The Scott Pilgrim anime is...a lot more meta that I would've expected.
And a great deal of Panty & Stocking vibes.
And the balls to have Dead Kennedys in the soundtrack.

I haven’t read the original comics but from what I’ve gathered this felt like an AU fanfic take on Scott Pilgrim. As someone who likes fanfics I liked it overall, but could see people being upset for those wanting the original comic book adaptation.
-
Yeah. It starts out mostly the same and then takes a maaaassive swing into new territory at the end of the first episode.
It's nice to get a new story instead of just a retread but... I also want a nice adaptation of the actual story too?

Aardman Animation is running out of clay. Yes, really.
https://www.animationmagazine.net/2023/11/aardman-animations-studio-is-running-out-of-plasticine/
To clarify, Aardman uses a special kind of Plasticine clay from a manufacturer that has recently closed up shop, and no other manufacturers make it. They have enough clay stored up to make one more movie.
-
It needs to be a special kind of clay because it's easily moldable, but holds up under hot studio lights.
You'd kind of think they would have bought the manufacturer at some point if it was literally the only place that makes the stuff. If its out of business anyway it the equipment has to be going for a song, right?
-
You would think they would think it was in their best interest to buy the ONLY company that makes their clay.
-
Sooo . . . anybody remember Hullabaloo? That indie animation project by James Lopez (Disney animator) that originally did it's indiegogo funding campaign back in 2015? Well the fuckers actually released one:
It's . . . . nice, but there's not much story to it. It just seems to be an introduction to what the series of short films will be like.
-
Aardman said that they have plenty of clay in stock to last until they can find somebody else to supply their needs.
In other animation news, the original test footage for Shrek was posted the other day by its director.
It actually looks pretty solid for that time period.
-
Leo on Netflix is cute. Just bothered a bit with Sandler’s voice but it’s loads better than 8 Crazy Nights.
-
It looked adorable. But more than Adam Sandler what looked funny was Bill Burr as the tortoise.
-
The first two episodes of the new season of Aqua Teen were great. I really like the new animation that they are using for the new season.
-
Warner Bros. Discovery: "We want Max to focus on our most popular franchises and brands."
Also Warner Bros. Discovery: "We don't need Batman or Looney Tunes."
-
That's another bad move by WBD.
-
Was
Looney Tunes is apparently staying.

Well Scott Pilgrim was not what I was expecting
-
Animation wise it was fine, and the action sequences were quite good, but the characters do sound a lot more hollow even when O'Malley tries to make them meatier. I think it's just how the characters were created back in the 00s...
-
I did think some of the voice acting sounded a bit phoned in for Scott Pilgrim. I enjoyed it though...it took a different direction than I was expecting.
-
It's just a Walmart commercial, but the animation here does a really good job of capturing Chuck Jones' style.
-
Ah yes, the true lesson of the story is "all the loot is cool, actually. That's what Christmas is really about!"
-
Hey everybody can’t be like McDonalds telling their employees/their employees kids to go without on Christmas
-
The animation is faithful. I never said the message was.
-
Am I the only one who was expecting the Scott Pilgrim animated series to be a faithful adaptation of the comics and not whatever it was we ended up getting
-
On here or in general?

On here, what are your opinions?
-
I’ve not seen it yet. But the criticism from some fans over being “deceived” is a bit much
-
Would it be nice to have a 1:1 animated Scott Pilgrim? Yes.
But the comics already had a successful adaptation, O'Malley and the people involved opted to go for something new.
I enjoyed quite a bit, even if it wasn't what I was expecting. -
I never quite got the pulse on Carol and the End of the World as I speed watched it, but it had some real nice episodes.
-
Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget was fine. Doesn't have the same wit or edge as the original, but it was still nice seeing these characters again. With new voices, granted, although I think Zachary Levi is a great replacement for Mel Gibson. Just a cute fun movie you can watch once and...well, maybe once in a blue moon.
-
Finally watched the Scott Pilgrim show. I knew it was going to deviate from the books but not how much. After I got over that bit of shock I was able to emrace and enjoy it as a companion piece. That was really really different than the comics, but I understand why the creators would want to tell an actually new story instead of regurgitating what they did 20 years ago in the comics, movie, and game, that focuses more on all the other characters and fleshes them out... but it is a shame we'll never get a real adaptation.
And while everyone can talk about the animation and the fights and that they got all the actors back and the cameos from Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright and Weird Al and whoever else ... I want to make an extra note that the music was great.
Aside from all the new made-for-the-show songs, some of the background music was nicely inspired. In the final scene, a background instrumental started playing and I recognized it and couldn't place it. I could hum the bars and it was tickling my brain until it clicked. It was the Beach Boys "God only knows (what I'd be without you) " Just, an instrumental. None of the words to tell the audience what it was and hammer the point, but if you recognized it then... you recognized it. And it was such a poignant sweet choice.
And then the end credits did a much more obvious Mortal Kombat rif.

I enjoyed the Scott Pilgram show - it made me watch the live-action movie (loved that too) and it does make me want to check out the comics proper. I understand that I'm experiencing the series essentially backwards but at first glance I THOUGHT the Netflix show was just putting whatever the movie cut out in animated, fuller form.
-
As what I don't know if is a leak or a release of the first 2min of Hazbin Hotel, I have to say that my time in english forums I've never saw show creators as hated as Rebecca Sugar, Dana Terrace and Vivienne Medrano.
It's just ridiculous.
-
Good ole sexism.
-
With a taste of LGBTQ phobia.
-
I don't know why someone did a frame for frame remake of the Thundercats opening, but it's cool all the same. They also randomly switched to the 2011 outfits for Lion-O and Tigra halfway through.
-
Not bad. Again seems pointless, but hey, if you wanna go ahead.
-
Oh god, I think I may have been bit by the Bluey bug.

Where is my boy Ghandi!!!! -
The 2nd half of Invincible Season 2 starts on March 14th.
-
A stop motion animated series from Mike Judge that doubles as an actual interview show?
-
Took them enough decades to finally follow this up.
Kind of a shame that after all this time
-Premise is kind of weak.
-The animation is a downgrade even though its 15 years later? SHowing clips from the movie first was a mistake, it makes it super obvious.
-And I get that they weren't going to get Will Ferrell to do the voice for a straight to tv movie/tv show, but he just sounds wrong.Roxanne doesn't really have any lines, its hard to compare the new voice to Tiny Fey, who they also obviously weren't going to get back.
-
it looks so...jaded?
-
Welcome to how to write a modern superhero story.
-
Yeah, that looks...skippable.
-
I feel kinda bad for the voice actor since that's not a terrible voice for a Megamind style character but it coming out of actual Megamind just feels weird.
