Pretty sure he meant the pair of legs he asked to join after the time skip.
which happened to belong to Kinemon in the long run.
Strawhat Crew Theories and Prediction Thread

My point is, as long as Oda keeps writing Luffy as wanting more crewmates, there's no reason to think he won't get them.
But honestly, as long as Jinbe still has dibs on that "The Ninth" title, I can't see anyone else being a candidate before he re-enters the picture.
-

which happened to belong to Kinemon in the long run.Luffy liked the pair of legs because they were a freaky pair of legs. And Luffy likes freaky.
Remember the Cerberus from Thriller Bark?

Maybe, but its possible that said character can get introduced before Jinbe joins, but doesn't actually join (or even hint at joining) until later on. Think like how Robin was introduced before Chopper was (but maybe with a bigger earlier role).

Actually, Chopper and Robin are the only SHs who don't have a numbered chapter. Maybe this is the reason why?

That scene in the anime is HILARIOUS, I was crying. And as for Luffy liking freaky yeah I won't be surprised if we have another weird non-human crewmember join IF there are going to be any more crewmembers.
-

And he liked Chopper for being a freaky monster. So? It's also obvious not everyone or everything he asks to join will.
Getting technical here, but for a long time it's been foreshadowed that Luffy will probably get a minimum of 10 members, as he said himself that would be a good number to have. The number naming convention started with the chapter Zoro joined titled "The First Person", but the theme went under the radar at first since it didn't come up again until Sanji joined in "The Fourth Person". And Nami and Usopp eventually got recognized as "The Second" and "The Third", respectively. Luffy clearly isn't included in that order since Zoro was "The First", so since Brook was "The Eighth", logic deduces that there are at least two more coming. If Jinbe is going to be "The Ninth", that leaves one more, most likely not-yet-introduced, person as "The Tenth".

This needs to be a reference point for every remaining crew related discussion in the future, people still don't get that Luffy doesn't include himself and argue that Jinbe is the 10th. I've read a bunch of arguments about this, here and on other forums.

I honestly think that the 10th will be somebody already introduced before the timeskip.
Just a hunch, though.

Maybe. I think it has more to do with Vivi and Carue's ambiguous crew status, but that could be why too.
-

Why would that be necessary? For one thing, Brook was alluded to when they entered the Grand Line, and Jinbe (should he join) was mentioned before Arlong Park. Any earlier than that and we'll be talking about people as notable as Makino and Woop-Slap.
For another, why would it be so bad to have someone from the New World? Luffy through Usopp are from the East Blue, Sanji's originally from the North, Franky from the South, Robin and Brook from the West, and Chopper from the Grand Line's first half. Jinbe would be from the exact middle point of the GL, so having one more member from the second half would be fitting.

Pretty sure he was joking.
If Oda did say that thing, about a former antagonist/prisoner joining, let's look at who he may have meant.
- Buggy: Possible, but given Buggy's attitude, it's a bit unlikely.
- Mr. 3: Possible, even more likely than Buggy joining, after he saved Ace and got saved from the scrappy heap.
- Bon Kurei: I would love this. He definitely deserves this more than anyone else, but he shares a VA with Franky.
- Crocodile: Pretty well impossible. Nobody would be able to overlook his actions in the BW saga.
- Das Bones: Less impossible than Crocodile, but still pretty impossible. He's also very boring.
Well I don't know how voice acting works in Japan but on Family Guy, one guys does like three characters.
-
Are we back to this?
It was already cleared long time ago that it wasn't meant like this but that a former major villian would team with Luffy… And we had Croc and Co doing it during the war

