Fishmen on steroids? Oda never fails to surprise me.
All the designs are awesome. All of them!
How can Oda make such great chapters almost every week?

Again: Guys. Arlong IS strong. Really. His forte are physical attacks, so that puts him at a serious disadvantage against Luffy. But remember, he dealt with Sanji throwing water at him. He threw fucking water from his fucking hand at Sanji without even trying, and it was enough to deal with him.
Now, I know 2 years have passed, but does that mean that EVERYONE on FI is stronger than Arlong? That Arlong is now a lil' bitch? You think so? I think he could hold his own on his turf. Underwater he is pretty much overkill.
Now, back to the present: These Fishmen Pirates could be NEAR Arlong strength. But again, Arlong was considered a very strong Fishman, not a fodder one. Jinbe was much stronger, but Jinbe seems to be the exception here. Hell, Hatchan is supposed to be the second strongest swordsman on FI!! I can be perfectly wrong, but these guys base strength could very well be near Arlong. Maybe a bit higher, maybe a bit lower. But you think Hodi will only swallow 4 pills when he engages in serious combat? I'm betting he'll take a dozen pills or more. The same goes for his liutenants.
Oh, and LOOOL at Lucci being Fodder now. Vice Admirals and Sichibukai all thought higly of him, so don0t take him lightly
I'm still not convinced that Hodi Jones will be the main villain. There's a lot of things that have been said in the last few chapters that will obviously make the situation more complex than "defeat fishmen supremacists p2." I'm not so sure about Decken either, since his introduction didn't seem intimidating enough to be such a powerful person and the main villain in the center of such a dark theme like racial subjugation and slavery which has been brought up constantly since Saobody. Pretty sure that there's some deeper story and villain behind all this, not to mention that it would really suck if we got Arlong2.
also I think you guys are seriously underestimating Arlong. Remember that between EB and Water7 Luffy didn't grow in strength that much. It wasn't until Ennis Lobby that Luffy developed the gears. Arlong just happened to be defeated by Luffy before Crocodile and Enel. He was also probably using bribes to keep his bounty low.
Calling it now: Luffy starts downing the "candy" and it ends up being the steroid drugs. He goes berserker mode and destroys Fishman Island.
And also, King Neptune = Santa Clause and Santa goes "Ho Ho Ho", which is coincidentally his whale's name
Luffy is going to eat a ton of drugs beacause he is going to think that they are CANDY !
I don't know if it was discussed at the spoiler section, but what you guys above said can happen.
For the most part of his fight with Luffy, Arlong was out of his element. Fishmen are much swifter and stronger in the water. Luffy will have to face Hodi Jones surrounded by his one major weakness and his opponent's strength. Plus, on top of all that, he'll be roided up.
Jones will not be some pushover.
I may have been wrong about the candy factory producing actual candy, and it might turn out to be the front for Big Mam's drug cartel, that surprises me. Although Jones is only seen to be popping the pills, no mention of where they came from yet, I guess the connection can be made.
Can anyone clarify if the whale's name is pronounced as "Ho-eh" or not? The lol-hoe comments are getting boring.
Yeah, if i recall well, it was staten during arlong arc that his bountie was kinda low for his strenght mainly because it is East Blue and the fact that Arlong had deals with some marines but i don't remember when exactly. Anyway i doubt his strenght would go much higher then the strenght of Daz Bones for example. At most he would be worth a bounty of 50-70 million on grand line standards (like i believe Arlong>Bellamy and Arlong might actually be very close to Franky in Ennie Lobby in strenght).
But anyway, i think that if this 4 pills Hodi's taken multiply the strenght by 16, then Hodi Jones might very well be stronger then Jinbei on that form, and maybe that's related to why Jinbe had to leave the FI.
Can anyone clarify if the whale's name is pronounced as "Ho-eh" or not? The lol-hoe comments are getting boring.
I'm pretty sure it is pronounced "Ho-eh". That's how a Japanese person would pronounce it, if I'm not mistaken.
And it's how I'm going to pronounce it to avoid chuckling every time he's mentioned. …..What.
Hodi Jones might very well be stronger then Jinbei on that form, and maybe that's related to why Jinbe had to leave the FI.
I doubt that Jinbe with all the former sunny pirates would leave because they're scared of Jones. The most likely explanation is that since now he and his crew are wanted pirates, they didn't want to lure bounty hunters and marines into FI to cause chaos there and to, of course, avoid a confrontation with the marines. Part of being a pirate is that you have to be constantly on the run from them (esp if you have a high bounty), you can't be stationed in one place all the time.
I loved this chapter.
First of all, Hodi Jones had one of the coolest villain introductions I've seen yet, right up there with Crocodile's and Kizaru's. However, I don't really see him as an arc-long villain. His setup seems to be directly in line with Wiper's, to me. His views may be misguided, but he's giving his life for what he believes. He seems entirely suited to redemption to me. I also disagree with anyone who thinks he'll be a pushover.
I'm not sure what I think a drug that grows exponentially with no upper limit, though. Hopefully there will be one in the end, or a risk of immediate death on overdose or something, like Aohige suggested. I do wonder how many of them Luffy will wind up taking.
I guess we're getting the crew back at a rate of one per chapter (I predict Robin at the palace I suppose). The page with Nami's reappearance absolutely killed me. At first I was laughing at her three mood swings on one page, but then that looting panel finished me. And in the end, they got as many new clothes as Oda wants to draw, which should be cool.
Neptune's interesting, but Hoe for a spelling? Really, as a romanization too? And he's wearing a bottle of crown royal on his head. I know it's probably supposed to be pronounced "howay" or something close to that, but that's not how it reads for us native English speakers.
Gyro had a pretty cool design, so we'll probably see him again years from now.
I kind of hope that Luffy won't end up taking any of the drugs. That way, he could prove just how strong he's gotten in the 2 years that passed.
And I agree that Hodi Jones probably won't be the arc villain. I'm guessing Vander Decken, since Oda drew so much attention to his wanted poster in the last chapter.
I can't imagine Jones being the main antagonist of this arc. I'm hoping Oda is going to do his magic and turn the whole situation upside down, thus making Neptune himself the big bad guy. He looks strong as hell, the fact that fishmen seem to need drugs to even have a chance to overthrow and it also seems that strongest NFP we've seen so far is also merman. I just don't see this arc's big bad guys going to be Arlong Park all over again on steroids, i'm betting my money on mermen.

