@robbybedfart:
The Zoro example is just the most prominent example in the story of someone asking for, what to them, is a necessity, and her denying them/trying to take advantage of them. Generally, the crew doesn't ask her for stuff… because obviously they'll be told no or taken advantage of with extreme interest, despite all the life saving and whatnot.
She does let Zoro buy the swords, she just charges insane interest, but that is money for the bank, which is used to upgrade the ship, or blow it all on a party. If Zoro really needs a sword, do you really think she will not give him money? Unless of course.. they blew it all on a party
The crew blows crazy amounts of money, where do you think that money comes from? Oh sure they jokingly say "oops, we emptied the bank on this giant party" and Nami beats them on the head, but then we turn the page and nothing happens. (I have nothing against parties.. really)
She gives allowances for Chopper to buy medicine, for Usopp to buy tools, Sanji for fancy food, Luffy for, well, lots of meat. The only thing she buys for herself are new t-shirts. Suppose she did end up using up all the money the crew had tin order o buy off Camie, then look at the balance, when was she selfish?
She may be control freak when it comes to money, but she doesn't begrudge the crew at all when its needed. It kind of reminds me of the dorm treasurer who manages the dorm fees everyone contribute and the frat boys complain that it's not all spent on beer pong even though there is quite a lot of that going on already. But everyone actually gets what they need and is still able to party pretty much all the time. The treasurer should get credit for that, but instead gets called a "selfish bitch".
Nami wouldn't mind though, since she does like that facade, but I guess I do
