I now what you meant! Each and ever time!

I'm still waiting for the fourth boxset so I can get an English Sniper King bounty poster.

Shit. One Piece got cancelled on Toonami. Guess it wasn't doing well. How will this impact the dub?

Simple, it won't

Not at all? If anything the original cancellation of One Piece on the previous incarnation of Toonami was a bigger blow to this franchise, and yet it still managed to release several seasons worth of episodes and gained a following being exclusively on DVD (and streaming) before it was picked up again. At its current timeslot it was rather unlikely it was bringing in that many new viewers, yet Funimation has still been releasing episodes, movies and TV specials; clearly it has a strong enough audience that the Toonami airings probably barely contributed to.
-
Why do people think this would affect (ef?) the dub? I thought we were past this!?
Also I don't think zephray was being serious.
-
Not too serious. I mean, I'm sure everything will go on as usual, but it isn't exactly a good thing for the dub. Did they give any reason? Just ratings and price, I assume?
Still waiting on the new season; I wonder if haggling with Toonami slowed them down at all.
-
If anything it was stuff like “Film Gold” (and all the promotion that went along with it) and “Heart of Gold” that slowed them down. Considering Toonami was airing episodes that had been finished and released quite a while before airing they really shouldn’t have affected the dub process or release schedule at all.
-

awww what? It was right in the middle of Thriller Bark iirc.
Was DB Kai and Super taking its steam?
-

Actually they just finished Thriller Bark. The last episode they're going to air is that Brook filler episode at the end of season 6
-
I think they moved it to a really late time slot where it failed. 2:30 AM.

It was already not doing well in the ratings before that in the 4 years it's been on, the only reason why it got moved to that slot was because it stunk earlier. They even had it on at 8:30 after DBZ Kai for a stint but the ratings were so bad it quickly got pulled from that slot. I think it was OK during the Water 7/Enies Lobby arcs but the trends in the TB arc have just been laughable to the point where it had 200-250k viewer dropoffs from Naruto Shippuden and One Punch Man reruns beat it. I know this may seem like nothing to you guys but this isn't a good look at all for the series popularity in the U.S, just goes to show it'll never kick off here like many other mainstream animes have.
-
I wish OP could catch on here.
IT IS ALL 4KIDS FAULT.
-
Maybe it's just on break too, I looked up this tokyo ghoul thing, and it's not very long. Doesn't seem like the kind of thing they'd have to keep going.
Also I'm not sure how well we can actually judge the show based on an airtime of 2 am or whatever. Also the fact that they've "Cancelled" it in perfect timing for the arc to end suggests that it might come back. Hell this might actually be a ploy to gauge interest in it anyway. Then they can be all "ONE PIECE IS COMING BACK CAUSE YOU WANTED IT! WITH NEW EPISODES!"
-
That doesn't sound right. If the ratings were trashy, there's no reason to bring it back. Not for a while, at least. Maybe they can hype it up again with timeskip episodes at some point, but I'm not counting on it. I heard the boss man over at Toonami says he's not crossing out the possibility of it returning, but there aren't any plans for it to. Bad ratings are bad ratings. Nothing to do about it. It's a f***ing shame, but American tastes have never been quite so great. Action, action, and more bloody action. Look at our blockbusters: all superheros. The days of thoughtful storytelling in mainstream entertainment are long gone (think the auteur wave of the 90s– Spielberg, Lucas, Coppola, etc).
-
Let's not be naive here. Despite Jason DeMarco giving fans a little bit of hope, One Piece won't be back.
This is the second time One Piece got taken off of Toonami. It won't get a third chance.

Isn't this technically it's 3rd chance? First the 4kids dub, than Funimation, and then the late night slot.
Anyways, imo giving it a shitty timeslot isn't what I'd call giving it a fair shot at all. And giving only a single week or 2 to see change isn't exactly scientifically sounds either.
Honestly the widest part of this is just it's paving if the show, so I guess if anything this all Toei's fault.
-
it was moved late b/c of ratings.

