I think Kaido turning into a giant snake with eight heads is too much for even Oda to put in. Kinda looks too hard to draw.

Oda's background assistants would have to deal with a lot of stress though lol. Especially if the snake heads have lots of scales.
The hard part is giving each head that moustache and horns. In my opinion, drawing human characteristics is the hardest type of drawing.
The mustache wouldn't look that different from the whiskers on eastern dragons like Shenron. The horns might be cumbersome, but only Kaido's main head needs them while the rest of the heads can look a lot more generic.

Would it be correct to assume that BM currently has the highest "street credit" out of all the living pirates?
She was owning giants at kindergarden age through sheer force. She is impervious to damage, dual-wields a grand Fireball and Thundercloud, with the option of mountain-scale obliteration sword slashes, and capable of sucking out the life-force of anyone just slightly scared of her.
If I recall correctly, there was no mention of her ever losing a fight. The Pirate King, who was supposedly a bit more powerful than Whitebeard, the most powerful person until a few years ago, avoided a direct confrontation after stealing her poneglyph. Despite this, her kingdom/crew hasn´t reached the top yet, which she attempts through marriage-alliances and project human-enlargement.
Kaido was introduced as having lost 7 times on one hand, but on the other he is supposedly an unkillable monster who you should bet on in a 1on1. We don´t know who exactly he lost to, although a good guess would be Roger, Whitebeard, Shanks, Garp and/or Sengoku, maybe BM.
BM herself told Luffy they wouldn´t be able to defeat Kaidou. Is it safe to assume that they faced off at least once over the years they have been ruling in the New World?
He attempts to reach the top by artificial (Zoan) devil fruits and hunting Oden´s people for Raftel´s location.
Blackbeard seems to have an armor Haki weakness, which he covers through his darkness fruit and the ability to take an unbelievable amount of damage. He also "inherited" one of the strongest offensive paramecias from Whitebeard.
He attempts to reach the top by amassing power through stealing strong devil fruits and giving them to strong individuals.
Shanks, a haki machine, might be the strongest, but he is quite laid-back and does not seem to have a desire to be the pirate king. It´s a bit funny considering we know him the longest, but do we actually know what his goals are?
I was just wondering. Oda has hyped up a physical defeat of Kaido, but here we have Big Mom, who is nowhere near beaten and might be unbeatable by normal means, hence the cake.
Greg, I mentioned this briefly during your stream so now I'll go into more detail about Dragon Dragon Fruit: Model- Yamata no Orochi theory. I think there's enough evidence to suggest that Kaido might have this variation of the Dragon Dragon fruit.
- The symbol behind the skull of the Animal Kingdom Pirates' jolly roger looks similar to the kanji "八" eight.
- We know Kaido has been captured eighteen times.
- We know that he's been defeated seven times (being defeated on Wano would be the eighth time).
- In the legend, Orochi became drunk after drinking eight cups of sake. We see Kaido in a drunken stupor from drinking sake. There's even a kind of liquor named Kaido.
You mentioned that "orochi" translates into "serpent", but serpents and dragons are arguably interchangeable and most dragon myths are based on the likeness of reptiles/serpents. All the artwork of Yamata no Orochi also looks a lot like the Shenlong wavy dragon a lot of people expect Kaido to look like.
But then I recalled your statements about the creatures that Oda considers the coolest, a dragon and a lion. The solution to this that came to my mind was that each of Kaido's heads would take the form of a really strong animal.
This would be a way for Oda to have his cake and eat it too.
Each head would take the form of the strongest creatures in history, even fitting the theme of the Color Walks. A lion, an eagle, a shark….okay maybe not a shark, but you get the idea.
On top of the Oni resemblance, it seems like Kaido could be an amalgamation of the coolest mythological icons from Japanese mythos.
Yeah, I liked the idea a lot which is why I didn't want to dismiss it. It's just, I feel that if Oda is going Dragon, he'll go full 'eastern' dragon and mixing snake with that might be tough.
Now, while I was talking I was even thinking about the Okami version which basically looks like a dragon but it's more grounded and we already know that Kaidou has to climb like Momo.

