Good choice. Keep it up. Next step is to buy it.
NEW ONE PIECE FAN: The GREAT ADVENTURE BEGINS

-
Enjoying the Logue town arc, liked the whole Daddy the father episode, Sanji's was alright too. And how great is Smoker?!
Ahh Smoker…another of my favorite characters.
Heh, it's funny this filler arc is one that I actually liked.
-
Was planning to watch some more One Piece but decided to keep reading the manga, Luffy vs Arlong is about to begin.

Hey, like People call me E said if you want to be a One Piece fan you should really go out and buy it. What's the big deal you may ask? Well, watch this and show your support :)

(Don't get me wrong you should buy it that's just being fair)
-
! Okay I really have the suspicion that you're trolling now… which means you already know that the lady is Alvida and you're just saying that you wouldn't know... but sorry if you aren't trolling, but dunno, it just feels like it.
It's his first time watching it so yeah.. he won't know she is her. Don't ruin it for others, dude. >/

Well as long as capitalism is the economic system you're right. But, it improves chances of being able to afford better animation directors (a replacement for Deguchi, maybe?) and new marketing revenue etc.
-
It's not about editor or Oda respect, but about his first OP read experience. It's just an advice that i give you. If you have money of course. I think it's important to read One Piece books. One Piece is awesome, it deserve to be read in the best way possible. Scan are ok, but finally, you read it fast, and you are sit behind a computer. Like these people who read 100 chapter/day on onemanga site and can't remenber all of it obviously. It's not a race, take your time. In buying the volumes, you will read the one that you got, then again and again until the next, and you can take your time, the more you wait the more you want to read the next volume.
-
I don't want to get into a whole filler opinion spout, but I just want to say that I treat it as supplemental material. I watched the Apis Arc, movies, and other filler arcs after I watched the entire series. As someone who is pretty cynical going into a series, the Apis Arc would have not only slowed my watching experience but could have brought it to a hold for a decent period of time. There are some filler arcs I don't feel do quite that much damage, and the later in the series they are the less they have a chance to detract a potential viewer. These are just my opinions, if you like the Apis Arc, good for you, I just personally wouldn't recommend it on the first time through One Piece.
-
If people are wondering yes, I will buy the manga, soon in fact, I would buy it already but I'm a bit low on cash having just bought voyages 1-4.
Episode 52 was good even if the lightening part was a bit cheesy. Actually liked Buggy this time around. Looks like I was right about my alvida hunch though she msut have gone to fat camp to lose all that weight!
-
If people are wondering yes, I will buy the manga, soon in fact, I would buy it already but I'm a bit low on cash having just bought voyages 1-4.
no worries, the sets are somewhat expensive so its understandable. But you can also catch a number of the episodes on the official website, i think the english dubbed ones start somewhere near where your at.
-
I just found a site which contains up to episode 79 dubbed so I'll houd on s2 1st voyage for now and instead go out and get the manga, I should be able to at least get the first 7 voulmes.
-
If you decide to buy the manga, bare in mind that Viz's translation can be a bit hit and miss at times.
As a personal preference I'd stick with the anime, as manga adaptations go its pretty damn good. One Piece really comes alive for me with colour and motion. -

I remember a while back, Crossword posted a comparison of Stephen's script and Viz's translations for the Zoro-Mr. 1 fight, and they were almost identical.
Viz's translations are really good.Viz's censorship standards are a completely different thing, however.

You make no sense, anime is shit compared to the manga. It's not because you don't buy the manga that you have to prevent others to do it.

Quoted for truth. About the censorship standards, it's mostly just edited in the Shonen Jump magazine (just barely, even at that). But the things that were edited in the magazine are left alone in the actual books. The only things edited in the books that I can remember are Zoro > Zolo and Loguetown > Roguetown. But those weren't, and still aren't even a big deal anyway so let's not go into that again. Some people try to make Viz seem horrible, like a certain member here who said Viz edited Luffy's name from "Monky D. Luffy" to "Monkey D. Luffy." But they just ended up looking like a fool anyway.
-
I don't really mind about the name translations as long as it's not 4kids edited I don't care. I'm gonna go ahead and buy the first 3 volumes on Monday, no point in doing it today. Decided to take a break from the One Piece anime and get up to speed with the manga in Japan. My birthday is May 13th so I'll get 1st Voyage for then.