Clears up my confusion on how many more members will join if we are staying with the 10 member crew Luffy brought up. I doubt Luffy would go above that number. I think Jinbe can't join until a few things happen: 1) Luffy's bounty has to pass his 2) Luffy's ability has to pass his (I'd guess they are equal atm w/ an edge to Jinbe) 3) Zoro and Sanji have to improve to Jinbe's level 4) I think like Nami got rid of Arlong's tattoo, Jinbe needs to have his Sun become something related to the SH's as it's proof of him as a Sun pirate
I think all but #1 can happen after PH. I think we've got 1 or 2 more arcs after PH before Jinbe joins if he does.
**If you count Vivi & Carue as reserves then there are already 10 members :P. I'm including Carue as Stronger is also included as a member of the Blackbeard pirates apart from Doc Q

Not gonna happen, and shouldn't….He has absolutely no reason to erase his past with the Sun Pirates, Tiger was NOTHING like Arlong, Jinbe has/had the utmost respect for him..
Also, Vivi and Carue aren't reserves, they're allies.

Well it shows allegiance to a group other than the Straw Hat Pirates,Nami's tattoo was altered to represent her step mother and father.

Not erase, but adding a SH thing to the middle of it. It'd be like if Ace had become a SH with a big ass WB tattoo. Tattoos in One Piece seem to represent allegiance, I just see the Sun as saying "member of the Sun Pirates". Maybe I'm over thinking it, but it is one of those things that kinda bothers me about Jinbe joining. I had hoped when Akainu had blasted him & Luffy then his tattoo would be destroyed (the fact he has no scar at all but Luffy who was hit after him has one, also Luffy was pierced form behind but has a massive frontal scar, his back better have a massive one as well)
-

I don't see why that matters, he was once a member of the Sun Pirates, and now is a Straw Hat..Did Arlong cover his Tattoo when he made the Arlong Pirates? No, he got another Tattoo..

It could just be me, but I think it's over thinking it a bit. Jinbe shoulnd't have to erase his past of being part of Tiger's crew just to join the Straw Hats.
Ace wouldn't have erased over covered his White Beard tattoo if he survived and White Beard still died. He'd get another tattoo of whatever crew he joined or started…

Then Nami just could of got another tattoo but she didn't, she edited her old one.

I'm sorry, your argument is just stupid. If you're going to compare Nami's situation with Arlong to Jinbe and the Sun Pirates (Tiger) I'm not even going to bother continuing this conversation. The reasons she covered that tattoo are obvious, and in no way related to Jinbe's situation.
Nami was taken as a child after watching her Mother get shot in the face by Arlong, forced to be a slave to them/him creating maps with a threat of if she left the town would be killed for years….That in NO WAY is comparable or related to the argument about Jinbe's tattoo (brand mark).
Also, what Shift says below.
-
It's also not a tattoo, it's a brand. If he wanted to alter it, he'd have to make an even bigger design to go over it, or one to go on the side of it or on another part of his body. Anyway, Nami hated that tattoo and the years of slavery it represented. Jinbe's sun brand is like the anti-slavery mark; he doesn't regret having it and no one else bears any grudge against it, so it's fine how it is.

Regardless its a symbol of allegiance to another group, which he is still the captain of. This is something I've noticed about people who bring up Jinbe and why he would be good crew member, they mention that has the unique persoanlity trait of being honorable,as to say that "honor" isn't a huge part of any other one member on the crew. This is false, why? Zoro. I shouldn't have to explain further. Also the matter of the symbol getting bigger or being altered under the terms of real life means doesn't apply here.
-

Just because he'll join Luffy's crew doesn't mean he'll cast aside his allegiance to Tiger's; if anything, he may join in order to achieve the ideal that Tiger (and Otohime) wanted. You said yourself that Nami changed her tattoo in tribute to Belle-Mere and Genzo, but they're not Straw Hats either, are they?
As for the physics involved, it does kinda matter that they chose a symbol that would cover over the original. They couldn't change the center or the hoof mark, so they changed the outside to make the claws into sun rays. That's why you couldn't expect to see a Jolly Roger's eye holes or something in the center, especially when in the manga the symbol is inked black. Luffy doesn't require anyone to modify their bodies for him, so why are we even having this discussion?
-

Your completely ignoring the fact that it DOESN'T MATTER. Allegiance to a former crew or not, it's more than that to him, and not Luffy or anyone else would care. You seem to forget why exactly the brand (symbol) was made for the crew..

