it belonged to in the first place.
-
Well, if he is trying to weaken Kuroro, that is the other power that he knew it was in the book.
Think kurapica will ever find out? Hisoka likes to push buttons and while I wouldnt call them friends I dont think kurapica would take that too well.
-
Hisoka's new plan to beat Chrollo… kill every other person on the planet with nen first so Chrollo has no powers.
-
I think it would be funny if on their quest for Hisoka by looking for anyone over 190 cm they go after Leorio. Maybe he'll have some plot relevance then.
-
This is a prime example of why I dislike Togashi's writing. If he's totally willing to dispose characters as soon as they're not relevant anymore, then there's no reason for me to care about any of the side characters when they're bound to be irrelevant sooner or later and get killed.
Why should I care about Kacho or any of the new characters introduced this arc when Togashi is gonna anticlimactically get rid of them whenever this ship plot ends? -
Why should I care about Kacho or any of the new characters introduced this arc
I don't the first prince and that sinister one are interesting though, they could remain till after arrival (if they do arrive:ninja:) or at least one of them would hopefully.
-
I don't think you are supposed to care about the princes, you are supposed to be invested on the intricacies of the plot around them not on them on a personal level.
-
Until Queen Oito goes out of her way to call you callous and unfeeling.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Togashi wants to have it both ways, to make you feel for the characters, and fear for teir lives and care for their desires, but also to vomit characters into the page and has in the past killed them with wanton abandon, and the threath of Hisoka, Kuroro, the princes themselves, and the dark continent itself that puts Netero, the King and "human ingenuety and cruelty" to shame.
-
What the fuck is this?
https://readms.net/r/hunter_x_hunter/378/4960/1And oh boy I have seen that parasitic worm recently.
-
Excelent, here come the BASTARD NON PRINCES!!! YAAAAYYY
-
Of course Prince Bateman would protect another psycho.
And the shitting on Nobunaga never endes, or gets old for that matter.
I'm beginning to think the ultimate Hisoka troll move would not be on the boat, but that's preposterous. -
I love HxH but I really do not understand Togashi: the guy just does an arc with hundreds of new characters, in which essentially everyone important in the manga is involved (the zodiacs, kurapika, leorio, the spiders, hisoka)… except the main character Gon is not involved at all.
It's like if One Piece did Marineford with all the strawhats except Luffy. I don't have doubts he will make it work and make it awesome but... why.
-
Best HxH arc confirmed !
This is hilarious. I'm amazed how Togashi really gives no fuck and introduces dozens of characters in each chapters. There is a lot of Junjit Ito (with an actual plot !) in this arc.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
At first I thought Morena Prude was Gyro
-
When they introduced female Jesus I was already laughing on how many more characters Togashi was introducing, then I turned the page expecting to see her lieutenant and… 22 NEW CHARACTERS!!!! I SCREAMED! I'm still laughing now.
That said, the mafia bosses/illegitimate successors definitely picked my interest more than the princes and Morena particularly was a character I instantly connected with, making her the first new character in this arc that I like (I love the "I found my purpose in trying to destroy the world". Although the montage behind her make it seems like her reasons will be something along the lines of "there are so much suffering and injustice", and that will be a big turnoff if it really goes that way).
Sadly that's a bad thing... Morena + the Spiders getting focus mean now I have things I am personally invested in, so, instead of enjoying the slow ride like I was up to this point, I will just want to see more of them and where the plot is heading to soon and become annoyed by the slow pace.Anyways, good to see the Spiders are smart enough to not go searching for Hisoka on their own.
-
…There's more characters...UGH...:getlost:
I'm starting to miss Alluka's convoluted ability...
Good thing is most of them will be dead soon so I don't have to care for them.
Though I will admit that I kinda like that the mafia heads are bastard child related to the Kakin royal family. It make sense that there will bastard children in a royal family.
I do find it interesting that they can't participate in the succession war & get their own nen beast.I feel like Togashi spend his break designing all the random characters & coming up with nen abilities. I hope Togashi remember Leorio still exist.
Morena's ability is actually pretty cool & it's nice to have a evil bastard 'princess' for a change.
-
I just realized that Morena's name is similar to the word Monera.
-
Morena is also the name of a goddess of winter.
https://www.slavorum.org/morena-and-legends-of-this-ancient-slavic-goddess-of-winter/ -
At first I thought Morena Prude was Gyro
I still think Gyro is Meleoron, and the backstory of him was misleading.

What are the arguments about this theory ? Invisible man and boy that is pushed to conceal his presence ?
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Also, the Phantom Troupe are the new Vinsmokes.
-
At this point, Togashi is just trolling with all the characters.
The clash between everyone is going to be insane…mafia, Phantom Troupe, Princes, and Zodiacs...throw in a mix of the underlying plot with Beyond, Pariston, and Ging happening in the bg. Almost makes me wish Pariston got to be on this ship and toy with everyone. I feel like this would be right up his alley.
-

He was fated to meet Gon in the future,he didn't stayed with the other ants and his human name is Jail, which goes quite close to Gyro in pronunciation.
-
But what's the point of giving him a flashback then ?
-
But what's the point of giving him a flashback then ?
What was the point of creating a fake consisting alphabet, or describe all the 100 cards of GI in the extra, or put all this characters in a battle royale on a boat? The answer, because he felt like it.

