As in this chapter is was shown that Kyros is purely swordsman I would say that his only wound came from Rayleigh as Rayleigh for me was previous greatest swordsman in the world, before Mihawk became one.

If Kyros was world known and a swordsman, then to prove being gratest somebody holding title of best must have had challenged Kyros.

Both seem to be very good theories. I initially thought DD would be the one to give him the wound, but either Rayleigh or Mihawk makes quite a bit of sense as well.

I guess both Mihawk and Rayleigh are plausible theories as for the wound, but i would not classify Kyros as a swordsman. Technically, he is not using a real blade. He using a prop-sword as a blunt weapon. He was wielding a pipe before he got into the colusseum.

yes he uses the alias as a way of not facing the crew, he was brave enough to save robin but not face luffy ect. yet, different type of fear, but still an usopp thats hiding behind an image because of fear of the others(crew/ex-crew) view of him, now he's facing his own view of himself in the world as Usopp the Liar, and letting the world know via the most gullible race every, that he's ready to step in to his own and be an honest man.

This chapter should of been titled: "741 - A habitual liar breaks down because gulible dwarfs have faith in him over the stark reality of a sadistic genocidal death torture given by a sticky man."

After reading your post and seeing the truth in that I'm still disappointed in Usopp. It's the same story over and over again. All are fighting and taking responsibility but Usopp is running… again. He made a promise before the 2y skip not to be weak and anxious anymore. That he will be able to fight and protect himself and not depending on the power trio to do it for him. After the 2y skip he said he will be different. He had a strong reintroduction. Damn. I was impressed.
And now it all is vanished. He hopes on Franky for saving the day. He runs again. He is not taking responsibility. He's anxiuos. God. If there is a development in his character it is so slow I can't see it over the years. That is awful. He's gone through a lot and he still don't has the guts / balls to believe in himself and his skills. One Piece is more than half way through. When will he brace himself? God damnit. Usopp. Or Oda. Do something.

i completely agree the reintroduction was strong and usopp seemed to be saying big things and able to back it up finally, but i guess all the bragging was still just lies? im disappointed in usopp too but in an understanding human type of way, because people do sometimes backtrack to grow as a person. I'm just glad usopp's character development is more than just gaining bravery and includes facing his lies.

By wound I mean some wound that we didnt seen yet, that leg thing might be just kind of a toy that Kyros turned into- one legged soldier and because we seen Oars lost leg we all assumed Kyros also doesnt have a leg- its possibility for me, not sure thing.

Also I somehow think that Kyros after being turned back into human will rather be attacked by Isshou. Luffy would fight with Doflamingo and Kyros would hold off Fujitora.

After so many fights, challenges his technique and strength must have had became near perfection. Fact that he was using pipe doesnt say much more than that he has amazing strength, if you used pipe few times and then used sword for 3000 fights you are not a pipeman but a swordsman Dull blade or not, sword is a sword.

This entire mini-arc was so overplayed by Ussop leaving his friends behind which would have never happened before, his entire character is nice big clusterfuck of a mess right now. Ussop being a coward made sense when he was thinking of running away and being scared many times beforehand when on the island and going to the mission, and being relieved that other strawhats are likely to fight the strong DD pirates instead of him having to get involved. That was typical Ussop that's enjoyable when not overplayed. However what transpired afterwards was freaking pathetic and it's kind of sad people roaring and beating on their chest implying that Ussop is somehow vindicated after acting like a bitch that would leave his friends behind. Whoever said that Ussop ate the pussy pussy no mi earlier seemed to have hit the right note, because I totally agree.

This. This so much.