If Oda wants to make an INSANE opponent for Luffy, an eight-headed opponent is THE WAY TO DO IT.
The strongest piece of evidence you've provided is the kanji on his mark.
I suggested a while back in an article that it might refer to a Buddhist saying 'fall down seven times, stand up eight' but I'll be damned if what you've proposed isn't a seriously solid piece of evidence for your idea.
So yeah, I like the idea, we just need to see how far Oda is willing to stretch the Sara Sara fruit.

Didn't Sandersonia have a technique based on the Yamata no Orochi where she transforms her hair into seven extra snake heads? Not that this in any way decreases the chance that Kaido can have an Orochi Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit since Oda will often reuse the themes of his powers whenever he sees fit given how large the series is.

You're severely underestimating Oda's drawing ability, Kage. He's drawn complex animal designs before. There's also the fact that Kaido would be also be fighting in hybrid forms as well that would probably have a more streamlined appearance.

I think, from Oda's perspective, a full on eastern dragon alone might not be interesting enough for Kaido. If we look at the most iconic dragons in Japanese mythology, Yamata no Orochi is at the top.
As for being grounded, I wouldn't be surprised if Oda takes liberties on the original creature. Kaido could summon clouds to fly similar to Momo, but given that we have Big Mom doing something similar in WCI, I think Kaido will just be legit flight/levitation.
And yeah, you see what I'm getting at.

IDK if that is the right treatment for an antagonist.

He somehow produces very specific wispy clouds that look straight out of woodblock prints which he's able to grasp and climb.
That's is exactly what I was talking about. I was trying to expand on that saying that Momo's fruit is Vegapunk's successful attempt at reproducing Kaido's fruit.
While Caesar's are imperfections that allow you to transform part of your body only.
A nice alternative would be Kaido having many heads, or being a giant dragon as was mentioned before, and Momo helping Luffy fly to give him more mobility.

Just the idea of Kaido's clouds tolerating a 1 ton guy was kinda forced to me, much more involving clouds and insulting even further on Smokey's useless fruit… but if Vegapunk appears explaining it, i don't mind, want to see the guy more than anything.

I guess it is a failure in terms of what a SMILE is, but I wouldn't call it a failure in what a real devil fruit can achieve. The story has made great efforts to demonstrate how godly Vegapunk is, so I find fitting that Caesar just made an attempt at recreating what Vegapunk did, but failed, so he changed the composition of the artificial fruits so they would not have the drawback exhibited by Momo and the solution to that might have been having the power concentrated on a body part. Although, that would mean that Vegapunk managed to create other artificial fruits which he tested and saw how it was failing.
I could also attribute that to Momo's inexperience with the fruit.

Well, this is where we need to be careful in making assumptions. We've seen that body parts can change, but we haven't been explicitly told that full transformations aren't possible.
Those are the kinds of things Oda leaves open-ended so he can fully define them later.
Of course, just thinking about which path could be possible.
I just thought there had been a distinction between Vegapunk's product and Caesar's. That's why I am expecting to see what was Vegapunk's innovation after he discovered the lineage factor. We saw that Judge's was cloning, what did Vegapunk focus on. I thought that it could be the Pacifistas. Cyborg clones?
Another thing to note would be that if Kaido indeed has multiple heads, his minions doing something similar with their own extremities could be a nice coincidence. Just not necessarily transform fully. They are mediocre version of Kaido's abilities. Again if the creation of SMILE is linked somehow to Kaido.

I imagine someone like Vegapunk has a pretty high standards when it comes to his inventions. So the SMILE Dragon could be deemed a failure even if it worked but, say, lacked a certain ability that the original had. It didn't work out the way he planned so it's a fail for him.
And he might have different standards for different production lines. Besides, the current SMILE zoans aren't Vegapunk's making.

There's no confirmation of course, but the severity of the issue of changing seems to indicate the status of the fruit as 'less than perfection'.
