 but why? I've always dress up as an alien! …I should write a story about an alien who is shunned when he goes to a monster academy and-- dammit stop filling my mind with story ideas, Sai-chan. I can't keep up with anything. I just know I'll wind up leaving it unfinished yet again like all my other entries thus far. D: (is there such a thing as being too inspiring? :wassat:).

Well, if it would help you, I've always been an idea person and/or an idea helper. lol
sorry about being too inspiring? -
hey whatever happened to that themed writing idea we were discussing? Halloween is coming up after all…
Ooh, a Halloween/thriller theme would be interesting~
Uh… I can write a poem for Halloween. But I doubt it'd be all that long. o3o;
I completely dropped the ball on this. I forgot we were thinking about themes and I was just waiting for people to enter while also looking for judges (how on earth did Kenny do all this?)
I'd go for the Halloween theme, but Jay already entered a story and it wouldn't be fair to ask him to change it. -

sorry about being too inspiring? You make it harder to resist writing. lol well maybe I'll attempt it once my stupid English essay is done. No promises though. <__<

Do it. I'm sure you'd be great at it. do poems count as valid submissions for this competition? Just curious.
! When you’re alone in the night
Darkness all around
What do you think you’ll see?
In the night of All Hallows eve
A witch flying on her broom
Casting a shadow on the moon?
Or her cat lying beside her
Basking in the noon
Her hat and dress of blackened death
Flutters in the empty sky
The clouds grant her cover
Shields her from prying eyes
For she knows whoever sees her
Might tell by candle light
Of the witch they saw
Flying through the night
Underneath the ground right about now
The zombies are waking up
They’re crawling and creeping out of their graves
Up to the air of the starless dark sky
Their green decaying hands
Reach out to grab a fistful of sand
For while their heads are out and about
Their bodies however need a little help
In the dungeons beneath the earth
The vamps are all waking up
Their coffins creaking and squeaking
As they all finally lay up
They prowl through the cities
All around the town
Their capes all a'waving
Looking for the perfect treat
The best blood to drink down
Their pale faces glowing in the moonlight
Their black coats and capes
They hide in the hallways
Awaiting her to take the bait
Near the woods at the end of town
There are hairy creatures all down
In the forest, howling at the moon
The werewolves are all gathered
Soon they’ll raid the city
Eating all they can
But never once killing
For they prefer their hides
Away from man
A spider spins his web somewhere
In the branches of a willow tree
He spins and spun and spins again
His string wrapping up a little meal
He soon will eat once he's done
And during all this midnight chaos
Though few shall ever see
The monsters riding a broom
Or the ones hiding under trees
Only the pumpkin smiling his toothed smile
With his candle lit eyes
Will ever watch the monsters
From beneath darkened skiesUh, well, he's something I came up with in the last hour. It's not really good (especially in some parts) but hey, it's something. xD

As long as the alien is as crazy as you can make him. ;)
-
Oh, lovely poem! and by lovely I mean it kind of gives me chills, but in a good way.
my god, this alien could be some kind of epic fusion between Prince Baka and Zim!! Mwaha ha ha… yes... I can see it now..

Chills? How so? o: Thanks!
I don't know who this Prince Baka is, but if he's as crazy as Zim I fully support this fusion.

It's hard to explain. 030 There's just some kind of magic to your style. I don't think it's just the fact that you wrote about Halloween, but there's life to it. It paints vivid imagery and sort of makes me feel like dancing to some kind of tune. It just feels like a song that I can almost hear by reading. … or something. and somehow the zombie part was delightful even though ordinarily zombies would freak me the fuck out.
Prince Baka is this narcissistic alien who loves causing mayhem and trouble for his own entertainment and will go to extraordinary lengths to mess with people. He drives everyone nuts and doesn't give a fuck. He's hilarious and childish even though he's actually very intelligent.

Haha, maybe I should write poems more often. I like adding a 'sing-song' vibe to my writings because I like what it adds. It just flows much better and feels nice. <3
I'm kinda surprised I added zombies. I hate zombies and they normally frighten me–but it's halloween and what halloween wouldn't be complete without zombies. I just had to make them... less creepy. lol
I think I love this guy. He just sounds amazing! And combined with Zim?! Doitdoitdoitdoitdoit

Yeah I think that's it. You take things that can be scary and turn into some magical wonder. It's thrilling.
okay! and this time I should actually attempt to properly plan a story. :ninja: this:
! >!
plus this:
! >!
has the potential of greatness if I actually work hard on it. -
It's fun–probably because halloween is something I love. <3
Oooooh this sounds amaaaziiiinnng. Oh god little green idiots that intentionally cause mayhem and chaos to people. It reminds me of the episode where Zim creates an entire future for Dib to try and find out if it was Dib who threw the muffin at him.

