Firefighters are the National Superheroes.
Alongside the Mailman. -
Imma need this translated. Looks really promising
-
That looks.. GREAT
-
The first chapter was really great, vibrant and refined. For sure this will be a hit. Love how the concept was developed throughout the chapter.
-
Chapter 0 English scanlation.
It's good to have Ohkubo back.
-
The MC is so Yoko.
And by now Maki is best girl. -
been a very long time since I have been interested in a new manga. this has a neat concept I'll definitely follow this one
-
Great to have Ohkubo back, in the weekly magazine hope to get a lot of wonderful spreads.
-
ahhh I must have missed the detail that this was weekly. Certainly looking forward to adding this to my list of 'must reads' per week. No doubt, it is far more polished than Soul Eater in terms of presentation. Ohkubo definintely went a long way,
-
dat fuckin' spread of the characters. Classic Soul Eater vibe, I'm digging this already.
-
This concept is really unique. I hope it takes off. So far I'm impressed. I like the smarmy smile flaw. The ability users and having a Sister as part of the team. Also that their leader just works out everywhere lol.
-
Really good chapter, can't wait for the next one
-
Wait, so GanGan lost yet another of their biggest mangaka to another publisher?
Ouch, haven't read that magazine in a while but I imagine it's a hollow shell now. -

It has Barakamon and Handa-kun, right now.
-
@Kaizou:
It has Barakamon and Handa-kun, right now.
Certainly a nice title, but as a franchise less than half of Soul Eater (not to mention the massive giant FMA)
Then again, GanGan was never that huge a magazine, so one could say their glory days are over and they just reverted back to their normal state.I'm not subscribed to Shounen Magazine right now, because after Again! ended and Yamada-kun became boring, I realized I just didn't give enough of a fuck to keep it. Okubo coming to Magazine might make me want to read again.
(I keep sub of Bessatsu because I feel its' the best read out of Magazine line up right now. YM is pretty good too, but there's just too few manga I'm interested in it.) -
Gangan has Kishimoto too (not the one you're thinking of, the other one)
anyway, I liked chapter zero so I'll follow this manga
i hope the fireball creatures from the color pages become regular characters in this manga
-

I doubt it. They are at same level as Soul Eater; heck, Handa-kun is already popular even without an anime. So, those two are definitely pretty big series. But, it is true that they are nowhere near FMA (it will be very, very, very, very, and very hard to find series with same popularity as FMA; especially for lesser known magazine).
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Gangan has Kishimoto too (not the one you're thinking of, the other one)
Yeah, but it isn't popular. Having Kishimito's brother is very different from having Kishimoto, himself.

I wish that was true, but Barakamon is still only at 4 mill for all 12 volumes, and Handakun is at 230k (+ whatever the third vol sold)
Nowhere close to 13 million at 25v Soul Eater achieved, at least not yet.
I've no doubt the title can achieve that level of success in the future (given if it last as long), but it hasn't reached there yet.Believe it or not, Soul Eater was one of the top 5 biggest franchise GanGan has ever had.

Handa-kun sold 1.3 million within 4 volumes. Plus, the biggest thing is that two series (original + spin-off) are selling really high. I know that Soul Eater is one of top 5 best selling Gangan series, but its spin-off wasn't very popular (even animation was awful). As compared to that, there isn't much example for series that have success in both original and spin-off. Thus, it has possibility to make big franchise as well; heck Handa-kun's popularity may also going to increase because of anime.

Oh wow, 1.3 million is a massive boost. They were only at 230k two volumes ago.
It'll still take a few more years before it's Soul Eater level though.I didn't deny the possibility, I'm saying you're a little ahead of yourself declaring it a equal franchise. It's like declaring One Piece is equal franchise to Dragon Ball, but back in 2000. :P

It'll still take a few more years before it's Soul Eater level though.I know that they are not at SE's level; I'm saying that they have potential to become big. Barakamon's sale is still growing and Handa-kun's popularity is high without an anime. So, when Handa-kun's popularity increase after the anime, then they going to release more than SE's level (two heads are better than one).

I don't disagree, but you weren't being clear with this refute quote, man.
I doubt it. They are at same level as Soul Eater
Can't read your mind bro, just what you type.
EDIT: I'm very happy for the spin-off's massive boost though, it deserves it!
Meanwhile I'mma go buy WSM issue to check out some firefighter goodness. I'll see if it's worth subscribing. -

You don't enjoy The Seven Deadly Sins?
-
I liked it. I love Ōkubo's artstyle.
Predictions:
There will be 4th Generation
Pyromaniacs are going to be the enemies
Main character can probably transform into some kind of fire creature
Probably different fire colors for different level of people -
You don't enjoy The Seven Deadly Sins?
For what it's worth it's a far cry from what it could have been. I was one of its biggest enthusiast and it lost me in all of Nakaba's worst aspects that I hoped he would have fixed since Kongou Banchou. Really the only endearing thing about that series are the sins themselves interacting with each other. But enough derailment.
-

What are they?????
-
Fuck I love the art. I'm really looking forward to reading this every week.

The question wasn't directly to you but kay.
-
The art alone is enough to make me feel nostalgic and I really loved the chapter. Then again Soul Eater is my favorite manga so I am not surprised.
-

Doesn't mean I can't comment on it lmao. I mean you know how forums work, right?
If you want to exclude people from chiming in we have this feature I believe it's called private messages also known as pm, but kay. -
It just seemed kinda random.

