Going by the trailer, they intend for you to leave the dock at home, because when you're on-the-go you can just prop up the tablet by itself and play. That's their intended function.
But you want to take it with you to a place with a TV, and also presumably an HDMI cord, and also a charging cable because clearly you're in for a longer than 3 hour session, but bringing the dock is too much? If anything, that would make transport ideal - dock it, which protects the screen, then throw that biz in a bag. I'm just having trouble imagining a scenario where I both A. want to play on a big-screen TV away from my house and B. have no means of carrying the dock with me.
Though now that I think about it, more concerning for me would be if there's a way to charge it without the dock. I can imagine waiting at an airport, playing on the tablet, and I'd want to take that opportunity to plug in and play at the same time.
2nd paragraph; bringing the dock is not inherently too much, but it defeats the mobility part. An hdmi cable I can pocket, charging cable or adapter is okay, imagine you can use a usb+ adapter to charge, I don't even need to buy it as I have plenty(and a lot of people have them). The dock protect the screen, but so does a fitted case. I guess if I were to give another example: see plug and play external drives and those that need an adapter. Yeah, the adapter is not so big, fits almost anywhere, but if you are in a bus, or have no sockets, then your thing is useless. Plug and play just needs itself and something to connect. I think this is what the switch should focus its mobility concept. Make it that your handheld device is autonomous only need a charging/hdmi cables to complete its functions.
Also, having big physical parts to carry increase risk of damage.
Places you'd like to play on a big screen away from home: friend/family/hotel/conference rooms. The building where I live has a common area with a projector room. No, I don't want to carry the entire system, just the handheld and a cable. I don't mean to sound picky, I just found carryig consoles nerve wracking.I know 100% that if I travelled by plane, my backpack would not be able to carry, my laptop plus accesories, + the entire Switch system, I would have to put the docking platform in my suitcase. (Which is another whoke can of worms, in my last 4(8 total flights) trips my luggae did not make it with me to my destination 5 times. So if the handheld is dependant on both the charging and output…I think you know where I am getting at.
