As far as I'm concerned Skyward Sword was the best new game out last year. So that easily makes it one of the best games made for me. Besides. Didn't you say you hadn't even played it :P

And to back it up they re-released Ocarina which is pretty much regarded as the best game ever made by most so doub-le points XD

I would love to see more varied IPs from Nintendo. However I wish people would stop using the word 'focus on new IPs' Nintendo focus a helluva lot more on new IPs than other companies do. Steel Diver, Dillon's Rolling Western, Pullbox are Nintendo owned. As if Xenoblade IIRC. Not to mention reviving a handful of smaller titles like Kid Icarus, Nintendogs (like it or not it's a Nintendo IP) Fire Emblem, Starfox and Pilotwings to name a few.

And as far as I'm concerned Nintendo can rest Zelda for a while once we get Majora Mask port onto the 3DS, Wind Waker would be fine too and LTTP and Oracles on the e-shop. Oh and the actual 3DS Zelda too

Sony focuses on new IPs but sadly they just can't turn a profit, but I get your point. I thought Dark Souls was the best new game out last year, though. Or was that Skyrim? Honestly who even knows anymore. Now everyone's turning around and saying Skyrim sucks and that SS is not that good (I've been seeing this a lot lately). But I digress. I know Nintendo IS actually working on new IPs, but I just hope they come out as well-received as Pikmin did, since it was Nintendo's BIG new IP back then, and frankly we haven't seen a lot of that lately, which is more of what I was trying to say.

Best Game last year is what you make it. Dark Souls was fun I just stopped playing since after a weekend worth of playing I was no further than I was when I started. Just felt like a waste of time. Skyrim I never really liked due to not working out of the box and simply being a bunch of boring fetch quests in a big empty world. (and still not fixed 6 months down the line.) at least Xenoblade had the incentive of an interesting battle system and rebuilding the city for it's fetch quests/ Arkham City was good for the 10 hours it took to finish it. Never had any incentive to play it again. Uncharted and Assassin's Creed just felt like 'this years game' Portal 2 was ok too. Nothing mind-blowing amazing like people make it out to be tho. (except for Steven Merchant being Steven Merchant…I mean Wheatley. That was awesome.)

Not to say any of these are bad. But not nearly as enjoyable as Zelda or Xenoblade were. (Or Pokemon or Mario 3d Land) Problem I've got is like Uncharted and Assassin's Creed the big games are just kinda feelling the same year in year out these days. Out of these only Dark Souls and Portal 2 felt like new games. (and thats due to not playing the earlier ones so much.)

Thing is that there's a lot of IPs that have gone ignored over the past years. After seeing Donkey Kong I hoped and prayed for a new Yoshi game. (which is one of the most stupid decisions not to do. They brought Mario back for a new generation and Yoshi is pretty well known in his games so why not another Yoshi game?) but so many others we aint seen in a while. F-Zero aint had one in ages (not a HUGE fan of it but it is good.) same with Waverace. Feels like a while since we saw Starfox or Advance Wars get new games. Golden Sun was revived a few years back and then kinda....disappeared again.

If I was Nintendo I'd be looking at the fact there's a new Smash Bros on the way and at least trying to get a good portion of the roster list's games on the console. Even if it's on the e-shop.

as for Metroid... I'd LOVE to see a new one but after Other M I think they're gonna be kinda wary about another one.

Nintendo had a pretty decent year as far as I'm concerned.

Problem is if (like me) you only like 2 games on that list. That's not enough to keep me occupied for a whole year.
From your posts it's not hard to conclude you like everything Nintendo. So that makes a huge difference.

For me Xenoblade and Skyrim were easily the best games last year.
SS felt way more empty to me than Skyrim, with the lack NPC's. And if you read all the books in Skyrim, Oblivion and Morrowind - you get to see the world is alot deeper.
The Lore is just amazing.

