He has something to do with the story planning, but one of the anime staff writers is writing it. I doubt it'll be long before we see him writing a movie though.

I read up to chapter 100 something before i couldn't take much more anyone got any reason why I should keep reading. I know shanks is badass but thats not enough for me. I was also disappointed Mistgun was madara and thunderboy was exiled from the guild. I need help finding a reason to keep reading fariy tale, I don't mind spoilers.

Alright, so according to volume 16 where Mashima provided the official English spelling of the names, Charle is now Carla. How can it be? How can シャルル be CARLA? That would be Carla with an extremely weird pronounciation, I guess. I thought Carla would be カルラ or カーラ. So even if the spelling is Carla, it would have to be pronounced "Sharlu" at best.
Some Japanese speakers around in this discussion who might have an explanation for this, because I have a hard time seeing how a native Japanese like Mashima would be wrong in his katakana? -

That cover is odd…Something that's always bothered me about a lot of character designs in anime is characters that constantly wear flip flops or impractical sandals. I really dislike it on Natsu, it always drove me nuts in Naruto. But they at least are booty or ankle strapped so they can't fall off...And Luffy I let slid cause his shoes are usually gone after a tough fight. They must just have a closet full of them.
It's so aggravating I know I shouldn't be judging fantasy stuff like that but ugh. It's the same reason why I hate when they put women in heels in action movies...it's stupidly impractical.

It's funny, because I was ragging this girl at work for wearing 6 inch heels… was telling her she could be a kickboxing ninja with those... just add daggers to the heels.
But Luffy wears sandals because Shanks does. Shanks does it cause he's a lazy, laid-back guy. Traditionally, in Japan, some people wear wooden sandals called Geta, though they're usually worn in formal occasions, when Kimono or Yukata are worn. Plus, they also wear special slipper/sandal like shoes when they're indoors, even in public places.
The heel thing though... yeah. I thought the Doublefinger vs. Nami fight was really awkward because of that...

Hey, I liked this chapter. I thought what Erza said to Gerard was a really nice statement. "Being alive is a sign of strength." I like that. Not to mention he needed to be slapped for being a terribly annoying character.

Jokes aside the erza and gerard scene was very cheesy. Happy saved the chapter for me.

at the end was ERZA also being upgraded, but she was just seen taking it like a man? Is that what Meredy said?
Otherwise typical cheezy hollywood romance, where characters trip and fall on each other all seductively.
One question though regarding this powerup thing, did Ultear upgrade her time magic so that she can effect living beings now? Sure seems like it. I know before she said it couldn't affect humans, but now it seems it can. Or is this a different kind of magic that is doing this? ANd if she can affect humans now, can she turn natsu into a geezer or an infant?

Dammit, I saw the two pages at the beach first and expected to hate this chapter. But yeah, it was actually decent. The last page was legitimately funny and I cant find no faults in this.
Also, page 18. I'm not sure what to make of it. Either, 1: Mashima is trying out a new kind of fanservice and I should fear the future of this manga moreso then usual, or 2: It's just a joke, meaning this entire "training" will be done mostly off panel as a joke which is actually new and refreshing. At the very least, at least Natsu is suffering and Erza didn't lose her personality to some lame romance with Gerald.

I don't know about you guys but I found this chapter pretty god awful. An entire chapter of a badly done romance with Gerard pissing on our faces the entire way. Blegh.
