Muzan fight is reaaaally disappointing.

Kimetsu no Yaiba
-
-
It's mostly just really gruesome. I don't really get why I don't feel excited by this fight.
-
It's extremely boring, way too many flashbacks as well. The only thing it really has going for it is that you can legitimately seeing like half of these guys dying, so at least you can't say it doesn't have real stakes.
Going from those cool blood arts we saw to Muzan whipping his arms over and over is just a damn shame.
-
Oh, so it's not just me who's feeling down on the Muzan fight. I was wondering whether or not it was just "weekly fatigue" finally setting in but I guess it really is pretty flawed.
I think the main issue is we "know" that the fight can't make any meaningful progress until Nezuko finally shows up, so everything else just feels like stalling for time.
-
isn't that an issue for a lot of final fight series ? I'm not to mad at the author, it's one her first serie and everything was great so far.
-
It's fatigue like all big battle arcs. Where the pattern has been battles after battles, flashbacks after flashbacks.
Basically a scaled down Naruto final war arc. So like no comedy or slice of life fluff makes it even more of the same.
But you know if you're reading it at one go it's probably much better. -
I have the opposite opinion regarding the final fight against Muzan so far. But maybe it's because I've been reading this manga weekly since day 1 and got used to those long fights with plenty of small flashbacks interruptions.
If the length of the UM6 fight (red light district arc) didn't bother me when I read it weekly, this one with a higher pace certainly won't.
I just love how basic Muzan's skills are so far (though I doubt it will be his final form).
Just overpowering multiple opponents with his OP stats, if I were to use RPG terms.Kanao being the last demon slayer standing the last chapter doesn't surprise me now that we know about the extra tubes. If one of them were to notice them it makes sense to me that it would be the one with the OP eyesight (even if it's diminished by her fight against UM2). Add to the fact that just before losing, the pillars were focusing on the transparent world on Muzan's body and the latter heard them (the earth pillar saying that out loud surely backfired). It gave Muzan the perfect opportunity to counter them.
Sure it's not the most original way for the MC to rejoin the fight (saving someone at the last second) but the situation makes sense to me.
Anyway, I checked and there are now 23 uncollected chapters. Each KnY volume usually has 9 chapters.
I'm now expecting the manga to end in volume 23 wich would mean a minimum of 13 chapters left (add a few if the last volumes are bigger). That would make the manga end in May. What a ride.
-
Yeah I don't really get the complaints about drawn-out fights filled with flashbacks now when that's 75% of this series. I caught up only recently but I'm already kinda used to it.
-
The Spread says FINAL BATTLE. The end is nigh.

Good…I'm becoming underwhelmed with this.
-
So now Tanjiro is able to 1v1 the uber final boss who just massacred his peers and superiors?
-
- Muzan demon blood and unlocking passed down memories of a very powerful dance.
Don't think it is going to be for long, Muzan is just taken by surprise. Tide will change quickly next chapter and an everyone Vs Muzan will commence.
Anyway anyone reading this should have saw this scene coming a long time ago so yeah.
Course he's not going fall to plot power up but he will fall by Tanjirou hands.

This one is just particularly more offensive to me because Muzan's fighting style is super boring to look at. Like I can see the anime making it hype I guess, but in the manga, I'm pretty checked out at this point.

@TLC:

That boss just aged 9000 years. I wish they'd come up with something like that along time ago. Instead the elites scolded Tanjiro that he dares to want to join them.
-
Wow, an actual explanation for why his hair changed color.
But fuck, now he can read memories as well? Too powerful.

That's Shounen manga for you.

Please nerf Yoriichi

Snakes are awesome.
-
! Hell yeah. Nezuko is turning human.
-
blood demon art: running
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1006265 -
It's always fun to watch super-evil villains slowly go nuts as they start losing.
-
Oh no. I have a bad feeling about the next chapter.
-
Haha I called it
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1006392 -
Got heavy goosebumps during Nezuko's flashback. Can't wait to see it animated.
-
Really, two more convenient effects from the poison…
-
who cares when there is such a beautiful chapter starts.
-
Exactly, Muzan was conveniently overpowered anyway.
-
Muzan fight is a silly fight, extremely boring to boost so I doesn't bother that the poison Tamayo and Shinobu cooked up is doing all the legs work in killing him while he aimlessly flaps his tentacles around like an idiot.
-
At least it makes more sense than Tanjiro getting some kind of sudden power boost that helps him save the day like so many other Shonen's rely on.
-
If this would be the Dressrosa of Kimetsu, this fight would be a slog. But this is the main villain, and for me that makes it more epic. Would be dumb when he dies as as quick as his goons we saw within this whole series.
-

Exactly. When the villain is completely deus ex then the hero and/or the tool of defeat has to be deus ex too.
But Tamayo is so freaking cool.

Except he's in fact dying as quick as his goons? At least for now this fight is far from being the longest or hardest in the series.
But I doubt it's gonna end so easily, so…
-
So episode 19 just aired on Toonami. The one that apparently everyone went nuts over. And yeah, I won't deny those last few minutes have some top notch animation and it is an emotional moment, but…I dunno. I guess I'm still not really seeing why people say this is the best anime of 2019.
In terms of animation, sure, but still don't think the story and characters are exceptionally strong.

