They explained it as Liquid being dumb and wrong, as the dominant/ recessive split thing never made any sense
Metal Gear Solid V: Survive is some real far waters exploitation
-
-
I haven't played it in 13 years but wasn't Liquid only wrong about who got the Dominant Genes
Or whatever the shit the Soldier Genome Project was about

Just for curiosity, what are you guys most interested for?
Ground Zeroes or Revengeance? -
@The:

Basically, Liquid Snake thought that his brother was the dominant one and was rather pissed and jealous to know that he was "garbage" since the day he was born. Therefore, he wanted revenge against Snake and Big Boss to break the curse of his lineage (surpassing them to make a name for himself and not being the inferior one). However, Ocelot reveals to us that Liquid was actually the superior all along which makes sense cause Liquid was always one step ahead of Snake and mastered more disciplines. Ironically, Solid Snake accomplishes what Liquid wanted to do by defeating him and rejecting his inherent enjoyment of war. The moral and story of the game are very similar to the film "Welcome to gattaca" (a world where human beings are organized based on their genes) of not being a prisoner to fate (genes and war) that human beings can decide for themselves how they wish to live their lives. Solid Snake goes beyond his genes (his inherent desire for to kill) and decides to live and fight for something else better than war.
@kagekageking Ground Zeroes hands down because it has a story and a soul.
-

Ground Zeroes or Revengeance?Ground Zeroes easily. Not that I don't expect Revengeance not to be good since it's being made by Platinum Games and they have a solid track record.
-
I'm excited for both, I'm not gonna pick one. I may end of enjoying Revengeance more tho as it's more my style of game. Being able to actually have control over your sword slices has been a fantasy of something I've wanted in a game for a long time.
As for the four snakes being identical, while it is visually hard to show this due to the difference in graphics the actual canon of the games makes it quite clear that they are visually a match. But to play the visual game, Big Boss in MGS3 looks just like Snake did in Twin Snakes/MGS2, with Liquid in Twin Snakes also looking identical sans hair. Solidus is the only one that is hard to get a visual match on due to his age would put him visually on the same page as old Big Boss, but we only actually got a 3D polygonal old Big Boss in MGS4 which had a huge graphical boost. But again, as per canon, it was stated that Solidus was actually a "perfect" clone of Big Boss.
-
The only thing that makes Revengence worth getting for me is the free slicing mechanic. The game itself looks mediocre.
-
I played Revengeance at Gamescom and it was great. Far from mediocre. Definitely really excited about it, even though I'm iffy that they changed it to take place after 4.
I'm more excited about this, though. It's a real MGS. As they made it open-world, I assume they cut the diferent acts, which is good.. I just hope this is as good as 3 in every way. 3 is amazing to me. It did everything so perfectly. Aside from gameplay, I hope this has as much and as good codec/radio calls as 3.
-
They explained it as Liquid being dumb and wrong
This made me laugh way harder than it should have. But I've never seen Liquid summed up better in a sentence.

"I have an IQ of like 200, and yet I believe it is possible to both be clones and be exactly opposite. I also believe that having recessive genes makes me inferior, somehow. I probably should have paid more attention in Genetics 101 instead of doodling an Outer Heaven of me motorboating Sniper Wolf 24/7."

In last week's Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes footage, there was apparently some concern amongst fans about Snake's age. Hideo Kojima responded to the concerns via Twitter today.
This is the controversial scene:
Wrote Kojima, there have been many Tweets stating that with the white hair, Snake appears to be really old in this sequence.
It turns that that this is just an illusion. As Kojima explained, the hair appears white because of the back lighting effect.

Like I thought.. So, yeah, it seems like it really does take place soon after Peacer Walker.
No go and buy the HD collection to play through it.
Here's a pic of him normally I found on Neogaf:

And a newish pic from Kojima:

I guess that clears that up, not a huge deal but it gives us a better understanding of the time period since most were assuming it was in the 80's or something because he looked aged.

And on a side note apparently some random love of metal gear from fairy tails hiro mashima has surfaced–-
One last thing is the song from the trailer has been uploaded, so "heres to you" Ground zeroes version(I had no idea this theme was composed by Ennio Morricone)

I can't really consider it true open-world then. Open world is having this huge area that you can freely travel around without loading times. If they are truly the kind of loading times like I'm thinking, then he might as well have called MGS4 open-world too.

