Looks like we'll be getting a new suikoden!
New Suikoden Title (PSP)
-
-
About bloody time, too. Looks like it's taking after Teirkries, though. ;.;
Still, Suikoden - yay!
-
Doesn't look to be a numbered one. And Tierkries was nothing special. I'll probably get it if it's for the regular PSP.
-
Yeah, the infinite worlds thing sounds like a tierkreis retread to me.
Konami have become a fairly pathetic company recently. It's happened so slowly I never really noticed. It's not like they've done anything ostensibly offensive like square or capcom, they've just…tailed off. When I think they used to release stuff like the mainline suikoden games, contra, parodius, twinbee, tmnt, iss64, vandal hearts, fun castlevanias...
-
Like I said in the sega thread…
I'd rather this were part 6 and they got back around to continuing the huge epic multi-generational story... that has some old characters pop up ocassionally. If there's no Jeane or Vicki, or the children from one game growing up in another, or adults having children... what's the point?
As a standalone thing with none of the carry over? Eh. I've gone around and collected 108 guys 5 times before now, that novelty isn't enough now.
(I'm counting Tierkries when I say 5. I STILL haven't played 2... even though most people say its the best one. Release it to the PSN already guys!)
Also, it'd be nice if just once the Suikoden games weren't quite so locked into the character order. Its annoying getting teased by an interesting looking character, then having to wait 40 hours until they join as the 103 member of your army right before the final battle. I'm fine with the story locking a few key characters, but the optionals should be... more readily gettable.
-
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-
FUCKING FINALLY!
My god. I don't even care if this another spin-off. I'm just so happy it's back and I'm trembling in excitement.
….
Is that boy with the blue bandanna and clothing young Flik?
-
Doesn't look like the colour of Flik air and I would prefer if its a sequel to move forward, we got two games that went backwards, still I wouldn't mind it going backwards to show Flik past XD but I still prefer going to new places in the future instead of the past, I really want to know more about Harmonia for example.
Well last time I heard they fired their Suikoden team, so I am expecting something new, this new developers might not want to touch on the lore the others created and mess it up(obviously they can just go and play the 5 games and read the books).
I also hope there is more to the upgrading of the HQ like more customization, build it a certain way, also a misson/quest mode like Tiekries had would be nice, I kinda wanted to see the main characters come back, etc.
I still want a massive Suikoden were armies join together for something and we have all the True Runes users from previows games fighting some bad dudes with True Runes too, I really want to play as Riou/Jowy/Nanami again from Suikoden 2.
Apparently the title is Genso Suikoden: The Woven Web of a Century, so atleast its not called 6 so it really is up in the air its a sequel or not.
-
I personally would love a Leknaat origin story.
The gate-rune wars would be epic. -
I'm with Robby give us part 6 already. Also definitely get around to 2 it really is the best one.
-
@Schwerer:

I have an hard time deciding between 2 and 3, 3 was really big with the whole 4 storylines and each one of them was pretty interesting to play but I really like Riou, Nanami and Jowy like I said and I like a bunch of other characters on the second, plus Luka Blight is a badass, yeah 2 is probably my favourite lol.
I'm actually replaying 1 and 2 now that I saw this announced.

I'd love to. If they ever get around to releasing it on PSN, I'll get it first day.
I'm not about to spend 150-200$ on ebay to get it.
-
Just a thought, but on another forum someone translated the spoken part of the video and it mentioned something that happened 100 years in the past. Maybe it is set in the proper world and we'll get to see the descendants of some characters? I'd be happy if that were the case, but something (that one line of text about the doorways or whatever) tells me this isn't the case.

I did that about 5 years ago ($US200 all up) and I've never thought it a bad investment. I've played that game more times than any other - it's just that good. (Yes, even more than Pokemon.)
-

It's pretty easy to emulate, unless you're against that. That's how I played 1 and 2. Though yeah I have no idea why it's not on PSN. Japanese nor Western. It'd go great since it has some file transfer with the first game.

I thought 3 was a bit derpy, but nothing holds a candle to how awful 4 was. Luca Blight is nuts though, best part of 2.
-
I think im actually one of those rare people that actually liked Suikoden 4..
It wasn't a great game, but i enjoyed it more then 5.And 2, truly is the best Suikoden. Luca Blight is probably my most favorite game villain.

