having a logia in the crew could help give some better explinations on the abilitys of logia's…. just sayin
@Don:
Why does the Coribou-brothers have a moose as their galleons figurine?
Maybe the iguana was already taken:blink:
The reindeer, also known how "Caribou" in North America
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reindeer
But I think that a moose, too is known how Caribu (I always thought)

yup, that would be useful ü
So when Luffy tames the Kraken and gets it to pull the ship, will the Kraken be considered part of the crew? Or just temporary propulsion? Also, I love how Chopper stole Brooke's punchline. Hope it'll become a running gag!
This was a good chapter. Maybe it's just me, but I think the sea current explanation will come into play later, during a situation where they will need a good Helmsman for the ship. Possibly when they get near Raftel. 2000 years is a long time, and it's entirely possible a certain current is needed to carry the ship to Raftel. We've seen a glimpse of how crazy the New World is from Chapter 0 and snippets of the other Supernovas arriving there, but we still know so little… Sea Currents there may be ridiculous. Then again, that may be the least of their worries...
Oh, and that Kraken is definitely becoming Luffy's new Pet/Emergency Food Supply. Yup.
Holy shit chopper finished brook's skull joke, so good :D
Inb4 Caribou asks for a signed TD from Brook.
Oh. I just noticed Luffy was wearing Brook's crown in the color spread. Cute~
This has been another episode of "Oceanography With the Strawhats".
Sanji will be able to look at Nami (and accessorily Robin), now, with that coat of her, and will get used to her beauty and women in general ^^
If he doesn't, he'll just die. Cause he might see a lot of mermaids very soon. (said 'might' because it's not sure… we don't know what's going on at Fishmen Island since WB's death. And maybe the first mermaids they'll see will all be ugly like Kokoro )
Oh, almost forgot it, but Brook's crown on Luffy's head, in the color page, was just awesome. Must refer to Luffy becoming King of Pirates ^^
And it's a detail but i love how Sanji's legs are drown, on this page. Very dynamic ^^
Sanji is going to be so disappointed when he realizes that the women have covered themselves up. Eh, it's probably for his own protection too.
As far as the Kraken being the "Florian Triangle" monster, it's possible, but that monster in that sea was HUMONGOUS! It made Thriller Bark look as big as the Sunny does to the Kraken. The scale doesn't match as well for that theory to hold any weight right now, but I would love it if that were the case.
http://read.mangashare.com/One-Piece/chapter-490/page004.html
Huh? Did you even look at the image you posted? Now look again at how big this Kraken is, and think of relative distances. In my opinion, this scale is shockingly close, especially for Oda, who is honestly not that good with scale.
@MLG:
Luffy will tame the Kraken by his Haki lol
bad thing! he will show up his powers to the Logia user Caribou (god dammit!)
by the way…HOW CAN SOMEONE BE SUCH A FREAK!!! THAT CARIBOU IS SUCH A JERK! ITS THE BIGGEST FAIL EVER SEEN! xD

YOU´RE KILLING SO MANY KITTENS!!! MURDERER!!
I'm hoping franky made new underwater suits, usopp made them barrels maybe franky will come up with something better. I'm not sure the barrels would survive that deep anyways, and I dont think his shark submarine could either iirc. That's if they even need them, I just thought it'd be cool to see what franky could come up with.
@Fire Fist:
Oh, and that Kraken is definitely becoming Luffy's new Pet/Emergency Food Supply. Yup.
Here's hoping he'll name it Menchi!
Me too oddly enough. That's when I thought maybe he'll be a huge weak running gag that does a little damage but is tossed away like lint.
Yeah. I wrote before his crew may be like Team Rocket, after each defeat. 'We'll battle another day Strawhats. Muahahaha! Caribou brothers getting buried again' Sounds cheesy I hope that they aren't, because they were the most annoying characters on Pokemon.
Just on the people still confused if Caribou is Logia - The scene in which he is shot with the Cannonball it goes through him - that is also a trait of Logia's anything passing through the body.
I love OP science…
Oh my! It's the deep sea, best to put on a coat!
Love the seacow though, only Oda would cart that guy out as a plot device
Oh and that Kracken looks a bit like a Den Den Mushi, but with tentacles!
I think the best part was where Chopper destroyed Brook's skull joke and his subsequent reaction .
honest to god, when the octopus-octopus fruit is introduced, it will be the most epic fruit of all. why? go read up on octopuses :D

no, he is exactly as the octopus at strrong world (the one that fights the mantis)

No, it doesn't go through, it's absorbed, as far as we know. People talked about a Bury Bury fruit ^^
@No:

yeah that sure cracked me up..

Actually, i'm not so sure now.
We never actually see it go through him, just into him. The way Oda drew it is kinda weird too. He's never drawn a Logia going intangible like that before from what i recall. It seemed liked the cannonball met resistance and was slowed down instead of just passing through. It seems more like he has a body that can absorb things rather then an intangible body.

Wantwantwantwant
Camouflage and having 1000 babies at once. Now that is a fruit worthy of OP.

