Yes, the show can do what it wants, such as having a winter episode followed by a fall episode a couple weeks later and thats not inherantly a big deal, but they have in the past tried to match up the Halloween and Christmas episodes close to the actual occasion.
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (9th & Final Season Airing Now)
-
-
Well this was a nice episode.
! For some reason, I think there might be solo CMC episodes in future. I honestly think it'd be interesting to see the CMCs individually helping other ponies with Cutie Mark problems or helping them get their Cutie Marks. The song was good for the first song of the season. And we almost got psycho Applebloom.
Looking forward to next weeks episode.

My Mini PMVs for the first few episodes:
!

Synopsis for Episode 9:
! S06E09: Saddle Row & Rec
Original Airdate: 5/21/2016
! When Rarity opens her flagship store in Manehattan, a tell-all article threatens to expose how badly her friends almost ruined the Grand Opening. -
! The episode didn't really work for me. It felt a bit rushed, and you never felt like Ember got the time to let Spike's actions and words sink in. I'd also preferred if the ponies stayed home, though at least they didn't help out. But there were some good things too. Seeing Rarity actually dig for gems was nice, and just the fact that they finally got back to the dragons was great. Hopefully we'll see more of them in the future.
! This is one of those episodes I could see work as a season opener or finale. Everybody loves dragons, and a competition to become dragon lord, a decision that could affect Equestria? There's a lot that could be done with that. I still like the original opener, but for the future I wouldn't mind something that focused on the dragons and Spike. -
! Overall, this is probably my favourite episode of the season so far.
SO much of it just worked for me.
I'm also on board with Spike eventually switching from Rarity to Ember.
I can't help but feel like it's too much of a coincidence that he's been given a petite female dragon to be friends with. -
I enjoyed the episode. It was actually the first episode I've watched since Slice of Life.
-
Further thoughts:
! I also can't help but feel like… this gathering of allies for Equestria...
might be leading to a 'Sombra level' war in the present timeline at some point.
! Griffon Kingdom, YakYakistan, and now the Dragon lands, all being sown seeds of friendship with Equestria?
I can't help but feel like we may be gathering allies because we're gonna be on the same side in a coming war.
! It just reminds me too much of how Luffy is friends with a shitload of royals from the different countries that he's saved,
and how we know that they'll all likely assist him in the end game war. I can't help but wonder if MLP is headed for something similar. -
Quick thoughts on episode 5:
I have to say that this is my favorite episode in this season so far and the best spike episode IMO, despite how predictable it was (however, unlike that shitty "Princess Spike" episode last season, the predictability didn't keep me from enjoying the episode.) :)
8/10

PMV for this episode, with a slight tone of shipping.
-
Hopefully we'll have more episodes like this, so Spike can start to develop. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like he's the only main character who hasn't changed much from episode 1. Sure, he's done a thing here or there, but at the end of the day he's still Twilight's young, gullible side-kick.
With more focus on the dragons, and maybe a switch of love-interest from Rarity to Ember things could get very interesting (an episode focusing on losing interest in someone and how to cope would be great). We still don't know anything about his dragon family, where Celestia got his egg from, if his ability to transport messages is unique to him or not… we've barely scratched the surface.
-
A reference to HP and a spike-focused episode that hints of development to come? Loved it! :D
-
Wait when did the new season start????
Totally flaked on the last half of last season. So I know what I'm doing for spring break….

Trailer for Episode 6.
!
Synopsis for Flutter Brutter:
! When Fluttershy tries to convince her freeloading brother to move out of their parents' house, he moves in with her instead, forcing Fluttershy to stand up to him and help him get over his fear of failure.
-
! I'm very happy with this episode!
! I'm glad it ended up with Twilight being the one in the wrong. It's the exact kind of development I've wanted to see from her (maybe I'll stop nitpicking about Twilight preachiness, finally).
At the start I thought'd the episode would end up with some moral how "Starlight still has a lot to learn" or that "she shouldn't rely on magic", but turns out that it wasn't that she needed changing, she just needed to find that one pony who understood her (which isn't easy when you were the arc villain). Trixie was also nice. To show that she's still upset, still a bit manipulative, but that she's learning. She didn't just 180 her personality and suddenly turn good. Even the little venting sessions were great.
! Admittedly I can see a lot of myself in the episode. I'm still struggling to make friend in real life, so it feels very reassuring to remember that sometimes there's nothing wrong with you, you just haven't met someone with your interests. Yesterday we got to meet a Canadian web comic artist in class, and it was such a relief to hear her talk about stuff like One Punch Man and Undertale and actually understand everything she talked about. There are things I need to improve about myself, but it's moments like that and episodes like this that reminds me not to be too hard on myself. Didn't realize it until now, but that endless pursuit of trying to find friends and trying to not be weird, to fit it, to not make mistakes and feel like there's no one out there for you… it destroys you after a while.
! Looks like I learned a lesson this week too. -
Yes, really enjoyed this episode.
But HOLY SHIT:
! Trixie was legit suicidal. That was dark as fuck.
The melancholy in her voice, the way she went ahead with the trick even after earlier admitting that she'd be a GONER without an assistant?
Preeeetty sure we just got a canon suicidal pony, such was her heartbreak. Like, WOW. -
! So, when do Chrysalis, Sombra and Tirek get redeemed? They're like the only ones left.
! Flim and Flam I guess. -

Really liked episode 6.
Cranky asking the real questions there.
-
PMV for the new ep.
!
Quite pleased with that one, I was able to assign both ponies to a specific singer.
-
That was a very cute episode. ^_^
! So, when do Chrysalis, Sombra and Tirek get redeemed? They're like the only ones left.
! Flim and Flam I guess.! Flim and Flam I could see, yes. But Chrysalis, Somba, and Tirek? That's harder to see.

