Today's lynch is of the utmost importance because as far as I can tell, it's the only way to move the game forward. No night phase, no limit for the day to end.

Indeed. In my mind, I felt that the first lynch of this nightless game would end up taking some time to come about. With no deadline we would have free reign to bring the level of discussion that a Day Four might have.

Towns have grown accustomed to the D1 lynch being random or less-serious, due to limited time and discussion. We no longer have that hurdle, so I would like to explore a longer D1, personally.

24 hours is a fair time constraint. But I do not think we will need such a device. We should take advantage of the lack of structure rather than impose structure where there is none.

With this setup there is no need to rush. However, I do recognize that the opposite holds true as well-there is no need to wait. I will act as I think best until then. (As stated in my response to Foolio)

Also to clarify, my vote wasn't entirely purposeless, i used an old gag as an angle to ask Shuhan a question. Just saying.

I was prepared for a NL wagon. I can see some merits in not taking a risk with so many unknowns. I am of the opposite opinion, however, preferring to take the chance to lynch. Especially if we can do so with impunity.

That is what will most likely happen. But that is another reason to keep the day (and discussion) going. This will ensure that everyone does get to talk. With our current configuration, Mafia can't just loll about waiting for the clock to expire. If someone's going to die, it will be by the will of others, and for no other reason.

Lurking in a nightless setup is tantamount to active opposition.

For a lynch to happen, it will require the most votes not the majority of the votes. If 4 people vote to have a person lynched and the rest of the votes are scattered among the rest of the townspeople, the person with the most votes will be lynched. The lynch will require the most votes not the majority of the votes

Actually no, in mafia lynches require the majority of remaining players to win. Otherwise we would require everyone to place a vote and that doesn't happen all the time.

I suppose it all depends on what actually happens in those 72 hours. I don't think length of time will necessarily improve D1 if we have all of the same mindsets as usual ("oh we don't have any deaths to examine and cue off of," "oh we don't know about powers," and now we already have "oh let's see if mafia can even kill"). I don't care about a long D1 if it actually starts becoming productive to continue the discussion.

What's the benefit of no-lynching here? We'll find out if the mafia can kill regardless of whether or not we lynch. Would that knowledge actually change your game plan for day 1? If so, how? We're going to need to lynch scum regardless, and we're going to find out what happens between days regardless.

Possibly most importantly here, though, is that the rules say information will be divulged day by day "as it becomes necessary." Perhaps more worrisome is that my role PM says that things may change. If this means the setup could possibly have rule changes along the way, then the last thing I want to do is sit by waiting to empirically deduce them as a means of informing lynches.

What a beautifully scattered collection of votes. This is interesting; no one has tried to really start a bandwagon yet. Is this because of the lack of time limit? Or lack of cooperation on the Mafia's part? I think it would be in the Mafia's best interest to end the day as soon as possible. That makes it interesting that no one has reacted to my invitation to speeden things up yet; maybe the Mafia are among the ones lurking.

Both Harvady and Kitsune have voiced interest in a No Lynch-wagon. A safe choice, but I don't know if anything's going to happen when we don't lynch. Deaths equal answers, so I would prefer a Lynch to a No-Lynch.

Harvady, what would you rather have: a quick lynch, a quick No-Lynch, or a really long day resulting in either?

Lurkers are always bad. The fact that it's a newbie is just a coincidence, and I pointed it out somewhat sarcastically because it makes me seem like I'm picking on the new guy. It's not a random vote. There is no such thing as a good lurker. Lurking scum cannot be scum-hunted and lurking townies might as well not exist. The beginning of the game is the ideal time to eliminate that particular scourge since there will not necessarily be a better plan yet, and it won't be a risky decision in terms of mylo/lylo etc. The strongest counter-argument is that maybe they were just busy for D1 or whatever. But if we're going to end up waiting around 72 hours or more, it's not longer a valid excuse.

I'd like a long day ending in a lynch. We've reached the 48-hour mark, and the discussion is getting on. We're on track as far as I'm concerned.

As I explained in several earlier posts, I want to lynch because I want to find out more about the setup, and because lynching will provide us with some information.
The best we can do on Day 1 is at least have everyone talk once. So far that hasn't happened. And with wintergt just checking in now, I want to hear him out for a while first. So right now I'd like this Day to last a little longer.

Wintergt, glad to see you join the party. Did you read up on the game yet? What do you think about what's been said so far? (not every little thing, but general tendencies)

We've managed to avoid speculation for the most part, but there have been a few concerns. Mrs. Iceburg and Kitsune Inferno come to mind.

