It can't stay within my head that this chapter implied Rangiku was raped…maybe. I guess it's possible the translation is weird, but still that's the only thing Aizen's lackeys could have done that makes remote sense. Now I have the image of Kubo arguing with his editors, fighting to uncensor his work. Complaining about how he wants to make this manga "deeper" and how they're ruining everything.

Now I wonder what else Kubo could have gotten in without these mysterious editors blocking his way. It's also nice to see a little normalcy from Kubo, exploiting every cliche to make your manga edgy and deep, not unlike Neon Genesis Evangelion (though to be fair, I've never gotten around to seeing those last two episodes and the movies). I feel like I can understand Kubo now. I need only look towards bad 90s comics to see where he'll go next. I expect Hitsugaya's upcoming drug addiction.

Shit, I think I just discovered why Kubo likes his manga so much... he's high and the backgrounds look amazing from all the colors. Seriously, imagine how much better it would be with psychedelic backgrounds. It'd at least be entertaining in its trippiness.

@Nufiasco: apologies about my delay there I was roleplaying on my other fb account. Anyway. I agree with you on the Berserk thing. Although maybe I'm a bit biased since I love Berserk for a variety of reasons. Having said that I have read a lot of shonen so I can honestly say a fair bit of it is generic stuff.

"skipped to the action"- wow I guess some people are just action junkies. There's nothing wrong with that of course, I mean action stuff can be fun, but aside from amazing story and character development, OP has really awesome action as well, I say this as a shonen manga specialist. Bleach barely has ok action scenes now, so it's a moot point.

Berserk is the most philosophical manga I have encountered, it could be seriously be studied with some of the thematic elements.

I don't really consider the series canon up to a point. I tend to pretend the last few months especially are horribly written fan fiction. I'm pretty much in the "was a hardcore fan but am now reading it to the bitter end with tiredness and sadness" camp. It's as bad as Fairytail.

Fairy Tail is way better than this stinky pile of shit. Even if it, too, has been in the lacking department with Naruto as well. But with those two, at least the characters that keep me reading aren't dieing off left and right here…

Sorry to your friend, but this is the most delusional post I've ever seen. Is he really trying to suggest that all-action and no plot development is what makes manga good?

Same, and same with Naruto for me as well. All three series have really good beginnings, so you always have to keep that in mind when giving a series rating, no matter how bad things get later. As you said, all three authors waste many characters and good plot points that could be much better utilized.

Let's face it. The only reason Byakuya, Mayuri and Kenpachi are alone in Hueco Mundo currently facing Yammy bumpkin is because they'd probably redecorate Karakura Town with Aizen's body. It follows the same logic as to how Shunsui never used his Bankai because he may just have beaten Aizen or why Ukitake was taken out in one hit by a nobody retard, because his abilities are probably way too powerful.

! Stop making 'badass' a personality.
! This nonsense has been so milked that the cow's teats have long past went small, grey and wrinkly by about twenty years. Yet some still think this is an all-excusing word for uncreative tripe. It's what twelve year olds and pre-pubescents on a fantastic powertrip mark off as good characterization, and what creatively unchallenged manchildren fall back on when they're unable to find real redeeming features in characters as shallow as the pool made by a leaky roof.
! Have a character beat someone up?
! >! Badass.
! Have a character make someone bleed, or themselves be the bleeder?

! Have a character get in black or red or other 'dark' colors with all sorts of spikes and ridges and horns and fangs and teeth and oh my god so cool for no reason but the coolness?

