Also, did anyone here enjoy watching the 2000 film with Matthew Broderick?
Godzilla is a great series. Except for the 'murican one in '98.
Say, didn't the real Godzilla beat the snot outta the 'murican one in one of the later ones?

'98 actually; the film that was released in 2000 was from Toho.
Anyway, did I enjoy it?
As a generic monster film? Sorta.
As a Godzilla film? No.

He did that to everybody in Final Wars.
As a Godzilla film? No.
Care to elaborate?
I myself don't consider the film to be phenomenol by any means, but it wasn't neccessarily bad.
For the kind of CGI graphics they had back in '98, it was a pretty decent Godzilla flick. (Although it's been a decade since I've seen it, so I may be basing this off of Nostalgia.
@Rogues':

Not enough mass destruction for a Godzilla film, no radioactive breath, Zilla mainly ran away from the military, and he didn't get as much screentime as the hatchlings.
Lest we forget, '98 Godzilla was not the first American Godzilla.

I will forever love Godzilla Final Wars if only for Don Fucking Frye
!
I see they kept the cat ears.

I see they kept the cat ears.
Are we also expecting a teaser trailer at Comic-Con, or just the above sculpture for now?
Final Wars is the single greatest piece of cinema ever
Too bad Hedorah got fucked over in it, but hey everyone that wasn't Big G got fucked over
The next question I ask is going to be a very important one:
Will there be other monsters for Godzilla to fight?
Gigan? Ghidorah? Mutant Stalin?
Anything else besides 'Murican GUNS-BOMBS-GUNS Military?
I doubt we'll see any of the other Toho roster in this, but I've seen plot outlines that say that there are other monsters.
I would love a Godzilla vs King Ghidorah blockbuster, but it's easier to introduce him against the military and humans, probably.
Godzilla movies seem so…empty when he's not beating up another monster.
From what I hear at places like Toho Kingdom,Godzilla will fight two other monsters, but they will be LP originals.
In the past, Toho has always licensed individual monsters rather than just the franchise along with the entire roster. That's why Marvel, Dark Horse, and Hanna-Barbera always used lookalikes or similar creatures that already existed in that universe.
If the film is successful, then Legendary will talk about getting more of them.
No way is he going to be literally that big, right?
Obvious creative license. He'd be a friggin' walking mountain at that size.
No way is he going to be literally that big, right?
Yeah, that's TOO big. Either that's a bunch of low fog/mist covering the ground, or he's literally standing above the earth's clouds, which means his head would be sticking way up into the stratosphere.
I want Godzilla, not an Asura's Wrath reject.
@Rogues':

Without assuming something that outragous,he still comes off as a mountain on that poster. In relation to the helicopters,it looks like one of them could land between it's tail spines.

Look at bright side if end up's as being "sissy" as the 98 he would still do a huge load of destruction.:ninja:
I'm sure it's just an exaggeration,as demonstrated by a comparison to posters of the older Godzilla films. In some of them,G is dwarfing entire Tokyo, yet he is obviously much smaller in the actual movies.
Even Zilla 98 did this with it's foot poster.
It's probably fog on water.
@Rogues':
Reminds me of Asura's Wrath.
Asura's Wrath?
Seriously guys, chill out. It's just a movie poster. I'm sure they took some artistic license to make Godzilla look "big". And I didn't really of the fog (or whatever) as clouds. Just another thing that was there for effect.
Now THAT is what I think of when I think "Godzilla movie" poster!
It reminds me of the old classic Godzilla movie posters, not the dinky lizard from the '98. And yeah, his size in the movie isn't as big as is on the poster. But still Godzilla was HUGE, bigger than what the '98 version monster.
I've always pictured him bigger than skyscrapers
No way is he going to be literally that big, right?

Don't worry, he's not going to be THAT big. Those are merely toy helicopters that are hovering around Godzilla in a Steam room. Godzilla actually about 5'10'' in that pic.
Maybe I'm thinking too hard, but the poster is confusing me in terms of perspective and scale. I am going to assume Godzilla is standing in water (because if it's actual land, then that would be even more confusing). I'm also assuming his feet and legs are partially submerged which means his tail is floating slightly (or raised on its own *shrug) for this to work in terms of scale. But that can't work since we see the slope upwards in the right side of the poster. So um…yeah I'm thinking about this too hard.
From what I hear at places like Toho Kingdom,Godzilla will fight two other monsters, but they will be LP originals.
You see, that's what concerns me. That LP is opting to create their own 'original monsters' instead of licensing one from Toho. I'm afraid that at best, we'll get a Cloverfield or Pacific Rim knock-off, and at worst, a SciFi channel reject.
LP already licensed Godzilla himself to make the film, is it really that much trouble or expense to license one additional creature from the Toho roster?
If I had my pick as director, I'd go with Gigan hands-down. After all, he's infamous among Godzilla fans for having the honor of being the first monster to make Godzilla visibly bleed. (by stabbing him in the head with his blade hands no less)
I want MEgalon back
Why?
This
Whatever monsters are there in the first movie, will probably be just Godzilla fodder. They'll be slightly intimidating for a bit and then Godzilla is gonna tear them to shreds to establish it's superiority and it's status as the "king".
I have no problem with them avoiding extra expenses for such minor monsters. They'd have to get lesser monsters for the role in the first place.I think they'd rather reserve big guns like King Ghidorah for the potential sequels.
It's probably fog on water.
Asura's Wrath?
It's a massive dust cloud from all the buildings he's wreckin!

