Seeing as how the Marines have a fucking BASE there, they obviously aren't afraid to step foot on the island -.-
Not saying the samurai aren't strong, but remember that Ryuma was famous even among the samurai for being unusually strong and skilled enough to kill a dragon. If we assume all the samurai are close to Ryuma's level, then they certainly wouldn't present a threat to a Marine base if it was guarded by Pacifistas

I can say that Oda chose 4 of of the strawhats only because of these reasons:
Luffy: Luffy is the baka captain and the hero of the story.
Zoro: Zoro with Luffy are going to meet a person/s who's/'re stronger than them. Also, the samurai story is not far away from being true.
Usopp: Well, you need a coward to show the readers how scary thing can become in One Piece world.
Robin: She is going to start talking about history and stories from the past next chapter.

How would he go about on the island if it had already become a marine/WG stronghold though? Maybe the samurais hid him wherever they are on the island. Also Ace called it 'Wano' not 'Punk hazard'.
As for the speculations that the duel took place here 2 years ago the island was deserted 4 years ago so it would be convenient to fight there.

I totally think it's one of Vegapunk's research facilities, in which case it would have a decent amount of security (at least when it was still operational before the "incident") including Pacifistas and Sentoumaru

I like the theory that Punk Hazzard is the island Aokiji and Akainu fought. Given there's a dragon, samurai and presumably something else there, the incident could involve something different.
Also like the idea that the Dragon is "talking" like the sea kings are talking since Luffy is the only reaction shot shown at the end (waits for theory to get shot down next week).
Found it a bit odd Iceberg chose the 10 (then 8 year old) since I always thought she looked like Robin. And can't tell if that's really Tyrannosaurus or those statue-thingys.

But my guess is that the island is divided in two sections, cold and hot. Both having their own dragon: Flame and Ice dragon.
The island was somekind of test area for wegapunk, but 4 years ago the dragons came and caused the incident.

Maybe this is the island where Vegapunk was working on giving the pacifistas the powers fromt he admirals, like Kizaru's Laser beams, but something went wrong with Akainu's and Aokiji's powers and that is why the island is volcanic and icy.

THOSE buildings are the marine base…which REPLACED the Wano country's traditional buildings cus the Marines took over the island to do research
I don't see why people think dragons can't talk, or haven't talked, in past…things.
To use a more recent example, the dragons in Skyrim could talk.

First and most importanat…. Robin is so hawwwtt...litterally. Dont remember when was the last time she wears tank top and undies.
Next.. possible theory for the dragon... A zoan.. a really powerful one. Or just a talking dragon.
If this island really is Hot and Cold.. than the cold one is also ruled by a myth creatures. Though I dont know any creatures that have ice powers...exept aokiji... but hes not stupid enough to freeze half an island (than again i havent know him that well ...LOL).
But what really intrigues me is the middle symbol on the gates. It just screams minotaur to me. But that would be redundant because its been used in impel down arc.
I just hope from now on.. smoker and luffy doesnt turnout to be a neverending chase.... rather finish it here.. or smoker backs down.. cuz we know luffy will never backs down.

starting from page 1 and reading and responding so most likely already said but Smoker talks about some incident 4 years ago that made this island what it is now. Thus it can't be the Akainu/Aokiji fight cause that was only 2 years ago at latest.
Now not saying they couldn't have fought there 2 years ago, just that the islands current condition is not a result of their fighting.
I don't know why people always like to minimize an interesting thing that could expand One Piece's world into a simple "OH IT'S A DF USER". Just think at all the possibilities that dragons can have on One Piece. I will hate if it's indeed just a DF.

Brook said that there is a country known for being home of samurai but he couldn't identify THAT island as it. It could be either that Wano is a totally different country, and the samurai traveled there, or a different set of samurai that are not from Wano.
We have a 50/50 chance that it is the Wano Samurai there. Or it could be that Brook mentioning Wano and then dragon appearance is a red herring Oda threw to his readers

Second I am loving that they mentioned Wano again. I can't wait to see more of the Samurai. Ryuuma was very impressive especially considering that he was in a dead body and with the shadow of a mediocre fighter(I love Brook as much as anyone but by New World standards he is a bit mediocre) in the driving seat. I wouldn't be surprised if thir elite is up there at the level of vice admirals.
Third I am loving the dragon. It was about time that we saw one with all the other incredible creatures in OP world

Maybe there is some kind of connection. They did find a huge skull but they said it was bigger than a giants. Then again…we have seen abnormally large giants throughout the series.
Overall great chapter, I'm going with the theory of this being the place where Aokoji and Akainu fought.
