Well that was a bit of a gut punch of a chapter.
If it had been Muira still doing it I think a lot of those shots would have been two page spreads and this same content would have taken two chapters (and 7 months) to get through.
I'll take a little hit to the art quality (which is still stupid good) for the story to actually move forward in a "the best would could have hoped for" after Muira's death.

Hmm.. I don't think he's mourning his sword but rather the fact that it (swords in general) was the one thing he relied on and would help him solve his problems - in a way it feels like mourning the loss of a place you think of as home/refuge. But then again I could be way off mark
I also don't read it as him mourning the actual loss of the sword but rather the idea/illision that he could get his revenge by simply swinging this huge lump of iron at Griffith. He definitely has gotten stronger since the eclipse and he surely thought that what's necessary to take Griffith down. But in the end he was completely outclassed and thar realization is hitting him hard right now. At least that's how I read the situation.

Agreed. One of the things that went through my mind when reading and even now thinking about the chapter is "this is not a dumbed down version of Berserk". I'm really happy with what we've gotten so far.
Then we get the big twist that the Axe of the Gnomes he didn't want actually can hurt Femto.
I am really satisfied with the work of Mori's and the assistants' sor far.
The art suffered only a minimal downgrade, the story is interesting and has the same feeling as the original.
I can't wait to see more in December! :)

It's not the specific sword, the flashback shows all his swords.
Every situation he's been in he's been able to use a sword, ANY sword, to clear out the problem.
He used it on Griffith and it was completely useless and went right through him. Pure raw strength that has always gotten him through isn't enough.
From the Eclipse until now he's probably been holding himself together with the thought if he could just hit Griffith he could kill him and revenge would be that easy, but...
Naw, it's been set up for ages that the Dragon Slayer has been gaining the power to cut through to the other realm after its killed a thousand demons over the years.
I'm not sure that Schierke has ever actually TOLD him this before however, its never been hyper relevent since he was getting the job done.
Upon learning this, and realizing that he DID cut one of Griffith's hairs, the mission is going to be "go kill more demons. POWERFUL ones". Skull Knight might tell him this too. Just explicitly "go kill some of those generals and get that really good monster blood seeped into your sword."
Of course he might also give into his beast side now. Or his beast side might be thinking WTF as well.

I agree with everything you said. I would also like to add that during the eclipse he didn't have any sword because it broker (was it during the fight with Wyald?). And while the presense of his old sword wouldn't have changed the overall trajectory of how the events played out Guts wouldn't have started out with the handicap of having to find a weapon first.
What's important here is not how many more demon's he might have slain but the idea that has to be going on through Guts' head "if I only head my sword back then!" I don't think he ever uttered those words in the story, but I'm quite sure that it had to cross his mind at some point. People often question/regret how even minor events in their lives play out. There's no way this thought isn't something that has never crossed Guts' mind.

Ooooo, nice read. I thought that Caska would be a bit more confused, but it seems that she's under some kind of spell. Oh my, Nosferatu seems quite inhappy with his master's actions...maybe he'll change sides?
Nobody can deny that Caska has suffered the most in the whole series. I don't care how much blood Guts has spilled.
Someone pointed out to me, that the tea Casca drinks might be part of the substance of how she is hypnotised, of course Griffith and or Sonia might still be the ultimate evil behind it.
But still nice catch on their part.
Overall good chapter, felt short but I'm sure its just the start. Though I'm not sure what I want to see more of in the next chapter, either go back to Guts and the others or continue on with Griffith and Casca.
Really hard to choose, what would you guys prefer?

Some fans put together an animation for a proper season 2 of the Berserk anime, in the style of the 97 show. First episode is up. Neat. It's definitely an amateur fan project, and I doubt they make much more than this give how intensive these things are, and passion only goes so far, but neat.

Art at that level, with that much crosshatching and toning, and shots full of characters, takes 6-8 weeks to draw. No way of getting around it, even with a team it's going to be one page a day max, 20 man hours per page, and that's not considering money shots or two page spreads that they probably spend massive time on.
They tried doing monthly releases for a little while with 13 page chapters and that didn't really help anything nor were they able to keep that schedule up for very long, so they abandoned that.
So they work until they have a few chapters stockpiled and release em in bulk.
The best you can hope for even Miura being gone they shouldn’t lower their standards art wise.
New berserk chapter is out.
377 was nice, again I cannot tell the art apart, still gorgeous to look at, good thing is, it’s a rather long chapter and the next one comes out on the 8th of November.
It may just be me, but I feel like the art in this chapter was a big improvement over the last few.
You never get more than half a breath in this story, I swear.
