I wonder how guns work against the powerful. Whitebeard got shot a lot. Bobbins got shot twice. Tiger took a lot of bullets. Pekoms took some decent shots. They to hurt and mostly incapacitate no matter how strong you are but they hardly kill.

While we're on the subject of bullets, I wonder how sea stone bullets work. Capone threatened Ceasar with them once but it was just a lie, but I highly doubt it never crossed the governments mind to make some of them. Seeing how many handcuffs they have lying around and nets made of the stuff, can it really be so hard to make them?
I'm guessing Oda's holding back on them because it'd ruin the fun in many fights, but I'd be surprised if they never make an appearance at all.

So I was talking about awakened devil fruits on another thread and it made me kind of think for a second about how, even though they were set up in Impel Down, we only officially got revealed the concept of awakened DFs on Dressrosa, which wasn't so long ago. One Piece has so, so many lingering mysteries, and a lot of these are threads that have huge scopes as large as the story itself. With so much still kept under wraps, it blows my mind that Oda managed to actually introduce a completely new twist to the DF formula in the form of awakened fruits that "late" into the story. I just wonder what he still hasn't shown us on top of the rest of the stuff we're already still in the dark about.

I had a similar thought recently with regards to the Level 6 inmates being released after Blackbeard's invasion on Impel Down. The original 5 Blackbeard Pirates are one of my favorite things ever in One Piece. They were built up so flawlessly ever since Drum and stole the show for me on Jaya. Up until that point we hadn't really seen a crew like that except back in East Blue so they stuck out even more. When I saw they got the new members I was floored. I think Shiryuu fits like a glove in the crew ever since Impel Down, but the rest are definitely pretty fitting too.
These guys are the ultimate villains of this story, which as I said has an insanely large scope. That just makes them have so much riding on them and so much to live up to. I think Oda will give them all proper due, there's no way he'd waste Blackbeard whose influence has been felt all the way back in the form of Shanks scar. I just hope he gives the rest of the crew their proper due, too. Especially the mysterious 10th member.

Not the same thing. Reverie should have the entire marine force there, like in the war with all those royals around. Too much for jack or whatever to handle, since he got defeated even by 3 marine ships.

I completely agree. But the Beast Pirates aren't exactly known for their willingness to exactly think things through in terms of the opposition. We can't forget how Kaido wanted to get into Marineford before Shanks intercepted him.
And I don't even think that Kaido himself showing up at the Reverie means he can't show up to Wano Country in time. Especially considering how he can most likely fly and we've seen him travel outside of Wano Country for the suicide attempt that got him to meet the Kid Alliance.

yeah but with the on going samurai-mink-pirate-ninja there, potentially Luffy's fleet,+Marco and Moria??, (Appo, X-Drake and Kid as wild cards), You'd expect most(if not all) of Kaido's forces at Wano to counter all the strength Luffy has gathered so far, I'm even expecting Jack to be back since he's alive and havent had a proper 1 vs 1 yet.
and as Uniaka pointed out, there will be a considerable strength there at Reverie, at least Issho's presence is confirmed since he has an issue to talk about.
In the other hand, without simply dismissing your idea, the Zou arc was really short, like waaaay too short, supposedly Oda said this Totto Land arc won't last much??, right??, well the thing is, from one big boss(Doflamingo) to other big boss(Kaido), Zou and Whole Cake may not actually gather a considerable amount of time-story-telling to properly go right for next Big Boss. So a small, few-chapters Reverie arc, could actually happen between Totto Land and Wano(why not?), and would spice things a lot actually.

I see Luffy's bounty doubling to 1 Billion. It's the perfect type of round number that Oda likes to model Luffy's bounties. Some may say that is a bit disappointing since the Yonko's bounties are bound to be over that amount, but this does not mean that Luffy will become as strong as them even if he defeats Kaido. It'll likely be a teacup, and it would be too early in the story for Luffy to hit a ceiling in his strength growth like that.
Anybody else is a complete guess. Although I bet Zoro will go above 500,000,000. I'm also not sure if the Straw Hat Pirates will even get new bounties in the series after the raises they'll get at the end of Wano Country.

Well I meant that Blackbeard would take credit for it. I have thought a couple of ways Blackbeard could be considered the pirate king without him going through ~stealing~ it from Luffy, or obtaining One Piece. He holds a public execution of all 3 other emperors.
I can picture Luffy fighting Kaido the way he fought Lucci. I think Kaido's arc will be very similar to Enies Lobby. That's where every Straw-Hat (including Luffy) will show their power-ups from the timeskip.

No, you got it the first try. I don't really know how to feel about the fact that the only solo battle she will actually have after Skypiea will be against the Blackbeard Pirates at the end of the story.