Who is underestimating Arlong? Arlong isn't fodder but he damn well isn't strong enough for the New World. Hodi ended up having to take 4 pills so he could get his message across, and against pirates that shat there pants when seeing the kraken and followed the NFP like little puppies. Hodi isn't going to be the main villian of this arc and some people are overestimating a fishman that wanted a quiet life on the weakest ocean.
Gyro had a pretty cool design, so we'll probably see him again years from now.
That's starting to be quite the problem with Oda. He creates cool designs even for fodder characters, or characters that were used once and will probably never appear again.
It's a damn shame.
Like Doma, or McGuy. Will we ever see those guys again?

Yeah i agree, but it might be a trick from Oda, and also what i first thought about the character, it seems like Christmas' father inspiration xD. Oh oh oh. :P

Is it possible that Neptune is keeping his daughter as a prisoner bracuse he dosen't want ther to marry van der decken?
I have doubts that Hodi is the main villain in this arc, maybe Big Mom won't be happy about Luffy running wild on his new territory.
And if you ask me I think Jinbei could kick Hodi's doped ass without much troubles.
Is it possible that Neptune is keeping his daughter as a prisoner bracuse he dosen't want ther to marry van der decken?
Anything is possible in One Piece, but she could also be the potential female opponent for Nami..
Lots of interesting ideas here–keep it up guys.
I keep wondering about the drugs, msyelf. On the page after Hodi attacks the runaway's pirate ship, we see a member of his crew bragging about them getting a real treasure in those pills, and in the panel just prior to that there is a small shop shown, seemingly out of the blue, given the previous page. May be nothing, but I wonder... is it related to the drugs somehow? There are no other buildings in the background for teh rest of the "fight," and only on page 15's background do we see anything else--in this case scaffolding
I was half-expecting Neptune to talk in a half-old, half-young sort of way like how it was in Japanese.
Besides that, glad that I finally get to see the chapter. It really is building up to something akin to Skypeia (certain elements, not storyline).
I love Keimi's face faults; they look so natural.
before i read through the thread, i have something to get off my chest.
high fives everyone else who predicted that Hodi would be a great white

