I don't know how the 360 and PS3 handle saved music files. I could see a sort of portable radio though. Or if they can read music files off the consoles' HDDs that could work too. I'm kind of interested in how much music and talk radio Rockstar had in IV. It seemed like quite a lot.

I'm sure someone has my answer, but I see no reason a custom radio station/ mp3 player cannot be used with a ps3/or 360's downloaded music files… at least for this installment.
When changing stations it could just be like switching to an auxiliary channel.
From Def Jam: Icon's wiki article:
On the Xbox 360 Console, players are also able to load up their own music (Custom Soundtracks)…
If a game from 2007 can do it, then GTA V should definitely be able to handle it…

For starters, the missions are boring when compared to those in San Andreas.
All of these games have had some boring missions if we're going to single out IV we might as well single out the others as well.
go here, kill this person
Same thing with the previous games especially the third.
and most of them had you drive clear across the map to your target.
At least if your car or bike got messed up it your weren't left walking through the wilderness hoping and praying you found a replacement vehicle like in San Andreas.
-
Read some of my follow-up posts regarding the missions.
Fair point with the walking thing, though. Strangely enough, I didn't really mind hoofing it through the woods or desert before finding a replacement vehicle. Of course, that's because the environment wasn't all gray and samey, unlike in IV.
I finished the story earlier today, and it was a pretty underwhelming ending. The bike stunt pissed me off, though, so I'm just glad that's over with. I started up The Lost and Damned, so hopefully it'll prove a bit more entertaining, and if it doesn't, then it'll be up to The Ballad of Gay Tony to save this game…

Any real (and not boring) San Andreas player if they got their car messed up would use one of the various vehicle cheat codes to spawn a vehicle
-
I must be boring, then, because I never used cheats during the game…

Kind of hard to do when you have no computer to get the codes from and even when you do have the codes you can't remember them by memory, made all the worst by the paper with them written on on it being lost :S
-
I don't know about on the consoles but the bike jump onto the helicopter at the end of IV was pretty much impossible on PC. I had to record with Fraps to make my framerate go way down to even have a chance at doing it and even then it took a good 6 or 7 tries. And I make it a point to not use any cheats during the main stories of games even if it doesn't affect anything like here.
-
I barely passed that annoying jump earlier today (on ps3), and I assure you, that jump was just as annoying on consoles. The Sanchez handled like shit (like most bikes in IV), and having to ride it on sand certainly didn't help. I believe it took me at least five tries before I finally managed to get onto the damn chopper, which is four tries too many. If this sequence had been in the previous games, where the Sanchez handled excellently on sand, then that jump would've been a piece of cake. I don't even want to imagine having to pull that jump off on PC…

Supposedly a partial GTAV vehicle list was found in MP3's files. The partial list names 48 cars, 5 bikes, 10 helicopters, 1 plane, 25 boats, 9 trains, as well as various snow vehicles, skiing, and snow plow.
If this is real then holy shit. That's a lot of vehicles.

And that is just a partial list god knows how many more there are. I love a wide variety of vehicles.

I just dont see how theres one plane. Only thing thats keeping me from doubting that.

New GTA V screens
Bicycle
Cheeta
Fighter Jet
-
IGN's tiny pictures suck
Also someone adjusted some settings for the plane picture and it looks like the guy in the suit from the trailer. He's most likely the protagonist.
-
Glad to see Cheetas are back, I missed them in the last game. I hope Coquettes stick around, though…
-
The lighting looks like it's improved from IV. IV looked good at some points but a lot of the time it was brown, gray, and orange. I hope that doesn't happen in this game.
And looks like you'll be able to play tennis.I'm wondering how this is affecting GTA's reputation. For people who haven't played it GTA is "that game where you kill hookers". I wonder if some of those people are confused if they have seen these pictures. They probably haven't but it's an interesting thought.
-
This game really does that that free world feeling to it from the screenshots. Rather than that restrianed realistic crap the last game did.
-
It wasn't as bad as people make it out to be. GTAIV was an amazing game. It wasn't as large as SA but it felt more alive than SA did. I'd rather have a smaller world if it feels more alive than a massive empty one. Just Cause 2 and Skyrim both had this problem. They both felt really empty to me. I don't mind the direction IV took and I hope it continues in this game. I don't mind if they put a little more silly stuff in but I really liked IV's direction.
-
I want this game now. -
Screenshots do look nice. Here's hoping the main char is at least interesting, you can do random wacky stuff and you no longer have to run around after your brother/girlfriend/other people all day long.
-
No idea why people hate GTAIV so much. It's a pretty awe-inspiring game; while it doesn't have the total freedom of San Andreas, it's pretty fucking amazing in its own respect. People bitch way too much about the game.

