I mean regardless Zach Callison himself has said it changed because his voice changed, so he couldve just been a late bloomer. But yeah again I really dont dislike him at any point, back to your regularly scheduled one piece programming lol.

The actors do an okay job and we can’t expect funimation to find good child actors; that’s tough. Sometimes they do, though; I think of FMA’s Alphonse (might be wrong, but wasn’t he a teenager when he voiced that role?) and Stephen Universe (not funimation) as great examples of young, really good actors voicing kids.
@Blake:
While I generally enjoy Steven Universe, it goes through another problem with casting children, they grow up. He sounded rather authentic throughout the first season, but near the end and for the rest of the show his voice changes and it goes from child doing deep dumb voice to teen/adult doing high pitched kid voice.
Indeed, this is what happened to Alphonse's original VA Aaron Dismuke. When Funi licensed the OVA Collection his voice had broken, so Mike McFarland used a combination or re-casting, archive recordings from video games and lampshade hanging. He was recast with a female VA for FMA Brotherhood.
And while we're here, here's Steven Universe cosplaying as Luffy, as drawn by SU's creator Rebecca Sugar:
!
Aaaaaand I'll be nice and back on topic now.
-
Both are technically "put-on" since the actor was never near the age of the character.
He was at the beginning. Steven was 13 in the beginning of the series and Zach was likely 14, or 15 at the most when he did that part of the show. It was relieving to hear Zach do a voice closer to his natural one for Steven Universe Future though, but that's just me.
-
Steven is supposed to be thirteen at the beginning? If that's true, consider me surprised.
-
He is younger than he looks. Half Gem remember?
-
I hate to mini mod, but I think this is delving a bit too much into Steven Universe talk now lol
-
I am so glad the actors are growing into their roles instead of the opposite. That's always nice.

It seems like funi is outputing 3-4 new dub eps a week, so I really can't see them going faster than 1 a week with one piece if that. Granted they're so ahead they wouldn't have to slow down releases for awhile, and even when we caught up they could *theoretically still have releases every 3 months. Really I'm just still suprised they are dubbing it from home at all though.

Since they're recording OP in six episode batches, they aren't really finishing one at a time. More like six. Unless you mean you think they're each finishing their six episode batch every six weeks? That would mean they're knocking out 18 every month and a half, assuming all the directors are still working on it.
Ah, who knows. No use speculating when we don't even have a basis. Them recording four episodes a week of four different shows isn't the same, since they have to schedule all of the actors for each episode, rather than schedule all of the actors for six episode batches. In short: recording one episode at a time takes way longer since you have to call in the same actors six separate times for six episodes.
-
Also I want to touch upon something someone said about "Kids in Anime". I think there is one scene that is among the TOP SCENES in One Piece and its centered on 2 kids… I want this scene to be done by adults... because its the utmost cruelty to have children do it.
!

I didn't mean it THAT literally, just that the pace would probably more or less equate to having a batch ready every 3 months or so. Could be faster, could be slower, but I mostly made the remark because that rough estimate surprised me, cuz I had a hard time imagining them even going that fast. It seems they've been working out how to dub from home proficiently rather quickly so releases probably wont slow that much, which is nice.
-
They’re showing movie nine at Crunchyroll Con; that’s the only feature length OP movie I’ve never seen. Thought it was A weird premise so just kept putting it on the back burner with a few of the unseen specials.
Man, I’m still dreaming of them dubbing all the films. That’d be nice. I’m kind of surprised they haven’t dubbed the sixth one yet. They know the fan base wants it. Anyone think the films will finally get dubbed now that Toei has taken over?
-

Yes, but probably wouldn't happen until this whole pandemic thing winds down, and they'd probably want to dub a good chunk of the anime before devoting resources to side projects again, or at least thats what I'd want lol. Ideally I'd like them to release the mangauk releases state side just with added dub tracks. One film at a time would be really slow.

What do you mean by Toei has taken over?

Know it came out almost a year ago but I just now realized that Yasopp and young Sanji were recast in episode of east blue. Yasopp, in his few lines, seems just about perfect. Really similar to both his old VA and Sonny, so really good pick. As for young sanji, I actually prefer Megan shipman in the role I think so no problems there. Another voice acting note; hearing Genzo here makes me really sad. Its very clear his VA is trying his best but has gotten really old and has a hard time yelling.
Also, I have no idea how nobody noticed this, but when vics we are is used, it slowly turns into the japanese version at the final "We are!". I think this is because its from the full version and funi only ever dubbed the tv cut.

What do you mean by Toei has taken over?
Toei are directly funding the dub now, so that may lead to funi getting more rights more easily.

The episodes will never catch up, so I’m totally okay with them dubbing the movies at this point—40 or so episodes deep into DR. But I think you’re right it won’t happen until Covid’s over, at the earliest. Feels like covid will never end.
Forgot about the Manga UK releases. Too bad PS4 is region locked. Maybe I’ll import those if PS5 isn’t region locked.
-
I know they'll never catch up, but still I'd usually prefer more episodes quicker than movies, because while I want them just for the sake of having them eventually, frankly most of them aren't great. The only real good one they don't already have the rights to is movie 6.