Nami's tattoo doesn't represent a pirate crew. A shark tattoo was turned into a orange and windmill. Luffy doesn't ask those to modify their for him but they have done on their own accord. Also, we don't know if Jinbe will join the crew because remember people were plum sure it would happen when Jinbe was on that volume cover with the straw hats. But we can agree to disagree.

But its a symbol of the crew, correct?
….You're still ignoring the fact that it doesn't matter what kind of symbol it is.
It's not going anywhere, and it shouldn't have to.
Like I said in a previous post, do you think Ace would cover his tattoo if he survived the war and joined/started his own/another crew? No, he woulnd't, because it's more than just an allegiance to a pirate crew to him or the rest of the White Beard Pirates..Do you think Marco and everyone else covered their tattoo? They're obviously part of a different crew now.
Arlong didn't cover his tattoo when he left the Sun Pirates, neither did Hachi, or the rest of them..Why? Because it's there to honour Tiger.

…....Like I said in the previous post we can agree to disagree, because Jinbe is not a member, and may not be one period, it doesn't have to go anywhere because he may not be, at least not with Straw-hats.
-
I'd like it more if he showed up with a giant tattoo of the Strawhat Jolly Roger on his back, to reinforce his yakuza traits. No reason to forget/deny who he was.
-
So it seems the new straw Jinbe haters are grasping at is that he has a sun tattoo … that's just absurd.
I honestly think that the 10th will be somebody already introduced before the timeskip.
Just a hunch, though.
I don't see the problem with members coming after the timeskip. It's not like there won't be enough time left to develop those characters, considering how much of the story is left.
That said, your comment did remind me of Gin and how much I hope he reappears. Not because I think he could be nakama but because it was implied he would come back and he had a great relationship with Luffy and Sanji.
-
I'm not hating on it but it seems like if Jinbe had a WB tattoo then people would be more upset at him possibly joining. I KNOW Luffy obviously doesn't care, but it would seem that tattoos indicate allegiance. Hopefully Big Mom will spit acid onto it and have it come off. BTW if Jinbe joins and his tattoo is or has been destroyed I want $100 from everyone :P
I just don't think Jinbe is the best person to join compared to others. I hated Bon Kurei in the Alabasta arc but he was great in ID, I'd MUCH rather him have joined. Mr. 3 would be a cool one to join also but I know people will hate. I like Hachi better than Jinbe. I just think Jinbe is too overpowered and too recognized outside of he SHs to be a new member. Before any idiot brings up Robin she was known as a the demon of Ohara not as an associate of Crocodile or the WG or any other major group.
I'd like it more if he showed up with a giant tattoo of the Strawhat Jolly Roger on his back, to reinforce his yakuza traits. No reason to forget/deny who he was.
I think that would be better than just the Sun symbol
–---------------------------
I'm also glad Superbear sees it my way. In case people haven't forgot not just tattoos/brands but symbols flags/jolly rogers mean a lot to different people. I think the importance of symbols in One Piece makes the Sun immediately conjure up the idea of Jinbe as former-Sun Pirate instead of SH. Just my opinion and none of this matters until (if) Jinbe is an official member
-
Yes, symbols are important … and the Sun more than anything represents Tiger and the efforts against slavery. That just further reinforces why it's a stupid idea to want Jinbe to lose that symbol.
Especially when, and if, the manga gets to the point at which they find Koala. She has that sun on her back too.
I'm surprised no one has suggested they turn the sun into a lion so that it represents Sunny.

I'm glad there's more than one person here that see's this argument stupid (and completely nonsensical at that).. This is more than just a symbol of allegiance, to more than one person even..It just doesn't apply to this situation at all..
I'm surprised no one has suggested they turn the sun into a lion so that it represents Sunny.
This would be the ONLY acceptable replacement, if the situation were different.