Can't be any weaker than CJ and any more shallow than Claude (GTA3).

People also can't whine about the limitations either you couldn't ride bikes in
GTA 3 and you couldn't even swim until SA. -

Convince me here. I really have no idea what's the appeal of having a game feel more alive.
I mean, what can you do? Walk around and sight-see in some virtual simulation of real life? I mean, I love cities, seeing different people of different cutures interacting, and basically life. But in a game? There's just an uncanny valley there. Especially if the game doesn't give me more options to do things that isn't possible for me to do in real life. The last game had some of those things sure, but it still felt really restrained. Almost as if it wasn't a fun-loving, satire filled, ridiculous GTA game to begin with. It was a good game, but it wasn't what I shelled 60 dollars for. Slap another title on that game, I would not even throw the change to buy it.If no one understands that, and sees this as "bitching" bout this oh so great GTA game, then give me a lapdance and watch me not tip you
-
Well actually yeah. I liked walking around and just watching things happen. A lot of stuff in IV was dynamic. There would be shootouts every once in a while, or cops chasing after people, and other things. I don't know, I like doing that in open world games but some, like Just Cause 2, I really can't. I mean the scenery in that game is pretty cool but the game doesn't feel like much of a living world.

That and a release date.

Rockstar is now asking for suggestions on how they should handle the multiplayer aspect of the game.
http://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/45621/what-would-you-like-to-see-in-gtav-crews.html
I honestly never got much into the multiplayer of GTA IV, but I thought it was a step in the right direction. I'm glad they can swallow their pride and do this if they're having trouble with the multiplayer design. Hopefully they get some awesome ideas to use, but I personally don't have any.

could be worse, it could be a ghost town like saints row 3 (which i love)

I think companies whose products are very much based on "having fun", like the GTA franchise and Rockstar in general's catalogue, can benefit a lot from user feedback and tight communities and whatnot- not embarrassing by any means, reflects nicely too. It's really cool to basically imply that they're not confident to just release something without seeing more of what fans would like.

Balance the shooting mechanics, add smaller more controlled maps and avoid the problems currently plaguing Max Payne 3's Multiplayer and I might bite.

I guess we can expect more info in November (about time)
-
GTAV is the cover article of Game Informer next month so we should be getting quite a lot of info. Rockstar also just released what looks like one of their loading screen artworks.
-
It has been confirmed the rapper "the game" will be on GTA V, his character is the dude driving the red car in the trailer.. He also voiced OG in GTA 3 I guess not sure cuz I've forgotten..
-
Do you mean OG Loc? He was in SA, not 3.
-
OH god. He was easily one of the most annoying chars in the series. Hope we can kill him off this time.
-
New screen shot