If you actually read what I posted, I never said do not to buy the manga.
I merely said I prefer the anime, that is my opinion.Note for a second the key word in that sentence, 'opinion'. Something you seem all to eager to throw around as fact, again.
It is also my opinion, that you are an obnoxious, elitist, arsehole. But then again that is only an opinion.

I am a big supporter of the manga too but I don't get what's the problem with the anime. It's slower with some filler (a lot better than most animes though) and the art/animation can sometimes be inconsistent, but otherwise I think the story comes to life far better with color, motion, voices, music, sound effects, etc.

It's same. You don't clearly say him to not buy the manga, but it's like you say it.
First, this:
If you decide to buy the manga, bare in mind that Viz's translation can be a bit hit and miss at times.
What the point with this, do you have any proofs?
Then,
As a personal preference I'd stick with the anime, as manga adaptations go its pretty damn good
Ok, good. But who care of this? Why are you saying this if it's not to influence him?
-
I third that but still the manga is enjoyable in its own way.
-
Honestly.. I would have quit OP if it wasn't for the manga… Especially if I watched Enies Lobby XP There's something about Oda's chaotic fast paced style most the the animators don't know to mimic.
-
And lets not forget the anime wouldn't be here without the manga.
-
Oh but, that's a given. xP
-
yep, btw is there a point in watching the movies?
-
yep, btw is there a point in watching the movies?
Well, it depends. Some of them, like movie 4 and 9 are excellent, and a lot of people like movie 6, but the rest of them are pretty forgettable.
-
yep, btw is there a point in watching the movies?
They're just for good ol' fun. I personally love Movies 2, 6, and 9. The others can be relatively meh (I still wonder why some people praise movie 4 so much since it feels like a rehash to me. I mean, the antagonist is nothing special plus I saw his weakness from miles away, and some of the "cool scenes/jokes" are rip offs of other scenes in the series…though I will say the bar fight itself was cool). Don't forget to watch the Soccer and Baseball shorts...simply awesome hilarity ensues in them!
-
@People:
Why are you saying this if it's not to influence him?
Oh and saying;
@People:
anime is shit compared to the manga.
Is not trying to influence him at all, am I right?
I'm sure he can make up his own mind which he prefers. -
yep, btw is there a point in watching the movies?
Movie 6 is by far the best of the bunch. It's like the Davy Back Fight arc, but alot darker and more exciting. So if you only can choose one of the movies, choose 6.
-
I'll share my opinion with you, you're free to consider it if you want.
Important: First of all, you should watch the episodes in Japanese with english subtitles, not dubs. Trust me, you'll enjoy One piece more.
Well, IMO, One piece anime IS One piece. You know, Oda is a master storyteller and writer, and his story is astonishingly well made, you can say the manga is the best, because you actually can read the direct work of the mangaka, but the anime is another step. And I'm not an asshole saying nonsense, here are my arguments:
1.- In the manga, Tragic moments are just killed in the manga. What i mean is that those special moments were you need to calm down and assimilate what you are seeing/reading aren't there. Example for this: searching in my volume 1….. Zoro's flashback about Kuina, specially Kuina's death. Compare that with the anime episode and you'll now what i mean.
2.- The one piece world is a very special world, and you can enjoy it better in color. Maybe that's just me, but i really loved how the world is expressed in the anime, rather than in the manga.
3.- The Sound. The voice actor's work, the BG/SFX sounds and the Openings and Endings are things that are really cool and simbolic to the whole series. You can understand in a better way the characters knowing their voices, and you'll overall think OP is more real when you watch it with sound. (You'll never have a "I wanna live" moment better than in the anime Robin FTW!!!) Also, Epic scenes are clearly better this way than "reading them".
4.- Funny momments: I've laughed many times in the Anime more than in the manga, (and i'm not a guy who laughs at every stupid thing, i'm actually very serious) But luffy saying "Tsugeee" or Sanji's and Zoro's fights, or Robin's silly moments are things you can't enjoy very much in the manga. (Not giving examples so i don't spoil you)
And actually, many people can complain about the filler episodes, but believe me, they aren't bad. There are many funny moments in this episodes, and after all, they expand your OP experience. Without fillers it would be a lot shorter, and you wouldn't enjoy your experience with this series!
I actually saw every OP episode up to 442 and i took 6 months to do so. What i'm traying to say it's not "Don't read the manga, it's bullshit" No. What i'm trying to say you is that you should find a balance, but never change one for the other. I'm pretty happy i actually watched the anime before i read the manga.
That's it, just my opinions and my experience. Hope that i helped you dude, and enjoy your journey!
-
Well, IMO, One piece anime IS One piece.
How can someone say that? It amaze me really. It is very, very sad.
I disagree with all of your points. Well i guess that you are one of these guys who does not like "read". A lazy guy who prefer eating in front its computer instead of read the awesomeness of One Piece.
So yea, the truth argument that you should say, like others, it's " Yes, i prefer the Anime because i'm too lazy to read the manga".
Do not say such bullshit as it's funnier in the anime or the emotion is better. This is wrong. I think that you didnt read it well, or you didnt read it at all.
Also, anime is for people who don't want to buy the manga. Of course, i can understand, it cost money. But, still, if you say that you prefer Anime because it's better than the manga, you are lying. Because you didnt read the volumes. I'm not speaking about scan. Scan read is not as good than books. This is better to read One Piece, confortably, even with some kind of music (OP music are pretty good), than in front of the computer.
What i mean it's: People saying that they prefer OP Anime because it's better than the manga are wrong, they just lie. They prefer OP anime because it allow them to avoid an disadvantage: too lazy to read or/ does not want to buy the manga.
I dont know anyone who have all the OP books, who prefers the Anime. BUT, i know some people who prefer watching the OP anime and does not have the books. This is it. -
You know what I'm going to start a thread about which people think is better, the anime or the manga.
-
One piece's anime is cursorily made. That's why some original manga fans dont like it inculding me.

