Also why should we have to go out of our way to damage our books because of a companies constant mistakes? The whiteout argument is so damn cliche, surprised someone is still using it. I love how standing up for these issues use to be appreciated, but now it's grounds to be antagonized.

She's saying shut up because it's a tiresome argument that's stupid and pointless. It goes nowhere regardless of whether you shut up or not.

Also I quoted purist because there's more to being a purist than simple name changes that are inconsequential to pretty much the rest of the translations. The whiteout argument may be old but it still works with something that's being blown out of proportion.

Stephen, Alpha, and the printed volumes are so much better for the person who really tries to dive deep into every little sentence of the story. Which is basically all of us.

So that Big Mam fuck up that I actually ended up paying for was overlooked? Please, yes VIZ do a pretty good translation but there's plenty to improve upon.

From some of the posts I've been seeing here, there are still some people that refuse to read the VIZ version simply because of Zolo and Roguetown.

Viz has said repeatedly they wouldn't change it. Alex said that it could happen in a re-release later down the line. We should have campaigned for a Teach fix, but Viz has said repeatedly that won't change anything. It's a tired argument. It's been exhausted. Sixty volumes of complaining, ten years of complaining, and yet it hasn't been fixed. It's a tired argument. If you want a "Zoro" edition, then buy these current volumes so Viz knows there's a market for One Piece.

EDIT: Frankly, if it wasn't for a friend pointing out "Zolo", I wouldn't have remembered that's what he is called. Totally blocked it from my brain.

Buuhan, jackskellinghog et all, what you need to consider is if the messages you want to send to VIZ are even going to register in their minds. The sad fact is, neither buying the books nor not buying the books is going to change anything regarding Zoro/lo and the like for some time to come. If every single person stopped supporting the books today, what message would that send? Probably not "The only way these books will sell again is if we change Zolo back to Zolo!" More likely it would be something like "I guess people collectively and instantaneously got sick of this series. Better move the budget to more Naruto."

Vice versa, if every single person in the US bought all 60+ issues to date, twice, VIZ might say, "Hey! This series has really picked up! And Zoro being Zolo had no bearing on the matter at all; people just love swords and pirates!"

The only way things like this will ever, EVER, be changed is if OP becomes on par with Naruto in the States, and likely only once it finishes, VIZ goes ahead with those proper VizBig editions and has people like Stephen and Alexis in a position to suggest, for that fresh go-around, a change from outdated terms like Zolo, Roguetown and such. Whatever we do right now, Zoro will not be back for a very long time. BUT, only by buying the books now do we even have a chance of a difference between "a very long time" and "never".

Well those guys are idiots then, I've said on multiple occasions that I will support the official release through the channels provided, hence 60 volumes up on my shelf and me buying some of my favourite volumes in digital form and buying SJA.

I honestly couldn't believe it either,it isn't anything to get your panties in a bunch up for. Honestly when I read comments like that,what I'm reading "eh i wasn't going to buy it anyway" or there's no flames on the one piece logo for English book like the Japanese one ( whitebeard saga) RUINED FOREVER!!!

Its just so stupid, if it bothers you so much,just do whatever firecrouch said and get a damn marker! There are plenty of manga out there with worse issues

Obviously I don't intend for people to write on their manga,that they spent their hard earned money on. It was more of a means to an end.

But refusing to buy because of a minor inconsistency,which they've made pretty clear: isn't gonna change. Wont make them go back and fix it.

Anyway, I enjoyed today's chapter. It had classic One Piece crewmate humor. Can't wait for next week as today's was obviously a transitional chapter.

I rarely laugh at One Piece, but the scene where Luffy finds out about the new log pose made me laugh. Good chapter.

As for the others, Bakuman was good, Naruto was meh. I plan to catch up to Toriko so I can start reading that in Alpha.

On a side note, is Rise of the Yokai Clan any good? I might try to catch up with that series so that I can track with 5 out of 6 of the Shonen Alpha manga.

So, I looked at the free preview issue of Alpha to see if their reader would work on my internet and whatnot…

of course its the chapter 1 of the given series... but why are the color pages black and white? Obviously they just used to files from the printed volume, so its a laziness thing, I get that... but are the color pages from the current new chapters at least in color?

Bleach and Rise of the Yokai Clan had color title pages this week if that's what you mean (chp. 477 and 186 respectively). I didn't see anything in color last issue. I've yet to see panels that are in color.

Also Robby, vizmanga.com has Shonen Jump Alpha issue 0, which is free to read. It has chapters from the week One Piece 647 came out (not sure the exact date in Japan). That should give you a better idea than the issue that has all the chapter 1's.

