Oh, come on. You really think they're oblivious to that?

Yeah, they even said at one point in time before that the simulcast episodes will eventually surpass the DVDs by a little bit.
That is a completely different thing entirely!
This isn't someone downloading an episode through a url, its Funi releasing episodes without the DVD version being release. Sorta, like I dunno a TV airing. Remember how episodes aired before the DVD's were out on tv… oh wait.
I wonder… If the guy who did that shit got killed yet.
He almost ruined it for us.
Indeed. Pirating tv series and movies can only be rewarded with Capital Punishment. :ninja:
Meh. Fuck 'em .

I don't really see why people say stuff like this. I'm pretty sure that they are fully aware that they're uploading episodes that haven't been released yet.
They recently put ALL of the new Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood set on iTunes a week before it hit DVD and the first episode was free.
I think they know what they're doing.
It's a very common procedure, Luffy#1. Stop trying to make drama out of it.
Think of it as a DVD preview. An ad-filled stream that's only up for a few weeks is NOT going to affect DVD sales, you know.

Where was I making drama?
I am perfectly clear with it being a preview, I don't need to be treated like I just became a fan yesterday.
Phew, good to know I will most likely get to watch Episodes 183-186 dubbed before the DVD Release :).
I'm contemplating on whether I should buy the Funamation DVD's or not, but are they really worth the price to pay?
Don't get me wrong, I support One Piece very much by buying almost all the English Viz manga releases (intentionally missing/skipping volumes 6,12,13,15,16,34,35, & 51), but when it comes down to the anime, I just prefer the Japanese Subbed version better (Only Except for the Jaya Arc). Which brings me to my main problem. According to what I've discovered/read, The Funimation Season-Voyage DVD's can be played in either Dubbed English OR Japanese language with english subtitles. That's very nice, because that way I can both support the Funamation group (in a roundabout way) by buying the DVD releases, and then watch them in the Japanese Sub version on my TV at home. The big problem itself is that each Season-Voyage DVD releases has 13 episodes. That may not sound like a problem, but I feel that I'll waste money buying the DVD's for only a few episodes.
For Example, let's say that I wanted only the Kuro Arc on DVD. That's episodes 9-18. In order to complete that Arc, I would have to not only buy the Season One First Voyage DVD (1-13), but also the Season One Second Voyage DVD (14-26) as well. That would leave me with a lot of unecessary episodes left over that I most likely wouldn't watch at all (like the Morgan Arc, Buggy Arc, & Baratie Arc), thus wasting my money. It may be a marketing idea, but I don't want to buy multiple Season-Voyage DVD's only to have a handful of episodes on each one. on the other hand, it would be nice to watch the Japenese Sub episodes on my TV where I can pause, rewind etc. instead of online. Kinda Understand?
So I dunno what to do…..

The problem seems to be that you don't want to own this whole series, you only want your favorite bits and pieces of it.
When I bought first voyage, I didn't go "Oh yay, I'm getting the first couple episodes of the Kuro arc!" I thought "Oh yay, I'm getting the first 13 episodes of the series!"
What's wrong with owning the Romance Dawn episodes? What's wrong with Owning the Buggy Arc? Even though you're only getting a couple of episodes of the Kuro arc, you're still getting 8 other awesome episodes.
Regardless, if you wait until Amazon and/or Right Stuf have a sale, you can get them for uber-cheap. I've seen sales as low as 10-15 bucks.

Mind = Blown
I'm not one of those people who can wait for very long 8D I guess you pay double for impatience! Hahaha..
To be honest Mr 333, the voyages may zip by, but there are still quite a handful on there. There's the textless songs, too, which is something of a bonus.
It's not like some anime in HMV, that are upwards of £30 for a bare few episodes :| coughgurranlagaancough

Exactly, Exactly, Exactly. Hit the nail on the head there.

Because I just know that I won't watch them. I might the first time around, but I won't consistently watch and enjoy every Anime episode like I would a favorite Arc or Favorite Fight or even a Manga Chapter. It's why I enjoy the Manga far better (Which I have a lot of).

I'll wait for now. I just came back from buying One Piece Viz Volumes 1, 24, & 25 at my local Barnes & Noble.
I don't think it's a waste of money because in Japan, don't they pay at least the equivalent of 50 USD for like three or four episodes per DVD?
Hell, that used to be the norm here (except it was maybe $25-$40 for three or four episodes) so you're actually getting a lot for your money now with these sets. Think of it that way.
If your lucky, you can buy 'em at a convention like I did for very cheap.

yeah, up until last month when they released the last Thriller Bark volume it was 3 eps for a few pennies less than $55 USD. Although starting this month with Shabondi, they're releasing 2 dvds per month with 4 eps, so 8 eps for about $110 USD.
So I'm guessing if anyone in Japan (or even outside of Japan) has collected every episodic dvd they've released so far (eps 1-381), and paid retail price, I'm guessing they've spent close to $7000 on One Piece episodes alone.

Fix'd for stupid misspelled Word this forum can't ever seem to get right.
How is Sabaody pronounced in English anyway?
How is Sabaody pronounced in English anyway?
very good question. In japanese they pronounce it "Shabondy" right? That's how I've been calling it.

