Looks exiting, but I'm actually waiting for to see how the gameplay is like. It's hard to tell from the trailer how much is controlled, and how much would be quick time button push events(or just cut-scenes). If so, it could a be a fun game to watch on Youtube(if it ends up like Asura's Wrath).
Tomb Raider-"A SURVIVOR IS BORN"

@Nex:
Seriously, what happened to this?
[hide][/hide]That was how she looked in the art she never looked exactly like that in game.
-
Eah, I can't help but be reminded of Dragon's Lair with the no-doubt plethora of ways to get Lara killed. And the movie Descent, that still stands. I wonder if there will be any parts of the game where Lara won't look like she just dived headfirst into a meat grinder.
-
That was how she looked in the art she never looked exactly like that in game.
It was pretty darn close in the video that was right below it in my post, and in the gameplay demo from E3 last year.

This game can suuuck my diiiiiIIICK!
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
"They're more like 'I want to protect her.' There's this sort of dynamic of 'I'm going to this adventure with her and trying to protect her.'"
"She's definitely the hero but— you're kind of like her helper," he said. "When you see her have to face these challenges, you start to root for her in a way that you might not root for a male character."
In the new Tomb Raider, Lara Croft will suffer. Her best friend will be kidnapped. She'll get taken prisoner by island scavengers. And then, Rosenberg says, those scavengers will try to rape her. "She is literally turned into a cornered animal," Rosenberg said. "It's a huge step in her evolution: she's forced to either fight back or die."
-
Wow wow wow wow wow.
And here I was calling it Eli Roth's Snuff Raider as a joke.
-
The attempted rape was shown in the new trailer, it wasn't much.
-

-
You know what I meant. That line makes it sound graphic, but in the game it's a handsy guy who promptly gets killed.
-
"You know, you can't relate to her or her struggle, because well, most players are guys, and she's a girl."
"And you have to….you know, protect her because she's a girl which you can't feel the same way with a guy. I mean, you didn't feel anything when Naked Snake was getting tortured and lost his eye did you?".....Still might be a good game, but this interview certainly did its opposite job if it was supposed to be making me want to buy this game immediately.
-
"And you have to….you know, protect her because she's a girl"
-
So…..yeah.....without knowing what exact role is put into when developing parts, what are the chances that this is just some stupid statement that the Exec. Producer made with the other designers and directors facepalming instead of it being the philosophy of the entire crew? Because its pretty dang hard to enjoy the scenes as much if this is supposed to be the entire intention.
I really don't mind a character being pushed to his/her limits and having to overcome them. The 'captured' scenes in the MGS franchise tend to be my favorite seeing them struggle and actually having a hard time going through it, but still being able to make it(Though really, holy shi* @ the final button mashing sequence in MGS2 on European extreme). Its just that I go into them with the intention and thinking of the characters overcoming the events, not me having to protect them. ....So yes.
FUC* THAT PRODUCER'S THOUGHTS.
-
"She's definitely the hero but— you're kind of like her helper,"
Yeah, if I'm actually controlling her actions I'm not the helper, I am her.
"And you have to….you know, protect her because she's a girl"
Is not amused with this bullshit -
So I'm guessing the person she's constanty trying to call for help was me all along?
I need to block this woman's number. -
@my:
id rather see a duke nukem reboot where we see how his near-rape experience propelled him to new heights
-
-
Wooooooooooooooow! Lara Croft killed an Egyptian goddess, several dinosaurs, and a dragon. Executive Producer and anyone else who shares these ideals can go fuck themselves.
You know what I meant. That line makes it sound graphic, but in the game it's a handsy guy who promptly gets killed.
There might be more than that scene.
But what's far more annoying is that the scene is actually there. Why do we even need the scene? We never see moments where Nathan Drake gets felt up by some guard or something. Why do we need to watch Lara get felt up?
EDIT: LOL @TheBeast's friend's comment.
-
Meet your new Lara Croft.

