While I want widescreens starting from 207, I will not complain too much if we get fullscreen masters for those early episodes that were released in 4:3 in Japan.

But if we start getting cropped masters for Enies Lobby +, I have to admit that I would be pissed. Royally. But at the same time, I would continue to buy the sets. But I'd probably just only buy them when they are on sale in that case.

Well, I guess I'm jumping the gun saying that this early. Just throwing that out there. Everyone has their own opinions on such picky matters I believe, but in my eyes cropped is editing in an uncut set.

I'm not too sure, but if 207+ were released in 4:3, I might actually hold off on buying them in hopes of later getting widescreen. What does scare me is the fact that 207-228 were only released on Fullscreen in Japan, and that means Toei could potentially float FUNi the fullscreen masters only for those episodes. Toei are sometimes jerks about that…

Could you confirm why we will get the widescreen masters on episode 229 and on?

Well if we want to be all technical about it, yes. But replacing onscreen text in English hardly compares to the actual video being cut off. With the former, you're still getting the exact same thing - just in English. With the latter, you're not getting the same thing, because half of the video is missing.

And yes, anything that has been made in widescreen just feels off when cropped. So let's cross our fingers and see what happens. Maybe we'll get more info from them in the future about it.

One of the things I especially don't understand about US broadcasting is why are most of their modern TV shows in 4:3. Seriously, we are in the widescreen era, we want to see things far more cinematic than before, just like in your local cinema theaters. We want to see it in HD. I also don't understand why are the DVD versions of One Piece in Japan cropped in 4:3, that's just wrong. I am in favor that FUNi should find a way to release episodes 207 onwards in widescreen and not fullscreen. If they don't then I won't point at FUNi, I'll point at Toei for being such fat bastards :K

For some reason, Toei broadcasted the series in Widescreen starting with the Davy Back Fight, but kept the DVDs fullscreen until Water 7.

I have no doubt we'll get Water 7 On the way Japan got it, in Widescreen. The only reason I'm worried about 207-228 is because those are the episodes that Toei themselves decided to put out in Fullscreen instead of Wide. So those are the only eps I'm worried Toei might only give FUNi FS masters for.

As we've been saying if you saw earlier conversations at all, Fullscreen masters have portions of the video (the edges) cut off. So they are bad - you're losing roughly an 1/8 of the video that way.

The DVDs from 229+ in Japan are widescreen then? If Japan got widescreen, then the US probably will as well. Just that 207-228 are in Fullscreen. >_>

There may be one light of hope in this.

In Japan, Dragon Ball Kai on DVD was released cropped into widescreen.
The Blu-Ray was not.

However the Funimation release has both the DVD and the Blu-Ray uncropped.

Yeah, but the whole point of it is that, whether or not you like it in fullscreen or widescreen, the original video is still being cut.

Wait… the DVDs are widescreen since Water 7? Then why the f**k did the international versions (German, Italian) still got cropped versions?! I thought the international versions are cropped because they are based on the DVDs, but the DVDs are widescreen since Water 7?

Don't hold your breath for Blu-Ray releases of the series. I think it's just way too long…and I highly doubt they would simply release Blu-Ray of the later episodes and leave the others in DVD...they'd maybe go back to put those on BD and then we'd have people double-dipping for the same episodes.:getlost: Personally, I'd only get the OP movies on BD, just because they do have a higher budget...and they won't eat as big of a hole in my wallet when compared to the series.

Just putting the series out on Blu-ray for the sake of putting it out on Blu-ray wouldn't work.
FUNi would have absolutely no reason to put One Piece episodes 1-206 out on Blu-ray because it was never produced in HD, so all they could do is upscale it, and most Blu-ray players ALREADY do that to DVDs automatically.

Episodes 207 on WERE produced in HD, and FUNi appears to be releasing everything they have that was produced in HD on Blu-ray. Dragon Ball Kai and FMA Brotherhood being prime examples.

The movies ALL got a Blu-ray release, but not the series (yet).

Though, Toei are currently re-releasing the series on Boxed sets (Vs the singles they started out releasing) so when the Box set "Logs" finally get to 207, we MAY see a Blu release start up for the series in JApan.

Yeah but those examples have had a tv brodcast in the past AND present so I am pretty sure those aren't "Prime" examples. And so far no series that has over 300 episodes have been released to BD from Funimation.

Didn't wana say too much to wait for when we put the interview up, But when I asked him that he said he wasn't positive, but he thinks G8 begins Season 4. Which would line up perfectly with everything else we know.
Like CN ordering the show in 52 episode blocks (104 episodes, by 4kids numbering, being Seasons 1-2, eps 143-195 being another 52 exactly)
And then the fact that CN Australia aired up to 195 and then stopped, meaning that was the end of the ordered season.