Why ? isn't that "original" lover syndrome lol?
I though 3 story was really good, in all aspecsts, villans, clans stuff, etc.
I also don't think 4 is awful, its one of those situations were everyone started saying it is awful because its cool to say its awful(imo), its definetly the one I like less and I though like I said before the army battles in 4 were kinda boring, the storyline is nice and I liked the boat idea(I even have a One Piece world idea for a game like that haha) and the battling and the hero run weren't really that nice but like I said Suikoden to me is about enjoying the story and colecting all the characters, etc its a fun rpg, the games are easy as hell besides maybe the last bosses of 3, I play it to have fun not for the challenge, that is why I have played every game like 3 times now.
Yeah Luca is probably the reason why so many people like 2 more lol, I like the main characters a lot and I really enjoyed him as a villan too, that is my main reason for liking the game(plus the storyline but I liked all of them in that regard) and that is the reason why I want to see them appear in a future game, them and Tir, I believe Tir is traveling with Gremio after 1 ended and Nanami/Jowy/Riou are also traveling, so them appearing in a future game is possible.
I'm playing 1 for the third time now and will play 2 for the 4th time after that.
If I had to rank them I would say:
2>3>1>5>4
I also happen to like a few final fantasies more then 7 since I think the game is kinda overated and is also a "trend" to say it, I think 9 is better and I like 6 a lot and 10(yeah I realize some people don't like the game due to Blitzbal which is a retarded reason to not like a game).
-
I could see how people get sucked into hating games just because it's the prevalent opinion. Though, I assure you I found 4 to be boring as fuck. Several friends said it was before I got to try it but I went in trying to give it a chance and… god. It just blows. And 3 is okay just a bit unconventional to me.
-
Part 4 was pretty bad right out the gate. When just getting the boat to dock between islands was a chore, full of the boat automatically turning around and nonstop enemy encounters…. there was a significant problem.
I did that about 5 years ago ($US200 all up) and I've never thought it a bad investment. I've played that game more times than any other - it's just that good. (Yes, even more than Pokemon.)
1. I don't really have time to play through games once, let alone replay them.
2. I know that if I ever did order a copy for an insane sum, the minute my order was non returnable it would be announced for the PSN for 6 bucks. -
@RobbyBevard:

You have to sacrifice your wallet so we may reap the benefits of it appearing on PSN.

Yup my issue was more into the gameplay like I said, I enjoyed the story, which made the game not boring for me.

XD so you didn't finish it?
Unconventional why, just asking since you didn't explain why it was derpy either, I'm not trying to be an ass I'm making a genuine question.

Holy's got the right idea here. Take one for the team, Robby! I'm a bit interested, though the only Suikoden game i've played is the first…

Oh I did. Trying to like it every step of the way and being bored out of my mind. And if having the 108 stars split between several factions isn't unconventional and kinda derpy compared to the first two games then I dunno what is.
-
Maybe i just liked Suikoden 4, because it had 2 of my favorite True Runes. The Soul Eater and the Rune of Punishment.
And i'm a sucker for prequels.I hope the next game doesn't give us many missable characters. I want to be able to get all stars in 1 run, and without a walkthrough.
Anyways, my top Suikoden list would be;
1. Suikoden 2
2. Suikoden 3
3. Suikoden 1
4. Suikoden 4
5. Suikoden 5 -
Gaiya do what I do, there are spoiler free walkthrough, I used them every time I played one of the new games after Suikoden 1, never missed a thing since then XD.
Schwerer Gustav yeah the recruting process ended up being kinda weird since before they actually joined togther each of the groups could only use the ones they recruited, etc, still I found it funny how we actually got to see various "forces" points of view and see them eventually joining together but fair enough.
-
The opposing views thing isn't inherently bad. Just weird for something like Suikoden where you normally run off to gather an army of 108 buddies. Still a good game overall.
-

