I recall looking at one where the artist knew about the ranking system in JUMP, and asked everyone who read the series to mark Oumaga down as #1 on the voting sheet.

So much potential indeed. Such a shame it didn't work out in the JUMP ranking system. Most near improbable scenario: An anime series which allows Horikoshi to continue the series for a while.

Anyway, since his new series seems to be about space, it sounds like a call for wicked character designs for aliens!

When it came to character designs I honestly thought that Oumagadoki was the only series (from what I read) that had as much individuality as One Piece.

Seconding this. No two characters looked the same. Plus, most of the animals were truly anthromorphic with their own distinctive features. That giraffe design was pretty crazy. All the marine life's designs were cool too.

I'd have to say, the Aquarium arc was my favourite arc throughout the whole series. The battles were interesting and had neat facts about animals and sea creatures that I didn't know. For example, the fact that spider crabs aren't limited to walking sideways like regular crabs. Or how fast rushing tunas are.

I thought VS.Circus arc had better fights but lacked in the build up.

Bad sign that the series was going to end, but a good sign that he's improving.

No signs of extra character designs in vol 5 so far, according to fanarts, so we'll never know what Horikoshi had planned after the circus arc. slams head WHY MUST I DEPRESS MYSELF?

Pretty interesting how fanartists design the human versions of the animals based on their anthromorphic designs. Most of the time people can guess who they are by their hairstyles XD

Saw the raws of Horikoshi's one-shot "Space Boy Bulge" and what do I see on the first page? A giant space whale. (I think I'll head over to my little corner and lament.) I like how not one person caught on to Director's secret despite all his mischief. Well unless you count the guy at the fan shop. Technically he did see even if he thought it was his imagination. You know what I would have loved to see had this series continued? Those kids who were teasing her and trying to ruin the flyers coming to the zoo.

Personally, I'd love to see a bunch of idiot kids/adults come to the zoo and egg on all the animals/characters, lol. Imagine all the chaos that could happen~ But yeah, I'd love to see those kids come back.

Especially if they were all taking a nap, outside of their cages, in their original animal forms, haha. (It'd be even more hilarious of Hana and Shiina were leaning on the animals while sleeping, too.) Imagine the kid's reactions to Hana sleeping next to a lion, a rhino, snakes, a gorilla, a wolf, a cheetah and so many other animals.

Oh man, you mean the chapter where Shiina and Hana go to the city? That was a fun chapter to read, 'cuz that's the first time we ever see Shiina wandering around the city. Traffic cone for the win!

Now this got me thinking, what ever happened to the families of him and Isana, and how old were they when they received the curse? Shiina stated that he got cursed when he was a kid and by the pictures, he must've been around 8 or 10. As for parents, he probably was an orphan somewhere in the countryside. Isana, on the other hand, was probably in his late teens, around 18 since he's capable of shooting with a firearm. Parents? They were probably rich, which would explain why Isana was able to bring a firearm on a whale-watching boat and his unhealthy obsession with hating sea creatures. Poor young master, I bet you were lonely all along and money was the only thing you had for comfort.

But yeah. The chapter where Shiina was trying to make friends after he got cursed as a kid was just sad... and then he started crying. ;__; thankfully that hawk guy came. I can see why he loves his friends so much.

Isana, though... hm. He's a strange one. But him being rich does explain how he got a giant aquarium in the first place.

@__sai-chan__ From what I know, only Hana's mother has been mentioned in passing. Other than that, nothing else but a random thought/scenario where Hana's parents decided to visit to zoo to see how their daughter was doing. OMG, it would be hilarious and awesome if the parents found out the secret, and of course they'll let their daughter stay because "sniff my daughters growing up so fast, I know it'll be safe for her to stay here and work because it's what she loves doing". XD

Oh little Shiina, such a sad scene. All he wanted was friends. Although, did he actually gathered all the animals by travelling around the world by foot? He can sort-of run across water, but the ocean is pretty big. I'm not entirely sure if he was able to hitch a ride on a plane across the world. Did he say that he found Shishido in africa?

There's soooo many things you can speculate about Isana. There was already an aquarium in Ushimitsu when he was cursed, so he just took over it (you gotta wonder how he did it if it was already open). But if he was using money from his bank account, wouldn't such actions notify his parents if they were looking for him after the 'boat' accident? Unless they didn't care at all (and that would tie into "money is everything and it's all I need" personality). Maybe he was neglected as a child and le gasp! all he wanted was love, but parents said money was better!:sad: :ninja:

OH, somebody asked Horikoshi about Sakamata's age on twitter! But Horikoshi didn't say because it would be unfair to those who don't visit twitter. :sad:

Started reading this (just finished chapter 9) because of all the raving people were doing on the Sensei no Bulge thread. I am seriously enjoying this and honestly think it is more entertaining and creative than Bulge (though that series has loads of potential, it just feels like the mangaka simply wanted to play it safe in the early chapters to grab readers and then make it zanier as it went along - if the end of chapter 7 is any indication at least.)

Bummer that it didn't make it. It could have been one of the greats.
