It seems logical, as others have said, that naruto is a costly show considering its popularity in the states. Toonami mentioned in the past that they don't have a budget for shows like One Piece. Hence, if they managed to buy Naruto, they probably don't have the money to get OP anytime soon. I'd love to be proven wrong by toonami, however.

It's fairly easy for them to get a show like Naruto since the first anime is already finished and dubbed.
One Piece, on the other hand, is still on-going. -
Are you sure about that? I don't think they would've gotten Naruto instead of Shippuden if it wasn't for Disney.
-

I'm pretty sure the contract with Disney is over.
Viz probably just wants to have the premieres of Shippuden be on their Neon Alley service first, since that's how they are promoting it on there.
-

That's probably the case, but I'm guessing that they're trying to test the waters with the first anime, at least.
-
This is great news guys. Naruto is the #1 anime on Hulu and is usually on the top 10 for all shows. Naruto will certainly get great ratings. Great ratings = more money, more money equals Toonami expansion time and bigger and better acquisitions, better acquisitions = One Piece
I can feel it guys, we're almost there!!! :D
Also, Janson DeMarco said that Disney still owns Shippuden, so it's a no go for now.
-
They started from episode one or something? Man, it'd be dumb if One Piece did that.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Before anyone yells at me: Dumb, but better than it not being on tv at all.
-
@Galaxy:

If that was the case I don't think Jason would've said that their competition owning Naruto was what prevented them from having shows like it at the start for Toonami Swim.
Edit: Yeah, looks like he reiterated it. I bet they're hoping on the rights expiring by the time they'd need them. I'm sure Disney wouldn't bother trying to renew the broadcast rights to a show they've ignored for so long. Till then it makes sense to snatch up the first series and just start from scratch.
-
What's the schedule for that show? One episode a week? At that rate, they'll never need the next series.
-
i wish they had done a new anime series when oda did the time skip.
-
I'm glad they didn't, but I'd like for them to start One Piece on Toonami in the 200's.
-
i wish they had done a new anime series when oda did the time skip.
That would've been a horrible idea that would not have helped OP get a TV deal here faster in any way if that's what you were thinking.
-
I'm glad they didn't, but I'd like for them to start One Piece on Toonami in the 200's.
Why would they do that?
It alienates the new fanbase.
If they're going to start later at all, it would have to be where it left off years ago.
-
I think that's horrible too because it's in the middle of an arc…
-
Ok I'm just gonna come out and say not starting "One Piece" at the beginning if it got on Toonami is a stupid, stupid idea. Why would anyone think that's a good idea?
Also I believe that if weren't for Disney XD Toonami would've snatched up "Naruto Shippuden" instead. And to Galaxy 9000, VIZ has stated a few times tht Neon Alley premieres does not prevent a broadcast deal.
-
And to Galaxy 9000, VIZ has stated a few times tht Neon Alley premieres does not prevent a broadcast deal.
Ah. I guess I missed that. Guess it is Disney then.
-
So apprently Toonami is going to have a movie night soon… http://toonami.tumblr.com/post/36290752850/toonami-schedule-12-1
Maybe Funimation could get them to air Movie 8 and see how the ratings go? What do you guys think?
-
By all means I would love for them to show Movie 8. God Enel knows I was hoping for that back when they put commercials for the DVD on TV. I'd love to see:
OP Movie 8 (premiere)
Blue Sub 6 (uncut and strung together)
Sailor Moon movies (nostalgic)
Eureka 7 movie (premiere; they have the show)
GW Endless Waltz (also nostalgic XP)
Evangelion Rebuild Movies (premiere; they showed the series before)
YYH Poltergeist Report (premiere)
Tenchi Muyo Movies (premiere)
That just names a few. I'd definitely tune in if they showed any of these either for the nostalgic value or the fact that they'd be premiering on TV. ^^ -
Maybe they could also air Strong World sometime next year.
That would be awesome. -
I think Movie 8 wouldn't be a good idea. Most of the fanbase, including me, dislike that movie. If One Piece fans don't like it, what will those who aren't OP fans think and how will that be for ratings?
-
Meh, people give Movie 8 too much hate. I showed this movie to my anime club (all who did not like OP, but I was able to convince them all to just check it out), and they enjoyed the hell out of it. They all pretty much fell for OP. Yeah, it doesn't do Alabasta "proper" justice, but the fights are done relatively well, the art/animation is bright, crisp, and for the most part, above average, lastly, it's not as tedious to sit through as other OP movies (Movie 1,3, or 5 imo…I enjoy them, but some parts drag~) since it moves nice and quick. Weirdly enough, I found the "farewell" scene to be much more moving in this movie. XD The only place I was ever disappointed in the movie was the lack of Dvorak's score during Gum Gum Storm.
-
Any One Piece movie on tv is a good One Piece movie on tv.
Except movie three. Movie three can go rot in Impel Down for all I care.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Movie 8 serves its purpose. It's a good substitute for the Alabasta arc if you don't have 30 episodes worth of time to blow. Also, the updated animation for such a great arc was fantastic. Sure, they cut smoker and raindinners, which were my favorite parts of the arc, but can you blame them? They just didn't have time. It isn't a bad movie to introduce new fans with.
-
By the way guys, they said they are taking requests for movies and new series. So if you want anything One Piece related, go to toonami.tumblr.com, click ask, and tell them!
I can't guarantee that it will happen, but if there's enough demand, I think we can do this guys!