That's a little bit worrying but it really depends. I mean Skyrim has loading screens too but they're incredibly fast and only occur if you walk into buildings/dungeons.
So it depends on how often these loading screens occur and where they occur.
-
I don't really care about being open world or not as long it feels like a Mgs game (atmosphere, story, its themes).
Speaking of loading times, I sure hope that they dissapear during excting scenes cause it was a problem in 3 and 4.
-
Heres a video from gametrailers that breaks down the trailer, and gives some insight on certain things we may not have noticed and what we can learn from it.
-
Good video though I pretty much noticed almost all these elements by myself.
Despite sinking lower into the "darkness", Big Boss somehow becomes more likeable, interesting, complex and legendary with each games.

SkepticSkeptics are Metal Gear fans who are the most picky about Metal Gear titles. They are generally the most critical of Metal Gear titles and willing to point out flaws. Skeptics tend to agree with classic fans on the importance of story narrative and modern fans on expanding gameplay. Skeptics are often accused of not being "true fans" of the series because of their exceptive reactions to existing and upcoming Metal Gear titles.
I wouldn't say I'm the most critical. Unlike most people I enjoyed Twin Snakes and it's new additions..

You have a point. The skeptics tend to despise Twins Snakes. I dislike it for its cutscenes, not using some of the classic tracks of the original and the voice acting that was inferior ( most essential points). However, I did like the idea of implementing of seeing a Snake that looks a like the one in MGS2, I liked the graphics and atmosphere that was remade well.

Agreed, ive always liked him much more than solid snake and seeing his slow decent into madness excellent. I could play a dozen more games with him as the star to be honest, id like him to replace solid snake in smash bros 4 too if he does end up in that game.

Same here.

Subsistence is probably my favorite game in the series, and one of my favorite games in general.

See, this is something I disagree with. The acting is better for the most part, the translation is closer to the original and they got rid of Mei Ling's and Naomi's accents (Mei Ling's was especially weird).
-
I loved Twin Snakes. I only disliked the over-the-top scenes (jumping off a missile??), but other than that, I didn't find anything terrible about it. Except sometimes I'd accidentally shoot the machine gun, because I kept forgetting that you have to press A and Y to aim without shooting. I'd forget to hold Y and end up shooting like a wild banshee and end up in Alert Status.

I agree with both of you, i tend to see most MGS fans bitching about the twin snakes but its actually pretty good IMO. Like marcello said i think the voice acting was better, snake sounded much more in line with how he sounds now, the accents were gone, and the new actors they brought in did a better job IMO. Sure the over the top cutscenes arent that great but they are hardly that big of a deal, they definitely work better for the grey fox action scenes.

General replies
I have checked the VA of the remake and original. It is undeniable that they put a lot more emotion and energy cause in the twin snakes you feel that they are just reading their lines and they seem so bored. I kinda like the accents, it was really a way to remember them (I thought they sounded sexy as well), I don't think it is racist because I think its normal to see and meet many people who speak english with weird accents. I would say that the team in charge of the Star Fox 64 remake cause they did not add anything silly and they are so respectful to the point of keeping the thruster red like in the original. Moreover, not putting "enclosure" during SNiper Wolf's death is untolerable.
Even tough, I love Big Boss, Solid Snake is still my favourite because he actually feels more tortured and heroic (his ptsd, the guilt of "killing" his best friend and father, going from a killer to a man, his mentor figure that helped his friends, his speech on life, fighting despite his old age and rejecting a life of perpetual war to find something better in life).
If there is one moment that defines Big Boss, its this speech.
If there is one that defines Snake. Its that moment
Big Boss speech is more like epicness, goosebumps but sorrow.
Snake's life speech is sad, peaceful and heartwarming about the beauty of a normal life. -
That's another thing I forgot to mention, Naomi's voice in Twin Snakes bothered me. It wasn't as… energized as it was in the original.

Snake's life speech is sad, peaceful and heartwarming about the beauty of a normal life. It's been a while since I played Peace Walker, but when did Big Boss say this speech? I don't remember it at all. O.O I feel like I missed a big chunk of the game, because I felt like there was more to complete for the story after destroying Peace Walker.

