Chapter 586 "A Fetid Town" Discussion

Huh, weirdest thing about this chapter was Dragon's face. Here the guy looks either shocked or glum or something, whereas every other times we've seen him he's had a confident smirk on his face. Yeah, he's shocked by Sabo's words but he still carries on with that face after the lady (possibly Iva) arrives. I wonder what's going through this guy's mind right now. Has he not yet developed the confidence he's obtained in present time?

I'm pretty sure that's the case, because as he said, he doesn't have that much power yet. This could be his first big attack, a year later he's considered the most dangerous criminal in the world.

It's already been said several times, by Aohige, even, that in the Raw the speech pattern matches that of Ivankov's unique one. So, unless Ivankov is Luffy's mother and just forgot about it, no.

He was offering them jobs. It's a little weird, but that's all about it.

And he didn't find about their stash, or at least the chapter left that open. We will know in the next chapters…

I think this flashback will be over in 1-2 chapters. By "over" I mean we will have the big reveal/emotional moment by the end of either next or the one after next, and then the following chapter will have the usual montage transitioning from past to present.

Problem here is that there would be no reason for Luffy to call Ace his "only brother". The way things are now, and the way Luffy tends to think, Sabo is still concidered their "brother". I don't think it will be solved simply by Luffy slowly developing hatred against him over time (off-screen) as he thinks Sabo stays with the nobles.

Sabo could also become a sister, though, but that would be kind of weird.

Awesome chapter. I swear the way the nobles treats people makes you hate them more and more. It's horrible how easily they were willing to massacre a whole village of people without a care.

And Dragon showing up was a huge bonus (and I'm assuming that Ivankov at the end). I wasn't expecting him to show. And to find out he was from Goa Kingdom too. Obviously we knew he was from East Blue, but didn't know he actually grew up on the same island as Luffy. I wonder if he even knows his son is right in the middle of the mess.

Also, I wonder what will happen to Sabo? Will he end up going with Dragon or maybe end up helping him in some other way? I hope at some point in the future we'll get to see him again. Although now that I think about it, Luffy's never said anything before about having more than one brother. I hope that doesn't mean Sabo died.

Oh lord does this translation stink. What does Bluejam mean by saying "to think that you would come all the way down from High Town to make fun of Trash Mountain"? I can't seem to get any sense out of that statement that would work with Luffy and Ace.

And does the last panel really say "Babe" in Japanese? :wassat:

He meant Sabo being a noble. In Blue Jam's mind, Sabo coming to trash town was just a way for him to mock the people that lived there. He can't accept the fact that Sabo would make other kids from there his brothers or respect the people of the Grey Terminal.

He was referring to Sabo, as he thought Sabo was being mocking in his behavior by choosing to live in Gray Terminal.

That wouldn't make any sense unless Garp's Wife was a Noble, because Garp is basically now Sengoku's punching bag for when things go wrong.

It depends. If he was directing that statement at Ace and Luffy, "He" would be better. If he was speaking to himself about Sabo, "You" would be more appropriate.

Iva was off in the distance. He didn't approach Sabo and Dragon until that last panel. I'm assuming he didn't hear their conversation. That has to be Ivankov; no one else in One Piece talks like he does. It'd be like if someone else than Buggy used "flashy" in every other sentence.

Not a great chapter, but Dragon at the end was interesting.

Maybe it was Luffy's mum at the end? Who knows, she could also be a badass Revolutionary. Explains why she called Dragon "babe" aswell. Ivankov shouldn't know about Dragon being born in East Blue, unless he didn't hear what he said to Sabo. I'm suprised Dragon revealed where he was from to Sabo… so Sabo becomes a Revolutionary? If he's alive, I hope he destroys Akainu.

Normally, the King's head being covered by a speech bubble would be suspicious, but Oda tends to do this a lot, so It's probably nothing significant. He's probably another character we haven't seen before. Kind of interesting how the Inspection Squad's uniforms are similar to Impel Down's jail guard (not the guys with the glasses and berets, but the guys in the executioner-looking gear, who I assumed were actual cell guards).

Actualy those are the Royal Army's firefighting uniforms aparently .