Don't get me wrong here, if this brand mark didn't mean as much as it does, I woulnd't even be arguing, well I would, just in a different manner..It just represents more than just allegiance to another pirate crew; being, anti-slavery, and honour/in memory of Tiger and his dream..
Also, former is the key word, no one is going to be confused when they continuously see Jinbe with the Strawhats, especially when his bounty poster gets sent out along with theirs..He'll just be known as "A former member of the Sun Pirates, Shichibukai, who is now a Strawhat"..It's a little confusing, but not really.

My theory: Zoro has more blood than Luffy. Zoro can be cut up by Mr. 1 and ripped apart by Kuma's bubble containing Luffy's pain. Luffy stretches a wound from Hody and needs a blood transfusion, Zoro has yet to have a blood transfusion but has lost much more blood. Then again bigger people generally have more blood than smaller people.
-
I think behind the scenes many of the crew members have had blood transfusions. Chopper giving the crew check ups is just something we rarely see.

And I'm glad someone else here doesn't have fanboy goggles strapped on and sees that there is a bit of a problem with the sun symbol. Yes it stands for anti-slavery BUT it is also the symbol of another active crew. Look at it this way, say someone works at a Pepsi factory and they used to work for a Coke factory , and both of these companies have a uniform for their workers to wear. Now the guy who used to work for the Coke company goes to work at the Pepsi factory in the Coke factory's uniform, when he is questioned about it he tells his co-workers and boss that he had many fond memories working at the Coke factory and he met his wife there and so on. Does anybody here think this man would keep his job? No.
! But I'm sure someone will come along and call this example silly because they do not understand how this applies to Jinbe.

Zoro has AB blood (universal recipient), so blood transfusions for him aren't trouble at all.

This topic just irks me because of it's nonsensical logic, and most of all your terrible examples of why it's an issue. So, I'm gonna bow out here and call it a day. You were right before, it's a matter of opinion, so let's agree to disagree.

Hahahaha ,wow Jinbe needs to remove the Sun mark brand? Jinbe doubters don't realize just how lame their arguments against him sound.
Franky should remove his Stars too I guess.

Hahahaha ,wow Jinbe needs to remove the Sun mark brand? Jinbe doubters don't realize just how lame their arguments against him sound.

Right, because the stars represent a rival pirate group. Jinbe fanboyism, its like any argument against him, no matter how sensible or insensible it may be is foolish and any argument for him no matter how sensible or insensible it may be is creditable. Its like back in Fishman Island where everyone was sure he was going to join and he didn't. After he failed to join people make excuse upon excuse why the pattern was broken. People say that we need more straight man in the crew but laugh when someone says we should have more girls in the crew, which both ideas are under the same premiss of adding more of what the crew doesn't have. Now and Kinemon for that matter have personality traits that are already prevalent traits in other characters on the crew. Honor(Jinbe) is most prevalent Zoro and perversion under the influence of isolation(Kinemon) is most prevalent in Brook.
-
@Superbear:
Right, because the stars represent a rival pirate group. Jinbe fanboyism.
Hahahahahahahahahaha.
Right because the Franky Family was never an enemy to the SH at all right? riiiiiiiiight. Sun Pirates were never rivals to the SH,they weren't even active again until two years ago and even now their activity is suspect ,considering Jinbe is willing to leave them.
For your information it's Jinbe supporter not fanboy. Vote Jinbe. Here's the difference ,where a Jinbe fanboy sits around and pans over everything Jinbe ,I on the other hand are here for people like you who seem to have some undeserved HATE of Jinbe's character so to justify this delusional hate you carry ,you find any weak argument to justify YOUR dislike of the blue guy. Just one problem though…Oda writes One Piece, not you bubba.
Whether he dies
Removes the Brand [[Ha!]]
Or joins the crew. You have no control over it. Jinbe hater.
-
I agree that Jinbe would need to remove his Sun Pirates tattoo before he can officially join the Strawhats. Nami changed her Arlong Tattoo to a pinwheel with tangerines to symbolize her breaking free of his grasp, so why shouldn't Jinbe change his to let go of the past? He's only the leader of the Sun Pirates in name anymore, anyway, since they've all broken up into sub groups. Mentioning Franky's stars is irrelevant and stupid, as the Franky Family was his family, and though they were in direct conflict with the Strawhats, they made amends and became allies. Different situation.
Jinbe's dream is Tiger Fisher and Otohime's dream. That's why his flashback was centered around them, and not him directly. In a way, it's the same as Chopper's dream being carried down as the dream from his mentor, Hiruluk, and Zoro carrying on the dream of Kuina. Robin, even, in a way, is carrying on the dream of her parents, as well. So Jinbe wouldn't be the first to carry on another's dreams/will.

