while i'm on #TeamHisoka, a quick reminder of chrollo's previous battles will tell you that he is on a much higher level than kastro. the fact that he is the leader to a group of very powerful assassins should be proof enough.
but we witnessed him when he fought silva zoldyck (possibly twice) and survived to tell the tale, he fought him the second time with his father zeno one of the most powerful nen users in HXH, he was able to hold his own against both of them when he didn't even want to kill them, he wanted to trap them in the magic clothe at first. we saw him acting very calm in a situation where he could've been easily killed by kurapika, he is very level headed.
we can say that he is the most powerful opponent hisoka has ever fought, and im not really sure if hisoka will get out of this fight unscathed. i think hisoka will have a permanent reminder of chrollo stuck on him.
I never liked fake dead match. If you announce one of them have to die, you better make sure it happens.

Let's be clear here, I think Chrollo is realistically stronger than Hisoka, but the fact he wants to defeat him "stylishly" might lead to his demise. Then there's a possibility that he also planned for his defeat to get Hisoka off his back. Maybe it will suit his plans to make everyone think he's dead. Who knows how many different abilities he has taken up so far. Ability that would convince anyone he has died, ability that would allow him to assume someone else's identity, etc.

I think the whole thing with GI is that it falls in the very powerfull nen type abilities that only work because of the huge drawbacks/rules they are made with, like Kurapika's chains and Chrollo's book. The fact that the cards and abilities only worked in GI, and that to be able to use any of the cards outside of it you needed to complete the whole book with all the 100 different cards works like a huge delimitation and that's the only reason they were able to make GI. What I mean is that they can't just make all of these cards to use outside GI like that.

So you suppose:
1/ Only in the GI area
2/ If you want to use it out of the area. You must finish the game ( wich means, gather 100cards and defeat Razor )
But is this even enough ? Ok for the area ( first rule ) but the clause which stipulates how to use it out of the island… I mean, it's total nonsense. Can't you trick the second rule ? Just take all the cards and Razor loses on purpose, then you repeat it and can use all the cards you want out of the island. ( ya, all games have glitches... )
The rules from Kurapika and Chrollo can't be tricked or whatever.
I feel like Togashi created all this nen cards at the time and the whole "GI is a videogame thing" just because he was a DragonQuest fan and didn't think about the consistency.

A long time ago, I was thinking an advanced application of deceitful texture would allow Hisoka to create illusions/mirages.
I have an idea about Tserriednich and the eyes. Well, he seems to be the scholar kind as he showed us when speaking at the telephone with Marc.
So here's my suggestion. He's gonna read something ( or just learn something ) about the Kurata clan, their red eyes and nen. In short, he will get eye surgery to have these eyes. Then he'll have a big asset on his side ( for the battle royal ).
Also, Tserriednich is the type to dissect ( we saw all those body part in his room ).
Till then i don't think any of the owners of the eyes knew what they really were. Even Kurapika learned it while he was trained by Izunabi.

I don't think Togashi's gonna postpone the climax of this any further; Hisoka's arc in the story has been fairly simple. He's a perverse Netero; Chrollo is his Meruem. Hisoka's fights have always been macabre and we're only seeing the beginning of the bloodbath–the ref blew open minutes into the match. It's gonna be insane.
The story is also taking a turn towards the archaeological side/hidden history of the world. Hisoka has no interest in things like that, just as he had no interest in the ants. Chrollo however, with his insatiable curiosity, can still play a very large role in the story and must confront Kurapika again.
I'm assuming Hisoka is going to use his texture change thing on the book and that's how he'll win

Yes, and that was a condition in and of itself. Without it though cartridges were still registered and wouldn't allow a new player until the old player was gone and a lot of people ended up just settling and living on the island. Or dying.
Ok, I know the new hotness of the Manga starting up again is on everyone's mind, but real quick I have an Anime related question iff'n you fine folks would be so kind as to answer.
I have a friend who I got interested in HxH and she decided to start watching the Anime. After talking to her a bit, I found out she's watching the 1999 Anime. She's about 6 episodes in and is liking it. I told her to switch to the 2011 one, but she wants to watch it dubbed, and the 2011 show's dub JUST started.
She's not really a dub only kinda anime fan, we watched all of One Piece together subbed for example when FUNi was still back in East Blue. Her issue is that right now is a super hectic time in her life, she has 2 jobs and a ton of responsibility at home, so she can rarely just sit down and watch anime as a singular focus, if she wants to watch something it's usually something she puts on while doing something else, IE having to focus on reading subtitles hinders this.
That brings me to my real question.
Is the 1999 series good? I know the 2011 one is more accurate to the manga and likely superior, and I do know that it obviously adapted more material. The 1999 series stopped at YorkNew and had a Sequel OVA that covered Greed Island right?
Should I tell her to stop and wait until she can devote time to the 2011 series or should I let her keep watching the 1999 one? If so, should she continue onto the Greed Island OVAs, or stop at Yorknew? Lastly, if she can watch the 1999 series (OVA or no) CAN she just jump from that to the 2011 series starting with Greed Island/Chimera Ants? Or are the two disconnected to some degree and she'd have to start the 2011 series over?