Lack of decent competition

Kimetsu no Yaiba is a competently done generic shonen with a fantastic anime that gave it a serious boost. Meanwhile Dr Stone is an original, extremely well done shonen with a substandard anime and nobody really talks about it.

Reinforcements arrive

Oh snap he actually did something new

I just love Inosuke. And damn, we're down to 25 minutes!

I couldn't agree more, makes me upset when mediocre series become big hits cause of an amazing anime where some series that are truly great get shit anime and sometimes even get canceled
I would have loved it if both Toriko and Beelzebub had gotten an anime of this quality, both ended up getting super rushed and there last few arcs sucked
-
Well it's your opinion the serie is mediocre
Personally Dr Stone didn't manage to make me interested.
-
It's all a matter of what floats your boat. For example, Death Note was popular, but it wasn't my cup of tea.
Kimetsu no Yaiba follows all the classic Shonen tropes, so you couldn't call it very "original", but even something generic can be truly entertaining if it's executed well. And even with its ups and downs, I consider this series to be very well executed.
-
I would also say that the issue in Beelzebub and Toriko is not the quality of their anime but the lack of direction in their plot.
This is especially true for Beelzebub. The author alternated between gag and action arcs but without real plot to unify them. After a while, readers were tired of it and the title was forced to have a rush ending -

After a while, readers were tired of it and the title was forced to have a rush endingBeelzebub's author is just very limited and that was confirmed when his next work Hungry Marie was just recycled character designs and ideas from his previous work. Toriko was a wacky series that just pushed it too far no longer making sense at the end with the powers just being completely insane.
Kimetsu no Yaiba's author on the other hand seems to have understood that there is no point stretching it forever and destroying the serie's credibility. Better to be remembered fondly than as something that was once good and became a joke in the end.

I didn't say the series is mediocre. I said it's generic and competently done. These aren't knocks against it, there is nothing wrong with being standard shonen if you're executed well. But there is nothing really special about Yaiba that sets it apart from the rest of the pack. I guess it's super Japanese in aesthetic? Dr. Stone, love it or hate it, there is absolutely nothing like it, I personally think it's executed fantastically but whatever floats your boat. The fact that Yaiba has a fantastic anime and Dr. Stone has a substandard one aren't really in dispute though are they? And I feel that if the quality of their anime were reversed, so would have been their popularity numbers. As is, Yaiba shot to number one in sales last year because of the anime boost while Dr. Stone, managed to get to number 6 with no real help from its anime.

A series with nothing special about it simply wouldn't be as popular as Yaiba is. It's on track to sell more in just half a year than One Piece's best ever record of 38 mil yearly sales. Smashing the record and entering into a league of its own in terms of total yearly sales. That doesn't just happen with any run of the mill series, that much should be obvious.
There are many things that make Yaiba stand out, and I'm talking about the manga too, not just the anime. The newest manga volumes are outselling the newest OP volumes so there is clearly something there other than simply the stellar anime.
A lot of people only consider the narrative when judging a series as a whole. Hence why many frown upon Yaiba since the narrative is (intentionally) simple. But the real pull of the series lies in its cast and the meaning, emotion and symbolism. The series is soaked in all 3 and can be understood once you try to look below the surface level. There are countless powerful moments that it's no surprise people develop a real personal connection with the series considering its themes, rather than having mere casual enjoyment with it like many do regarding Dr. Stone for example.
Dr Stone is the sort of the series you can appreciate, think was cool and then forget about once you close the book. Yaiba is something that stays with people far more and can be seen as so much more relatable and meaningful. When it's a Yaiba character like Giyuu or Shinobu's birthday, that becomes the no.1 trend on twitter Japan. That's how much people love characters in Yaiba.
-
I really don't feel like it should be controversial to feel that Yaiba doesn't stand out much or something along those lines. It's a pretty tame opinion all things considered.
-
it's funny because when it is One Piece you are much less tolerant to criticism :-)
-
Even One Piece only got as big as it did because of an anime movie boost. Downplaying Yaiba for doing the same thing is just double-standards.
Anyway, the last couple of chapters were a big improvement IMO. So glad to see Zenitsu and Inosuke more involved in the fight. Zenitsu especially deserves a better wrap-up than the Kaigaku fight (which was my pick for the manga's low point).

Forget both of them, I wanted to see Nezuko involved…
Not sure what to expect now that she's nearly back to being a human.
-
Zenitsu and Inosuke's previous parts in the arc felt definitely forced.
Zenitsu's whole subplot came out of nowhere and also went nowhere.
Meanwhile, Inosuke got shoved in at the last minute in a fight that had gotten all the set-up for Shinobu and Kanao. And then it's jus like 'Oh, by the way, this guy also killed Inosuke's mom who he's never cared about before, he clearly should be here too', and it feels like such an afterthought.
I like them both, so I'm glad they get to do something better for the grand finale.