She's totally nude in Showtime's Californication if you're interested.
-
Those comments made me not want to play this game anymore… not even sure why.
-
Reminds me of the Other M disaster in a way.
Will repeat it again in this thread. Hoping that this is just bad marketing, but…
-
Those comments made me not want to play this game anymore… not even sure why.
I feel the same way, and I was initially looking forward to this.
If I had to hazard a guess, it's that instead of just making Lara look like a Maxim cover girl (with convenient camera angles), they decided to instead try to exploit some kind of "knight in shining armor" complex that all men inherently posses. Protect the fair maiden's purity, lest she be spoiled and unfit for marriage.
Its the same pandering to the male audience that the series is known for, just in a new, creepy, and rather insulting direction. -
I feel obligated to play this as a Tomb Raider fan, but what they've done and what they're saying is so aggravating.
-
I think people are taking it the wrong way, I think they're trying to show a woman go through hell and grow strong.
But then that one douche made those comments in an interview…
-

Lol, I remember that, it was a worthy retsupurae.
-

But then that one douche made those comments in an interview…
To be fair, yeah, the producer has little to no control over the game. He's far more financially helping the game, and was unfortunately, a huge douchebag who should have kept his mouth shut.
However, I still had issues with this game before that statement came out. When trailers came out, the game felt very…..exploity...
Maybe I'm perverted. I don't know. But the frequency of her moans, and how sexual they try and make her moans sound is just very unsettling and awkward at first. When I first saw these trailers, I ignored these thoughts, cause I thought "Maybe it's just me." It made me very uncomfortable, so I tried to look past it.
And then they made her boobs bigger. And then the attempted rape scene happened. And then the producer guy talked up.
All those little ducks in a row took place, and it's just....
If it looks like a duck, smells like a duck, and sounds like a duck, it could very well be a duck! And I know I play games like Bayonetta, but I don't feel that issue there. I feel like Bayonetta is a strong and independent character who can take care of herself. She'd probably know men look at her in dirty ways, and she'd probably not care, cause they're never gonna get it. She'd probably laugh at that idea, cause she's in the middle of kicking ass and taking names.
This case? This is a poor young woman going through a HORRIBLE situation, being attacked by armed men and god knows what supernatural or monstrous horrors she's going to have to face, and apparently could be potentially raped! The sexual hints and feels this game tries to give just feels IMMENSELY uncomfortable. This is like if Silent Hill 3 had a scene where all of a sudden, Heather got molested by tentacles for no reason other than fan service. The poor girl already lost her father, is facing bizarre monsters, and is pregnant with the fetus of God. Do we really need to do this to the poor girl? Do we really need to exploit her every existence to our sexual pleasures? Can we have a female video game character that is just a character who happens to be female?
I'm not going to speak against sexual fanservice toward any gender of character, but really, when you are trying to be straight lace, dramatic and serious (which this game is TRYING to be), you don't do that. Silent Hill doesn't do that. In fact, Silent Hill is one of the few games to address rape, and address in a far more believable way.
tl:dr ----
What I'm saying, Buhan is: I don't think you are wrong for wanting this game. I want this game too. However, the combination of Lara's excess moaning during struggle, the feeling of exploitation of her struggle, what the producer said, the attempted rape scene, and the fact that his poor girl is being used for all of this while going through a horrible and frightening adventure? .....It all makes me extremely uncomfortable. I'll feel like either the company is benefiting from making these bizarre sexual decisions, or I'll feel like I'm in the same boat as people who play this game with one hand.I want to get this game. I want to see Lara become a stronger character. But it feels wrong with all these issues going on.

