Usopp: a simple dream of being a 'brave warrior of the sea', even though he's cowardly/ feels inferior to the others and continously is coming up with new attacks and weapons/ a total BADASS at sniping and inventing/ eyelashes/ has a long nose (nickname: LongNose)/ the 'funny guy'/ Super sexy
Rock Lee: a simple dream of becoming an 'excellent ninja' even if he can't use ninja or illusionary techniques/ feels inferior to the others and is continously improving his taijuitsu/ a total BADASS at taijuitsu/ eyelashes/ has large eyebrows (nickname: 'Geji mayu' or Fuzzy Eyebrows/thick brows in eng.)/ funny/ Super Cute

Nami reminds me so much like Lina Inverse in the sense that both are money hungry, and both get the upper hand with other male characters in the show.
Smoker remdinds me a hell of alot of Zenigata from Lupin. They both chase after criminals, but both have helped or been helped by said criminals. On Zenigata's account multiple times.

More girls fangirl the San-Nin (Luffy, Zoro and Sanji) for obvious reasons… And I bet that Ace, Smoker and lots of others have significant number of female fans.
The thing that draws people to Usopp is his character, unique personality and compassion. Not to mention that he can be uber bad-ass when sniping, inventing, tricking people and lying! Well, probably not the last one.
About the impression that Usopp has a lot of fangirls, I think that prominent (by that I mean actively involved) members like taboo, CosmicDebris and Jadiesama plays a major role in this, especially in AP Forums. XD Not to mention Ranier, tengu and funkyfunkyusopp, all members of the Captain Usopp LJ Com! (Ranier's the manager there, go visit www.livejournal.com/~captain_usopp ! And read the rules, too.
Many other Anime characters have similar traits to Usopp; boasting but actually being weak and cowardly. But Oda-sensei gives more depth to this kind of character than any mangaka has ever done before. The Water 7 arc proves that.

I think it's really just an anomaly of this messageboard. All the fangirls gather around here and give the illusion that there's a huge fangirl base because we're so fanatical and do a lot of fanart, fanfiction and create websites and LJ communiteis. XD It seems in the overall fanbase we are in the tiny minority. Do a search on the internet and you'll find tons more Zoro and Sanji stuff. Especially Zoro/Sanji.

Usopp is definately my favorite out of the main crew… I think his imperfections make him a much more lovable character (at least to me). It shows that he is one of the most human and flesh-and-blood of the characters and that gives him room to grow and mature into what he ultimately wants to be... a great warrior.
Yes, its kind of hard to search through all the Sanji/Zoro on the web to find anything on Usopp. Probably another one of the reasons that I like this place so much.

That's probaby true. ^^ A-freakin-LOT of artsy fartsy people that I've met that have seen OP say they like Usopp the most. xD Plus, he has such a colorful character that you have so much more artistic freedom with him. ^^ With a character like Zoro, you can only draw him training, fighting, or sleeping (if you want to stay in character) but with Usopp you can pretty much do anything.

sanji is a lot like kakashi: the hidden left eye, the coolness, they're both perverts in their own way.
i agree that luffy is a lot like goku. he also reminds me of ichigo and naruto (all 4 of these characters are innocent guys who can kick a lot of ass, and they're all the main characters to their animes

Arlong = A bigger, slightly more tyranical Demona from Gargoyles without wings. They both hate humans, although for different reasons, and they're blue. yeah that's a pretty weak point for comarison, but, eh, they still think they're better than everyone else.

I think Demona's a poor match, actually. I don't see Arlong really having either the will or desire to wipe humanity off the earth that Demona has. He'd rather see mankind alive and happy, as long as they bowed whenever he walked past.
If you had to map him to the Gargoyles universe, I'd almost say he's more of a Xanatos– manipulative, flexes his wealth and power, possibly a bit over-convinced of his own power, gets underlings to do most of the heavy lifting.
If you stir Arlong and Morgan together, it might give the bloodthirstiness necessary to match Demona.
Hatchi seems like Broadway though, if you want to draw the comparison... not the sharpest blade in the armory, but loyal and good for comic relief.

Luffy = Defiantly Goku from DB.
Zoro = I'd say Piccolo Jr, mainly because both of them have some (for what of a better phrase) "badass characteristics" but also care about their allies.
Sanji = I'd say Kakashi or a younger less perverted version of Roshi. He also has a lot in common with SK's Ryu.

For some reason, I think the Triangle of Luffy/Zoro/Nami is like the triangle of Haru/Musicka/Elie from Rave Master. Haru is the leader of the group, Musicka has a connection with Haru that is similar to Luffy/Zoro, and Nami and Elie sort of share the role of big sister of the group. So… here's my comparison "chart":
Monkey D. Luffy = Haru Glory
Rorunoa Zoro = Musicka
Nami = Elie
Chopper = Plue
Usopp = Griff
Sanji = ?
Smoker = Lett (?)
Morgan = KingThat's all I got, but it sort of seems accurate to me.

Interesting. I'd say Sanji is also Griff, mainly because both characters have a thing for Nami/Elie.
