Hahaha, I love some of the jokes in this. My favorites:
"Daisy - Hi! I'm Daisy!"
"Emmeryn - Dives into battle!"
"The Groose is Loose!"

"Windows Crashes The Party". Brilliant.
What the hell happened to this thread!?!?!? lol
These two are some of my favourites
Kinda got the impression of Mewtwo there =3
And in today's picture. What is Pit using? Don't remember the weapon from Uprising.

Watch them put oshawot "shrugs".
This E3 gave us so much fantastic information on Smash! It just keeps on coming as well.
Looking through Sakurai's quotes the only cuts I can see happening are Pichu, Roy, Dr Mario and Snake. Mewtwo is almost guaranteed at this point. They are "considering" him, my apples. They've made their decision.
I kinda got the feeling that Toon Link may have been cut. Especially since he appears in the new level

It's the Upperdash Arm, and it was in the original trailer too. I'm hoping this means he uses different weapons for each of his attacks…?
we know he uses the guardian orbitars as well. I imagine sakurai will make him use at least 1 from each of the new weapon types
I can easily see Ike, Lucario, Toon Link, ROB, Wolf, Lucas and Snake being the ones dropped.
As for Mewtwo, I think what he said actually goes to show he's very likely. His appearance is key in the most recent pokemon movie, so I can see him and his new awakened form being quite popular right now.
Brawl veteran cuts have not been confirmed. It is possible that all Brawl veterans return even with this comment. I think that if there are Brawl cuts, they will be limited to Snake, Sonic and Toon Link.
Stop saying Snake!
I don't want to even entertain that thought!

Talks about character customization. Randomness is still in.
Perhaps the best way to think of it is: it's not the strength of the attacks that change–their power--but the directionality of those attacks will change with customization.
Tripping, a seemingly random mechanic that causes fighters to slip and fall during battle, introduced an element of randomness into each fight. But while tripping is out, randomness is something Sakurai feels is still an important part of the Smash Bros. series.
"When you boil things down to pure competition, it's not always the most engaging experience. For example, think about the 50-meter dash. This is something that really comes down to speed. You see a lot of people progressing in a linear direction, and the person who is fastest in the beginning is quite often going to be the winner. It's predictable–and while it is pure competition, it's not necessarily engaging in the same way as events with unpredictability. As developers, we have to think about all of these circumstances when designing fighting games."
For example, I like to think of Smash as a four-player battle royal action game. You'll notice that's a lot longer than saying it's a fighting game, because 'fighting game' is a completely different label. You can talk about a fighting game or an action game or a racing game, but as soon as you define your game specifically in those terms, you start limiting your creative range because you're thinking of the limitations of that genre.
I can easily see Ike, Lucario, Toon Link, ROB, Wolf, Lucas and Snake being the ones dropped.
Sakurai's statement is not limited to Brawl only. He did say that every Smash character would be impossible to bring back.
This means that the likes of Falco (who is actually less unique than Wolf), Ice Climbers, Dr. Mario, Young Link, Roy, Pichu, Mewtwo and even Jigglypuff can also be affected.
While Sakurai seems to think 50m dash is boring, what about 1500m races? there's an element of "just be fast and you'll win", sure, but there's also the knowledge and timing of when you make your move, jockeying for position, etc.
and that's what I think most fighting games come down to, rather than just a mad dash to land an infinite-hit combo or whatever.
so while I understand Sakurai wanting to appeal to the "silent majority", I sure hope he doesn't make things even more (for the lack of a better word) casual. Hell, even Melee was fine. No one complained that Melee was "too complex" for them to get into. I've never met a person who wasn't able to have fun with that game, to one extent or another. But then Brawl kind of cut off the higher plane of the game, which alienated a (small) number of people, but didn't actually make things any more inclusive for anyone.
I still trust the guy to put out a fun game that'll keep me entertained for a hundred hours, but I put closer to a thousand into Melee, and I'd like a game that captured me like that agai.