We all know about this, it's everywhere. Goku's childish and often petty attitudes, Yusuke's nonchalantly dickish behavior towards just about everyone, Luffy's often buffoonish and self-centered behavior. Hell, even Naruto's Mary-sueness has something rounded out to him with his bullshit whining and selfish crap. It's all the little things that help save the characters from following the trend straight and narrow.
! But Ichigo? What of him? There are no small quirks to make him stand out, no personal insight, no criticism. There's nothing about him that would make the audience want to challenge him for his thoughts or actions. 'This isn't the way I wanted to win' or 'you guys!' are excluded; you should not get off on literal idiocy as being some sort of bizarro character flaw. There's a big difference between that and characteristic stupidity or judgment lapses, and if you expect me to believe there's a natural link between [Ulquiorra-death-revival-cocky-Grimmjow fight-Nnoitra crap-Ulquiorra moan moan whine whine] then you've lost it. Unless Mr. Schiffer has that effect because he's 'just that emo', because then you've just lost.
! It became a cycle at the beginning of the Arrancar arc, starting after the SS arc. Get his ass kicked, feel bad, and 'TRAIN HARDER!'. There wasn't any humanity behind it, and further into the arc we got, the more evident this was becoming. He was a person being followed only for the fact he was the asexual teenage main character. You could literally put in a magical buffalo to do all this and it would still make just about as much sense for everyone to get attached and all friendly to its shaggy hind. Bleach fans will argue away this as others not being able to 'get' the subtleties behind the off-screen character interaction and development, being much more 'psychological' than you'd give it credit for. Congratulations, you've reached the sufficient level of pretentiousness to nibble on your own tongue and say you've tasted ambrosia after breaking the artery.
! You can't just have people say or flashback to important events in one's life so many times and count them as 'people moments'. It may be tempting to argue away all the other silly and ridiculousness on the fact they're ghosts, but they're ghosts that've come from humans, or at the least somehow copied similar social interaction. It's not possible for a right-headed reader to really sympathize with someone's plights, troubles and bonds if all those bonds are mentioned offhand or in single chapter-long flashback blurbs from other characters that we never see or hear from again. There's no way anyone will invest themselves wholly in something if you can't even see or feel those characters doing something meaningful that you can invest in. And if you have to sacrifice all that to make your work look 'deep' then I'm sorry but even Holden Caulfield is a more alluring character than your string-bound snot and J.D. Salinger has earned his place in literature a thousand times over more than you ever will through an impotent self-entitled brat whose miserable existence actually serves a deeper purpose beyond trying to serve as masturbation for socially ill middle-schoolers.
! Maybe I'm overly critical. Really, I should give more benefit of the doubt here. Just look at that chain!

There's no way anyone will invest themselves wholly in something if you can't even see or feel those characters doing something meaningful that you can invest in. And if you have to sacrifice all that to make your work look 'deep' then I'm sorry but even Holden Caulfield is a more alluring character than your string-bound snot and J.D. Salinger has earned his place in literature a thousand times over more than you ever will through an impotent self-entitled brat whose miserable existence actually serves a deeper purpose beyond trying to serve as masturbation for socially ill middle-schoolers.

I forgot gabz. And actually several early 2010s are good (Cyan, Herodadotus, Badass Snocone, etc). Retsudo's not bad either. SGR falls into the no impression either way camp. He was improving prior to whatever he got banned for.

With all these weird flashback revelations starting from how Aizen planned out Itchi's whole life all the way to him having arranged a meeting between Hougyokus it's starting to feel a little like Kubo is writing this story in the wrong direction.

what do you expect? meaning less wall of text like one piece? background that will distract the attention of the reader from the plot and character development? look at this week chapter, even some of one piece fans don't like it.. nothing happen even with all characters development.. i suggest you reread this week bleach and try to understand the feeling that kubo's put in it.. from gin's death, rangiku crying, no word can describe how sad that moment are although we don't know anything about them and their flashback sucks.. last week aizen turn to seraphic angel from god of death.. that is a very powerful character development.. this week he learn "fear", and that is something he never had before.. now that is another character development..

You are right, Bleach is so deep and complicated. People here sure aren't intelligent enough to comprehend.

What do I expect? This chapter in 5 pages. Maybe less.
That fear and revolution stuff is completely bullshit and have no impact. The flash back is too simple and cliche. Emotions done in a lame way. Conversations are lame and unnatural.
What do I expect? One Piece this week, as usual, is full of material. Humour, drama, character development, all in one chapter, with 5 characters, 5 different styles. The SHs thinking about Luffy, which rarely done before, showing the depths of their characters. Those meaningless wall of text has 10 times more literature value than Bleach.
Even the worst chapter of One Piece is 10 time better than Bleach.