I think that I remember Gan Fall helping out with that. But that fight is way too lame to bother rereading to make sure lol.
It's a shame, because One Piece started of as quite a trailblazer when it came to their female protags. The mere fact that Nami has multi chapter fights (much less 2) goes above and beyond anything we saw in Dragon Ball, Naruto or Bleach. Coupled with the fact that fan service with Nami and Robin was kept a minimum (Present, but not Mashima levels present). It's kinda a bummer that it's reversed itself.
I wouldn't call two multi-chapter fights anything especially groundbreaking even in comparison to other series; Sakura fought Sasori and Rukia had a fight in every arc after Soul Society. Also, Nami' s fights weren't a facet of earlier times in the series; Alabasta and Enies Lobby were quite far apart and the fact that Nami had absolutely no 1v1s in East Blue pretty much nullifies the "old times" argument to me. Female mcs not usually getting fights has always been a staple of the series.
Ultimately, it's a concession I have to make to enjoy this medium (not hard, since fights rarely factor in how I view characters, and both Nami and Robin are great). Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see them fighting, but I have to respect that it's not the kind of thing Oda' s intended demographic wants to see. If I tune into a kid's show, I could go on about how I hate the jokes in them, but at the end of the day I have to acknowledge that the jokes aren't written for someone my age. So then I would have the choice of whether to keep watching the series, or drop it because it's just too culturally dissonant. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to discourage criticism, but it does irk me a bit when people complain time and time again about something that's never going to change.

If I remember correctly Absalom's defeat was team work Sanji/Nami, and so was Wadatsumi's defeat Sanji/Jinbe, Mr Prince hasn't gotten proper and decent 1 vs 1 since Enies Lobby too, and seems like instead of giving hell to the asshole who ruined his life, is saving him instead. Guess we gotta wait until Wano :/ but a really wish Big Mom leave Sanji and Judge fight.

Sanji will likely get a lot of exposure as Morganz will document what happens at the Tea Party, where Sanji will play a massive role.
Why is that weird? Luffy has a bounty of 500 million, Sanji has a bounty of 177. These guys have been in the New World for a very short time, the Yonko have been there for years and years. These will obviously increase, possibly (likely) after Sanji is observed fighting with Big Mom's crew/Germa 66.

Continuing my anime watch-through, and I can't help but wonder what'd happen if Smoker replaced Coby.
I understand that Oda is building up Coby to become an important figure one day, but he's just so boring. I never find myself rooting for him. And it's a shame, he's been with us longer than Zoro and is Luffy's marine counterpart, yet I feel nothing for him. Smoker on the hand, I love that guy. Luffy legitimately fears him. He's interesting, actively opposes the corruption in the marines while following his own justice. And he actually knows how Luffy thinks and doesn't underestimate him.
So I wonder what would've happened if we just removed Coby. Maybe have Smoker meet Luffy in the second chapter and have Luffy somehow getting away (he's not a criminal yet so there's reason for Smoker to arrest him). As for Coby ending the war, it's a good scene but it's not impossible to push it onto someone else. Not Smoker, he's to rough for that. Maybe Tashigi? Could give her some development and it fits her personality (not that it'd ever happen, but shh this is a 'what if' scenario).

Oh c'mon, Coby was just a regular pathetic boy who was enslaved by a pirate and has grown to be a Captain in just over 2 years. That's a meteoric rise! Who else in the series has grown this much!? Even Usopp had a stronger base out of which to grow, his sniping skills were nice to begin with. Coby has grown tremendously, not only in terms of power, but in sheer will, courage. His moment in Marineford was great! Can't wait to see how he's doing now in the manga itself. That said… Smoker is too damn awesome to be discarded as a rival like this. Let's hope he has some shining moment when we get to Vegapunk. Even in the misery of his defeats at Punk Hazard, he was a damn boss. That fight against Vergo and him going in prepared to die to avenge Vergo's betrayal of G5? Putting himself in harm's way in order to retrieve Law's heart in order to repay a debt towards a pirate!? Powerful stuff.

That's exactly what makes Coby's character portrayal so tragic though! Coby has had the biggest growth spurt (literally lol) throughout the series. His post-timeskip self might even be stronger than early pre-timeskip Luffy now. And yet he's doomed to always be eclipsed by how far the other characters have grown and look practically powerless. I can't think of a more hilarious way to present a long-term character, especially when characters like Usopp manage to find a way to still look relevantly competitive in their specific skillsets. XD The Marineford moment was great though, don't get me wrong.
I wish that G5 was actually made up of even a single character I could give a damn about so that Smoker's willingness to sacrifice himself actually felt like it really meant something besides generic heroic badassery.

I don't like gear fourth being both faster than gear second(The speed he used to bitch slap Doffly at the start) and stronger than gear 3(that last punch that destroyed part of the city).
I always used to love that each gear bring his specific advantage. They were power ups compare to Luffy's base form but not compared to each other. They were different skillset that Luffy was to choose from. Now they are simply lower transformation that has to be used due to Luffy not mastering the new one yet.