While I agree with everything you said. I don't see why Hisoka would have to be done from fighting. Wouldn't a loss just make him want to be stronger, or maybe this will cause him to go to the DC to become stronger.

1999 is not bad but it has it's fair dose of censorship (one infamous example is the hisoka vs kastro fight which was censored almost completely) and it's animation quality is mediocre at best when compared to 2011. it's soundtrack was better imo, but that could be the nostalgia talking because i grew up watching it.
2011 is infinitely better, covers more story, better animation and no severe censorship.

The 1999 TV series is one of the finest long-running shonen adaptation ever made. OVA1 was pretty great too. GI OVAs weren't any good however.
So I suggest she continues, then switch to 2011 for Greed Island onwards.
i don't recommend doing that, i grew up with 1999 and in my opinion if you want to exprince HXH to it's fullest go directly to 2011. if you watch the earlier arcs in 1999 you'll be missing out on some of the best moments the 2011 animated and the 1999 half assed. besides the sudden transition in the voice acting will be very jarring.
Plus Mad House animated the 2011 version~~
The soundtracks are epic, the voice actors are really good, the overall animation is nearly perfect… This is the version you should watch.

I've seen the 2011 series and I love it. I'm not asking about the quality of the 2011 series at all. I'm aware it's better overall.
I've just never seen the 1999 series, and my friend is in a position where her options are A: Watch it dubbed, which means she has to watch 1999 for now or B: Don't watch it at all right now and wait for her life to die down.
My question isn't which one is better, it's "Is the 1999 version bad to the point that I should stop her from watching it, or would it be acceptable for her to watch as an introduction to the series, and if so, should I have her rewatch the 2011 version fro episode 1 when she finishes the 1999 one, or could I just let her pick it up at Greed Island/ Chimera Ants at that point"

I say let your friend continue watching the '99 adaptation if she's already started it. I actually prefer the '99 version of the Hunter exam and York shin arc because I like the slightly darker tone it has that makes the world of Hunters actually seem pretty dangerous. I also feel like the visual directing is stronger. It might be a bit jarring to jump from the '99 version to the 2011 version but I'm sure she'll get over it. Basically both adaptations are great and everyone should watch them all the time forever because it's the best.

One thing's for sure, he didn't lose the abilities he'd stolen before changing the rules of his book because in this chapter he says he acquired the abilty "moon and sun" in Meteor City. Or maybe Neon Nostrade is dead, but why would she be dead ?

It's been a while, but if I remember correctly, isn't that exactly what he did? Writing out the fortunes for the other spiders.
A few of their poems said they'd die if they stayed with the spiders or something.

Quick update on the situation with my friend and the 1999 series…. when I posted it, she was early in the pre-Hunter exam, like the quiz scene, so there was still time to stop her if there was an issue with the 1999 series. She told me she was gonna lay down to go to bed and was just gonna watch an episode or two. This was at about 11pm-midnight.
I just spoke to her and found out... the show apparently really gripped her more than expected... she watched until 4:30am. She's now in the 20s episode wise, which according to her in the 1999 series means the last thing she saw was Gon's Candle fight in the Hunter Exam lol.
She's really hooked now and has decided she's gonna finish 1999 as this is where she's started up to the end of YorkNew, and when the main 1999 series ends she will immediately jump to 2011, so she won't be watching any of the 1999 OVAs. Apparently they did not dub any of the OVAs... or at the very least, nobody's uploaded the dubbed version to any of the anime streaming sites, so her only motivation for wanting to continue the 1999 series (Being able to watch it dubbed) stops there.
So, thanks for your input guys. At the very least, you guys convinced me letting her watch the 1999 series wasn't a huge mistake and she should be able to seamlessly jump into 2011 afterwards. This isn't like a Fullmetal Alchemist 2003, or Hellsing 2001 issue where the stories are ridiculously different.
Also, fun thing... talking to her about what she's seen so far... apparently Killua's gruesome fight in the Hunter Exam? The, shall we say, heartbreaking one? Totally uncensored in the 1999 version... Interesting....

He's actually in the first couple of episodes unlike the 2011 Anime that changed it so that Gon meets him for the first time right before Chimera Ants..... How... should I explain this discrepency to her when we get there in the most succinct way? Again, I haven't seen the 1999 series. I know there's a difference in the two, but I'm fuzzy on exactly what it is.

The story isn't changed, but the telling of the events is only slightly rearranged; the 2011 anime didn't change it to Gon meeting Kite for the first time before the Chimera Ant arc, they just held off on his debut in the show. Kite meeting a younger Gon during the foxbear incident always happened, but it's shortened to a small flashback when Gon and Killua ran into him after Greed Island. I guess they didn't bother doing Kite's debut in episode 1 because they assumed viewers would forget who he was after 70 episodes? Not sure why they did that, honestly.
I still don't get why they changed The Testing Gate part where they had to push it all together and they were only able to open one of the doors. The coolest part about it wasn't even they all being able to do it alone, but Leorio managing to open 2 of the doors.

They would have to go the "Shanks in every opening" route to keep Kaito relevant.
I preferred the 99 adaptation of the Yorkshin arc over the 2011 version.
Also 11 version also omitted some Leorio scenes…. The ost was also quite forgettable..
