7 bucks. Not bad.
So I went and played the demo.
I pretty much had the same kind of reaction I had when I first played the Mass Effect 2 demo. Which is sorta indifference.
It's hard to play a demo for a game that is meant for the player to invest a lot of time into to truly be rewarding. I was too critical on certain things. But I'll leave the story alone until I play more.
The gameplay was very good. It was actually challenging. When I fought the ogre the second time (not beefed up), I really really had a tough time. So then I took a different strategy. I started off with the templar girl (forgot her name) and drew all the small darkspawn around me and soaked damage, while I had hawke (rouge) handle the and distract the ogre. This left my now safe mage to go to fireball-town on the group surrounding the shield bearing templar. I had to take a potion every now and then, but in the end… i then ganged up on the orge and survived the battle with everyone.
I really like the focus on abilities and the visceral nature of combat (really bloody and violent. nice!), but I did notice that a lot of the time, if I left a person in auto mode for too long... they'd get killed QUICK. It got a bit irritating. I really hope the AI can keep up well.
It would be cool to see multiplayer like Saurs said... but in the scope of how this (and ME) games work... it would not pan out well. It would have to be some kind of different mode that has no plot.
