I'm curious about the Octobrush in terms of whether it handles differently than the regular brush. But I probably won't be testing it during Splatfest.

Kinda willing to test it. Could cause some harm with those beacons, which I haven't gotten to use before.
-
I'll stick with the weapon I have, but maybe I'll test it out later.
On a side note, all of my rerolls have gotten different abilities for each set of clothing! A jack of all trades. :D
-
Team Eat for me. It was a really hard choice, but in the end I can't deny the sweet, sweet taste of potato chips and apples.I'm loving the new N-Zap. The original one was the first shooter I fell for, but I wasn't fond of it's sub and special. On the other hand, I love both the sprinkler and the inkstrike, so this was love at first sight.
My current weapon rotation would be N-Zap '89/E-Liter 3K (both models)/Sploosh-o-matic, with Carbon Roller and the Inkbrush having regular appearances. Still feel like a noob, but I'm slowly learning.
-
Urgh, I think I lost every splatfest match I did. é_é
But hey, level 16 ain't bad.

I chose roller coasters fully expecting it to be more popular so I could get those sea snails. Turns out you can win in spite of popularity tho
-
Oh wow. My team won for totally the opposite reason that I predicted.
-
Moray Towers best stage. I love being able to keep jumping from above.
Is there any way to enable hiragana and whatnot for a Wiiu set to English? I sent a friend request to someone, but I couldn't write her a message in Japanese. :(

[translation]“An image was sent by our researchers. We don’t think we have seen this before, we’re wondering if it could’ve been sent by mistake. Something seems a little different…”
this was posted by the official Splatoon twitter.
-
Looks like they're trying to dispel any (Octo)lingering doubts about whether they'll be playable or not.
-
The translation is crap but whatever, that's pretty cool. Also thanks to that tweet I'm now aware of the awesome Japanese name for an Octoling - Takozo. (Well, technically Takozonesu, but dat pun).

That pun, indeed. I need to learn Japunese…

I won't edit it but here's my 30-second version:
We received this single sketch from a researcher.
It looks like an Octoling… hey, haven't we seen her before?
Maybe it was sent on accident...
Huh? Looking closely, something looks a little different...
Oh, Ohh, Ohhhhhh!!! -
Not gonna lie, that's actually pretty hype. Pretty much confirms them as playable.
And I third that being a great pun.
-
There's a new map coming tomorrow: Camp Triggerfish.
Looks good, and it's not a reworked single-player map, so that's great.
-
Woo new stage! Gonna keep me interested in the game for another weekend. I hope we get that promised August update and the Takozos soon.

I'm pretty sure it's more the case of those single-player maps being re-worked multiplayer maps.
Also, interestingly, Triggerfish is one of the first ones we saw during the direct. Surprised it wound up coming so much later than a bunch of other ones.

-
Heavy Weapons Squid confirmed.
-
How many ink buckets costs to fire that weapon for 12 seconds?
-
Before I forget, last night I recorded some matches. Below are the first I posted to youtube, both featuring Foolio, Ouroboros and I in the same team
-
Glad I was able to avenge your death on Triggerfish XD.
-
Bonus vengeance points for killing that N-zap fucker. He was a real pain in the ass to deal with that night.
-
I like the fact that the only guy in your team that is not Ouro or Foolio is a random japanese guy.
-
Nice to see another good brush around! I think it's one of the most underrated weapons, despite being able to reach absurd amount of points between brushing, sprinkling and nuking (one time i got 1806 in Triggerfish for example). I really don't understand why aren't more of them around, since whenever i get to see one they're average or worse with it.
At the very beginning i thought that it was just a fast roller with awful range like everyone else, but when you start using it, you barely even rely to "rolling" with it, and you just brush and sprinkle everywhere. However, there is still use in rolling to the ground with it, especially with faster movements as inkling, since you can either run from bubbles/krakens, or other annoying situations, and you can also leave tiny traces of ink to either reach big zones unnoticed, or even messing with someone trailing you.
It's a super fun weapon and it saddens me to see so little of it in general

I feel like that in the sense that every time I've come upon other brushes its people who clearly don't know how to use them properly. But overall what I like the most about the weapon is that the speed enables for some really douchy shenanigans I can't do with other weapons, and there's been many times I can ink up a wall and come down on an unsuspecting victim brushing like a madman from above. It's a very satisfying weapon.
We actually had another brush appear last night, but that dude was terrible, pretty much sank whichever team he was on and I got him several times while he was being incompetent lol
And I agree with Ouro, that Nzap guy was killing me IN EVERY MATCH. Dude knew exactly where to find me, or did so by chance, pretty much every time. Super annoying.