Everyone do this multiple times.
Man, I was hoping the rightstuf status would at least change to 'reserved' today.

Should I make multiple accounts and spam them? :ninja:

I just asked. :) -

Couldn't hurt, hahah. Though hopefully it wouldn't be necessary. I hope the OPP put this out in a big way.

Im noticing alot of Naruto pictures being posted, should we post One Piece movie 8 pictures?

They did not say new series, but movies.
-
They could most certainly air One Piece beginning with the Davy Back Fight arc. A 1/2 hour special before the start could show the highlights of the series up to that point (think that first episode of Dragonball Z). And include a li'l plug for the Collections, Hulu, and Funimation.com as a means to watch the first 200-ish episodes during the break if people want to see all of it all over again (or for the first time).
Cartoon Network already had the first 160-ish episodes of One Piece on their network, to do it all over again from the beginning for the sake of the different voice actors would be a major waste of time. Sorry, if we want to see OP gain any sort of footing on TV, and more importantly, keep the dubbing of seasons going, starting from Episode 207 is a good enough jumping-on point.
-
@LUFFY#1:
They did not say new series, but movies.
They've said in the past on the Tumblr they do listen to suggestions people have for series to add in the future though and encourage people to also send those in.
-
@LUFFY#1:

It couldn't though right. If there was a place to let the Toonami you want One Piece on air, the tumblr is the place to do it.
@Zephray and GrizzlayLeslay I know you guys want to see Water 7 and beyond on Toonami just as much me or the next guy, but here's the thing. Not everyone has seen Funimation One Piece from the beginning, or even know that Funimation now has the license to the show. In fact some people still think that 4kids owns One Piece.
Now before you say that these people are stupid let's just take a look at the facts:
- Besides that one promo for movie 8, no Funimation One Piece Ads have aired on TV
- There were no Toonami promos made to delineate the 4kids dub from the new dub (something Sailor Moon and DBZ had)
- So few episodes of Funimation One Piece aired on US TV so long ago (almost 5 years now) that people who don't follow anime quite as closely as we do have forgotten about it (and these are more likely the average Nielsen viewers we're talking about here, which sadly are the only ones who count here)
So I can't blame these people for not knowing about Funimation One Piece since it was here and then was gone in a flash of light instantly, and went off the mainstream audience's radar.
That's to many good reasons as to why One Piece can't start from where they left off in Skypiea or at Davy Back. If it's going to come back, it needs to be from episode 1, no questions asked. Would it take forever to catch up? Yes. Is it better than nothing at this point? Yes. The best thing Toonami can do is license the show sooner rather than later.
-
It might even be better to start at water 7 / aokiji than the Davy back fight arc.
It certainly makes sense financially to start at episode one, but in the perfect world, we'd be seeing tv premieres. And from what I gather, not all anime fans desire to start at episode 1. Water 7 is a great arc to pull in new viewers.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Man, I still don't understand why they don't air new episodes on FUNimation elite.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
The only serious perk I see from one piece getting popular is more merchandise.
-
The best way for Toonami to air One Piece is by showing two back-to-back episodes a week.
Especially since the first couple of arcs aren't really that good. -
I love the Buggy arc. And the other beg arcs are classic.
If Toonami isn't giving Naruto an hour block, One Piece certainly won't get one.
Can you imagine a one hour per week block of Water 7 and beyond? If only…

Just kidding. (But not really):ninja:

Does anyone know how to go about putting these episodes on my iPhone? I don't think they're sold in iTunes. I want the last three episodes of the last set on my phone. (And hopefully the entire next set too)

How does that make sense? An even better arc to start at is the first one since, you know, it actually introduces new viewers to the actual premise and main characters. The fans that rather not start at episode one are fans that have parobably already seen the first episodes.
The only serious perk I see from one piece getting popular is more merchandise.
There's also more people buying the DVDs.
-
To your first assault: someone suggested starting in the Davy back fight arc. I suggested that water 7 would be a better arc than that to start in. I wasn't speaking in what is best for the series in the states, but for what I'd more like to see on TV- premieres. Certainly, episode one is the best thing for the states, which I did mention before, I think.
To your second: what things do you gain from One Piece being popular? I don't gain from the DVDs selling better (though the effects of such would be good for me, such as merchandise). I was only considering the reason anyone wants One piece to be popular. Which seems to be.. 1)to be able to talk about it with friends 2) to get the good merchandise and video games 3) to see it on TV. Maybe even premieres.
Unless it's a premiere, two of those don't really benefit me. I already have people to talk to one piece about.
Everyone just assumes its a great thing that One Piece becomes popular. Why is it important that something becomes popular? I don't really get this mentality.
You seem to pick a fight with most of my posts, fireman. It sounds like you're being spiteful from our original debate.
Few things I forgot to mention:
As long as One Piece remains popular enough to warrant the continuation of the dubbing and manga translations, I'll be fine.Certainly, I'd rather One Piece be popular than not popular.
Another perk to it being popular: the licensing of movies and specials.
-