Hey rubia–were you gone for a while?
Anyway--how would that sound in English--"the a half-old, half-young sort of way?"
And yup--lots of skypeia parallels
I am still 95% on supplier of pills= Main villain in the arc.
Let's not forget that hodi wants to take fishman island from neptune. and i have a theory that big mom will come to the island when hodi fights luffy since she is the pirate protecting that island abd her factory is there so she will come just to protect her factory and there might be a chance that she might see the defeat crew of the gyro pirates on the surface which will enable her to investigate the island. also she might end up stopping the fight between hodi and luffy since she is also a yonkou and she might have the ruler's haki.
sigh
New fishman pirates taking steriods yawn
Although I like one of the design of the fishman so I guess that's an improvement.
Crab hand dude's design > the fisman design.
Hodi Jones = lame pirate that hates humans and wants to carry on the will of Arlong. I called this already such depth to the fish people what a joke.
That's all for now. Can't wait till luffy rampage's .
http://mangastream.com/read/one_piece/74136489/12
That story about van der decken threatening her into marriage looks like a fake!

College life is rather lax the first year, but it's kept me busy enough. Nice to see that someone actually noticed.
He not only looks like Santa Claus but talks like him too. I guess that's close enough. And with the candy factory nearby, I wonder if there's a gift factory or the like around too. Seeing how around the time Oda may have drawn these, it was close to Christmas.

How the fuck can you still believe this garbage after you read the translated chapter?
Hodi outright explained why he did what he did. Why are you unable to comprehend the point that he just wanted to appear batshit crazy to them? Remember what happens with shark fishmen when they get enraged? Hody was aiming for the same thing, his eyes even looked the same as Arlong in enraged mode.
Dude, this has been written so that a 12-15y old can comprehend the ongoing events.
Why can't you understand this simple thing?
edit: but I agree with you guys on hodi not being the main villain, but more the Wiper of FI.
What a great chapter, awesome characters.
With Jones speach i get the impression that luffy is really going to destroy fish men island. Not physically but rather mentally, the whole racism plot seems to suggest that the strawhats chance it.

I'm very confident that both Doma and McGuy will return at some point in the New World. I'd put odds at like at least 20:1.

…That's interesting. I just took it as their current location when I first read the chapter, but that wouldn't make sense. The scaffolding you refer to is also shown on the double spread, so we can assume it's their hideout, and the spread shows that it's basically outside (or in a very large building). In other words, they're probably not in that tiny shop, so it must have other significance. Good find.
^ the building shown is obviously thier hideout. just saying

What are you finding hard to understand? Hodi took 4 pills, his strength increased 16 fold, on top of that the pills take away part of the user's life. I bow down before your oh so amazing brain that is able to find the hidden meaning behind things. Stop being a fucking asshat. If he was so strong he wouldn't have needed to dope the crap out of himself, to show everyone how supreme the fishman race is compared to others. you carry on believing the garbage that is swimming in that head of yours :getlost:
The way things are shaping up, I'm starting to think that Van Der Decken is going to be a protagonist and an important one at that.
So we rly had an introducion chapter like once with the Supernovae.
So many new cool design..just freaking love the chapter.
Now let`s see who makes his first appearance:
Gyro: Yeah another fodder pirate, like i said reminded me of Morgan, but yeah his "crap"-hand wasn`t rly useful
The guy who tells Hodi about the escaping pirates; some kind of stinger-fish..reminds me of Mrs.Doublefinger in a fishman-form.
Dosun: Mhhh, i think he has the worst new chara design but still not bad…actually love his hammer, looks awesome.
I wonder how such a thin panache could hold that thing.
Zeo: ZOIDBERG IN STYLISH
love that chara, hope he is also the doc in the crew:happy:
The number "2" on his breats may show that he is the second in command or something like that.
Daruma: Reminds me of that little guy in Final Fight, who always was jumping at you. Iam curious what he is able to do..
Icaros: The one we already saw a skizze from Oda.
Already looking forward who has to fight those 8 arms..(Zoro`s ashura??)
Hodi Jones: Somehow his face looks not that impressive but he has something i cant point my finger at right now. Love to see finally again a villain who doesn
t use a DF (like a powered-up Arlong) and his introducion as a fighting power was damn cool, how he ripped those guys apart was nice to see.
Iam curious if the trident on his cap may indicate that he has more to do with Neptune as we know so far.
But i agree that he may not be the villain for the whole arc, because afterall he believes in that what he thinks is the best for his race...
i may see a scenario where Luffy fights him but in the end he passes out caused by those E.S and Luffy realizes that someone else is the true danger for FI.
Neptune:
Curly hair everywhere and a beard mighty enough to cover his mouth.
Looks like straight out of a fairy tale for me.
I think he fits the position of a king..and what can you say to a guy who has his personal hoe.
Some other things i liked in that chapter:
-Pappaq trying to expand and being someday more famous as Dosukoi Panda
-Nami at her best
-that the crew took freaking everything in that shop, SH being pirates afterall made me laugh
also we so may see in the future some cool new clothes on them
Now most important thing:
About E.S, like BusterCall already mentioned
@I:

that it seems like they waited for such a thing to finally make their plans come true.
My theorie is that someone is still hiding in the backround who gave those pirates this E.S in masses so that they could do all the dirty work.
Hodi Jones and the rest seem to be like easy to influence guys who would do for such a chance to make their plans come true a lot.
So i wouldn`t be surprised when somebody gave them this "treause" and gets so his dirty plans slowly working.
I guess here our main arc villain pulls the strings.
And next week we finally should get a new coverstory…any bets who it may be???
Great chapter for sure, love Hodi's design and crew mates. Interesting theories as well guys, the candy front for drug trade and possibility of mermen being behind everything are some plausible outcomes. Cant wait to see it unfold, seems like everyone is down on jones though, but I think hes got a lot of potential though myself.
@Don,redon posted the toc in spoiler thread and next week we will have a color spread
Still one more week to wait for a new coverstory…god dammit:happy:
But for a colourspread i can wait that long.
@Don:

but it could be perception is a great illusion when when you think about it the outside might seme small but the inside could be bigger than you think
hodi must have been a member of the arlong pirates.
also anyone want to take a guess on who the officers will fight in the upcoming battles
im guessing daruma will fight sanji and the hammerhead will fight franky so far

"Jahahaha…I need them alive...!!
They need to keep their scars...survive, and float up to the surface...!!!
So they can pass on the news on the news of what happened to them under the sea…and who they met...!!!
In order to spread that fear to the humans on the surface!!!"
Please, you can't possibly be this dense…?
lol, i have a great and wonderful feeling that there is so much more to this arc than we are seeing. What were seeing now is a small revolution, but i have a feeling the main enemy is not even here at the moment. Could be van der dekken, who knows. Heck, since its right under the World Government's feet, i believe they'll be involved too. Too much?
The background of their intro spread is obviously not the interior of a small building. Just saying.
Actually, I believe he's right. If you look at the beginning of the chapter, and on the page posted below. It makes it seem as though that area is in fact Hodi's base.
oo so these new fishmen can beat luffy by eating steroids xD
@romolis:

We're not seeing a ether Kaidou or Big Mom for a very long time. She'll send somebody to check up on her turf not go herself if she thinks something is going down.
@romolis:
but it could be perception is a great illusion when when you think about it the outside might seme small but the inside could be bigger than you think
Perhaps, but the choice of scaffolding and coral makes for some pretty odd interior decoration.
@Robo:
Actually, I believe he's right. If you look at the beginning of the chapter, and on the page posted below. It makes it seem as though that area is in fact Hodi's base.
Yeah, it seems to be in the same area. But that was never really the debate.
In a moment of pure insanity, I predict Caribou is gonna join the fishman pirates, most likely to betray them later on.
We're not seeing a ether Kaidou or Big Mom for a very long time. She'll send somebody to check up on her turf not go herself if she thinks something is going down.
I would've thought it'd be better to have an ally reside on Fishman Island, so Big Mom wouldn't have to send anyone. And if she does send someone, where are they gonna come from? The far end of the NW?
I don't think Big Mom will be involved in this arc in any way. I think after the arc she'll either have Luffy noted as an ally who saved Fishman Island, or an enemy who destroyed it.