Rewatching the documentary as well and like, Eric Vales comments about Sanjis siblings still confuses me. We know for a fact they didnt record nearly that far, and he has directly said he doesnt watch or read it outside of his work before.
-
Maybe some fans tweeted some stuff at him about it enough for him to know Sanji's family will come into play?

I suppose the only real possibility but its still odd he would remember and mention it
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Oh another note about the documentary, in the ending they use the dub narration, but the japanese we are? Thats really weird. They used it in the special but not the special feature.
-
Hero academia is getting it's ovas dubbed…. Hopefully one piece will get it's ivas and movies dubbed too...
-
Someone posted this clip and it caught me off guard, Doffy sounds eerily like McCollum at the end, but that can't be since its his post timeskip design
. Just makes me wish all the more he would try to replicate it, I guess its technically possible he will next set, but since he still didn't in episode of sabo which was only recorded 1-4 years earlier I'm not counting on it
-
Why cant it be McCollum? Did he die? Get fired? What?
-

Uh no. I said it because its his post timeskip design, and Ive watched the show so much I would remember it. Hideyuki tanaka just so happened to sound a lot like him for a moment.

Ah I almost forgot how much I love Dadan. Her VA really knocked it out of the park this scene
-
HOLY FUCKING SHIT!! THAT WAS AMAZING. This is One Piece at its peak of acting. I didnt even like this scene in the Japanese version.
-
Part of whats gonna make dressrosa painful is just waiting to see content we didn't already see in episode of Sabo. That special covered to like the late 670's, so we wont see entirely new material until voyage 4 or 5
-
That special cut out so much and only focused on the tournament part, which for me was the weakest part of the arc. So I’ll be happy to see all the content outside of that.

Of course but waiting for the same story beats to pan out wont be all that fun imo.

The second set never made it to Amazon.

The second set never made it to Amazon.
Yup, that so weird. Are they just giving up on amazon now or what?
-
Wonder when collection 24 will come out. Will it be around a year after voyage 1s release or sooner like they did later on? Also kinda wonder who they'll put on the cover. Theyve already used all the important fishman island characters, and the punk hazard ones barely appear.
-
Can someone please post in the Streaming thread? I think One Piece outdid Greys Anatomy and I want people to know!
-
I wonder whether the UK or US will get C24 first, given that next week we'll be caught up on Collections but not actual episodes/discs? All they need is to choose some character art for the cover. They've also advertised C23 as coming to VoD, which would be a first for the series here, though this might just be an error when they edited the trailer.

Really? One piece is 6th just under friends and the office, and just over greys anatomy, the most basic white people shows ever??? That great to hear.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Okay so I've always really loved this cover of hope
and apparently she voices Otohime??? Thats really cool/ -
I REALLY hate to defend Grey's Anatomy, but the creator is black, Shonda Rhimes and is a pioneer of representation on TV. It was thanks to her that Viola Davis got her Emmy!

Thats cool, but I was just generally referring as to the shows I never hear people shut up about lol.

Why wouldn't it? We got 8 of the Movies 6+ years early, and that was before Funi bought Manga. Madman's released their "Voyage Collection" and "Treasure Chest Collection" bundles that the US never got. All Manga would have to do is change the logos/region code and make new artwork (which they've done anyway for previous sets). There's no good reason for them to wait for the American Collections when there's no UK equivalent to the Voyage DVDs.
-
Collection 24 won't come out until all of Season 10 is released, otherwise it would cannibalize sales of the voyage sets.

Everything the UK got first funi either didn't license,or are just special releases. They would never release the main show dvd first.

Toei tweeted out about 3D2Y on digital, still no word on Amazon
-
They just tweeted about Episode of Sabo, too.
-
Anyone know why the Voyage 2 is still not on Amazon, I been checking to download this batch and its still not on there,
-

You realise I'm talking about them using existing Voyage discs after their US release?
-

I suppose the collections are technically a rerelease, but they're still more unique than say a steelbook or something funimation doesn't own that they release independently.

No. Toei said something about looking into it but now its almost been 3 weeks and nothing. Just looks like its not happening now. Streams tomorrow if you have a funi subscription.
-
Here’s hoping they mention voyage three during their press release for the streaming episodes tomorrow.
-
Doubt it, regardless really I'm not too worried. At this point they are well equipped to the pandemic and future delayed dates are unlikely. Confirmation would be nice however.
-
Yeah, I don't really trust early listings outside of their site. They're good signs, but in my experience they only tend to be right half, maybe a little more than half, of the time. So I'm eagerly waiting confirmation and a digital purchase date.
-
The thing is this EXACT thing already happened, and most likely only didnt the 2nd time due to the pandemic.
-
It happens all the time outside of the pandemic, though. Sometimes funimation changes release dates internally and the initial notice doesn’t get the memo.
-
It was very obviously due to the pandemic this time though. Theres a very clear pattern here, I'd say there is a 99.99% chance the release date won't change