Yeah, i know - I used such a walkthrough for all games. Andi have beaten all the games with 108 stars, besides Suikoden 4.
But i still like to find all the characters myself, instead of relying on a walkthrough. No time-based character recruitments, would be great.
Letting me be able to get all characters, even if i'm just before the final boss fight. -
I personally find it very fulfilling to be able to recruit all 108 stars without relying on a walkthrough. I was able to do this twice in my second playthrough of Suiko 1 & 2, and I only really had to refer to a walkthrough for Suiko 2 after reading in Suikosource Forums that there are hidden alternate stars (Abizboah and Boris) and more recruitable non-star characters like the Kraken family.
What I don't like about Suikoden's time-based character recruitment system is that you can't recruit readily recruitable characters on certain missions. You're going to liberate a town and you sidetrack to Cave of the Wind to go get Pesmerga, only to find that you wasted your time because he's not there. It's quite frustrating.
-
Just saw a tweet from the game twitter account and apparently we are going to get new info soon in a magazine or something(google translated it so I can't really be sure).
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Here are the new stuff that came has been revealed, got to say the plot doesn't really seems interesting, defeat a monster that appears once every 100 years meh, well see.
Also from what I'm understanding or atleast getting, it doesn't seem it will be part either of the Original work or the Tierkreis wrold.
Never seen in previows stories any mention of a huge monster, I guess if it existed in the Original world games, it would have been mentioned already, then again like I said this apparently is a new development team and I was kinda thinking that this was going to be a completelly new game due to that, so they wouldn't mess with the lore the other team created, I fear the Original series will never be restarted if it isn't here.
Well hopefully the games ends up being nice and this new team, makes their own series of Suikodens.
@http://andriasang.com/comynr/:
The new PSP Suikoden game was one of Konami's big surprise announcements from Tokyo Game Show, but the announcement came without details. Famitsu has a few bits this week.
Fully Genso Suikoden Tsumugareshi Hyakunen no Toki, this new entry in Konami's RPG franchise tells the story a group of characters who rise up to defeat a beast that appears every 100 years and destroys everything. The main character is apparently sent 100 years back into the past by a mysterious girl named Zephon.
Characters introduced in the magazine include: the main character (voiced by Hiroshi Kamiya), Jino (Jun Fukuyama), Myura (Marina Inoue), Zephon (Yuuki Kaji) and Ducasse (Katsuyuki Konishi)
Famitsu's first look at Suikoden appears to be low on details, as the magazine does not show battle or field sequences.
We'll hopefully get additional details later in the day. Until then, take another look at the Tokyo Game Show teaser. -
Sounds to me that they're just using the title Suikoden to sell the game. This'll have a castle and 108 stars and that'll be the only relation to the Suikoden world. As long as it's good however I'm fine with that.
-
I'm kinda just happy to hear that they're trying to revive Suikoden at all, considering the team was disbanded.
Hopefully somehow whatever this game is may lead to Konami putting down money on 6.
-
They aren't willing to put the cash and development time into a next-gen title that continues the story. We're probably only going to get cheaper handheld offshoots unrelated beyond the premise from here on.
Shame, since the world is so interesting and has a great history and I want to see where it all goes… it would make a great ongoing novel/manga/anime series. (And I've read the Suikoden 3 manga, it was great.)
-
yeah I loved the Suiko 3 manga. Especially because they didn't release 3 here anyways so it was the only way to follow the story after the events of Suikoden 2 here
-
Same :P(also read the manga and liked it), damn, I recently replayed all the games due to this announcement and I want to know about so much stuff in the original world…
Konami could indeed atleast pay some artists/writers and make a manga to cover the rest of the world, we don't know about most of it and some parts that we know about, we haven't visited them yet.
Well I really liked Tierkris so if they can make something as good I would be happy(then again Tierkris was made by the old team too).
-
Some new info
Konami revealed new details of Genso Suikoden: Tsumugareshi Hyakunen no Toki for PSP.
The protagonist is a swordsman of the Terube Village, his village was completely destroyed by a fearsome monster which appears every 100 years; with the help of a mystery boy Dukas, he traveled 100 years back in time to find a way to stop the monster. Some of the characters in the scan include the hero Gino, Myra the magic stone craftsman, Zefon the mage and Dukas the boy from 100 years ago who sent Gino back in time. -

Couldn't have agreed more. Not to mention there are still alot of mysteries that need to be resolved such as the conflict between Pesmerga and Yuber, the rest of the 27 True Runes, the Sindar mystery, and perhaps the most interesting which is Harmonia, among others.
Speaking of Suikoden 3 manga, can someone provide a link where I could read it?