This episode is actually a great lesson in friendship :) forgiving others is a really important thing to learn.

Newbie Dash Spoilers
! Well, this episode seems to have created mixed feelings among fans. I read it would be cringeworthy before watching, and that might've been what saved the episode for me, I expected it to be much worse than it was.
! I like that RD didn't just waltz in and be the best at everything. When you think you're the best at something it can be hard to adjust, and whenever you join a new group there will be awkwardness and confusion. Happens to everybody. it was nice seeing the writers tackle it, while at the same time making the viewer sympathetic for both Rainbow Dash and the Wonderbolts.
! The problem is the nickname. I get where the writers are coming from, and the resolution was alright. The trouble is that degrading nicknames can work two ways: some people are capable of moving on or even transforming it into something new, while others would be destroyed. Same thing with how some people can take insults while others can't, or how some groups are capable of making fun of each other respectably while others completely fail and end up bullying each other. Rainbow is the kind of pony who can take it, but it still hurt seeing her not tell Spitfire that of all names, C_rash_ might be the worst. When she imitated her friends was a bit cringe worthy, but also a bit funny. Especially Rarity, considering RD's origin.
! In the end, I like the episode. I don't think there's a clear right or wrong to the nickname issue. If RD had been the protagonist of the show and all similar events were resolved the same way I'd get angry, but chances are there'll be episodes, or we've already gotten episodes, where we get alternate solutions to similar problems. -

There are seriously people out there who are complaining that the episode promotes bullying!
They have no idea what was actually going on, or what the episode was trying to do.
Dash herself learned it near the end, and it felt pretty satisfying to see her taking her punishment with a grin.
This episode taught Dash the importance of discipline, working with the group, and sucking it up.
Exactly the kind of thing someone in a military-like institution NEEDS to learn.
! This was quite honestly an excellent Dash episode that needs to be properly understood to be appreciated.
And those imitations were golden. Rarity's had me dying. -

And those imitations were golden. Rarity's had me dying.! I think the flashback with bullies calling RD Crash might be the biggest reason for the misinterpretation. It was a good plot element, pointing out the difference between real bullying and the military ( and sports?) culture thing, but it's understandable people went into this episode thinking it'd be about bullying and not just discipline. I still like it, especially now that I got some time to think about it (thanks Black for pointing out the military thing, had no idea), but I understand where people are coming from. But to the producers' credit, there were so many ways they could've screwed up this story/moral. Considering that, they did a great job.
-
Dash looks terrible in the Wonderbolt outfit. Colors are just not good on it. Blue in a blue suit? And the rainbow colors stand out too much compared to the others.
-
Mini PMV for the new episode, which I think sums it up.
-
Really. I had no problem with the outfit on her

New Ep
! Songs galore! Luna needs solo songs in the future, that was fantastic!
! The Christmas Carol is a little overused by this point, but it's a good story so I don't mind. But I'm wondering if there's other famous Christmas stories you could use. Maybe the Little Match Girl? -

…..This episode is now tied with Pinkie Pride as my all time favourite episode of the show.
Like holy shit, that was amazing. I gave it six stars out of five, which I only do for episodes that I personally find completely perfect.
Pinkie Pride is the ONLY other episode I've loved enough to give six stars, so they're tied for now. This week's intro PMV:
!
-
I loved this episode.
! Twilight's "sweep" remix, the "hoof-bump" between AJ and RD, the callback to "Too Many Pinkie Pie's", Rarity's "No Spoilers!" line, etc. I could go on and on. Lots of good comedy in this episode.
-
! Now to count down until the Sweep Sweep remixes hit youtube.
! What a sweet episode! Every pony got showcased doing what they do best. And I caught a background reference for once (made it worth sitting through Pulp Fiction). -
! That episode was an expression gold mine. No Spoilers!, hoof bump… It's like they wanted to spawn as many new reaction Gifs as possible.
! Also Hoof-bump.gif was just plain jealousy because they didn't had the idea for sweep mix deluxe. -
That episode was equally amusing and adorable.
Rainbow and Pinkie stole the show, though Twilight was adorkably great too. This week's PMV:
!
-
Between "Newbie Dash" and "Flutter Brutter", it looks like Dave Rapp is writing episodes with moral lessons geared more towards Bronies than children. It's kind of hilarious.
-
New Ep
! I like the balance they got with Zephyr. Pointing out how he was a jerk who never tried anything, but also allowing the audience to understand him and why he is like he is. I especially liked the scene where he finally did the hair right. He's not saving Equestria or doing something grand and flashy, he's just gathering his courage to try. It's easy to think he's weak, but even small steps like that can seem big sometimes. The result wasn't even perfect, but he finished it, it looks okay, and that's what counted.
And some thought on the previous episode, I guess.
! This will probably be my least favorite episode this season. I understand what they were trying to do with it, but it was just so slow. And I don't think Applejack is that dense when it comes to managing her own chores.
! It's a shame - they could really do something with Applejack being a workaholic and old-fashioned. I'd like to see an episode where she is against something being automated (especially because of previous experiences with Flim and Flam) but eventually realize that not all machinery is bad. -
Vacations are nice, but it did kinda suck to fall behind on the show, even if it was just for an episode.
But anyways, finally watched Episode 11.
10/10 Fluttershy characterization, more of this side of her PLEAAASSEEE!Also laughed at the cheesy attempts to flirt with Rainbow.
-
I found this lol.
!
-
!
Still unsure of whether I can be bothered to do this, but we'll see. -

With today's episode, the series finally has spent more episodes during the alicorn Twilight phase than during the unicorn Twilight phase.
No way this episode's theme was a coincidence.