To clarify, both those Bleach and Nura chaps had their color pages in Alpha, as well. So if it's simulcast, it should stay that way, but if it's pages from an actual novel, they'll probably be B&W since the Japanese volumes are such, as well as when the Alpha chaps are released in their respective volumes.

Dear MangaStream supporter,

It's with a heavy heart that I make the following announcement. MangaStream will no longer be releasing the following series:

• Naruto
• Bleach
• One Piece
• Hunter x Hunter
• Katekyo Hitman Reborn
• Claymore
• D.Gray-man

VIZ Media has demanded that we end our scanlation work for all of the above. This comes despite our best efforts to pursuade fans into supporting official distributors by being the only group to actively prevent an archive from forming on their website through the removal of chapters that are older than a couple weeks. They've succeeded in little more than invoking inconvenience to the community as their digital magazine missed the mark; it runs several issues behind and only features 3 of the above series. So long as their product continues to be slow, awkward and inferior to something a ragtag group of nobodies can churn out in a few hours - fans will continue to look to scanlation groups and aggregators for their weekly fix.

It's actually really sad to see MS dropping those series. One Piece might have been getting some better translations and better quality scans thanks to the larger fanbase; but as for most of the series on that list, MS was the best option out there for their fans.

Not really. Equivalents exist for the other series on that list that are at worst only a bit slower on average

Shonen Jump Alpha is Viz's new digital magazine that's only 2 weeks behind Japan (and the gap might shorten according to Viz). It's pricing is reasonable and the quality is great. Granted, it will never be as fast as mangastream as they translated leaked versions earlier than they were supposed to come out in Japan, but I think its fine to have a bit of patience

Are there any major HQ English groups out there at the moment? NULL is gone and they were always behind (with good reason) but it seems like MangaStream was the only English scan site out there doing releases (and they had watermarks). Even our release section contains primarily Italian releases.

Honestly; just for an example; I don't know any equivalents -slow or not- for KHR better than MS. I'm not trying to defy though, I respect your opinion. But Alpha is half way behind that series and that was just an example. I'm well aware that MS have their flaws in translations, but speed and quality-wise they were really the best fix for some titles on that list for the past 2 years because the other releases I saw were generally and unfortunately worse. I hope some better teams appear after this.

Now; I wouldn't mind paying for One Piece if they really went all-out against scanlation groups (though I really doubt they can actually prevent it), however if they're not up-to-date with other series I follow -like mentioned above, they're half way behind KHR just as an example- and I have to wait for months or even years until they catch up with them because they're taking scanlation teams down, I would be pissed. And no, my logic here is not "I'm paying for it, dammit"; it'd be because leaving many large fanbases out there with no option but to wait. For ridiculous long periods of time.

I see; I honestly hope you're right. I hadn't noticed MS being ballsy, or even that could be dangerous against Viz though They were really taking chapters down regularly and all… Anyway, these first couple of weeks might be though to find a good release for every title, but I'm sure new teams would appear.

Viz is stupid sometimes. SJ Alpha is 3 weeks behind….scans will continue. The problem is mangareader gets their Jump scans from Binktopia as well, which means we will not be getting Wednesday chapters anymore most likely. I'd say, expect a return to Thursday / Friday / Satruday chapters =/ Viz is too stupid to release that if people weren't up to date with One piece through scans NO ONE would have supported their 33 volume speed up of the series. People demanded the speed up because they knew how awesome One Piece is and bought the volumes for the same reason. One Piece is selling really well because of the online scan readers contrary to what Viz claims. This is an inconvenience, but new scan groups will rise up. Even then, Viz's Shonen Jump Alpha is not ideal. I do not care for Viz's online reader and some people just won't like reading Zolo every week (That's the only name change that still exists; It doesn't bother me, though I do prefer to read scans the first time then re-read Viz's translation). Viz should have followed Funimation's lead in getting stuff out at the same time as Japan....but they didn't. I agree with mangastream's statement entirely. The problem remains, who is going to scan One Piece now without Binktopia? Other scan groups are a bit inferior. It's a loss to weekly One Piece readers. No doubt Viz is doing this for the sake of SJ Alpha....but Alpha doesn't have Hunter x Hunter, KHR!, or several other series mentioned. I'm pretty annoyed that HxH is finally back and it's now going to be difficult to find scans.

This is coming from someone who has subscribed to the magazine since 2004, bought volumes 1 - 60, and CW 1&2. The only reason I've subscribed since like 2006 was for One Piece.

Unless Alpha is as fast as scans and contains all weekly series like HxH this type of move is just not going to be successful. Within a few months, hopefully another scan group will pick up the reigns and have chapters out by wednesday again.