If he's Mud, it's a rather thick substance.
Just on the people still confused if Caribou is Logia - The scene in which he is shot with the Cannonball it goes through him - that is also a trait of Logia's anything passing through the body.
No matter where I look, I can't see the cannon ball going THROUGH him, but rather IN him. Like what could possibly happen in Mr.3 and Magellan's cases (I think). If it did pass through him, please point out how or where in the panel I can see it, because I really can't.
And now that we know Caribou isn't one to hesitate in lying, he could be bluffing about being a logia, because it's scarier than if he's a paramecia.
awesome awesome awesome!! xD
And I love how Zoro is more "on-sceen" again on the goofy side.
Weeeee ~
But if it's so cold then won't the sea… freeze? (Or do I need to read the chapter over again? :P )
@S.C.:
If he's Mud, it's a rather thick substance.
Of course, but if the viscosity of his element affects things that come in to contact with him, then that's not really intangibility is it?
I think it would be hilarious if Chopper keeps up what he did with Brook's joke.
awesome awesome awesome!! xD

Reading the "awesome awesome awesome!! xD" line while looking at your avatar was rather fun

Not always, please… It would be worse than Brook repeatingly doing skull jokes. Skull jokes are quite okay for me 'cause there are different ones... But Chopper ruining them everytime would be too much for me ^^
awesome awesome awesome!! xD

Well it doesn't necessarily have to be freezing point cold.
@Dan:

Mud is a solid element, thus tangible, but still usualy invunerable. Just like Ice, you can actually touch it, and it will affect it, either absorbing it for Mud or freezing it for Ice.

!
Your world just got shattered.

Can't water stay liquid if the pressure is really high?
@Rubber:
Well it doesn't necessarily have to be freezing point cold.
Even if it is at freezing point, it's moving water. If i have my science correct, it'll need to be much colder to freeze water affected by currents.

I'm talking about how a logia's magical intangibility works. Everything we've seen so far makes it seem like there is no earthy interaction at all when a logia wants to go intangible.
@Dan:

Look at Akainu and Aokiji. They aren't really like Ace and Kizaru… I think a mud logia would be really special.
I think logias don't really become intangible. They become their element. Of course, if it's fire or light, things go through. (Maybe they can be just burnt, in Mera Mera's case) If it's ice, magma, or even mud, it's different. I think you won't ever see a hole in Aokiji's body. (would be great, though, if only a part of his body would break ^^)
But judging from what we saw, Caribou can still be a paramecia.

I personally think its a Cum Cum Fruit xD

Again, Mud is different from Fire or Smoke or Magma or Electricty. It's a solid (Well, sometimes) object and always tangible.
I personally think its a Cum Cum Fruit xD
I want to punch you through the internet right now. There's a dumb predictions thread for people like you.
Anyone reminded of Luffy's crash into Ace and Smoker in Arabasta when Sanji kicked Caribou all of a sudden?
Since we have an Ice logia, I wouldn't be surprised if we have a mud logia.
But the guy's powers looked white, not dark, so mud is out of the question.
@Rubber:
Well it doesn't necessarily have to be freezing point cold.
That's not all.
First off, salinity lowers the temperature that it has to be for water to freeze. Like Nami said, iceburgs inherently form without salt/with minimal salt in them, so the concentration of salinity in the sea deep below becomes even higher than usual, especially with greater numbers of small iceburgs forming.
Next off, it is very difficult for fast currents to freeze. It is true that the deep sea in the real world, as well, has many currents deep below, but is also extremely cold. You will almost never see a running river freeze to the bottom, although you may find that the surface of the water has frozen over. This is despite the fact that the colder water still tends towards the bottom.
Finally, pressure. For most substances, this is counter-intuitive, because for almost everything in this world, higher pressure means more likely to be solid, because solids can exist in lower volume than liquids. However, it is the opposite for water. At standard atmospheric pressure, water is its most dense at approximately 4 degrees celsius. Once it starts freezing, it is already expanding again. In other words, in ridiculous sea pressure, water tends towards its most dense state, which is still in liquid form (no, that does not mean that it tends towards 4 degrees celsius, lol).
There, science lesson.
Edit: So what I was saying is, it probably is below 0 degrees celsius, but it's true that for water in these conditions, that is not necessarily freezing point cold.
Anyone reminded of Luffy's crash into Ace and Smoker in Arabasta when Sanji kicked Caribou all of a sudden?
Or like others said, Caribou was hiding his powers.
@Don:
To say it here again.
The TB-silhouette and that giant kraken could be the same thing.Oda introduced that kraken so early in the story to show
why in the florian triangle so many ships dissappeared.
[qimg]http://www.weichtiere.at/images/weichtiere/kopffuesser/giant_squid1.jpg[/qimg]And seeing now that killer-kraken with those ships in his tentacles stands for it alone.
We all know those storys where ships were destroyed by those monsters, and that Oda would add this legend here in his story with that huge killer-kraken who now resides near FI would be rly fitting.
I disagree. That shadow is more probably the Bloody Snake.
http://www.mangafox.com/manga/one_piece/v15/c129/7.html
Regardless, the scale that you see as similar is actually completely out of whack.
The Kraken is around the size of TB judging by the relative size of that ship it is grabbing and assuming that the Sunny is around that size, because that's around the relative size of the Sunny against TB in the panel with the mist monster.
So the size difference between the regular ship and Kraken is roughly equal to the difference between the Sunny and TB.
The creature in that panels is many times larger than TB. If anything that outline looks like the ridges or fins that a few dinosaurs and crocodiles have in their backs (in crocs it's real small). It looks like the back of a huge reptile, rather than anything else.
So I'll stick with the Bloody Snake theory. (already in existence and not my own)