But yeah, different game tastes

Xenoblade was my big game of last year. I enjoyed skyrim and skyward sword from a gameplay perspective but a pathetic storyline (skyrim) and a lack of any real & good sidequests (zelda) really let these title down for me. Mario Land 3d and Mario Kart 7 were fun but there games i play in quick succession like on the toilet or on the train. I only just got demon souls so i haven't played dark souls yet. Gears and uncharted were both both great games but didn't keep me as interested as xenoblade did

They're pretty specific with their releases of full retail Zelda games on handhelds. The new Zelda has already been confirmed and has been confirmed to come out before a MM port (if they even make it). We can't really expect that new Zelda until next year, possibly late next year.

Personally I'm not too keen to the idea of a MM and WW port.

I do agree about "too much Mario!", though. The 3DS is getting a new Mario left and right. It annoys me so much that they can't just Animal Crossing and Paper Mario out already. Of course, Paper Mario is a Mario game, but it was announced back at E3 2010, so it really shouldn't be coming out after Mario Tennis.

Unfortunately, they've already said they're making a 2D Mario for the 3DS. Anybody want to take bets that game will come out before Animal Crossing and Paper Mario?

With that said, I don't know what Nintendo could do game-wise to get me interested in the Wii U at this point. Of course the games are the most important factor and they are what makes me buy a console or not. The problem is that Nintendo has got every franchise I really enjoy covered in some way. Super Smash Bros. 4 obviously is years out, so that won't be shown. The new Zeldas are also years out.

So probably what they'll have is Pikmin 3. I'm happy for those who enjoy that series, but it isn't really for me. I just don't see anyway for Nintendo to pull me in this time. They covered so many of their franchises that I love recently. They'd have to do something completely unprecedented like an online Gamefreak-style Pokemon RPG on the Wii U to get me really excited. I think we all know that isn't happening.

MM is made up of the same scenery and characters as ocarina of time so everything they need (with few exceptions like the masks, kafei and bosses) has already been made with ocarina of time 3D. Plus it uses the same engine where as WW uses a slightly different engine i believe

A WW port would be just that, a port. With Majora's Mask they'd have to do more (remake Link's models and update the textures). I don't want MM3D because I felt like OOT3D was a major waste of money. For a 13 year old game they should have done more than just update the textures and a few models here and there. It just wasn't worth another $40, even though I really like OOT.

Majora's Mask is my favorite Zelda game. I want it to be properly remade. Updating textures just doesn't cut it.

So I say, save all of the resources and just make a new Zelda game or two for the 3DS. We already got one remastered port, we don't need anymore. Who knows how long the 3DS will even last? There may only be room for one more Zelda game to be released and that will be the new one.

The 2D Mario should not come out before either of them. I know Mario is a big money-maker for Nintendo, but exactly what kind of Mario games are they even going to have left to release later on in the system's lifespan? We're getting ALL of the Mario titles right now, there will be a major drought later on the system Mario-wise unless Nintendo doesn't slow down.

Paper Mario needs to come out soon because we've been waiting for it a long time. The 2D Mario can wait.

I think Animal Crossing actually has a shot at being a summer release. I really hope it is.

Both Zelda and Smash Bros is what probably will make me end up getting th WIIU. But thats not enough to make me get it at launch. Most launch titles are actually multiplatform and are already released on other consoles and will probably be way cheaper on those consoles. Because they will be out for quite a while by then. But i agree new Ip are what makes me really want a console.

I'm pretty sure the word from Nintendo is that they do actually have an original 3DS Zelda in the works which they'll finish before approaching any more remakes/super-ports. But I think Majora's Mask 3D is still an eventual sure thing at this point, with Nintendo actually listening to how much people have been clamoring for it.

Maybe i should've said it differently. A WW port would be easy but i don't want the 3ds to have every zelda game ported on to it. Majora's mask is the 1 exception for 2 reasons. 1) It's my favourite (selfish yes, but i loved it) 2) they already have ocarina of time 3d made so i think it would be far better and more likely to remake it's sequel than a completely random zelda game

I saw that on another site and when I opened up the article there I was under the impression that domain was not taken because they're making a title like that, it was taken because the domain was previously taken by somebody uploading illegal content. Nintendo's been going after sites like that recently.