Can we have a female video game character that is just a character who happens to be female?
Didn't Mirror's Edge do that?
-
And I think the same could be said for if you choose to play as a female character in ME.
-

I was speaking metaphorically with that, but yes.
Also Portal, Beyond Good and Evil, and Silent Hill 3.
-
I think they're trying to show a woman go through hell and grow strong.
It's an idiot man with an idiot man's tinted idiot man goggles that are filtering the entire process. like this is a hard thing to get across because to a lot of people this comes off as nitpicky, like OH DAMNED IF YOU DO DAMNED IF YOU DON'T- ALWAYS A COMPLAINT WITH THE FEMALE CHARACTERS. Which is honestly totally false, there's a lot of things you can fuck up doing and it's not hard at all to make a "good" female character or a non-offensive one, and it should be coming more naturally to people, but their judgement is all fucked up and clouded.
And anyways really that kind of pattern in female characters across mediums forever
OH WHAT IS HELL LIKE FOR A WOMAN GOSH I DON'T KNOW
RAPE THAT'S A GOOD ONE THAT'S A WOMAN THING RIGHT
yes it's just some light "forceful groping" or something before she "beats him up" but we're talking about a situated threat regardless
Things like this don't work out via processes of mediation over time. It's just not something anybody should really try figuring out how to do right now because time and time again these are the kinds of situations that female characters are thrown into lightly as a go-to and it'd just be way cooler if a writer could figure out how to make this situation work without having to fall into crutches.
yes a female character who goes through hell and back is a thing that's totally cool
But with the kind of writing and directing this game is getting it sure as hell isn't here
and that's just the POSSIBLE RAPE circumstance, not even getting into the other weird ass vibes going on in the trailer and probably the game because the entire process is filtered through this idea of YOU'RE HER HELPER SHE'S SO INNOCENT AND NAIVE AND ABOUT TO GET FISTFUCKD WITH HARD REALITY OF HORRIFYING TERRORS
I thought this was already explained but I guess not
i'm really tired and i'm not quite sure how to convey this point succinctly so I hope that's enough
-
It was. I'm just hoping the full game redeems itself.
-
I think if the gameplay was really good it might make things a lot easier to be forgiving to it
But who knows, Other M supposedly wasn't a bad game to play but it still seemed to have been too much for people to handle, so it might be the same thing here. But that was less "interesting" than this gameplay mgiht be so WHOOOO KNOOOOWS
-
What boggles my mind is this: People were ragging on Lara's moaning since last year's E3 video, you'd think they would have taken the hint and toned it down since then.
-
Totally. That was the elephant in the room. Don't get me wrong I'd yelp at a lot of crap Lara went through in that demo, but it wouldn't be the same repetitive and exaggerated moan each and every time.
I'd probably be cussing a fuck-ton.
-

The gameplay wasn't bad, but seeing Samus like that was very annoying.
-
He continues to emphasize that the scene, which you can watch below, does not represent any sort of sexual assault.
-
Yeah…it was fairly evident from the video shown at E3 that that dude did not just have "intimidation" on his mind.
PR doublespeak and backpedaling is funny.
-
I would say that the best course of action would be to just shut up about this, but they really seem to like the taste of foot.
-
Wow. The grave just gets deeper.
-
New details have come out.
- Game will be roughly 12 hours long.
- Health will be regenerative.
- Lara can't swim.
… wait, what.
- Lara can't swim.
I guess that's good cause underwater segments have always sucked.
-
I guess that's good cause underwater segments have always sucked.
In general, or just Tomb Raider?
-
Meh, I always liked Tomb Raider's underwater portions.
Regenerative health with no items? Eh… I'm nervous as to how that will be handled.
-
-
Kay. That's too bad for you then.
-
I didn't think anyone liked swimming sequences. I figured they were universally hated, like turret sequences.
Damn, I hate turret sequences.
-
-
-
Aaaaaaaaaand multiplayer confirmed.
-
So that was the big reveal….and not the Wii U version like people wanted. Still excited for this one tho.
Not really sure how multiplayer in TR works. One person plays as Lara as she has to 'survive' the horny guys played by the other players?