I'm not writing about opinion, it is fact. Plus, Gangan is way different when SE is leading the series as compared to right now. Back then, SE, itself, had to lead the magazine by itself, but right now, both Barakamon and Handa-kun are leading the series (two heads are better than one).
-
I remember when I heard that this was coming and thinking that the premise itself was so ridiculous that it would probably be amazing somehow, and I'm honestly intrigued following this first chapter. Excited to see how this one goes!
-

I'm wondering if this is a language barrier kaizou, but:
"They are at same level as Soul Eater"
"I know that they are not at SE's level;"These are direct contradiction of each other lol.
It's semantics now, since you've made clear of your intention, but you have to admit it wasn't clear at all in your first statement.
two heads are better than one
Certainly, but I'm not sure you could separate them as two independent franchise, since one is but a spin-off of the other.
It's really just one big franchise. It's really off-topic, so I'll put these in spoiler
! We'll have to wait till 2016 to see how these franchise will bring GanGan back up again.
! In 2004 GanGan peaked at 370k circulation with FMA serializing.
In 2010 when FMA ended, the circulation was 150k
It continued to drop, and in 2013 when Soul Eater ended it was 50k.
! Right now it's sitting at 30k circulation, lost nearly 40% down since Soul Eater ended.
These are actual hard numbers, not arbitrary impressions.
! With Barakamon's popularity though, hopefully it'll rise back to 40k with 2015, and perhaps back to 50k range within the next couple of years! You don't enjoy The Seven Deadly Sins?
It's ok. Doesn't interest me enough to keep a WSM sub.
Honestly it's the least appealing of his works to date. Wish he could continue on the line of Ultra Red.As for this title, the world seems quirky enough to coexist with SE. (though I doubt it, since publisher changed.) I'd love to see subtle cameos and references, just for fun.

I changed my argument after I rechecked how much Barakamon/Handa-kun were selling. They were slightly lower than SE's sale; that's why I changed my argument (I forgot to mentioned that, so that part is my fault). However, I'm still arguing about Barakamon/Handa-kun going to reach SE's level in near future since Barakamon's selling is increasing and Handa-kun's sale going to improve after its anime aired.
Certainly, but I'm not sure you could separate them as two independent franchise, since one is but a spin-off of the other.
It's really just one big franchise.I'm not arguing them as separate franchise; I'm arguing them as one franchise. However, both of them have very good sale, and they have higher thank sale adding them together. This is way better as compared to when SE's two series were serializing.

Right now, the decline of magazine circulation is very clear throughout the publisher (like even Shounen Jump and Shounen Magazine are decreasing year-by-year). Is this because of they don't have popular series? No, it is trend that the readers are shifting from paper reading to digital reading, and Gangan is also impacting this trend. Gangan's circulation will keep decreasing and any popular series won't able stop this decline (and you just proved that by showing Gangan's magazine circulation on your spoiler). The magazine circulation doesn't prove anything about which franchise is bigger than the other.
-
@Kaizou:
However, I'm still arguing about
See, there's the problem. Because you're arguing on subject that there is no argument on. I've already said three times that I agree.

I know what the market trends are, and they've been a slow slope decline.
See, none of the magazines you mentioned had a immediate 40% sharp drop in 1 year.Shounen Jump lost 6~7% over the course of two years.
Shounen Sunday lost 18% over the course of two years.
Shounen Magazine lost 15% over the course of two years.ONLY Shounen GanGan had such a drastic sharp decline, and it was immediately following end of Soul Eater.
Losing a flagship series was clearly the major factor here, not just general market trends. -
ONLY Shounen GanGan had such a drastic sharp decline, and it was immediately following end of Soul Eater.
Losing a flagship series was clearly the major factor here, not just general market trends.Again, it is off topic. I don't know why you keep bringing magazine circulation for Gangan for. To prove that Soul Eater is flagship series? I know Soul Eater is flagship series for Gangan and losing it is very drastic thing for Gangan. I'm trying to talk about Barakamon/Handa-kun are new flagship for Gangan, not about SE being not flagship for Gangan.
-
That makes not a lick of sense.
I didn't start this, YOU did.
I simply said GanGan must be hurting after SE ended. You came in saying otherwise, the burden of proof is on your shoulders, not mine. I'm simply being civil by providing them. You started the argument, not me.
The point is, your favorite manga Barakamon is a new flagship series, but hasn't picked up the pace to provide GanGan with a boost yet. It's still in the infant stages of becoming a big title. You keep saying "but it's going to be big!" which I have not ONCE disagreed with.
Dude, you need to really collect your thoughts and not box shadows.

how often is this getting a new chapter?

This is weekly, but if you talk when MS is gonna post it, then dunno
-
Still no 2nd chapter yet?
-
Still no 2nd chapter yet?
It's not scanslated, you know where to look. Where you read it the first time.
-
I was wondering when Ohkubo was going to get back into the game. I really like the art and concept this series has involved with it. Plus a main character that smiles in awkward situations? Yeah, I'll read it.
-
Finally
-
ok, that was a cool chapter, i'll definitely follow this manga
it's gonna be interesting seeing how Shinra differentiate himself from the other wsm fire lord Natsu
-
Is that how you hold an axe?
