! Angel from the Oracion Seis
going to have to give the anime team credit (for once) for doing their homework since I don't think they ever stated in the manga that she was one of the slaves (only in a Q&A I think).
The hints just continue to drop that we'll only be getting so far in the anime.

About Exceeds, no one said they're only cat like, there may be alot of species, panther exceeds, tiger, lion…etc. Exceedds are felines with wings i'd say, not cats with wings.
Or we can assume they "evolve" after training, but that seems kind of lame so i prefer my firdt tought... -
I just started this last Friday and am already just starting the Edoras arc (just read 169). I don't think it's been too bad outside of the tons of flaws the Oracion Seis arc had. Didn't mind Gerard/Jellal until he returned with convenient amnesia in that arc. Still don't mind Mystogan having Jellal Failnandes' face. Only major flaw I have with this manga is the lack of focus on guild members outside the main characters (not caring that the plot attempts to be deeper than it is; I'm reading for fun, not depth). Does it really hurt Mashima's brain that much to think up like one mini-arc per guildie? Just something that gives more backstory than their coverpage like Loki's arc did.

Yeah, just something little, cover story, mini arc, hell even a special chapter, for the others would be nice. I get that he's focusing on the main characters, but we could use with a bit more of the others outside the occasional interactions when the mains are at the guild hall…

Ya know, I'm going to accuse Erza's new armor. She seems to have a larger then average breastplate.
Despite complaints and earlier stupidity, I'm actually excited for a full Erza vs Erza fight. She an awesome character after all, and I just can't come to expect that this guy will let that chance slip away. Hell, the fact that this other Erza was previously beaten, and just killed Lily might make the fight even more brutal. The massive dragon army is also pretty badass. Yep, the potential for greatness high.
I missed in the first read that Mistgun was a prince of this land. Meh, I just hope is doesn't result in two arcs in a row with Erza losing Gerald. Cause that'd be ridiculous. Speaking of ridiculous, another else think that Panther Lily going to be healed, the side effect being that he becomes a tiny useless (though relatively badass) cat like Happy and Charle?
Lastly, why was that beam that shot Lily so phallic. Why Mashima, why.

Episode was pretty decent. Followed pretty closely, with the exception of the few changes we talked about last episode that were carried into this one and will be for the rest of the arc.
The chapter was at least better than the last few. I know most of you people hate Jerard/Jellal, but you have to at least admit that Mystgun being rescued by Lilly is an interesting twist that wasn't expected.

You know as much as I find the FT manga to be flawed I would stil kind of be pissed if they ended after the OS arc and never ever even show Gildartz .
I mean them not finishing Rave is horseshit enough .

Somehow I picture him with a voice similar to this:
If you're not familiar with Yu-Gi-Oh!, all you need to know is the guy in this video is a Hollywood actor, and I can somehow picture a voice like that coming from Sugarboy.
But then again, they could have a gayer voice.. it could be funny I suppose.

Seeing how FT is not realy plot oriented , making filler shouldn't be that dificult .

well fairy tail at least has some general behind the scenes overall needed to be addressed at some point, such as the missing dragons dealing with that 7 number and also with whatever that dudes name was gerard was trying to summon (even though we find out he is later alive).
oh and i guess that evil guild that has that time magic chick in it.
but otherwise it is a very free manga like naruto in the sense that it can just throw in random missions for filler. as long as they do it right and throw one in randomly at times and not get backed up and need to throw in 20 of them

That's Mashima's style, it's just like Rave. First he begins with random arcs, then slowly it gets closer and closer to the main plot, then it's another bunch of arcs but this time all related to the main story.

But Rave was only 100 chapters longer than what FT is now. The "main plot" of this 4 year old series is taking its time to get here.

just saying. it is annoying when people compare manga to each other, and when they do it they compare both present time. like one piece 589 to fairy tail 189. um hello one piece has 400 chapters more of story building behind it, they are not fair to compare.

One Piece didn't even get an overarching storyline beyond ''search for the MacGuffin'' until it was nearly ten years old. There were some small seeds planted, but didn't bloom until then.

I like how I've been reading the reactions from the last thread to the chapters I've been reading and once again in this thread we have the "_____ in Fairy Tail is so much like _____ from insert other series here" comments followed by, once again, the point Sammsy makes of the series being different and comparisons being stupid. FT thread goes in cycles, much like FT's arcs go by a checklist, so could the thread.

I loved Luxus arc and Phantom Lord.I still am just at the beginning of the Edoras arc, but I agree those 2 arcs are best. Oracion Seis was the worst I've read. Everything else was ok, some bordering on good, others bordering on bad. Tower of Paradise wasn't that bad when read all at once, but it was lower quality than most of the other stuff.

TOP suffers from having Gerard as the main antagonist due to his bishie blandness , and most of the enmies being horrible .
Like Ikaruga's undefeatable sword fighting being just….... defeated .
Or the Lluvia thing .
And the fact Fukurou got wasted . A huge guy with an owl's head , whose obsesed with justice even when he's an assasin , who flies around on a rocket and EATS PEOPLE .