I couldn't guess for sure what our setup is, as there's evidence that things may change as we go along. Another reason to take our time (Or dive head-first, if you prefer).

At this juncture we still have six votes out:

Kitsune's playin' the odds with his vote on NL. I understand where he's comin' from, but I like me some lynches. I expected more people to jump on the wagon, so that's me surprised. With a nightless game, most people are taking it easier. It's quickly becoming apparent that the pace is for us to set, and I'm doin' the best I can to keep it up.

Foolio's got his vote on an absentee. Funny how votes seem to bring people to light. Doesn't seem to be workin' fer me though. His vote was on Red and then it moved to winter. Hopefully with winter's arrival, my wagon will see a bit more action. I don't see anything wrong with his approach. He's the most pro-active voter thus far, so I wouldn't object to his third wagon shift.

Red Hawk countered with a vote on Foolio. Straight-forward reaction, I wonder if he'll push for it. Seems like a bad move for town, what with Foolio's track record for today.

I voted Shuhan. I'm thinking I won't be alone in votin' him.

The usual (to put in context, I have been playing WW for years on a poker forum with the same group of people). Pressure people, get information. We almost have to lynch the inactive(s) or really low content posters, for both practical and meta-game reasons. Get as many voting patterns and opinions flowing as we can which can be used in later days when we get more and more information.

No. There are a few rare instances of game flow where limiting the day can be a good thing but not here.

Are you just assuming it's demotivating people? I don't see it as that big of an issue. Are you saying there is no other reason to vote him besides "preserving the rhythm?"

Really it just comes down to risk tradeoff. We either risk taking out a townie at the hope of taking out a mafia or we don't risk taking out a townie, but we don't take out a mafia either. A no lynch just buys more time, because it keeps us further away from the Mafia's wincon, at the tradeoff of not really actively moving towards our own wincon. A No Lynch is strictly a defensive move.

Which may not be necessary at this stage. The only way we won't have a mislynch is if there are 4 mafia. Which I highly doubt. So the No Lynch option isn't totally attractive.

This is day 1. We have no "real" basis for a lynch, other then lack of posting from players, and the ever so rare slip up, which I feel hasn't appeared on this day yet.

The best course of action is to lynch one of the "lurkers". They aren't helping with the discussion, and could very well be doing it for a reason. I want to vote for whoever doesn't post at all, but if everybody eventually posts, it will come down to who has contributed the least for me.

It's been a while with winter, but I see he's being productive so it came down to you and trapped. I don't want to go after trapped yet so it leaves me no choice but to go with you. I simply think we have a mislynch and if I have any see in it, I simply think it should be you. :)

Wintergt and Foolio start bickering, causing wintergt to drop his suspicion on Foolio.

Kitsune changes his mind on No Lynching, and rather than going after a lurker, he chooses to vote vorlianis. He doesn't give a direct reason for this, except naming some reasons not to lynch the other three yet. He openly states that he only wants to follow an already existant bandwagon (although all have only 1 vote so far).

Harvady immediately joins Kitsune on this 2 vote-bandwagon, despite his earlier call to lynch a lurker (Shuhan or wintergt when neither had posted yet). He doesn't name any reasons for this, except his plan to lynch Shuhan having failed.

Galaxy 9000 expresses his suspicion of the vorlianis bandwagon.

Foolio expresses his desire to lynch a lurker, and chooses trappedolphin.

Side notes: after a quick post count I did yesterday, vorlianis is on a tied 3d place of most active posters. The "wagon" on vorlianis was started by trappedolphin in her first (and only) post, most probably completely at random.

Thus far my observations of the last couple of posts, in which the game took a rather quick turn.

If Kitsune and Harvady are Town, then I don't understand this conspiracy to lynch vorlianis at all. Taking a closer look at vorlianis, I can only see some feeble reasons to call him suspicions. First, he hasn't voted for anyone yet. Secondly, he hasn't taken any clear or straightforward stances yet, has mostly been asking everyone questions, changing his suspicions. Something that could either point to an indecisive townie, or a careful mafia. Strangely, none of the people who voted for him have previously addressed him on this, or named these as reasons for suspecting him. To be fair, they haven't named any reasons at all.

I'm doubting whether or not to leave my vote on trappedolphin, or change to Red Hawk. From earlier games, I know trapped can be an active player, and I think her inactivity now is not a deliberate choice. I'm willing to give her a chance to turn up again. When it comes to Red Hawk however, I don't know him, and for all I know, he might ditch us for the majority of the game. So, that being said, I'll make up my mind now...

