I was already iffy when Midora was made not a bad guy, but just a poor soul that wanted to eat. That was a backstory we were given but basically taking away all the bad things he did was pretty bad. At least there we had the idea that he wasn't all bad, as we saw light in his dark heart. In this case, we have a monster that has never been satisfied and killed countless planets with no remorse. Instead of being a beast to fear, everyone thinks it's fine it can just cook something for it. That's just terrible and takes away everything we've come to see of Neo so far. All we really needed to know is Neo is the greatest appetite demon and they must stop it.
Worse thing is how chapters feel like a chore reading, even the ones with some semblance of entertainment. Problem is how much information has been dumped on us every chapter since the end of the Bambina stuff. Instead of it happening organically through actions and little bits of information, exposition has been the name of the game for almost a year now. I want to enjoy the panels of Neo being a monster, but then here's all this text that I need to read to understand everything that's going on. While Bleach has so little going on with explanation for plot and world building, Toriko is on the exact opposite side with too much explaining. We also hit a snag where characters are making comments, but I don't even care what they have to say. Gourmet Knight says he can't understand that feeling, but I only know he's a friend of Toriko and that's it. If he was a developed character over time I might've cared but for now he's just another face in the crowd. We're nearing what is supposed to be the epic finale and I care for only two of the four kings, and very few of the side characters. I have no investment in the Neo organization nor the monster Neo, and the lack of adventure over the past few years has just made me apathetic to the series.