I was thinking about the themes and I remembered seeing this writing challenge game on fictionpress once, and found it kinda interesting. It probably won't work out in this situation, especially because most people are writing multi-chapter stories, but we could maybe have a challenge of sorts on some weeks. Like doing a whole chapter without using the word said, or having to use a particular sentence at some point. Could be kinda fun, I dunno.
When is Halloween, anyway? /not American
If it's too late to set a Halloween theme, and it won't work for the next round, then maybe we could have a Thanksgiving (I dunno when Thanksgiving is either) or Christmas theme instead! That could be kinda fun too :)
-
I say we do a Christmas Theme next month. That way the results will be in December. Seems appropriate to me.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Oh, and Halloween is on the last day of every October, while I think Thanksgiving is the last Thursday of every November.
-
god the muffins… it's a perfect match. :ninja:
Halloween is October 31st, which is apparently a Monday this year. I second the Christmas theme
with robot elves. -
@Cuddles:
I completely dropped the ball on this. I forgot we were thinking about themes and I was just waiting for people to enter while also looking for judges (how on earth did Kenny do all this?)
I'd go for the Halloween theme, but Jay already entered a story and it wouldn't be fair to ask him to change it.I'd have no problem changing my story (in fact I still have to fix a few things in it before judging time begins :ninja: ) but I think we should plan themes in advance. Like planning a Christmas theme would be possible since there is time to plan things before it begins. But it's halfway through the month of October already, Halloween being 16 days away. If anyone wants to start writing a Halloween-themed story that's fine, but I think it's a little late to make it a theme.
When is Halloween, anyway? /not American
A day where children dress up in costumes and go from door to door in neighborhoods and yell out "trick or treat". Then they get candy from whoever opened the door.
This goes on alllllll night. And it is glorious.

She said when not what , atleast I hope she knows what halloween is :p
-
Ah sorry. It's a little early for me right now.
-
haha yeah I know what Halloween is, but thanks anyway JayJay :)
we could have a list of themes in the first post too, when people have agreed on them. :)
-
Well if we really want to have a halloween one we could lower the char minimum and make a short story I guess
But I would love a christmas theme
-
I think I could manage a Halloween-themed short story, and I'd be interested in reading others'.
-
I dunno, I think we can encourage Halloween submissions, but to make them a requirement might be too much. I mean, it worked for the Bi-Weekly, but with only twelve competitions a year? I don't know. :\
-
Themes might make if challenging for people that are writing the same story. Halloween, then possibly Christmas, then maybe Valentine's Day? (and other themes I haven't thought of) Monthly themes or special competitions based on themes would be pretty interesting, but it might be a bit much depending on how many theme contests there are. I'd totally be interested in reading them though.

Ah, you have a point. A one-time, non-required theme then?
Like ultimateclima more or less said, maybe you should consider setting an optional theme for every competition. Having directions or a certain goal might be encouraging for people to write something.
-
I was gonna say it should be optional too. Sometimes when people have writers block, a prompt of some kind makes it easier, but we wouldn't want to deter someone who wants to submit but doesn't like that particular theme/topic that gets chosen.
-
I'd write something for Halloween, but I'm too busy focusing on A Dastardly Two right now to work on something else. Maybe next year.
-
We're going to make the Halloween theme optional this time. Maybe once we get more organized, maybe we can have dual competitions: the regular monthly contests and a two week contest with a lower character limit to give incentive to participate. A Christmas contest would be a good experiment.
-
…tempted to join in.
Oh so tempted. -
By all means, come join the fun.
We stop accepting at the end of the month if you need more time to decide though.

Oki~
Just need a few ideas :|
so there's a Halloween writing competition, right? Can it have ANY theme at all?
Knowing me I'd submit one and it'd be either all pansy or bad because I'm terrible with gore even written down X'D stupid me. -
The theme is completely optional. It doesn't have to be about Halloween if you don't want it to.

OOo oki~
I have a vague idea of what I might write, though it's bad enough I've already got a fic on the mind B)
though the 'category' it would be in is rather odd ; 3 ;'' -
Even if it's Halloween-themed, it doesn't necessarily have to be gore. A comedy would be fun too! :)

Will probably do something like a nightmare or something o , o
like not a gorey one… just really... weird. -
Sure, that sounds cool :)
And what happened to all those stories we were promised! glares at Woody
-
I've decided not to submit this time and fill one of the judging spots this time around.
So heads up, guys.~
-
Ah okay cool~ Hopefully more entries will come in soon! :)

Is horror in general accepted as Halloween-y enough?
-
Is horror in general accepted as Halloween-y enough?
I think so. Horror is part of the spirit of Halloween.
-
Hmmmmmmmm. Hmmm. Hm. Intriguing.
Might I be able to continue Garbled Sanctuary…?

Do eet. Do EEEEEEET!!
Pretty please with sugar on top?
I'm a good organizer. :D
(But seriously, I also like Silent Hill, and I'd like to review more than one story. ^^; ) -
Will the Christmas theme be for next month or the month after that?
-
Hmmm…I'd like to make it in December, actually. It'll be judged in January, but might as well have everyone type while they're in the spirit.
-
Yeah, that sounds good :D
-
Can I join in and write something, is this where I sign up?
-
Can I join in and write something, is this where I sign up?
Anyone can join in as long as they have something to show. Just write something, create a thread of your own and link your text here if you want to enter the competition. All the people here are always willing to read stories from new writers, so please, go ahead and write something. :D

(But seriously, I also like Silent Hill, and I'd like to review more than one story. ^^; )I don't want to disappoint anyone so I won't promise anything, but all right, I'll try! :) The deadline was at the end of this month, correct?
-
Yup. The deadline is October 31st.
-
Still not making any promises, but I did manage to at least start the next chapter. I'll try my best to have it ready by the end of the month.
-
how is it already four days before the deadline? orz
-
My entry for the October competition is now finished and can be found and read here.
The character count is 9959, or at least that's what Word tells me. Now remember, this is a DIRECT CONTINUATION to the first part which was also a competition entry in its time. It's still fanfiction, but I have tried my best to write in a way where the reader doesn't have to possess any previous familiarity with the source material. I also tried to reduce the amount of excessive description of which I have been criticized for. Whether or not I have succeeded is up for the readers to decide~ It's mostly a build-up chapter, but hopefully at least a halfway decent one.