It is idiot to compare a tattoo forced on Nami that she hated, to a mark that Jinbe branded himself with along with the rest of his crew to show they all stood together against slavery, saying they are all Fishmen, slave or not and that they wouldn't let their people bare the mark of slavery.
Jinbe changing the mark would be stupid. It doesn't represent the Sun Pirates mainly, it represents a stance against slavery and Tiger's ideals.

Weather he dies
Removes the Brand [[Ha!]]
Or joins the crew. You have no control over it. Jinbe hater.
I should have said rival pirate group I'm not hating on Jinbe, he's just not a very interesting character, especially not to be a main character. I know who writes the comic, I don't who bubba is. But you can't see patterns because you were on board with that whole Kinemon being a Zoan with no evidence to back it up.

@Fire Fist:
Go re read Fishman Island again buddy, the Sun Pirates grew up together in the orphanage that became the Fishman District. They are brothers too ,maybe even more so than Franky's since he met his "family" when he was a grown ass man. The Sun's grew up together ,aside from Aladdin.
Nami changed her tattoo because of all the bad memories and experiences that come with it. The Sun brand stands for something more, which is what you guys don't seem to get.
"Path towards the Sun" and all that Jazz

It is idiot to compare a tattoo forced on Nami that she hated, to a mark that Jinbe branded himself with along with the rest of his crew to show they all stood together against slavery, saying they are all Fishmen, slave or not and that they wouldn't let their people bare the mark of slavery.
Jinbe changing the mark would be stupid. It doesn't represent the Sun Pirates mainly, it represents a stance against slavery and Tiger's ideals.
The mark being changed from its original mark (the Heavenly Dragon Hoof) in the first place was what made it a symbol of defiance. It doesn't matter what it gets changed to. In fact, when we saw Arlong and members of his crew oppressing humans like they were his personal slaves and still wearing the Mark of the Sun Pirates, it lost meaning as a symbol of defiance and became one of hatred and bitterness. If Jinbe truly wants to let go of his past, he'll change it yet again.
Not to mention Macro and his goons wearing the mark and selling humans as slaves. That's the anti-thesis of what the mark was supposed to represent. It's lost ALL meaning as of present time.

LOL you're never gonna let this go are you?
Its early in Kinemon's introduction tbh none of us knew what he could or couldn't do, to suspect and theorize is not a crime ,but I do admit that I was wrong about my assumption.
But the Jinbe thing is totally different. Oda himself wants him on the crew. This is nothing I myself came up with ,I'm not some Perona hopeful I'm going by what I read and the only reason he postponed it is because of the obvious, Bounties.
Fact of the matter is Jinbe is unique ,just not what YOU consider as unique. Luffy considers him unique enough to join the crew.
Vivi never was asked to join the crew ,Luffy just sort of expected her to come along but she chose Alabasta instead.
Bon chan who everyone adores ,was never really asked either.
Jinbe was ,and not only that postponed his joining.
That is more unique then any recruitment we've seen so far.BTW I used Bon and Vivi as an example because you love to compare Jinbe's situation to theirs even though it's different.

That is more unique then any recruitment we've seen so far.Not really. Brook did the same thing. He accepted the offer, but he flat out told Luffy he couldn't join because of the situation regarding Moria and his shadow (though he didn't directly mention the reason at the time).