This was character development back on Arlong Park. This was character development back on Alabasta. And this was character development back on Water Seven/Eneis Lobby. The point is… Oda has used this same trope of Usopp being scared so he runs away, but then comes back and fights due to guilt or someone insulting his allies too many times already. On Fishman Island, Usopp was showing that while he's still Usopp he has definitely developed into a more reliable person. During Punk Hazard, it seemed he was back to being more of a scaredy cat, but it was played mostly for laughs so it wasn't a big-deal... But this most recent situiation with him blaming Franky and then out right running awaY? How is that character development? Yeah he came back all bad-ass and said some pretty cool stuff, but the problem was already done - He ran away. Tried to on multiple occasions... and then was blaming Franky as well. He's back to early series Usopp....

It's regression. Honestly, his whole badass moment afterwards was completely cheapened for me because of this. And it's not something I expect of Oda. This is Bleach/Naruto/FT level bad here and I hope that Oda isn't losing his touch.

Sure Usopp's always been cowardly. He's always been a liar. The key, here, is that he has also always been SELFISH. Hell, the entire Strawhat crew is!
What friend has Usopp abandoned so far this arc? The Tontatta? They're acquaintances that he just met this morning… or is it afternoon? And he hasn't even really abandoned them! Look at what he's freaking doing!

Goodness, people. Cut the guy some slack.

I'm sure he's also said multiple times while being serious that he won't run away again when people are counting on him. It just ignore's all the development thus far, just so he can have another "Usopp runs away but no he's coming back due to feeling guilty" moment that we've already had.

It's Kubo-level of bad writing. That's why I can't "cut any slack".

At fishman island he fought hand to hand with his whole crew and thats first thing.

Second thing is that Daruma is a bit less of an enemy than Trebol and not only by the looks.

Ussop is now at New World so as he progressed level of nightmare strong enemies progressed with him After training he was 100% for conquering whole grand line but new world is whole new level of challenge so he kind of acts like his old self. It takes time and experience to change part of character, we hardly change over the time without those two things. Also 2 years its not that much. If he would already be brave warrior of the seas then whats the point?

You can't use what a fictional character from a story thinks about another fictional character as a reason. Yes, Usopp always braves up at the last moment…. but that doesn't change the fact that Oda has used this Usopp turn around before, nor does it soften the blow to Usopp's development from past arcs just because he came back again (due to guilt and pride) when he shouldn't have even ran away in the first place.

If this was any other manga, you guys would be having a riffing feild-trip. But oh no, this is One Piece. It can do no wrong. Please.

Honestly, it did with this development. It is what it is, though. Hopefully the fight will be awesome.

I see your point but i will still have to disagree. Fighting with a dull-bladed sword is essentialy like using a light mace or a jitte when it comes to actual combat technique. He would be really good at knocking people out with a heavy sword-shaped baton, but have zero experience in cutting people open with a blade. it really has nothing to do with swordsmanship.

Not to mention the fact that he also only fought other people who wielded props, so he has no experience in fighting against real swordsmen.

The simplest answer is that Doflamingo cut Kyros' leg off while disguised as someone else or using someone else as a puppet. Why overcomplicate it?

The basic combat choreography for blunt weapons and sharp weapons are completley different, because you have to aim for different critical-points. The intentions are completley different, one is to cut someone up with swift, gracious movements and the other is to knock someone out cold with a hard, brute blow to a vital point. Kyros is only used to doing the latter.
If the intention is to actually defeat someone in real combat, you can never use movements and techniques intended for blades while wielding a blunt weapon. Even if it is shaped as a sword, you cant cut anyone, wich critically affects everything. Your motions, movement and grip will be completley different.

And it goes both ways. You dont handle a sword the way you use a mace or a jitte. Kendo and real Swordsmanship are two different schools.

There was no Usoland.. he announced himself AS the SNIPER of the Strawhat Pirates and he's willing to die just for the faith the Tontattas that truly believed HE. WAS. A. LEGENDARY. HERO.

I think Usopp will find out his enemies weakness and with some help (maybe from draws, Puppet-Robin or from Dofflameon and his pal) he can still save the day.