With Sonic: Lost Worlds coming out around(ish) when this will be out, I think Sonic's safe.
Ike will probably get axed in favor of Chrom. Which sucks because I like Ike.
Brawl is definitely an easier game to get into than Melee, at least from a competitive standpoint. I actually like Sakurai's mentality going into this. He knows what he wants from the game and is working off of that rather than trying to fit into a mold. it's faster than Brawl without the horrible mechanics of Melee, it will probably be the best Smash yet.
Personally I liked Brawl more. Melee was the more competitive one and in terms of that had much more intense battles (even with me using Mewtwo and never getting into wavedashing), but I found Brawl so much more strategic. Snake and Diddy Kong, for example, brought so much to the table in terms of how to control space in a stage and battles against them became more about mind games and placement than about combos. Then add in characters like Olimar and Pokemon Trainer and the variety is even greater.
Also, having tons of friends who were never super competitive, it was easier for them to join in a match of Brawl without killing themselves. Melee is a game I can only play with dedicated Smash fans, while Brawl I can play with all friends, girlfriend and family. So I really respect Sakurai going for that approach because in the end, when I got into the original smash I was also a hopeless noob that would always ground pound with Yoshi, and if the game hadn't been so approachable I would have never gotten so deeply dedicated to this series.

!
Guess that's one campaign slogan people will be reviving soon.
while i'm absolutely thrilled Mega Man is in the game, and no doubt i'll be learning him up and down, I'm hoping Sonic will be back, i'd say he has a 75% chance of being in the game. But I won't truly know til he's confirmed.

Considering Nintendo & Sega's partnership still going strong, Sonic WILL be back IMO. :)
I had no problem with tripping in Brawl, but I know a lot of people didn't like it so it's good that it's removed. In terms of randomness though, that's one of the best things about Smash Bros. to me that I like: The randomness. When every match has those moments that you don't expect and catch you off-guard, sometimes in a hilarious way.
One of my memories of Brawl was me and my friend playing in the Corneria Melee stage; He hit me with a smash attack and I was gonna get K.O.'d, but then I get blasted by an Arwings' laser shot mid-travel and I then start heading in the opposite direction, getting K.O.'d in the blink of an eye. We literally had to pause the game for about a minute because we were laughing so hard at that moment. We never expected that at all. lol :D
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Plus, having the game speed in the middle between Melee & Brawl sounds good to me; Would appease to all Smash players in a good way.
With the possibility of characters being cut though, I have given some thought about this:
Toon Link will get the axe most likely. It's fun to play as WW Link, but he's literally the same as the original. He may get replaced with someone like Ghirahim or Vaati.
Falco I think may go, but Wolf most likely will stay. Wolf is more unique, he just needs a few changes_(Maybe to his special attacks, but DEFINITELY his Final Smash.)_
I agree with Noqanky that Mewtwo will come back seeing his return in the new Pokemon anime movie and Pokemon X & Y; Taking back his old spot from Lucario is a possibility, though I hope both will somehow be able to make it.
With Lucas he has some moves that are different, but he usually plays similar to Ness. Seeing as Ness is also one of the original 12, Lucas could take a backseat.
Ike could be replaced with Chrom from Awakening, but he could stay as well. Hard to tell with this character.:wassat:
R.O.B. & Snake I have no idea what to think; I love playing as Snake in Brawl but I have this feeling that he may not come back this time around…
Well I liked the original smash better than the fast and crazy melee and the random and floaty brawl.
I could predict what my actions would cause with very good accuracy, something that I could barely do in melee and brawl because it's mechanics.
I understand the lack of appeal for twelve characters and super grabs, but I would have been happy if it was taken as the starting point on any of the sequels rather than being ignored in favor of melee.
I really think we will have 3 Fire Emblem characters.
The only characters I can see being cut right now : R.O.B. (not popular), Snake (MGSV not being released on WiiU) and PK Trainer (probably one of the characters they are having trouble making work on 3ds).
Gaius in 19º sweet.
Just out of curiosity, which developers have expressed interest in getting their character into Smash Bros.? Just figured I'd ask to help narrow down the possibilities for third party characters - Hideo Kojima and Yuji Naka both expressed interest in getting their character into Melee, though their inclusions were pushed back to Brawl, and both Yoshinori Ono and Keiji Inafune wanted to see Mega Man in Smash.
I'm particularly interested to see who's wanted among people at Namco - I know Sakurai said that Namco characters won't get special priority, but we all know that one of them is going to get in. I know there are probably some long shots whose developers still expressed interest, such as Travis Touchdown from No More Heroes or Bayonetta, but I'd think it would be neat to see who's interested so there's some idea of what to expect.
I have a feeling that I'm the only guy who don't want Pac-Man to be playable.
one of the higher ups in the tales series wanted llyod irving in smash and i think he's working on smash
Pac-Man is really boring is all
He's probably the only video game icon that can safely be said "go home Pac-Man, nobody cares". His modern/cabinet art design especially is just yawn inducing. He's just not a character, he's a sprite.

