I thought so, but the diagram showing Amazon Lilly relative to ID and the Tarai Current showed it North/South, so I wasn't sure. And most of the time I seem to recall them being shown traveling from right to left, regardless of compass, so it messes me up further.
Japanese maps aren't always made with north being up. Normally huge-scale maps have that feature, but for example, if you find a map on a sign in Japan, the direction "up" almost always means "the direction you go to head towards this sign while reading it", and then they have a little printed compass to tell you what direction north actually is.
