This kind of thing is more conductive of trailer, but at the same time is more in the pedigree of an echo.
Super Smash Bros

Dude you will incur source gaming's wrath upon us. They ask to never post the full translation .
-
oh snap, that is my bad. edited.
-
Well it would be nice if the original website weren't down. But since I read it before the edit, did he just say game music is objectively good?
-
They said in Twitter that it was back up.
And that weird blurb about music just went over my head some artistry platitudes, I was more interesting on the number of MegaMan and Castlevania songs, and how the composers picked them.
-
He basically said there's no bad music in a beloved game.

Interesting to compare translations. Reminds me that most of these translations are very imperfect. I'm curious to see the Japanese source but it seems fairly obvious to me that the translation you posted is rougher but more literal, while the other one is polished but took a lot of liberties. In any case I'll have to disagree about separating soundtracks from games as if they're above questions of taste.

There will be at least one character trailer, I'm sure of that much.
Yeah, it may not be a Smash Direct, but we know that Sakurai has the intent of revealing every character before launch. There can only be so many shots to reveal all remaining newcomers before the launch in December. There could be one more general Direct if we're lucky, and likely one more Smash specific Direct after this before launch.
-
I still can't even believe we're getting a direct tomorrow. I was hilariously wrong, but I guess I can't complain XD
Also, the release date for the Smash Bros Pro Controller randomly got moved up to September 28th. Direct related? No one knows. Guess we'll find out!
-
I have to work during the Direct. Might take a 15 when it's on, but I have to find out of the Smash stuff is at the start or end of the Direct.
-
A typhoon and an earthquake… I really hope they get as many of those 30+ trapped people out safely as possible...
-
An observation I made
At least 5 other characters in the Everyone is Here mural that appear to be interacting with non-existent characters.
Dark Samus
!
Dark Samus is clearly preparing to fire at someone beneath her but she is but she is behind Shulk and Pacman which means there is no one beneath her.
Bowser Jr.
!
Jr. appears to be spouting fire but he is way behind Ganon (fire is clipping through ganons arm) so obviously no one there (unless Ganon is hiding them lol)
Ice Climbers (specifically Popo)
!
Simons chain is clipping through Popo's rump which means Nana and Popo are ahead of him and Simon is ahead of Dr.Mario and G+W which means Popo is hammering down on no one.
Mii Gunner
!
Mii Gunner I think is one of the farthest back and yeah clearly no one there that she is preparing to fire at. as no one in her vicinity is as far back as she is
And lastly the Inklings appear to be looking at someone but all of the characters in front of her sight are behind her and she appears to be looking at the same alignment she is or further ahead of her.
Daisy is a sixth one but she is a little more talked about already (at least on Smashboards) but she also seems to be interacting with a non existent character.
Possible areas for at least 5 other new characters and echos
-
Or maybe they're all just posing randomly and Sakurai/Art Director intentionally gave directions to the art department in charge of this mural to make sure newcomers have relatively isolated poses so that the mural can look ok and not out of place when they're removed from it for secrecy.
If anything I think it's more interesting to look for white space. The segment to the left of Sonic, for example, has a lot of space where you could easily place another character without obscuring any of the others. It's possible that Sonic himself might get repositioned there to make room for other characters in that area, or that if we have a second Sonic character it would appear there.
-
The mural was moved alot after the death of Luigi.