Snake's life speech is sad, peaceful and heartwarming about the beauty of a normal life.Damn if those werent excellent moments for the both of them i dont know what is, that speech and ending made peacewalker for me. I do get where your coming from though about the TS voice overs, i guess its just up to interpretation and for the time the original was done pretty damn well. And solid snake is quite tragic like youve said, unlike big boss he never had a chance even from the outset of his birth, he was born into what he was to become. But for me I just feel BB is much easier to relate to, along with his plight and downfall and the fact he doesnt want to be a victim of the times like he felt the boss was.
@Mr.:

You might want to revisit it bro, theres much more than after peacewalker is taken out, its worth going back to.

I probably should, I just got as far as finishing the Zadornov missions, but there didn't seem to be anything else popping up… I stopped after attempting some tank missions. Some of those can be brutal.

Damn ! That means I have sorta spoiled you the ending. You have to insist with Zadornov hide and seek stuff (its very long and painful) to get to the interesting part.
I think there are still plenty of briefings and diaries that you can unlock. If you are too lazy, go watch it on youtube.

Nah it's all good, I made it like 20 seconds into the video until I realized that I probably never got to this part in the game. Guess I have more reason to play Peace Walker again!

A few more things about the game from TGS
–-
At TGS this year, Hideo Kojima revealed some interesting tidbits about the upcoming Metal Gear game. Here's a list:1. Loading is always done in the background, so it’s basically an open world where loading screens do not exist.
2. The exception to this is when you travel by helicopter—there a loading screen will be inserted.
3. There will be many Grand Theft Auto-style open worlds, and these are connected by helicopter.
4. The video that has been released is of the prologue stage, so it’s a small open world. There are bigger ones.
5. The game has a concept of time, so it varies from morning to afternoon, and then to night in real time. [This could mean "game time," I'm not sure.]
6. Before using the FOX Engine on other titles going forward, they want to create the standard with open worlds.
Article Source: http://gematsu.com/2012/09/metal-gear-solid-ground-zeroes-has-many-open-worlds -
Ah, so loading screen only when fast traveling, that's normal for open-world games. All well then.
-
feature interview with tangential relation to metal gear ground zero.
I really respect Kojimas vision although I don't always enjoy all aspects of it.
I still love the presentation he did on the gdc way back (for the interested talking about this one http://gamevideos.1up.com/video/id/24173). -
http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/kojima-s-la-studio-to-develop-new-metal-gear-online/0103746?
Might not be related to this game but it's as good a place as any to post it. I'm fucking pumped. I LOVED MGO. There was room for improvement but it was still awesome.
-
Revealed at the VGAs. Currently the only video of the trailer I can find is on Kotaku: http://kotaku.com/5966779/whatever-it-is-the-phantom-pain-looks-very-intense
If this ISN'T a new Metal Gear title that is merely trolling us then it's outright plagiarism.
-
Was just going to create this thread.
Moby Game Studios = MGS
Person who apparently runs the studio's name is "Joakim", which is an anagram of Kojima.Did it show any platforms for the game, because I'm thinking it's next gen. Looks fantastic. I'm pretty excited.
-
From what i guessed, it is actually Kojima being a troll (the director is actually Kojima as an anagram)…BELIEVE IT!
(PS: Beaten by a milisecond)
-
Kojima really loves to screw with the fans, doesn't he?
-
I really hope this is the game that leads into the first Metal Gear, with Big Boss founding Outer Heaven and stuff.
God knows how much more of a mess the plot of this series can become if they decide to make more games starring Big Boss after this.
-
There's no need to go any further really. Question is just when will Konami/Kojima decide to give up the ghost.
-
-
In before Kojima's "I fully intended the fans to figure it out instantly!"
He probably did tho.
-
Apparently the trailer fits pretty well with this song. Start it right as the doctor stops talking. I think it works rather well too. The trailer needs to be on Youtube so we can use that Youtube doubler site.
-
I know I said we don't need anymore proof, but…
The guy on the right is Kyle Cooper, who worked on the title sequences to various MGS games. Kojima, you fucking bastard, you're enjoying this.
-
I'm going to laugh if this has nothing to do with MGS and Joakim Mogren is sitting in his office wondering what the hell he did wrong and why everyone thinks this is a MGS game.
-
-
Yeah, that's being speculated too as the series has never used Roman numerals before. But c'mon, there's no way that's Vita.