It's turkey sandwich all over again.
But my god this is getting real complicated, seeing how everything unfolds will be one hell of a ride.

The ship will explode and 95% of those characters will die before this whole mess could get anywhere close to its natural end.
Seriously, that would be funny.

It's Gon's punishment for what he did during the ant arc. He didn't end up dying but he lost his place as main character.
-
Gon's absence really doesn't bother me that much, Kurapika's story about revenge and redemption leads to more interesting situations. Gon wouldn't have any reason to board the ship to the DC 'cause his story already got resolved way back when he met Gin and Killua is sorta useless without him. I guess Killua still needs some resolution when it comes to his family, especially Illumi, but he could die during this trip for all we know. Leorio's got lots of potential since his character isn't tied down to one specific thing, so he can do whatever he wants.
The more I think about it the happier I am that Gon and Killua aren't around. -
Gon wouldnt have fit in this story, and him being good enough to affect things would mean that his nen cost would have even lesss consequences than they did. So im glad he aint here, maybe he can hightail it with killua to the DC after 3 years in universe
-
This is what is going to happen
Knov: hey Gon, I developed a new kind of ability. Now, time goes 10 times slower compared to the "human" world inside my dimension
Gon: wow great, I'll be able to read "faster" then. Let me spend a thousand year in it reading Hegel and whatnot
Knov: oké
*a few weeks after, in the "real" world *
Gon: wow I'm the new Gin. holy shit !! I've read EVERYTHING about mankind and the human world.
Knov: I have to bring supplies to the ship.
Gon: I'm coming. I NEED new stuff to learn. puts on a "knowledge is power" t-shirt cracks his knuckles smiles at the camera and jumps into Knov's dimensionAlso, for some reason. The characters that were in the kimera-ant arc (humans and ants) somehow happen to follow Gon.
-
I only read the first two of this return. I'm having huge arc fatigue waiting for something to finally happen. It's been 4 years now since the arc really began.

This theory doesn't work considering Welfrin knew Gyro back when he was a kid and confirmed his backstory because he said the two of them would drink themselves silly while trying to see who had the worst luck in terms of childhood.
-
But it has been less than 50 chapters, and I wouldn't count the Hisoka volume as this arc.
-

I fail to see your point, Meleoron never really digs into his past besides being fostered by Peggy if I recall so nothing goes against that possibility that Meleoron=Gyro but not as much as hellbent on vengeance as we were lead to believe.
-
The scarring newborn practice to denote legitimacy is flat-out horrific to me, and I have a feeling its happened in the real world too. Damn I hope the fat king gets messed up himself. Its imo one of the darkest things mentioned in HxH, the random killings of kids and whatever by the ants sure dark but understandable, this just seems so messed up.
-

It's the same as Naruto's Hyuga family's selection practice…
Besides... this is not One Piece, expect that shit from Oda.

Gon will definitely return, his absence seems so long because of the constant hiatuses, but so far it's just 30-something chapters, and while this still seems to be a long period, it really isn't, especially for Togashi. Don't forget how long Leorio and Kurapika were absent and then were seamlessly woven back into the plot. Also, don't forget that, so far, this just the set-up arc, Gon can easily get reintroduced whenever they reach the dark continent, the fake dark continent, or even the refueling island. Speaking of those, I wonder how many plot threads will carry on to those hypothetical arcs, and whether they'll be full fledged arcs or just some transitional chapters before getting to the dark continent.
People keep talking about how over complicated this arcs looks, but for all things considered, if you dissect the arc into different plot-lines, you'll find how they almost completely separate and just intersect in a few key points.
The main characters of these plot lines are:
1-Zodiacs, Beyond, Ging, Pariston and Temp Hunters for the main plot
2-13 Princes of Kakin with their nen-beast and body guards for succession war plot
3-Phantom Troupe and the Mafia for the hunting Hisoka plot
And while these initially look like inseparable plots, they really aren't. So far, I don't expect expect a nen-beast for example to be the thing that ends Hisoka's life, or a Zodiac (other than Kurapika) to be the one who ends the succession war. Of course these conflicts will dissolve with each other, but that will probably only happen when most of meat of these plot-lines get done with. Togashi can use several methods for this, the first method is keeping these plots parallel and only have them intertwine at the climax, or progress each of the plots and then end them individually with only a handful of characters that get to be kept for the second plot up the list, for example: the hunt for Hisoka ends with all participating parties dying except for Chrollo, Hisoka himself, and Morena, these characters then ascend to the succession war plot, and so on. Of course, Togashi can go all out and make any characters interact with each other, with no separation whatsoever, but that's a big if, considering how even the largest arc in HxH can still be narrated simply and coherently. -
Btw remember "Brion", that sphere-headed great calamity? Just found this:
Coincidence? -
I wonder if Togashi is in a pissing contest with Oda to see who can put more characters in their own respective manga??
so far I think Togashi is edging out a W

At least I can actually remember the majority of the characters in the WCI arc, their names and zany designs certainly help.

Really? Do you have the source?
In any case, I think that if it happens, it will be in the Dark Continent, not now.
-
Nothing specific about Marineford but more about OP having many characters
