I always laugh when I see the moe argument brought up.
The problem is not moe, the problem is the industry and the demographic change that forces people to focus on a single niche group of consumers to survive when it comes to Late Night anime, making it a symptom of the fundamental change in Japanese society. But then again, maybe this is a problem of what came first: The chicken or the egg?
