When I first heard of this, I didn't think it would be any good. I just passed it off as just another anime rip-off. But, one day when I was flipping through channels, I saw it, and I was absolutely impressed! Avatar is one of the best psuedo animes that I've seen, even if it has its flaws.
Avatar: The Last Airbender/Legend of Korra

I positively love that show. My favorite bending is water cause my favorite element is ice. Man I got into the show so fast… I just wish they'd make more episodes soon...
-
same here.. i really like avatar, its just so amazing. its what i define Amernime (american anime) lol
-
I love Avatar!!!! That big buffalo(Appa)and the monkey(Momo) are soooooo Cute!!!! <3
-
Alot of fangirls that I meet online can't get enough of Zuko!
-
I watched one episode of this, I hated it, I hate Nick period. I hope one day Cartoon Network buys out Nick and not even air any of it shows and it will never be heard of again, but that will never happen, but I admire you guys opinions it looks like a good show I just can't get into it, it don't catch my intrest bone.
-
Well that's a downer. Dude don't tell me you didn't grow up with at least one Nick show… Rugrats?? Doug?? Catdog?? Blues Clues?? Anything??
-
aww doug i remember that show. lol. im excited for the new season tho. when is it going to air dammit
edit: wow I just made an edit that I posted like 2 years ago. My grammer sucked.
-
Beh, my favorite show on Nick used to be Zim, until it got put off air. I think it taken off because mothers complained about the "organs" episode.
Avatar is okay. Not extraordinary, but not bad either.
Favorite episode was the one with Jet in it.
-
oh invader zim kicked ass. i think its still on on nicktoons :)
-
aww doug i rember that show. lol. im excited for the new season tho. when is it going to air dammit
Where was it said there was going to be a new season of Doug?
Talking about Doug reminds me of a topic on another board about MS painted Doug into wacky situations. Thought it would be funny to share the collection of pictures, some may be offensive.
-
Even though I would love to know myself. This is about "Avatar" so why don't you make a new thread about it…
-

sry to post this here but omg go to pic #72 its the funniest thing on earth. omg hahhahaha
-
I happened to see a little bit of the show tonight and I liked it. Are new episodes still being shown for it.
-
I thought it would be another american anime-style cartoon, like totally spies or whatever else are there, but I found it really interesting! It was really cool too, and I lvoe airbending!!! its so cool! it kinda reminds me a lil of naruto. sokka looks so similar to shikamaru!
-
yeah but shikamaru kicks ass lol
-
yeah he does!!!
I just hope sokka will get to become a better fighter…and maybe learn some bending...dunno which of the elements.... -
Man has Aang come a long way from his basic Air bending. That was amazing what he did on Friday…
-
Yeah; seriously! I had no idea there was a new episode yesterday. It's been so long, too. Good thing I saw it this morning, though. It's cool that they showed Aang's true power.
-
what there was a new episode noooooooooooooooooooooooooo. i missed it :( also in the new thing does it say book two finally
-
Actually, they're still on the first season. This episode was more of a filler; it didn't have Zuko or anything.
-
Did anyone see last night's episode? It wasn't the best, but it was good. Let's just say that it focuses more on Sokka and Katara than Aang.
-
I agree. This show is amazing. Which is exactly why it will be cancelled within the forthcoming weeks.
-

Hey, hey, hey; there's no need to be so rude. It won't be; they ordered four seasons of the show. If you don't like the show so much, then don't come spamming on this thread just to say that you hate it.

