I very much enjoyed Toriyama's Kintoki.
I don't want to call it subtle by any means, but Toriyama's gags were all smoothly delivered . It was just this very silly, classic Toriyama one-shot.
Oh, and "Gee, this old guy is the only one who's a match for Toki and he's wearing sunglasses. I wonder if he is an Aurumoculi."
That was played as a gag really
A lot of Toriyama to me isn't "laugh out laugh hahaha" funny, but just a series of silly setups stringed together. It's what he does best.
man. Moon Walker was a giant pile of gay shit.
1. the main characters were wearing the gayest costumes, saying the gayest things, holding hands, being handcuffed, wearing collars, being wet, and generally acting like prince of tennis characters.
2. the "action" was uninspired and badly drawn. was that supposed to be a kick near the end? I don't think the guy can draw anything other than tennis action and sweaty boys.
3. except, he fucks up big time in a couple of spots. http://mangastream.com/read/one_shot/71884702/6 Good god, look at his emaciated arm in this one.
3. the villain was so one-dimensional it wasn't even funny. She was just a bad boss and kills people with her "rare item", which sounds like she's gloating over some rare drop in an mmorpg.
4. Nothing in this made any fucking sense. Why was this super inventor arrested? why didn't they check to see who the fucker was? how did he get out of his cuffs and produce drinks? I don't care if you know how they were made, that doesn't mean that you can get out of them. why did that police guy get arrested? how did they get into eachother's cages? why does the lady kill people after they bring back some gold? does that make any sense? why goes gaia manage to avoid this? how was his air supply cut? how did he make it back up with a shit tone of gold? again, why wasn't he killed like the other guys were? why would they randomly hide in a boat, leaving the enemy time to form a blockade? why does the policeman even talk about his issues? why is it okay to electrocute people, but not shoot them? why was his collar on the ship? why did the collar explode? was that supposed to be a kick? did it incapacitate all of the guards at once, or what? how did he tie the thing to the propeller? why why did he rip his arm off? when was he handcuffed to the lady? Did they just kinda leave and go off random places after that? Who the hell was that trap halfway through? Does any of this make any fucking sense?
5. did I mention that a main character named gaia, with a tatoo that says something about a young moon on his cheek, wearing leather that doesn't cover his abs, arms, or sides, handcuffed, calling another man "hot stuff", is the gayest thing since the last chapter of naruto.
I know that this one was for the ladies, but c'mon. it was confusing and pointless garbage.
Moonwalker struck me as something I'd start reading the first volume or so and then stop cuz that shit is boring and doesn't have that feeling of excitement or intrigue most good manga are capable of.
The main character being the type of genius that as the trump card of facing ppl that use weapons he created would get old quick. Plus this type shallow genius protagonist is lame. I still didn't even get why he was in the prison anyway. I was thinking it'd be revealed that when that Roy guy communicated with his unit they sent in Gaia but that guy was just there to be there.
I didn't even bother with Moonwalker cause prince of tennis sucked from the get go.
I liked kintoki, Bankara and Bench.
Kintoki felt like one of the first chapters of Dragonball.
It sure wasnt bad, but Akiyama didn
t changed a bit from his usual style.
Same backrounds, same type of characters (just look at DB\Sandmann as main protagonist)
I just remembered I couldn't even get through Bench. Just stopped reading 4 or 5 pages in. Deciding not to waste my time.
Moon walker was average and slightly confusing no ones motivations were explained stuff just seemed to happen for the sake of it
Kintoki was a dissapointment. Nothing innovative, just a rehash. Damn, Toryiama, do something AMAZING!!!!
I don´t want to say it was trash, but it was…average :/
Moon Walker was somewhat cool. Even if there were many irregularities, but hey, not that bad...
I also think Bankara was the best out of the three...again, not entirely original, but it was pretty cool, some good jokes as well (even if a lot not understandable for a non japanes readership..).
I´m curious which ones get serialized :)
And I didn´t read Bench either, Zik xD
Not really interested in sports manga =D
man. Moon Walker was a giant pile of gay shit..
Thank you.
That was a chore to read after the fun time i had with Kintoki. But then again, "Mr. Fujoshi" Konomi is an AWFUL mangaka. Only thing he knows how to do is pleasing fangirls.
If we take out all of the homolust from Moonwalker then I would love to read a manga about the leader of a tech producing company whose innocent items get warped into killing machines. Not to mention treasure hunting and Mcguyver.
Seriously the guy built a gun from scraps. That would be a pretty awesome shtick.
But there was to much homolust. I don't care too much about it but when you find out the only females in the manga are traps, then it starts to bother me.
So is Toriyama trying to make a series with Kintoki?
Bumping this thread to ask if anyone else has read Enma Gavel? I just got in my weekly jump with the thousand sunny cutout in it, and I seen this and thought it was amazing looking. After reading the scanlation I found it to be severely epic, so I was wondering if any of you read it too and agreed it should be made into an on-going series. Especially since it was more of a 'Chapter 1' than a 'One-Shot'
yes Enma Gavel is a great series with great potential
