This is not just a matter of tools. Do you seriously think those will make the difference needed here. They can help it on it's way, no doubt. But no way in hell is that enough on it's own.
NW have people they can beat easy with there current power .

The SH are not going to come back so strong that they could have win the fight at SB , not going to happen.
So strong that they aren't as an entire group practically defeated by a single Pacifista.
In fact i bet you that Califa and the CP9 would beat allot of NW pirates at the war .
CP9 excepting maybe Lucci would probably be just more faces in the crowd. And Califa would die.
Let me ask you a question how many pirate crews do think in the OP world could have won that fight .
Fucktons would have beat the Pacifista. Hancock took one down alone.
And a lot of the rest may have managed escape from Kizaru and the rest.
Even 4 or 5 WB commander could have not won that fight if you take way the top 3 from them.
Whitebeard commanders could lay waste to Pacifistas.
If you want a time skip to show the effects of the war that not going to take long either , one WB island already gone.
NW pirate crews forming , the WG kill a warlord.

And that reason was probably partly to shut up a lot of people who believed they'd win again Kuma and Kizaru in Sabaody. The war was to further cement the idea. There were still a lot of people barking that Luffy would win against someone big in the war, which of course was a load of shit.
Agreed. But they need to take major steps to realistically get at least going on the road to doing that.
The Straw Hats can get an upgrade within say a month, and still get their asses kicked by the Admirals. I'm expecting that, in fact. Beating an Admiral is so far into the future, Akainu might even be second to the last villain before Blackbeard.
I am not at all suggesting they would be on Admiral level or even near it.
In fact half my point is just how strong the admirals are.
That I feel a more realistic amount of time would have to be spent to get them on the next plateau. Precisely because of how much stronger Admirals are.
If Oda time skips an entire year? It would feel like they should be Admiral-level or higher, and that would just … be a let down.
If anyone could just train for a year and be admiral level that would be ridiculous. I don't at all buy that.