Oh, no no no. You got me all wrong. I wasn't trying to bash the show. I meant it will be cancelled because it's on Nickelelodeon and they have this horrible habit of cancelling good shows to make room for more Spongebob or whatever.
I really love this show, and hope it stays on for a long time. I'm sorry I sounded like a jerk. I wasn't trying to troll your thread or nothing. =)
-
yeah tho i think it has enough popularity for now. and will u please change your avatar/ sig its anooying.
-
Yeah; it sucks that Nick cancels good shows to make room for ones that jumped the shark, Spongebob being one of them. I mean, just look at what they did to Invader Zim. It was funny, but I think it got cancelled because it was "inapropriate for kids" or something like that.
Let's just hope that the episode stories still stay strong, and it doesn't go downhill. Friday's episode was a perfect example of a well written one.
-
I've watched it long enough, and I don't think it's anything amazing. I can't simply be impressed because "Wow, it's anime, but it's made in America!!" That doesn't appeal to me anymore, since so many now are doing the same. The story, yet kind of interesting is just bland. It doesn't have a plot in which you know what the goal is, it's just "The avatar, wow, people want him dead." And the elements thing has been done so many times, you just can't be amazed by the fact that people can control fire and water anymore. Just look at One Piece though, characters stretch, chop themselves up, turn themselves into blades, and sprout hands out of anywhere, that's original.
When I look at Avatar, I seem the same old stuff; an adventureous youth, a girl out to prove herself, and a lazy ass. When you look at it, it's just nothing new or original, and it's not going to make me like it simply by the fact that it's an anime look-a-like.
-
and will u please change your avatar/ sig its anooying.
No can do, amigo.
Dragon Warrior, I can understand how you feel, but you must understand that others, such as myself, like Avatar because it's one of the more serious attempts at animation by an American studio. It may be cliche at some points, but what's important is how it's executed, and Avatar succeeds in that respect. This show doesn't insult a person's intelligent like most of the garbage out on the networks right now.
Also, Senshi, you said they ordered FOUR seasons of the show? Is this true?
-
I find myself liking Avatar: The last Airbender.
Not because it looks like an anime lookalike, but more because it brings back the good ole "Adventurous youth, questing girl and lazy one" plot. What can I say: sometimes it's nice to go back to basics.
-
@Hellmaster:
Also, Senshi, you said they ordered FOUR seasons of the show? Is this true?
So…yeah, about my question?
-
Actually; it was two more seasons. I heard somewhere they the "books" are the seasons, and they plan to do three.
-
Oh man; Friday's episode was freaking awesome! It really showed that Sokka is smarter than people give him credit for. It mainly focused on Aang, and a new character. I'm not talking about "Jet", but a newer episode. And we get to see some of Kitara's true waterbending.
-
May I agree that Hellmaster's sig and avatar are really annoying and slightly offensive?
That said, I LOVE Avatar: the Last Airbender. Not because it looks "anime" but because it's an American animation that brings back some of the good stuff. Y'know, from the good old days when American animators weren't bullied by the soccer moms to make sweet, friendly, "no naughtiness!" cartoon crap.
Yeah, Avatar is obviously influenced by anime, but most importantly it has a good plot and likeable characters. It doesn't just try to skim by by adapting all the anime "quirks" like SD faces and such. And the animators actually went to the Shaolin temple to see martial arts in action. Kudos for devotion!
Avatar for me is like the new Gargoyles. And it KILLS me that I am in Japan and can't watch the new episodes!!!!
-
…
hmm watching avatar or being in japan...hmmm
ILL THINK ILL TAKE JAPAN!
ill switch with you if you really want lol
-
(Am I the only one who finds that ava/sig sort of ironically amusing?)
(not sure they're meant that way, but… heh.)I like Avatar: The Last Airbender quite a bit, actually. It's definitely suffering from a hefty dose of cliche and I've Seen This Before, plotwise and themewise; but on the other hand, the writing is very professional. The jokes work, the characters are compelling, and the animation? The animation is beautiful. Hybrid American/Japanese, with the steady cel techniques combined with high frame rate. There're less dramatic, cinematic shots than in your average anime; but the faces are more animated than your average anime. Hybrid.
Basically, it's a show to watch for character (Sokka!!! and Iroh.) and humor (um... also Sokka...).
I'm looking forward to seeing where they go with it. It's certainly a kids' show, but a good one; there's nothing wrong with children's literature. (After all, One Piece is, too!)Nice to see other fans on this board. :)
(Edit: Satsuki: er... so... coughBT)

Not as glamorous as you might think. I'm in Kyoto, which means I don't get the TV Tokyo station, which means I can watch almost NO ANIME! The only anime I get is One Piece, the Snow Queen, and the regulars like Crayon Shin-chan and Sazae-san.
-
I love Avatar. Its even better than those other anime rip-offs.
-
Yesterday was the season finale. For those of you who didn't see it, I won't say much, except a character dies.
-
That was quite a good episode. I'm looking forward to the next season.
-
Well that's a downer. Dude don't tell me you didn't grow up with at least one Nick show… Rugrats?? Doug?? Catdog?? Blues Clues?? Anything??
Spongebob Square Pants = funniest show on earth XD
and yes, Avatar is also great !
-
Yeah, with the finale they really went out with a bang. Next season we'll be seeing Zuko's sister, and Aang will probably learn more firebending, along with earth.
-
Great Finale. I think the next season will be the Book of Earth since I think he'll learn Fire-Bending last.
Even though he still has to master Water-Bending. He has Katara to help him.
They killed a character off in a Nickelodeon cartoon. Impressive.
-
@Senshi:
Next season we'll be seeing Zuko's sister
They were showing The Storm again earlier today and it showed her during Zuko's "duel" with the Fire Lord. She's right next to Iroh and Zhao, but in such a way that it makes her look like a bystander. Of course, now that I know that's what she looks like, it's easy to pick her out.
They killed a character off in a Nickelodeon cartoon. Impressive.
Several actually. I was also impressed by their willingness to throw around the words "kill" and "dead".
! If you were looking for something on April 1st, it's not here.
-
What I meant to say is that she'll have a role in the next season. Supposedly, she'll be going after Zuko and Iroh along with Aang, Kitara and Sokka.
-
great fending for the season. I was suprised too how much the used kill and dead. It was sweet tho. Also what happened to that guys son (the uncle)? I just hope this show doesnt get cancelled for too much violence roll eyes.
-
I just hope this show doesnt get cancelled for too much violence roll eyes.
Then the fans will go crazy like they did when Invader Zim was cancelled for pretty much the same reason (There was the episode where Keef had his eyes ripped out and replaced with mechanical ones.) Plus all the dark moments such as Zim and Dib turning into meat with that dark music playing in the background "Meats Of EVIL."
Of course, kids today would love Zim because of G.I.R's funny lines.
HI FLOOR, make me a sammich!
WHY PIGGY WHY? I LOVED YOU!
-
Awww i loved invader zim ;-; id wish theyd make new ones
-
Zim is on the NickToons channel now. If Avatar gets cancelled, it may wind up there.
NickToons has all the good (and sometimes disturbing) Nick stuff now.
-
@Senshi:

Oh, I didn't think that you had meant that we had never seen her before, just that they introduced the character a long time ago without us realizing who she was.
I like when shows do things like that.