Although, he said FUNi might restructure the lines between the seasons for the DVD release. But that really raises another issue.

With CN no longer ordering One Piece, there really aren't any more "Seasons" being ordered. So, from now on, we should be going by what episodes are being worked on rather than "Seasons", as FUNi will now get to make up the seasons however they want now.

And what happens if Funi gets OP a tv deal? Would the seasons remain the same?

Granted we'd be so happy it wouldnt really matter in the end.

Well, it wouldn't bother me as much, in all honesty but i don't know i could care less but pretty sure Funi will have it widescreen, unless they can crop it all to fit but that would kind of mess the picture up.

Anyways Now I'd hate to go off topic but since we're somewhat discussing the Water 7 arc who do you think or who would you like to hear do Robin's younger voice or Nico Olivia, I can hear Cherami Leigh playing younger Robin, I'm not sure about the mom though and what do you think of Jaguar D. Saul's voice since we only heard a little piece of it in Movie 8.

Hmm…that might be just a coincidence, and yet...it could be destiny. Only time will tell. I really do hope they put DBF and the rest in widescreen and possible blu-ray for HD (I've said this before I know).

Well I finally watched Rainbow Mist, finishing the set. Definitely the worst arc of the series, but it has some interesting moments, and Vic Mignona playing three dudes at once kicked ass.

Now onto the next set… can't wait for the refined season 3.

And Rainbow Mist earned points due to great FUNi acting.

Even with the dub, Warship Island sucked. Not to mention the filler leaked into one of the most important One Piece moments - crossing Reverse Mountain. I will never forgive that.

I still don't get why everyone hates Warship Island so much. Yes, the characters were acting somewhat out of character, and Zoro cutting steel was a pretty bad plot-hole, but I found it rather entertaining apart from that.

I hate it because:

1. It leaked into an important canon moment. ["Finally! We're entering the Grand Li-" "DURR YOU TOOK MY DRAGONITE"]
2. They took the scene where they strayed into the Calm Belt and retold it so that Apis was the one who saved them.:getlost:
3. Apis was annoying.
4. That old dragon was an ass.
5. The Marine villain was bland and poorly-written "GRR IMMA FAT MAN LET ME LIVE FOREVA!".
6. That crappy final battle scene where that old dragon had ZOMG DRAMATIC DEATH.
7. The whole "go here, no wait we needed to be back there" plot? That's the best they could do? I mean, I'm not expecting Robert Louis Stevenson, but AT LEAST make it interesting.
8. They drag it out for 7 and a half episodes compared to Rainbow Mist's 5 episodes.
9. Why the hell could Luffy understand the dragon? Pure heart bullcrap? They never bloody say. I can understand Apis understanding him, but anybody else doing so is ridiculous to me.

Nothin' about it resembled the way Oda crafts his story, the designs of the characters were unlike his own, the plot didn't develop in ways he uses, the main cast barely resembled themselves. Just wasn't like One Piece. But it's understandable, Toei weren't that familiar with it at that point. The first movie was terrible as well.

Hmm, I should probably rephrase this so there is no misunderstanding…

By "the worst filler arc", I meant that, IMO, out of all the One Piece filler (NOT counting those stupid recap episodes ofc), this one was my least favorite. Now, that doesn't mean I think it was terrible as you seem to have thought.

Rainbow Mist itself has an interesting plot. I mean time travel itself, when done right, always has an interesting story to it because it makes you think. The whole "characters in three places at once" thing peeked my interest as well. And I actually liked the cast, even most of the kids. And the villains.

So you're probably wondering why the lower rating then? I honestly can't say myself… there's just something that feels kind of off about it. From something that's in between Alabasta and Skypiea, it feels really out of place for me. Still, I enjoyed it overall despite that, and FUNI's dub made it better for me. Part of my initial problem was I only saw the Japanese episodes with the terrible Hong Kong bootleg subs, so at the time I didn't understand the time travel stuff. Not understanding that ruins the intelligent ending.

I don't think Apis deserves this much hate. I like her character, even if she's a little annoying at certain moments. Since she's just a kid, I give her some leeway. Although, that Yoko girl was far more annoying, and I agree she gives Gurrenn Lagann Yoko a bad name.

S3 V1 = 144-156 - Ends in Skypiea when the SHs become criminals.
S3 V2 = 157-169 - Ends on the Episode where Wiper uses the Reject dial for the first time.

They SHOULD change the Eng Version of We Are, they flat out said the one originally used was just a rushjob to get something up there before they did the real adaptation of the song that we heard Vic sing on the DVDs.

I don't know, part of me agrees with you, Rin.

But I did enjoy Jerry Jewel's version of We Are, if only there was a way to keep both Vic and Jerry's version on the dvd.