Never going to happen. (as in being removed)
I don't think sakurai would ever remove any of the original 12 characters
I really think we will have 3 Fire Emblem characters.
- Marth is obvious.
- Ike is popular (proof) and is not a clone so I doubt he will be cut.
- FE:Awakening was a big success so a representative is quite likely (probably Chrom but it could be Lucina to add a new female character).

What is that magazine in the link? It kind of surprises me to see Kid Icarus being so popular (even though Palutena should be higher than Viridi and Pittoo, but w.e.) …
Also, who are 12 and 18?
Only problem I have with that ranking is Waluigi being an option. I'm one of those people who think Waluigi has no place in this game at all.
As for Namco, the problem I have with Pac-Man is the difficulty in making him a diverse, usable character. Lloyd Irving is the other really popular/likely option. Frankly, I don't mind either of these.
What does Pac-Man do again? Eat things. Gee, there sure are no characters in SSB that can do that…
Exactly, the canibalism quota is already met.

Regular, Diet, or Remix :P @Wagomu:

I don't recall him being able to do that in every game though just like that cute pink blob whose name I can't remember and who never smiles in his pictures at least when they're taken by American photographers anyway.
Pac-Man has even tried to be rebooted a few times to failure right? Not exactly the best character to put in.

Chrom or Lucina would be perfect new reps.
But I'm actually wondering about how Princess Zelda will be done in this game; Will they keep the Zelda/Sheik combo or change it up a bit?
It's possible that Zelda could be done in her Skyward Sword design, with her wearing the Robe of the Goddess. She of course would still use her magic techniques and specials, but instead of transforming into Sheik, Impa would show up to take over.

If we're splitting hairs on characters picks neither were Wolf & Jigglypuff but we got them anyway.
Something I honey-badgered to show who Namco can use as a representative.
Also, who are 12 and 18?
12 : Hatsune Miku
18 : Kirino (Inazuma Eleven Go)
I didn't manage to find the source of this poll. Just wanted to use it to show that Ike is still popular in Japan.

Huh, just looked them up and they're both surprisingly stupid suggestions. Come on Japan.
Been watching the developer direct and videos and went ahead and compiled the music confirmed to be in the game
3DS:
Smash Bros. Melee Theme (Battlefield)
Gerudo Valley (Gerudo Valley stage)
Realm Overworld - LoZ Spirt Tracks (Spirit Tracks stage)
Main Theme - Nintendogs (Nintendogs stage)
Main Theme - Super Mario 3D Land (Super Mario 3D Land stage)
Wii U:
Animal Crossing GCN Main Theme (City Folk stage)
Dr. Wily's Castle 8-bit (Dr. Wily's Castle?)
Dr. Wily's Castle Remix (Dr. Wily's Castle)
(not on youtube yet, but on Mega Man's reveal video 00:54 onwards:
Wii Fit/Wii Fit Plus Yoga (Wii Fit stage?)
Unknown song (Wii Fit stage)
Can't identify it or find it … sounds like the music you'd hear while chasing chickens
Ballad of the Goddess (Skyloft)
It bears noting that the Smash Bros. Ring stage seems to have no music, just crowd cheering. I like to think it's because adding the punch-out music would have been too obvious:
I have a feeling that I'm the only guy who don't want Pac-Man to be playable.
Fear not I don't want him in either, especially since they're rebooting him with a tv show/new game,
Along with Sonic, I'd like to see little mac get updated to full character status. Just want to see what ol' Sakurai can do with the little titan
I still don't know why Little Mac hasn't been a standard playable character since day one. He's one of Nintendo's oldest recurring characters, and from a game series that's about fighting in the first place no less. You'd think he'd be an obvious choice.