Mark your calendars kids and squids
http://mynintendonews.com/2015/07/27/heres-all-the-details-for-major-new-splatoon-update-coming-august-6th/On 6th August, a free software update for Splatoon on Wii U brings a large amount of new content to the game, including two new matchmaking modes, new weapon types, an increase to the game’s level-cap and more than 40 pieces of new gear. Players will now be able to create a winning strategy and fight to be the best and most battle tested squid-squad around.
The new update introduces Squad Battle and Private Battle matchmaking options. In Squad Battle, players can participate in Ranked Battle rule sets with friends, rather than being teamed up with other players through a random selection. After a player creates a squad, friends can be recruited to form a team of two to four Inklings. Friends will always play together on the same team and battle against other squads at random.
In Private Battle, friends can splat it up in private, customisable matches. Two to eight friends can battle together by selecting their favourite map, mode and weapons. The number of participants ranges from 1v1 to 4v4, but teams don’t have to be even: if the host chooses, he or she can select a 1v4, 1v2, or any other combination of players.
With this robust new update also comes an increased level cap in both Regular Battle and Ranked Battle modes. After downloading the software update, players will be able to reach level 50 (raised from level 20) and rank S and S+ in Ranked Battle (both higher than A+).While Inklings around the world are enjoying and mastering the current arsenal of weapons in Splatoon, two new weapon types will be available with the update, adding a new layer of strategy to the game. The bucket-like Slosher weapons hurl ink straight ahead at an impressive range. By adjusting the angle, these new weapons can be used to splat opponents who are up high or even on the other side of a wall. With the Gatling-style Splatling, players can charge all-powerful ink. A maximum charge unleashes the full potential of this particular weapon type. In addition to the new weapons, more than 40 pieces of gear, including everything from a leather jacket to a sushi-chef costume are coming to the various in-game shops in Splatoon. Despite its size and scope, this massive August update is not the end of the splat-tacular free content coming to Splatoon. Following this update, more content will continually roll out through the rest of the summer and into autumn, including the Rainmaker Ranked Battle mode, additional maps and new weapons. More details on these additions will be revealed in the future.

That's super exciting. I wonder if squad battles ARE ranked, or just involve ranked modes. I also wonder how smart it will be. Like if I create a squad of 4, but only two of us are online, will it let us play and fill the other 2 with randoms? Or if I create a squad that's only 3 to begin with, will it fill the 4th slot or will it only look for 3v3 matches?
Private is the playground we've all wanted, although with no randoms involved at all, it might be hard to get lobbies going with enough people. I wonder if we can create a group sort of like the private Mario Kart 8 tournaments, where the lobby stays up "permanently." That way we could have an AP lobby going where it didn't matter if the creator was online (I assume the first person to join would get host privileges at any given time).
Level cap increase is awesome! Though now I really wish it could retroactively apply my experience, since I've played so freaking much lately. I wonder if the new levels will actually mean anything though. Such as weapons being level-restricted again, at higher levels. I kinda doubt that one, but we'll see what they do. Either way the increase is nice. The ranked cap increase with the S range is sort of meaningless to me since I can never have smooth matches there anyway. I haven't played ranked since Tower mode came out, where I played around there, so I'm still at B+. Rainmaker will possibly get me to revisit it, although I might just do that in squad battle.
New gear and new weapons is also always good.

Nintendo: "More shit for you to collect from incompetent shopkeepers who keep stocking shit you already have!"
Foolio: "Yay!"Completionists, man… :P
But yeah, sounds like good news all around. Except for the part where shops will still be fucking stupid and keep offering you shit you already own. I hope there aren't too many new green clothes, because that'll mean more hassle for me. Also, maybe now that we'll be able to host completely private matches my lag can cease to be a thing. It was never an issue in Mario Kart 8! Hopefully it's the Japanese's fault, and all-AP matches will work perfectly...
-
I might play Splatoon again once the big update hits but i'd only play in squad battles
-
I think I have all the clothes but I dunno. Haven't seen a new piece of clothing in the shops for weeks
Man I really hope they would separate the two ranked modes already. I'm good at splatzones but suck shit at Tower Control. But I'm forced to play against A people in Tower Control anyway.
Oh and the updates look pretty cool. For god's sake Nintendo please allow voice chat in the custom lobbies.
-
Ok, the update plus having beaten Batman already makes me super interested in Splatoon again!
Squad Battles and Private Lobbies is a big plus IMO.
-
I think I have all the clothes but I dunno. Haven't seen a new piece of clothing in the shops for weeks
I actually checked out of curiosity. I have all shoes and headgear, but I only have 69/76 shirts (including Amiibo ones, excluding Splatfest tee which shows up in online lists). I also hadn't seen anything new in weeks until last night one new shirt went up. And it was a 1-star.
-
Level 50? That's ridiculously high, and I don't want to even know how many points it'll take to reach it.
Just got to A rank, so I guess it's nice knowing that there will be an S rank means I still have a long time before I reach the top and quit playing ranked to keep that nice, shiny S+. If I ever reach it, that is.
-
Someone on reddit calculated that it would take about 130 hours of gameplay time to get to level 50 assuming 1000 points in turf war every time.
That's not too bad considering you can get 4500 in ranked. Maybe more if you get to S+ rankI actually checked out of curiosity. Oh yeah I don't even care about stars anymore because it's so easy to upgrade
Maybe I should just level up all my clothes to thee stars just so I have something to spend money onDid you look on a wiki or something or does the game tell you how many clothes you still need?