Stuff is coming out about the gameinformer article about this game. http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2012/11/08/december-cover-revealed-grand-theft-auto-v.aspx
Right now it's mostly just the box art and the fact that there are now apparently 3 main protagonists. The way they word it makes me wonder if you can use all 3 at various times. That would certainly be a daring change to a ridiculously successful franchise. This game probably sold 10 million copies just by being announced.
The funny thing is that the tiny web article got so much initial traffic that it crashed the website when it was first released.
-
Yeah GTA's mass appeal is somewhat astonishing, I think I was most suprised by it when I was 15 and learned that a lot of non gamer people love this game even though they play it very differently I think. Even more surprised was I by the fact that it seemed equally popular with the girls I knew and that was before I phones and facebook when gaming was still somewhat a less accepted hobby with the slouch stigma.
Skyrim recently also surprised me in that regard although not quite to the same degree for the same reasons. So either we're getting nerdier or developers are figuring out what elements of sandbox have insane mass appeal.
-
GTA's mass appeal really comes from the fact that you can take the role of someone that you could not be in real life. And I mean outside the mian story and missions. You can gun down people, steal cars, fly airplanes, crash shit, abuse cheat codes for godhood, and pretty much feel like you've reached the pinnacle of what it is like to be a human being against that defies all laws. This is why I tend to argue that GTAIV was a step back for the franchise, as it felt like it held back on the things that made the games appealing in order to simulate a "realistic" crime drama with "some" sandbox elements. It was a good game, but it wasn't the game I paid money for. Haha I think I've said that earlier in the thread already.
Anyway, the more I hear about the game, the more exited I get. I was honestly losing interest, but I'm glad it seems like Rockstar is listening to their real fans. Note: that MAY change wen the game is released, but I'm optimistic.

News!

Edit: wrong link before sry, fixed it now

Three Male Leads. They have different lives. Each of them has a family member who REALLY loves to call them up and play Pool. Scary.
Seeing that, it made me think, does GTA even have a remotely interesting or strong female character? I remember there was the one girl who ended up being the final villain of 3 but aside from that I honestly cannot remember lol.
-
I don't blame Rockstar with all the feminism bullshit going around these days in regards to video games. They don't want to take the chance they'll step over some line if they have a female lead, or at least that's what seems most likely to me.
Edit:
When you include interior and exterior spaces together, Los Santos is bigger than the worlds of RDR, San Andreas, and GTAIV combined, with room to spare.
Wow.
-
I'm reading the article now. FUUKKKKK! This is so damned exiting!
Their take on switching between 3 dudes living separate from eachother with their own stories not only gets rid of that element of being restrained to one area early in the game, but it also brings back a narrative in storytelling that I once thought was dead, or too complicated/daring to accomplish when it comes to triple A titles. GTA has already inspired other brands to do alot with the sandbox formula. Think about what kind of things THIS would spawn if Rockstar pulls it off?! I'm really exited for this! Like son! -
Yeah the character switching sounds really good.
-

Holy crap that is big
-
Honestly, that's almost too big. I'm going to get tired out trying to explore all of that! But serious kudos to them for pulling that off. I really like the sound of how they plan to handle the 3 protagonists at once. I'm betting they all start out in the same city, though. Hell, driving from one city to another sounds like a serious project. Those planes may actually get some serious use.
I'm not sure how I feel about not owning real estate. Hopefully you still get safe houses scattered throughout the map. I don't really care about the lack of relationships, but some of the crazy women they wrote I found hilarious.
I'm pumped for the idea of having tennis and golf minigames. I was hoping for golf especially after the Ballad of Gay Tony. With underwater areas, there should be scuba diving as well. Yoga and triathalons are just lol to me. There should be plenty of gambling too. I'm also pumped that the driving engine is getting an upgrade. The racing should hopefully have Midnight Club type potential (owned by Rockstar), which is easily one of my favorite racing games in the current generation. That was one area of GTA IV that just didn't hold up for me in the long term, but I still love Midnight Club to this day.
This game is going to destroy me. I wonder how I'll even find time to sit in my character's house and watch TV.
-
There's only one city in the game, Los Santos, with the surrounding countryside. I found GTAIV's driving to be really good. I'm kind of sad they're changing it, even a little, but I'm interested in what exactly they're going to change about it and how it'll turn out.
-
Holy crap, that article! I read a similar one on Game Trailers, but it was way less detailed. The only thing about it I didn't like is that there won't be any cameos from the pre-IV games, but that's a very minor nitpick on my part. I'm sure the hype will explode all the more after the new trailer goes live on the fourteenth (also, once people read GI's article later today)…