This is it.I read the manga and watch the anime, and I know that the manga is Oda's direct work and all, but there are some scenes that are done better in the anime. There's not much you can do to fit emotion into a few panels. The anime adds BGM, and voice acting to it. Also, when watching the anime, I'll often notice things that I missed while reading the manga. Likewise, however, the anime can also be dragged out at times. This is when the manga's overall fast pace is a good thing. But they both have their strengths and weakness
-
one piece anime is so-so, i don't like that movie 6 style by the way~ it is really against oda's art style.
-
1.- In the manga, Tragic moments are just killed in the manga. What i mean is that those special moments were you need to calm down and assimilate what you are seeing/reading aren't there.
Killed? No. You can't say that.
-
Hvae just watched the final episode of the Loguetown arc, very good, if there was a video game level based on it I'd say it'd be pretty tough.
About the anime/manga thing I'd say that it's a bit of a overstatement to say that the manga kills the moments, sure it doesn't have music etc but there's no denying you feel a pang of shock and sadness when you see that character killed or whatever in the manga.
-
Let me just say this. The anime does a damn fine job at animating the emotional moments that it's hard to hold back tears during those scenes (good choice of emotional music and voice acting that matches so perfectly with the emotions being portrayed). The manga makes me cry, but the anime makes me cry even more.
-