So when do you guys think we will get the next smash update?
-
So when do you guys think we will get the next smash update?
Technically we get them every week, but maybe a new fighter this thursday's direct.
-
Is the direct confirmed for Thursday?
-
Is the direct confirmed for Thursday?
There was a Splatoon 2 Datamine, but I guess we'll only know tomorrow.
-
I mean we'll be spoiled today of what was in the Smash direct.
-
Most of the content of the direct was already leaked, third party games, titles of upcoming Nintendo games, "out right now" demos.
Only thing missing is the smash reveal, and whatever the online service will claim to do, but fail.
-
Wow. Was it leaked this week? Because leaking a content of a direct that got delayed because of an earthquake sounds kind of a dick move.
-
Most of it "leaked" either on Nintendo's website or other places that were probably ready to reveal the info after the direct, and weren't ready when it got canceled.
To be fair delaying a global Nintendo Direct containing lots of info pertinent to the current month (online services, Splatoon, etc) because of a relatively minor disaster in a remote area of Japan is kind of a dick move.
-
Things getting "leaked" is a weird way to put it.
Nintendo accidentally revealed the title of the yoshi game, but nothing else.
Third party companies did their own thing eventually, like Mega Man 11 having their demo and FFXV pocket w.e. among many others. That's not really leaking as much as Nintendo's delay not working with their timeline. For sure there's still stuff they wanted to talk about that we still don't know about. For one, the delayed Splatoon 2 weapon update is for a reason so we need to find out what that is. Same goes for the Smash announcement we know was supposed to happen. Same goes for the Yoshi trailer we know we were supposed to see. Who knows what else there was. And yea, there's also any info they might have wanted to communicate about the online service.
-
Pretty sure we know what this means.
(I was tempted to do a Pinky and the Brain reference there but I refrained)
-
-
Louie confirmed as Olimar echo :ninja:
-
Isabelle got in and she is not an Echo!
-
Isabelle in Smash! In probably the cutest direct I have seen for Smash.
-
She's got the Pocket, the balloons, the racoons building a house final smash, but also she's got a lot of different moves as well. She is in the Lucas tier of clones.
-
Villager voice My secretary
-
My head canon is that Nintendo referenced this video when Isabelle briefly considered becoming a better mayor than Villager.
-
There was a moment when I thought Tom Nook was getting in.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Isabella on the smash picture is between Little Mac and Cloud.
Isabella is labeled 68, and is not an echo.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Isabella's final smash is the same as Villagers, but instead of a house, its the Mayor's Office.
-
I have been informed that Isabelle has fought Rathalos before, meaning that she is more experienced in this matter than Solid Snake.
-
Well that was the dumbest and most boring character reveal I've ever seen. Faith in cool upcoming characters fading. At this rate the last two are Bandana Dee and Geno and Sakurai will officially be without testicles.
-
I like Isabelle, and I figured she'd be in the game somewhere. Surprised she was NOT an echo (or semi-clone like a Luigi or Falco?).
But I know this surely isn't the last. Very likely one more Smash-themed direct to touch on the "Spirits" mode, with a newcomer(s) drawing in a lot more buzz. It was a very safe kinda pick, but she's been in the radar all the same.
-
I don't mind the character being in, but that was extremely underwhelming. So many smash trailers are about Nintendo characters interacting and then BAM, reveal. In this one it was just reading and super bland music, then a letter we all knew the contents of, and even the gameplay music and trailer was just…... meeeeeh.
Compounded by the fact the fanbase has been blue balled for an extra week made this probably one of the worst payoffs, except perhaps for actual fans of isabelle.
(Honestly, I also on further thought don't like Isabelle as a character much. She has the secretary syndrome of having to essentially do the mayor's job while NOT being the mayor, and instead of having aspirations or being ambitious she instead constantly defaults to the player and is happy-go-lucky about supporting your incompetent lazy-ass, in a perfect representation of what male managers expect of their female subordinates. Perhaps I read too much into her character, but when there's so many cool, strong women I'm dying to see in Smash, like Elma and Dixie, Isabelle is just really hard to care about.)
But hey, it'll be lulzy to see Isabelle fighting Ridley I guess.
-
I mean if she were an Echo I'd just shrug, sure why not for the fans. But she isn't.
-
Isabelle shall bathe in the blood of the games that keep the Mayor away from her.
-
I forget, doesn't Villager's final smash also have the Nooks build a house on their foes?
-
I forget, doesn't Villager's final smash also have the Nooks build a house on their foes?
Isabelle builds City Hall, much more powerful.
-
-
Ah, good ol' communism-espousing Isabelle, eh…oh, Count Mario already posted that video.
-
-
@Cyan:
Funny how he's still in his good ol' naked apron for the Final Smash:
!
Anyway, I'll admit I was a bit let down at first, though I think that was the extra week's wait inflating my expectations a bit. When I sat and looked at her again, Isabelle does look like she brings more of the AC flavor that even Villager didn't get to cover: the fishing pole, digging for Gyroids, the party poppers. She looks fun to use, and will probably be great for younger players who may not get the technical side of the game yet.

-Three of the most wanted characters ever are already confirmed in Smash Ultimate.
-103 stages including some of the most requested returning characters.
-Unbelievable amounts of detail and love put into the game.-Game confirms one character that IS popular with its large fanbase at the end of a Direct that wasn't focused on Smash.
-"MOST DISAPPOINTED REVEAL! REST OF THE REVEALS ARE GOING TO SUCK!"We don't deserve this game or Sakurai. Not everything is for you. Fuck, I haven't even played a game with King K Rool in it, and I was hyped for him.

You do realize that saying one trailer was disappointing doesn't mean everyone suddenly hates the game? Like, I get there's a lot of people being legitimate, entitled jerks about this, but this sort of stuff puts everyone who was disappointed in the same boat and comes off as dismissive of people who have a different opinion.
No game is perfect, and pointing out the bits that aren't doesn't mean people are shitting on the great things about it. Black and white opinions like these are the ones that kill actual conversation since it makes it so there's no gray between complete fanboying/fangirling or complete, toxic, hate.
-
If you're disappointed in the trailer because you weren't interested in the character, that's fine. That's not the issue I'm bringing up. I wasn't referring to you. It's an issue acting like this reveal somehow ruins the game and future reveals, as if nothing else about this game is going to be exciting. And there are plenty of people acting this way.
Plenty of people didn't care about Simon or Richter (many didn't even know where they are), but at least had the decency to go, "That's fine. Lot of people like Castlevania." If anything, that reveal had the benefit of leagues of MORE information following it.
This wasn't a Smash Direct. This was a Nintendo Direct. Smash was a bullet point in the Direct.