It filled up some gaps in what I thought. Still I think on purely skill level in manga like One Piece where there are all kinds of fighters fighting each other Kyros should be categorized as swordsman.
Its shonen as I pointed before and we have people with very different abilities competing for title of Pirate King etc so it wont be so hard for me to go along if Oda decides to show Kyros facing greatest swordsman in a duel "for the title" or just because strongest wanted to test himself same as some people in this chapter were shown and that this fight gave Kyros that single wound. I hope that I changed your mind a bit about possibility as you are right on technical level yet as I explained One Piece has a bit of his own rules in regard of how accurate/close to reality it is.

So you're saying that the same stuff that we have been hearing all of the main protagonists say since day 1 is not the message that Oda is trying to send?

I am pretty sure that Oda is trying to show us that people who have a certain selfish desire to achieve their own dreams and to respect themselves are the people who do the most good, and evil, in the world.

The Strawhats are pirates. That doesn't mean they can't do heroic deeds at the same time, it just means that it has to be properly justified with respect to their individual desires and worldviews.

Usopp didn't join in this battle for the Tontattas. They are not his nakama. He has not abandoned any of his nakama on this trip. The only people he has been quick to abandon are Law and the Tontatta, who are not his friends by any stretch of the word.

I keep Usopp's timeline in my brain, so I can appreciate what he accomplished today (Ch.741) more than anyone, I really love this guys.

I keep Usopp's timeline in my brain, so I can appreciate what he accomplished today (Ch.741) more than anyone, I really love this guys.

I think maybe Oda could have pulled all of this off better, but I want to reserve judgment for when I've reread the arc in one sitting. In the moment, though, I am totally loving Usopp's comeback, too!

Well I would like to ask what moments in OP you out and out didnt like or thought could be handled better. Because honestly, this Usopp moment has gotta be one of the biggest mishaps to me and if people can't see it, then I wonder if they see the other problems OP has.

Although Luffy's battle will definitely steal the show, I'm looking forward to seeing Zoro vs Pica. Though Zoro vs Pikachu would be more entertaining :ninja:
Anyway, if I were Pica I'd start by just replacing the floor under Zoro with a big hole. Or turning the palace into a big maze. That'd be funnier.

Sugar was really cute in this chapter, as she is in most chapters especially the panel a couple people have taken as an example that she might switch sides. But I'm about ready to see her knocked out through the power (not just physical) of Mansopp.

Yeah bro, we also have feeling you know, you have probably heard awful things about this forum but we're pretty friendly and accept all types of criticism and the thing about Bleach and Naruto is the THEY'RE pretty bad, I loved Naruto back when he was this kid trying harder than anyone else around him and now he's just Naruto the Rasegan guy and Bleach, what can I say about Bleach man.

Ahh yeah, I think some people are actually hating it because it only took Usopp a chapter and Leo had to stand for himself for the first time (He didn't believe what Trebol said about Usopp) to recognize his error, but is all good.

Dude, when did this become an argument for "Oda is perfect"? I said he knows what he's doing, but fact is.. you're looking at the wrong things if you want to see that Oda can make mistakes.
Also I totally didn't wanna call it but seems I was right, lemme guess your mindset is "The Big 3 should be equal" "Naruto and Bleach gets hated alot but why not One Piece" "One Piece has bad stuff too why are people not saying it"? and think of yourself as a defender of the unpopular and you want balance? Yeah that's not my problem.. I've dealt my fair share with guys like you, don't get me wrong, I don't hate you or anyone who thinks that but that logic is dumb.

P.S.
Oda isn't perfect but he never claims to be, but what he excels in and what he brings into the table for One Piece has no alternative.. (and this is coming from a guy who's seen 1000+ anime).

What's your point, here, Rocky? You are claiming that this entire forum is full of crazy Oda worshipers who believe he can do no wrong. But the truth is, I and a few others have been fighting a BUNCH of people over the last couple weeks who have been hating on Usopp and these latest developments.

The fact that arguments are happening means that at least some people are on your side and believe Oda's doing something wrong with the story. You should go back and read some previous chapter threads.