I would just like to point out that I think one scene in a recent manga-chapter (Those who have read it should know which one I mean) was more emotional than anything the anime has ever done.
@Badass:
I read the manga and watch the anime, and I know that the manga is Oda's direct work and all, but there are some scenes that are done better in the anime.
Definitely. I mean, just take stuff like
! Going Merry's funeral for example. The amazing animation and voice-acting, not to mention the insert-song, Dear Friends, made the anime-version of that scene vastly superior to its manga counterpart. Also, watch the end of movie 8 and then read that scene in the manga. Can anyone honestly say that the manga was better?
@Badass:
Likewise, however, the anime can also be dragged out at times. This is when the manga's overall fast pace is a good thing. But they both have their strengths and weakness
Of course, this is more often the case. Toei seems to generally just save the best animators and a good portion of their animation budget for the occasional major scene, thus resulting in the rest of it being just kinda ok at best. Granted, considering how One Piece is one of those "never-ending" shonen anime, this is pretty much inevitable, but you can't really deny that the manga is more or less consistently excellent, whereas the anime is just "good" with occasional moments of true greatness mixed in.
-
Important: First of all, you should watch the episodes in Japanese with english subtitles, not dubs. Trust me, you'll enjoy One piece more.
You probably never watched a dub before.
-
You probably never watched a dub before.
To be fair to him, dubbed anime has gotten a very bad rep over the years.
While their have been a lot of bad dubs, the Funi One Piece dub isn't one of them.I don't think it can quite match up to the quality of the original, but then the One Piece anime has been lucky enough to have amazing voice actors over the years.
-
@sheng:
one piece anime is so-so, i don't like that movie 6 style by the way~ it is really against oda's art style.
I hated it at first. Not the movie, just the style. It's the best movie so far, IMO. But somehow, when I watched it a second time, the style grew on me and I ended up liking it.
I hated it again though when they used that style in the Chopper movie. It was just weird.
-

I dont know anyone who have all the OP books, who prefers the Anime. BUT, i know some people who prefer watching the OP anime and does not have the books. This is it.Yay, i knew flaming was going to start! I've actually read the manga entirely. And no, i'm not lazy, and no, I'm not one of those guys who don't like to read.
Another point. Do you know which manga volumes are sold here in Chile? 3 (1-3)and i have them all.
I'm not lying, i'm telling my point of view. If you like it, Ok, i you don't then Ok too. I'm not in the USA or in Japan (or any other european country) to go and buy the volumes, and i'm not rich or millionare to import them all (you know, the fees aren't something so cheap)
OP is my favorite series. It's something outstanding, amazing, i don't think i've ever seen something so amazingly done as this, but that's my point of view. Maybe it was affected by the fact that i started Watching (rather than reading) OP.( I know the anime has it's downfalls, it's not perfect and the style isn't always satisfying, but overall i think the experience is better).- And yeah, i like to eat watching One piece episodes that i like. A problem? :P

I haven't denyied that. In fact, i was saying the shock is more deep in the anime. Maybe "kill" isn't the right word, sorry for the misunderstanding, maybe the phrase is "tune down"?
Let me just say this. The anime does a damn fine job at animating the emotional moments that it's hard to hold back tears during those scenes (good choice of emotional music and voice acting that matches so perfectly with the emotions being portrayed). The manga makes me cry, but the anime makes me cry even more.
Agree. Im probably not from the solar sistem, cause I've never cried while reading something, just me probably.
I would just like to point out that I think one scene in a recent manga-chapter (Those who have read it should know which one I mean) was more emotional than anything the anime has ever done.
I know what you mean, i was never a fan of you know, but i can say that chapter was pretty emotional, though i won't say it's "The Most" …
SPOILER
Bellemere's death, Robin's flashback and life, etc are clearly scenes where i cried a bit.
END SPOILER
You probably never watched a dub before.
Now that wasn't necessary. OF COURSE I HAVE WATCHED A DUB. (many, not just for OP, for many animes too).
One we can't probably say it's a dub, you know what i mean: 4Kids OP dub. Don't blame me, i just enjoyed the japanese Voice acting a lot more, i don't know how to explain it, but "translating" something to another language kinda makes it loose his mistycism or particular charisma.
And don't go talking about Funi here. Tha dub will probably NEVER come here to chile, my country, and i have already watched OP in japanese to start it again in english just to justify your dumb comment. Thanks.
Agree. I wasn't saying Dubs (except one) were bad or anything. I respect Funi for taking the anime and reviving it with their new Dub, they've done an amazing job. And yes, One piece VAs are truly amazing.
That's it. Before commenting plz take note that i'm not in thye same place as you or i have the mediums to get the things like you. Many people here are from countrys very different to Chile, and that clearly affects how can someone consider something best rather than the other, and get different things in an easy way(i wish i could buy more OP volumes, unfortunately, i can't.)

I've only seen people hating it. It's really annoying, I think the animation is wonderful, and love every second of it when they sometimes use it in the anime and in Movie 9.