How long till somebody says the main char is a relation to/is Flik?
-
How long till somebody says the main char is a relation to/is Flik?
I doubt it. Than this would be the first Suikoden with a protagonist that doesn't have a true Rune.
Unless it's another spinnoff that doesn't have to do with main series. And Heros name seems to be Gino.
-
How long till somebody says the main char is a relation to/is Flik?
Someone said it already in this thread, when the first trailer came out lool.
But since this seems to be in a diferent world that is ruled out.
I like the characters, they dont look to bland or too cliché.
The hero never has a name ingame(besides 3 since we have 3 paths(5)), well they actually have but you can choose them at the start, so right now its apparently Hero, Gino is another character.
Should have posted the info too that was translated by the guys at Suikosource:
*Number of Players: 1/Wireless LAN Supported
*It is the tale of a young man who challenges the "Centennial Monster" which appears every 100 years and devours everything. The main character is sent 100 years into the past by a mysterious boy named Zephon.
*Character Info ・Main Character (I'm not bothering with the VAs, since that's already been taken care of): A swordsman from Telbe Village. His father died when he was a child. His mother, Signey, died in battle several years ago fighting the Holy Imperial Army.
Gino: A craftsman of magic stones from Telbe Village. He is Myura's younger brother and the main character's childhood friend. Because he's easily elated, he's often scolded by Myura.
Myura: A mage from Telbe Village. Gino's older sister. Ever since the main character lost both his parents, they have become like his real siblings.
Zephon: A mysterious boy who appeared before the main character when he took refuge in the fortress ruins and used the power to leap through time to guide them 100 years into the past.
Ducas: Commanding officer of the 4th division of the advance troops in the Ionian Holy Imperial Army. He has been dispatched to Telbe Village in order to subdue it.Stars
Hero: Tenkai (his parents are both dead apparently)
Myura: Tenei
Gino: Tentai
Ducas: Tenko
Zephon: TenkanJust noticed there seems to be a battle picture and it has only 4 characters, I hope we get to use 6, by the disposition of those 4 characters I assume we will be able to use 6, seems like we can fit another one in the left front side and one in the middle back looking at it.
-
More info 6 characters battle confirmed
Suikoden: The Woven Web of a Century follows a hero who has to fight a monster that emerges every hundred years. Torwald, one of your ancestors, fought the creature before and he teaches you how to fight after the main character travels through time. A screenshot from Dengeki PlayStation shows Suikoden: The Woven Web of a Century has six characters in battle.
The magazine also introduces Rolf, a close friend of Torwald, who took place in the fight against the hundred year monster too. Illia, a third character from the past, is studying medicine and acts like an older sister figure. Meiei is also shown and unlike the other character’s she is not human. She’s part of a bird-like race and has an independent personality. -
"New Suikoden title . . ."
At first I was like "This is going to be awesome!"
"(PSP)"
And then I was like "Boo!"
-
And even more info

Release date seems to be February 9.
-
Fuck yeah six characters battles.
Very pleased.
And you can tell Konami's serious about this game when they went out of their way to make an encyclopedia for it.
-
If Konami were serious about it, Konami would have made a console game.

I'm fine with a handheld game, wtf are you talking about, the best RPGs from this generation are from DS…
-

The DS remakes of console games from previous generations, sure.
-
The DS remakes of console games from previous generations, sure.
No the multiple rpgs that came out if you didn't play them though luck brah.
Pokemon, DQ monster joker, Golden Sun, Suikoden Tiekris, Nostalgia, Radian Historia are just a few examples.
-
Yeah, no.
Pokemon has run its course. Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 wasn't even that good. Golden Sun is fun for a handheld game, but it's nothing more than that, and the series has been on a decline since the first one, which was really good. Suikoden Tierkreis, which you couldn't even spell correctly, wasn't anything special. Nostalgia is the worst game you've mentioned. And Radiant Historia, yeah, I'll give you that. It was a good game. It's not the best RPG this generation, though, not even close.
Again, if Konami were series about it, the new Suikoden would have been a console game. It makes sense that it's not, though. There hasn't been a great Suikoden since _III_.
-
With greats arguments like its run its course, its not even that good, good handheld game but that it(even though I agree the first one was the better) and that is the worse one of the list(yes it is I am aware of that) and my spelling not being correct.
I am convinced!!!!
Your tastes don't represent the majority of people, I liked those games and I see that most of the fans of those series liked them.
You can't justify something with your tastes.
Give me a counter argument like a list of RPG from a console of this generation that are better that those and I'm talking about RPG of that setting, not ocidental action RPGs or something else.
Looking at Wii and PS3 their rpg resume is definetly not better that DS and XBox360 obviously isn't.
To me consoles had the best rpgs in the previows two generations(PSX and PS2) but in this generation nah and I don't feel biased at all since I don't give a crap which company makes what aslong as the games are good.
If you actually read the thread most of us including me wanted the series to be continued too but aslong as a new Suikoden game comes out and it isn't crap with the other game to me and many fans wasn't, I'm fine with it, maybe they have succes and atleast continue this one.
Don't forget that they FIRED their old Suikoden team, they hired Tri-ace to do Frontier Gate and this game apparently.
Like I said I can see the Tri-Ace not wanting to mess with the old games lore that was created by the old team and mess it up, therefore making fans whine that the series was ruined or something of that sort… that is mainly why I think we aren't getting a continuation of the main series at all in the future but we will see maybe if this has some success, they decide to continue the old series or like I said continue this one.