Just to point out…DVDs selling better means even more incentive for Funimation to not only keep on acquiring new episodes but perhaps attempt at getting more of the movies (and specials) which could, in turn, premiere on TV. In regards to merchandise, I just stick to conventions. If there is one thing I would really like to see get officially brought over to the states, even if it's only in the name of popularity, it's OP:UC SP for the 3DS. I just want that game...and I don't even have a 3DS yet. XD
If OP does get on TV, just let them start at the beginning. Tbh, if I saw the Water 7 English dub episodes on TV, I'd feel a little less inclined to pick up the sets 'cause there'd be no more incentive of seeing new dubbed episodes for the first time on DVD. I may not be in the mood to put in my old DVDs to watch old episodes, but I'd be willing to catch them if they're on TV. ^^
-
It's been years and still the only set I have is Season 2 First Voyage (the damn Apis filler). I blame a serious lack of funds. :(

Aw. I updated my post before you posted this. :[ I had forgotten the movies.
As for the 3DS game, I live in the states, yet I bought a Euro 3DS and both Unlimited games. I'm actually going to get rid of my european 3DS in early january because I'm going to have my girlfriend pick me up a euro 3ds XL while she's in Europe for the new year. I had to import the thing from Europe, but I could sell it to you via ebay without the ridiculous importing costs. You'd have to get the One Piece games from europe, though. PM me if you're interested.
I hadn't really considered how a tv deal would hurt the dvd sales. But I suppose the money funi would get from it being on tv might outweigh the harm to dvd sales anyways. I don't really know enough to say.

Why wouldn't you get that mentality? It sounds like you just don't care whether something you like becomes popular or not, which there's nothing wrong with. Is it because it wouldn't directly affect you?
Basically, it's just nice to see something you really enjoy become successful. I love "One Piece" so much that I'd love more people to enjoy it as well. You know, spread the love in a sense. That's what I think it comes down to.
You seem to pick a fight with most of my posts, fireman. It sounds like you're being spiteful from our original debate.
I'm not being spiteful, I just misunderstood a comment you made and mixed it in with other comments I disagree with. That's just how things come across on message boards. People communicate visually; things can easily be misunderstood when it's only in writing.

Oh no, I'm not saying a TV deal would hurt the DVD sales at all. But for me, usually once I see a show (either on TV or online in it's entirety) I usually postpone buying it for a long time. OP has been a special case. Despite having seen every episode thus far, I haven't seen the currently-released-on-DVD-episodes in years...so they're almost brand new to me. XD
-
Maybe not for you, but I do think the tv deal would hurt sales a bit. …if it was a premiere deal, of course.

My solution to this:
BUY BOTH! :DEDIT: I am going to be very disappointed if the set doesn't ship next week. I really hope it does…
-
Haha, okay, fine.
Start it from episode 1. One episode a week. Because that's all you'll get from Toonami/AS.
Even though folks can readily access the episodes from Hulu, starting from 1 is genius.
Even though folks can readily access the episodes from Funimation.com, starting from 1 is genius.
Even though Cartoon Network has already aired One Piece until midway through Skypiea, starting from 1 is genius.
Because hey-whatever, this is a pants-tighteningly amazing genius idea. A grand opus of a plan that will surely bring OP to years of glory and prosperity in the U.S.I look forward to celebrating 10 years of Funimation owning One Piece, because even if Toonami started airing it TONIGHT it'd take until 2017 to reach Water Seven. 10 entire years to get 100 episodes farther than 4kids managed to do in 4 years. Good job.
-
Haha. Yeah, financially it might be the right call, but I hate the idea too.
Not to mention that it's already airing from the beginning on Neon Alley.
-

Again, I'm not sure. I guess there might be more people that think like me in terms of DVD/BD purchasing. XD I just thought that English dub premieres can't be that bad if Neon Alley is showing English premieres of Inuyasha Final Act, Naruto Shippuden, Blue Exorcist (which I didn't know was getting an English dub), Tiger and Bunny, etc., but then again, NA is a PS3 exclusive and not TV. ^^;
Brilliant idea! Buy both! XD Yeah, sorry, couldn't if I wanted to. My priorities lie in buying anime DVD/BD. I'm already kissing ~$250 goodbye just for two series. Heaven help me if I try to pick up the Fate/Zero BD sets (~$750 for both sets) or hunt down the Garden of Sinners BD set (~$500)…no way would I have the money for 2 3DS handhelds. XDD
-
New plan: Show One Piece for two hours. One hour devoted to old episodes. One hour devoted to new premieres. The end. Everyone wins. Ha..haha..ha…