Looks like Urchin Underpass is being renovated for the 8/6 update.

Here's a little clarification on how playing with friends will work.
-
So somehow squad battles are going to find an average rank and place you in matches that are ranked. Interesting. I don't really care as long as I get to build teams. I like the way 2-person squads work, not so happy with 3-person squads. But oh well. I'd love to do 4, but I'm not sure that's going to logistically happen easily, getting 4 people online at once. Me, Noqanky and Ouroboros tend to play fairly frequently, but that's still only 3. Maybe Deviant_Laggen, as long as he only lags out opponents :ninja:
Doesn't quite clarify how private lobbies work. They might just be matches set up in the moment and not lobbies you can leave open after you leave.
-
Kind of a shame playing with friends doesn't give you points. I get it's so that you can't game the system, but given there's no option to reliably stay with someone in turf war it's pretty much get gud at ranked or play turf war and risk being placed with whoever you're playing with only sporadically.
-
They're adding S Ranks while I'm stull stick at B? sigh… oh well
I really hope this update will increase traffic on the game again though. Lately whenever I have been playing at noon I had serious trouble even finding a match-up…
-
I wish I hadn't gotten in the game so late. I would've snatched a Splatoon 3-pack if I only knew :C
Also the communication errors are getting on my nerves now (murdered 50 of my points on ranked!!!) so I invested in a LAN adapter already -___- Hopefully that will help out. -

Also the communication errors are getting on my nerves now (murdered 50 of my points on ranked!!!) so I invested in a LAN adapter already -___- Hopefully that will help out.It doesn't. Been using a LAN adapter that Foolio gave me since before the game came out, and disconnects still happen, presumably because even if your internet is great that of others may not be quite up to par.
Granted, I'm not entirely sure if there would be MORE disconnects without it, haven't really tested that. Though 50 points sounds absurd, hopefully that doesn't happen again
-
Yeah, I also have the LAN adapter, and it isn't all it's cracked up to be. I haven't had much dropped matches lately, though, but that's mostly because I haven't been playing much as of late.
-
I'm on wifi because I know my wireless capabilities far exceed what the Wii U actually utilizes. I think it has a lot more to do with whether your ISP or route to other players is slow, or just other players' crap connections lagging out an entire match as Noqanky mentioned. I gave her my adapter because I know it adds nothing on my end.
If you actually have an unreliable connection, wired will definitely help. But it's funny how there's still this general stigma of internet being slow due to wifi. It was much more true a decade ago or more, when 802.11g was new and wireless cards sucked and you were lucky to actually get even a fraction of its theoretical bandwidth cap.
Oh and by the way I still get booted and random bullshit with some frequency. It's mostly Nintendo's fault I'm pretty sure.
-
II still have a lot to improve, and I'm more interested in smash
I'll give it a round thout. -
http://splatoonus.tumblr.com/post/125529614943/greetings-from-the-great-outdoors-as-soon-as-camp
New Splatfest coming on 8/7, the theme is Marshmallows vs Hot Dogs. I'm undecided at this point, but I'm leaning towards Hot Dogs.
-
Am I the only one rather annoyed that they're doing Splatfest the same fucking weekend that the update comes out? That presumably means squad battles won't be available that weekend. It's an immensely stupid idea. That said it's an easy choice for me since I'm vegetarian.

Are you making a joke on the fact that marshmellows have geleton which is made out of animal by products such as bones?
Honestly smores > roasted dogs.
-
I guess it's a summer camping theme. Love both, but I'll go with which has the coolest shirt color.