Jellal was an incredibly uncompelling antagonist.
That was really my only complaint. But I guess it's a substantial one.
Oh wait, Jellal's last-second heel turn was an obvious ass-pull to keep Erza alive.

what was rave 300 chapters, lets say fairy tail ends up being 500 or more. obviously when rave is knee deep in heavy storyline and even getting to its conclusion, fairy tail could be just starting to put its feet in.
Right now fairy tail has barely put its toes in the water with just big far away names and faces that haven't directly influenced our characters yet from the dragons, to the worst dark guild to the guy gerard was trying to revive, but was never dead. Yea we have heard of them, but that is about it. they haven't affected our guys yet. Hell if we were ready to delve into the bigger story, natsu would have ran straight after that black dragon, but he and the author are not ready yet for that.
also many other smaller thigns like raven tail, luxas, even starting s class or higher quests. we are as i said still it feels in learning the world and characters stage, and hinting to people who will be in bigger picture someday, but right now we have no idea what will be in the picture besides a few faces.

I think it's kind of funny that Ikaruga is the only one of Trinity Raven that I wasn't disappointed in the fight with.
Rocker dude should have been more epic and the Juvia being mind-controlled bit should have resulted in an actual fight, not a cliched cop out "I care about my friends enough to kinda break the mind-control" followed by likely never seen again deus ex combo attack of doom "Union Raid" or whatever.
And agreed completely on Fukurou; he was my biggest disappointment that arc.
Those flaws didn't really break the arc for me, because they were minor fights handled within a chapter or two and didn't cause any huge plot failings. Though it came close to ruining the arc for me because of how many flaws the handling of those 2 villains had. The only reason TOP would get bumped down for me would be unfair retroactive hate due to Jellal returning in the Oracion Seis arc with that horrid plot-convenient amnesia…

I don't usually care when lame enemies get beaten easily. It's not like Hiro makes much memorable side bosses. Besides that, I sorta enjoyed Tower of Pardise. Not as much as the current arc, or Cursed Island(though it was dull as hell), and Phantom Lord though.
Battle of FT was a huge mess for me. Laxus is just a stereotypical dick with no layers I seen a million times. That, and I found the fights a bit boring. The OS arc is alot worse though.
To me, FT works when the enemies seem intimidating using forces that expand on thier own abilities. That's what I liked about Phantom Lord. The loss of thier guild, the huge mechanical building, and fights with potential FT members. I didn't care how long or how good the fights themselves were. Heck, I didn't really care about the screentime minor background FT members(Mira and her brother) got.
This arc almost has that feeling, but it kinda fell between Natsu thinking he was funny making a shadow rabbit, to the middle the middle where Mistgun is vaguely hinted as the leading hero(even though he was going to give up the guild anyway), and finally every single word the Queen of the Exceed said.

At least with Gildartz appearance we'll get involved in main plot a think, i'm kind of tired of those continuous arcs.
Question, do you think Exceed are somewhat related to Dragons ? That's what i tought a while ago (eggs, only Dragon slayers…etc) but after Edoras and Charle's incident i was disappointed, n=but then again in 188 there was this

You know we had spent all this time building up the world they live in I would say "sure go ahead" . But nothing not directly concerning Fairy Tail has hapened in this series till now . The whole world revolves around it , and it's made ven worse when most of it's characters never get panel time and never do anything and yet there are constantly more of them !

The amnesia was shit on a stick , but the worst problem with the arc were :
Horrible villian being just as horrible even after a GOD upgrade ,
hyped up Nightmare was defeated using bare hands , barely , after two whole chapters ,
Zero had no personality beyond "I wanna destroy stuff" or being more precise "I wanna destroy stuff and even if it's dead it's stil not dead cause it's stil there , I wanna destroy it completely" yet he lets all of the characters alive after he defeats all of them single handedly ,
good ideas (aliance of three guilds against aliance of three dark guilds) turned to shit with lame characters (plus lame-fest that is Wendy)
and finaly an unbelievabely shody , shity and untkinkabely illogacl asspull retcon of "Oh the guild never existed"
Regardles that it somehow participated in a guild meeting

Regardles That these so called illusions were seen to be afraid for their lives when no body else was around
Regardles that Zero knew about CS yet at the last second Lucy said "O , I never heard of you" .

That's usually the whole point with illusion users. As soon as their tricks are bypassed, they collapse like a house of cards. And after Naruto and Bleach have taught us to hate illusions, that was the best option to take.
Really, I take what I can get with Mashima. He can pull some cool and creative stuff, but some other aspects of his storytelling and planning, well…Like pulling the whole ''all just a dream'' device with Erza, but stopping when realizing what that would mean for, oh, everything else.

Her life and all the people and stuff with it would be just a dream. Imaginary, basically. Mashima mentioned it in the author notes or something in Vol. 10, but I haven't read what he said for myself, just read about it second hand.