Here is where I am at. Vor is town. Kitsune I am confused about. Some fishy vibes I picked up in his posts, but it can also have other explanations. It's difficult to say because I don't know anyone's personality and normal (town) behavior. Mrs. Iceburg can also still be scum, but less so than kitsune.

It is quite likely at least one of the bad guys is hiding in the low postcount group.

So i haven't done enough? In comparison to trapped or Red Hawk i'd say i've done more than adequate, at least that's what i think. Both have been MIA for 2-3 days or so. To put my problem with your reason for voting bluntly, i don't really get why you consider me to be a more worthwhile vote than others while some are basically lurkers at this point. And you do consider merit of participation for your reason for who to vote since you opted not to vote for Foolio for that reason.

I know trapped has been around and has had several opportunities to pitch in and she hasn't so i'll go with her wagon

My vote for Vor was because I wanted to board one of the four existing wagons. Vor has been more productive than trapped, but not as much as Foolio or winter and I've got my reasons for not going after trapped yet. Winter and Foolio were both far more productive and so I didn't go after either.

With that said, now that it exists, I have no problem boarding the Red Hawk wagon. It's a good a wagon as any.

Shuhan was silently removed from the game, and based on Bogart's cryptic post about PMs I don't know if that means the setup got altered on the fly. Hopefully people's alignments didn't change, as that would make analysis of early behavior hard.

Meta reasons to excuse yourselves from voting trapped are egregious; the fact is, it has been almost 96 hours since the game's start, minus a 12-ish hour period of downtime granted, and she has basically been non-existent. Just because she has been active in past games, or because she is a very nice person or something, does not give you a valid excuse to ignore her. That's how gullible townies get murdered.

That said, perhaps a little hypocritically, Red Hawk's newness to the game makes me less worried both about him being scum to begin with, and about being outwitted by him if he is. By the way, Red Hawk, if you want to switch your vote to a new person you have to write "unvote" in bold first, as many of us have done.

Of the current wagons, I don't really support any of them other than the one I'm on. I suppose if my hand were forced I'd switch to vor, but that wagon also puzzles me. I'd almost rather vote for almost anyone who DOESN'T have a wagon. wintergt's conclusion that my confrontation indicates I'm town is not enough to convince me he's town, Galaxy is the only one not to vote and has mostly posted doubts and nothing more, Kitsu was really eager to prod the setup with a no-lynch but changed his mind rather easily and now wants to jump on pretty much any wagon as long as it's a wagon (and has already wagon-hopped), Iceburg has been pretty thorough in her observations and I like her posts but I don't necessarily trust her (plus she is trying to distract everyone from her posts with boobs).

I'm slightly confused by this. I voted after Shuhan was taken from the game and wintergt had post several times. Is that not what you're talking about?

I didn't give a reason because I wanted to see if people would follow despite that. There was plenty of reason to vote anybody at that point, and no other wagon had yet made it that far.

People are happy to talk about lynching lurkers for the sake of town, but we all know that we aren't going to find mafia there. Mafia wants to be relevant but not memorable. vorlianis fits that bill, along with trappedolphin and Mrs. Iceburg.

Galaxy 9000 actually jumped on Shuhan after I coerced him. KI keeps busy and Foolio is independent. Winter and Red are harder to call because of their initial absences.

The plan is an ultimatum. No different from what you would expect. You threaten people into action, they act, then you lynch them for their susceptibility. Everyone posts when you start talking about them. Winter and Shu weren't any different.

Shuhan had jumped ship in the last game I played, and I haven't seen wintergt since my first game as moderator. Picking Shu over winter was a no-brainer for lynching lurkers.

That was a wagon with three votes. Five to lynch. Next vote is L-1. That means a claim, but I don't even want to hear any claim unless people are going to take them seriously enough to act on them. It was part of the reason I voted vorlianis-being third on the wagon would mean that the next vote brought scrutiny of the wagon. I was fine with that, but it looks like the wagon was taken apart from the outside. It's one thing if you don't agree, and another to denounce it.

Why was it that Galaxy had been compliant enough to defy the deadline I set for Shuhan, but not enough to put vorlianis at L-1?

Why was Mrs. Iceburg defending vorlianis? This is the same Madame Iceburg who baited people into rushing the day, yes? She's taking this wagon seriously, despite that the first vote was made lightly, and the third vote was made to supplement one on a now removed player.

Was the third vote a sign that called for immediate defense? Red's at three, but I don't see anyone rushing to his aid.