Saa-bow-dee?
At least that's how I say it.
Shabondy is the Japanese way to pronounce it though. I'm sure it's pronounced closer to what SnoCone posted.
Im glad im going to be watching the One Piece DVDs on Netflix since its getting too hard to collect the DVDs sometimes
right now they are up to S3,Box 3..so im going to be caught up with the US series soon :)

although this is sounding like this could be good as well for American pronunciation
….
um, if you want to get all wacky about it, email your complaints to CDJapan then
From a website that only got the Katakana to use for their catalog? Yeah, mistake makes sense.
Mistake that the majority of this forum keeps making despite the fact that everyone here has seen Oda write it in the Manga and Toei transcribe it the exact same way in the anime?
Yeah, EVERYONE should know better by now.
not everyone knows kana
シャボンディ if I'm not remembering it wrong
Referring back to those crazy expensive dvd's, I can't believe they sell at all. The manga volumes are only 400 yen, seems like an easy choice to me.
So I guess I must've missed something. Amazon.ca is listing Season 3 5th Voyage as coming out February 15th, it's using the cover art with Eneru's face looming in the background.
I thought that cover art was bumped back for 4th Voyage, though, and that 5th Voyage was delayed a few months? It's entirely possible Amazon.ca is simply behind on things, they often are, but this 5th Voyage was only listed in the past day or two.

If you see the cover art it says that it is "Season Three, Fourth Voyage" so we can assume that it is the cover of the 4th voyage of the third season, and yes Amazon is pretty late on updating these items.
Here's a link to RightStuf for correct info on both Fourth and Fifth Voyage:

That's kinda what I figured, just thought I'd make certain. Amazon.ca has dropped the ball a couple of times on me in the past two months (delaying my Cataclysm CE until I emailed them on it, being out of stock of the Scott Pilgrim boxset for the past month despite my pre-ordering well in advance). If I didn't live two hours away in the middle of nowhere from the nearest store that sold any of this stuff I wouldn't be relying on them at all.
Their shipping is still blisteringly fast, though, which is why I keep using them over Rightstuf. I'm sure Rightstuf is ideal for Americans, and maybe even most Canadians living in Ontario, but it took them weeks to get a DVD shipped to me and I still needed to pay an extra fee when it arrived which put its cost pretty much on par with Amazon.ca, yet taking much longer to get to me.
But anyway, digging that newer 4th Voyage cover art.

Yeah. I always wonder what is it that fueling the Japanese to spend about $50 bucks a pop for at tops 3 episodes when here in the US we can get 13 episodes in two languages with subtitles for on average the same price. That is dedication.
Well, really the Japanese DVDs don't have to sell. One Piece is one of the most popular properties in Japan. It airs on TV every week, and gets ad revenue (and i'm sure companies would pay big to advertise during one of the most popular shows in Japan), plus they get revenue from all the merchandise that's put out under the "One Piece" banner. Mostly, the DVDs in Japan are just a way for them to make money on the side.
Home video is just as much a part of merchandising as other elements are. The TV airings don't pay the bills all by themselves, espicially with the shorter breaks and self-promotion (One Piece or Dragon Ball merchandise commercials during the show doesn't leave much room for outside companies to buy commercial time).
So the merchandise like Chopper plushies, TV ad revenue and candy bars with Luffy and Chopper's face is what pays the bills while the DVDs are the things that Toei does to make some pocket change? If so interesting.

Actually that sounds about right. Do you know much money they get just to have Luffy or Chopper's face on anything (and pretty much everything)?
I wouldn't say the DVD's are pockey change, but its defiantly where they make their money back.
The lastest One Piece Podcast episode was really good. Also because it had the awesome Colleen interview, since i love the was she plays Luffy . I thought it was interesting to note that it was Toei's decision to have her make Luffy's voice deeper and Gruffer (just the way i like it ).
Anway it won't be to long now until S3 4V ships
Wow, I had no idea they interviewed Colleen! It's been a long time since I've listened to the Podcast. I love Luffy's FUNimation voice.

Oh I would think they are making some money off the DVD since they seem to be selling well as of recently. I remember that some of the Thriller Bark DVD sets been on the top selling list recently in Japan.
Also about how much money just to have Luffy or Chopper's face on something comment then I would think it is a lot.
Wonder how much for each crew member. haha

I haven't had the chance to get to listen to the interview with Colleen but that is interesting to hear that Toei has that much say in even how they perform. I knew Toei picked the cast but didn't know they provided performance advice.

Wow that's awesome, i'm curious on how she'll sound on the 5th voyage and later episodes
So anyone have a good idea when the next dvd is supposed to ship from RightStuf?

I think 5th voyage was dubbed at the same time as Skypiea.

Yep, it was, but it still has not been released anywhere yet! It is sorta of like it has been in the Disney vault for years!

Freakin hate Disney and their vault some times. All of the Disney Afternoon shows are exactly a single volume left from being completely. But for some unknown reason, Disney refuses to release ANY of the final volumes!

I know huh, I want the complete Aladdin tv series. but Disney isn't releasing anymore Disney afternoon show dvds cuz they failed to sell, they all tanked and can be found at discount bin for 10-15 bucks at my local best buy.
shame that we gotta wait another 3 months for Season 3 Fifth Voyage, even if it is filler, i still liked that arc in subbed, hopefully Funi have rights to Season 4, cause i read somewhere i while back they were trying to get it or something like that. Anyway i just picked Season 1, 4th Voyage or collection 4 as they call it here in Australia so im up to date with the aussie releases :D
For Austurlia fans, Boxset 7 (Episodes 79 - 91) is up for preorder.

Also for America, another new episode is up on One Piece Official. It looks like they did know they were starting to put up new episodes.