I'm talking about One Piece's history on Toonami. The first time it was removed was in early 2008 and this is the second time.
There was no break between the time the 2007 One Piece run went from 4Kids to Funimation.

Fair enough, I guess that does seem about right. Although I could've sworn their was a break in between both.
-
If there was, then it wasn't a long one.
And it wouldn't count as a cancellation anyway.
-
Nope no break. 4kods aored their final episode then funimation started the following week.
-
Solicitations are nearly here. Cross your fingers!
-
Their had better be a damn release date for FI in there. [emoji82]
-
That's what I'm freakin' saying. This wait is too long. Any wait is too long, but this one is reasonably too long.
-
It's been awhile but how long was the wait for season 4 , how does this stack up?

The wait between Season 3 to Season 4 was a year and 4 months. Since the last volume of Season 3 came out in April 2011, and the first volume of Season 4 came out in August 2012. For the wait for between Season 8 to Season 9, its only been 4 months so far.

Wow. For some reason it definitely feels longer. Guess we've been spoiled.
-
That's why I'm not really annoyed about the wait for Season 9 as long it's not like the wait for Season 4, it should be fine.
-
Yeah. I know[emoji20]. Been looking forward to hearing "new world" the most. Among other things
-
Could the fact that they would need to dub two songs for the first voyage effect what is taking so long (New World and Bone to be Wild)? in addition to the two movies dubbed
-
The movies most definitely slowed things down. But it seems to have slowed them down a lot.
Last set came out in mid-December. So it's been three months since then. But we have solicitations for April and May. That makes it a five month hiatus if it comes out in June. So, yeah, still pretty long– nearly half a year of no new episodes.
-
So the solicits on Funimations page had updated and so far there is no One Piece for June, wow this is getting bad
-
I'm a little worried right now, I get that the Season 3 to Season 4 wait was longer but with the recent Toonami cancellation, this doesn't bode well. It's still updating though so I'll give it some more time

It'd certainly be nice if they could get a move on with the New World releases, but don't forget it's a pretty big transition. It might even be considered a new series as far as Toei is concerned, so there might be some contractual stuff to sort out before Funi gets to go full steam with it. There has been rumors of recording going on even now, but that was also the case between Seasons 3 and 4. Anyway, I don't doubt that it is coming and most likely by the end of the year if not sooner.
EDIT: Oh. Well, OK then. But sheesh, Hordy Jones? I'd hoped that would have been fixed. And is that description for Voyage 1 or Voyage 4?
-
And is that description for Voyage 1 or Voyage 4?
I noticed that too. This doesn't seem like a description of anything that actually occurs in this boxset (well, except maybe the "new moves" part)

1. I am loving that box art.
2. There is 22 minutes of special feature footage. That has me really excited
-
was hoping for more episodes lol but hey at least we finally getting it, even if its going to be in June
-
RightStuf has the correct summary

AWSOME. timeskip is almost here and funimation never let u down.
-
Darn. After seeing the Heart of Gold cover, was hoping they'd be using the blue logo from now on.
-
That's a really cool cover!
-
At long last, a date for Season 9 Voyage 1! The Funimation dub has finally reached the Fishman Island arc. It's insane how far we've come.
I assume we can guesstimate that dubbing two movies/specials will create a ~5-month gap between the voyage sets.
-
It seems so surreal, man it's hard to imagine that we made it here. It doesn't seem that long ago where people were shouting doom and gloom about the dub being on the way out.

You know, I'm not entirely convinced that it slowed them down. Maybe it did, but also, funimation is a big company dubbing dozens of shows. If they don't want special episodes to slow them down, they won't.

We also have to remember the voice actress for Robin is currently pregnant as well
-
See, that's the sort of thing that slows down production. Wasn't there a big break when Colleen was pregnant?
-

aw your stephanie i am SO HAPPY FOR HER.

Yep before Thriller bark we also got Film Z that year