Although, I don't know this case for sure as I'd never heard of "Super Mario 4".

All that plus Kirby's Return to Dreamland & the 3DS in general is why I loved 2011 even more as a gamer. :)

Let's hope the F-Zero comment is true. The series isn't exactly that popular today and the fact that Miyamoto did not like two of the latest entries in the franchise and shelved the series for an entire gen is worrying for me as a huge fan of that franchise.

They'd probably have to go the Star Fox 64 3D remake route and see how well it holds up today before going on to make a fully-fledged Wii U F-Zero title.

I just wish they'd go on with it. I loves me some F-Zero. As for ALTTP, that's awesome, but I don't own a 3DS nor plan on owning one.

According to VG Charts. Xenoblade came in #2 for sales in the US this week. Which is awesome! I'm glad with it being GS exclusive didn't compromise its sales #. (since that's what Nintendo will actually look at)

Wii being under powered and GX not selling too hot contributed to it not seeing the light of day this generation. But GX's quality was fantastic! It stood up high and proud among the other entries in the series. It was the in the actual sales department where Miyamoto wasn't very happy i'm sure. I remember a while back when he expressed his dislike for certain games that were the result of a collaboration with a 3rd party. The only piece of crap though was Namco and Star Fox.

If they didn't release F-Zero GX within days of Soul Calibur 2 (2 days at most, or maybe even the same day) then I certainly believe F-Zero GX would have done much better.

I really believe we'll see F-Zero and Star Fox this generation as they lend themselves better to realistic graphics.

i would expect the wii u to be roughly $300/£250. This sort of technology can't be cheap forever but it's still gonna be cheaper than whatever sony & microsoft bring out

Now I don't agree with your statement at all. Nintendo already said that the WiiU is not going to be $250 or under so that was expected. While I understand that $300 is a hefty price for some, that doesn't mean it's a bad move on the consumer. The 3DS was inexcusable for the $250 price tag and Nintendo already knows it was a huge mistake but does everyone suddenly think Nintendo is going to sell all of their systems and lose money off of it?

The WiiU is a next generation system and thinking that they'll price it at the same price as the Wii was right of the bat, that's abysmal thinking in my opinion. $300 is probably the best deal we'll get unless, as I stated before, Nintendo sells it for a loss at $250. Remember people, though a lot of companies fuck over consumers, they still must make their money first before anything.

but the thing was, there were only like 8 stages in the game, and that's it. No branching paths, no nothing. The amount of content was horrible.

Yeah fedcom $300 is the price everyone else seems right. Anything below you won't be getting a powerful console, so THERE'S where they'd be pulling the same stupid shit (Wii). If you're referring to the 3DS's price, which I'm assuming you are, I don't think they'll make the same mistake again. I'd say at most it'd be $400.

I'm not sure if you are arguing with me or not. But what I was trying to say was that the Wiimote along with nearly the exact same hardware from last generation didn't lend it's self to Star Fox or F-Zero. Basically what Miyamoto just said in this article. It makes sense even after the N64, Nintendo allowed every other developer known to man to take up those franchises, because well they basically felt they did all they could with them. Probably why we didn't see a brand new Mario Tennis this gen either and only now coming out for the 3DS.

Still though, crappy hardware or not I was waiting all gen for Star Fox and F-Zero. At least with a real online system and much more power to work with these to franchises have a better excuse to move forward and by Nintendo themselves. F-Zero by Sega was amazing! Star Fox by everyone else not so much, Nintendo just needs to develop these games themselves.

Good for you. However, as for me 2D Mario's have grown quite dull. And even if I might enjoy a playthrough of this new 2D Mario, I'm not hyped for it and it certainly won't even remotely make me considering getting a Wii U itself.

What makes you think those two games are all Nintendo has up its sleeves? Pikmin 3 was obviously going to be at e3 and we already knew it was on the wii u. The mario thing was speculated since last e3. Nintendo usually tries to be pretty tight-lipped about this stuff, so I'd honestly expect that they've got something bigger planned
