It's always much more fun to mock your home regions than to mock those of others.
London isn't all that, anyway. We're an overcrowded, expensive, polluted labyrinth that just about functions but no-one is quite sure why, and most of the residents have a superiority complex over the rest of the England to the extent that they're sometimes surprised when they go beyond the M25 orbital motorway and find that they can still buy lattes. I make a habit of heading back to Nottingham every so often to stop me from getting too londonheaded.

The purpose of Northeast England is to exist as the location of OLD York basically. Otherwise we couldn't have the new one.

If mr.Bean ever returns to tv i think he should really consider punching a horse

Isn't Yorkshire England's answer to Michigan.
Like I know Northwest England is apparently also a depressed area of old mines and old failed industrial places. But that actually has laudible cultural contributions and an air of "cool" to it. Like between the Beatles and Manchester's 80's bands it has things pretty covered in being cool.
So I think it's more like England's answer to New York before the 90's renassiance.
Pretty sure the Northeast is just AngloDetroit from what I know lol.
You bring great shame to the international order of Northeasts. >:(

Parts of it are pretty deprived since the coal industry in particular ceased to be a thing under Thatcher. This even extends down to parts of the East Midlands where I'm from (Nottingham). However, other parts are going strong, and it's got probably the strongest cultural identity in England outside of London.
Also, the North-East of England isn't just Yorkshire. In fact, 'North East' and 'Yorkshire' are separate regions when it comes to dividing up England.

I don't mean the technical definitions of the historic counties, I mean the general Northeast as a region. So both the literal Northeast England, and other stuff in northeast England if you catch my drift.
I mean the US census counts Maryland and Delaware as part of the South, but that's absolute nonsense from a cultural-geographic standpoint. Even Northern Virginia really isn't the South anymore.

Also don't think I'm someone from a sunny golden California beachfront laughing at Industrial depression lol.
Many many examples of that around where I am.
Fucking Californians, what do they even know about Industrial Revolutions. We were getting our arms ripped off in mills when California was just a place drunk racists beat up Chinese in!!!

It's pretty much the North, given NW England (Lancashire, Liverpool) has a lot of the same stuff. But definitions get fuzzy in the middle anyway. The biggest divide in England is basically 'London', 'Near London', 'Not London' given how much this city feeds off the rest of the country. I don't think New York City quite does the same over there?

If you don't hop on the main free way and drive past hulking gorgeous red brick factories whose main purpose now is pigeon roosts and graffiti I don't wanna hear it!!!

No NYC definitely doesn't except maybe in the Northeast US, but even that's not true since Boston, DC, and Philly all are pretty proud independent cities.
England is kind of lopsided urban wise I guess.

Yorkshire and North East are different regions, Yorkshire is very nice while NE is comparable to Michigan. I agree with everything else you said though.
Most people I know have moved out after they finished education because there's really no job prospects or opportunities. But at least the people are friendlier and less uptight in the North than the South, London is probably the least friendly place in the UK…

lol yeah i recognize this.
Some dude in Stockholm once asked my friend if we had elevators in the north
I think this is pretty universal. Big city folk will always be going on about how great ther city life is

To be fair, the international order itself is not doing too well. Apart from Argentina, China, Egypt and Denmark, (as far as I could think) most countries' North-Easts are either completely unremarkable or absolute hellholes.
And the English North-East is more rural Pennsylvania. Bunch of mines and stuff that went kaput. The industries were in the North-West. Manchester, Liverpool, Lancashire etc.
Not exactly related to the current talk, but I think it's kind of funny that regardless of how big or small a country is, there's bound to be the whole east-west thing going on. Like how there's stereotypes accorded to 'east side' and 'west side' people even through I live on an island 40 miles wide

This was not the direction I thought this thread would take.
I thought it might descend into Geek vs Nerds - or Defining what constitutes Geek culture - Instead it's about horse punching and how to justify dividing a location to because its the only accepted form of public hate.
I stand by my claim to my sister that Arlong Park are better at derailing then the Television without Pity forums.

Even though I'm not from there, most of Brazil's Northeast was pretty nice when I was visiting.
And the Northeast U.S. is one of my favorite places to visit period.

…Northeast Brazil...?
You were on maybe a resort? Because I'm pretty sure that's the poorest area.

Eh, I was visiting family in Resende, which is near Rio, but we visited up by Salvadore and Fortaleza. I mean, Salvadore is like where Delaware or Virginia is compared to New England, so it's not quite Northeast, I guess.
It seriously wasn't bad. It was beautiful up there, even if sections of it aren't as affluent as Sao Paulo and Rio.
It just struck me that i live in the north east of my country
Do you mingle with Polar Bears
No they fly north in the summer months
You wouldn't believe what 31 degrees celcius does to a polar bears wellbeing