Toho might be reluctant to license monsters in general until they see how Legendary handles the property; they got burned once before by an American studio.
It makes you wonder what certain monsters would look like with today's technology and techniques.
Biollante would be amazing to see.

And you don't think that that's such a huge waste of potential?
Did Batman Begins, the first Batman film to re-launch the franchise from movie death since the 1997 failure, use only "Batman Fodder"?
Did the Spiderman films use only "Spiderman Fodder"?
Marvel, DC, and Godzilla franchises all have one thing thing in common: T_hey have an established Rogues' Gallery._ Batman Begins didn't start off with the Joker, the directors made use of lesser known villians to the public eye like Scarecrow and Ra's al Ghul, who hadn't been on screen before. The Amazing Spider-Man used the Lizard instead of the Green Goblin or Venom.
My Point is, a Rogues' Gallery is there for a reason. It's to be used. That's why the roster is there in the first place.
I understand not wanting to use Godzilla's most powerful and most dangerous enemies in his first film, his 'principal' rogues' gallery so to speak. (King Ghidorah/Mecha-King Ghidorah, Mechagodzilla, Gigan, Destoroyah, Mothra, Battra, SpaceGodzilla, and Megalon); but that doesn't neccessarily mean to fall back on "bland fodder monsters".
Because Fodder Monsters aren't memorable. At All. 3 years from now, will you remember any of the monsters from Pacific-Rim? Probably not. But 3 years from now you'll still remember who The Riddler is. Because he's a memorable villian. That's why a character's Rogues' Gallery can last for so long and be so well ingrained in pop culture. Because they are memorable, unique, and leave a lasting impression long after you've left the theater or finished the book. Another case-in-point: Alan Rickman as Hans Gruber. One of the most memorable film villains in cinema.
Every Rogues' Gallery has their top-tier, middle-tier, and low-tier villains. (Two-Face > The Ventriloquist > Condiment King). So instead of using the big-hitters, why not instead make use of Godzilla's lesser-known enemies?
enimies like Hedorah, Orga, Biollante, Moguera, Baragon, Megaguirus, etc.
This 2014 film will be Godzilla's first chance on the American big screen since the 1998 flop. This is his second debut chance. A second box-office disaster would kill the franchise for another 10 years. So No, there's no excuse for Fodder.
@Rogues':
3 years from now, will you remember any of the monsters from Pacific-Rim?
Hell yes, I will.
! The mental image of Leatherback coming out of the ocean behind Cherno Alpha isn't going away any time soon.
im a little skeptical about this after the 1999 version..at least this godzilla looks a little bit closer to his older style than the modern style
wonder if any of the other monsters will show up in the film? ( I would Like to see at least something like Mothra or Ghidorah back)

As far as I understand, the difference here is that all those Batman and Spiderman villains came as a part of their respective franchise licenses.I don't think LP had to buy another expensive license just to get Scarecrow in,nor am I sure that they would consider doing so if that had been the case.
Plus, there's the possible factor Ubiq mentioned.
Put together, these two factors would make it to much of a hassle to get low-tier members of the Rogue's Gallery as you put it.

According to those who went to the 2012 Comic-Con, Legendary posted a teaser trailer that included Godzilla and a "gigantic centipede-like monster". Although there's no way to know right now if that "Centipede-like monster" would make the final film cut.
Put together, these two factors would make it to much of a hassle to get low-tier members of the Rogue's Gallery as you put it.
I hear ya, I'm just really really hoping that the film doesn't blow ala The Lone Ranger, because as Ubiq said, the Japanese licensor (Toho) have already been badly burned once before by an American studio with the '98 failure, so if this reboot goes south, then image how severely difficult it would be to regain trust and licensing rights for another American Gozilla film.
Keeping my fingers crossed for this one.
If Legendary screws up or the film bombs despite being good, the most likely result would be Toho plunging forward with a new film to salvage Big G's reputation.
That's what happened last time anyway.
Asura's Wrath?
Video game? came out a while ago? might've ignored it because you were too busy with other things or annoyed by Capcom's business decisions that preceeded this.

With an incredibly superior American dub again.

Warners is getting these taken down soon as they appear; sure is terrible how people are trying to give them free publicity.
I knew they would take it too seriously. But whatever, they got the look and the sound right, should be fun eh?

Is that the 2001 chant I heard?
Also, excellent use of the Oppenheimer quote.
There's a building with a Godzilla shaped hole in it. The original USA version also had that. How does one do that.
That roar lacks strength, but at least it's design is better than I expected.
Awww yeah! I cannot wait.
