FUNimation Entertainment, Toei Animation, Shueisha and Fuji Television Announce Online Simulcast of One Piece

FUNimation Entertainment and the Japanese powerhouse consortium of producer Toei Animation Co., Ltd., publisher Shueisha, Inc. and broadcaster Fuji Television Network, Inc. have entered into an agreement giving the American anime leader exclusive rights to the U.S. and Canadian online simulcast of the studios' signature animated series One Piece.

Starting Saturday, May 30th at 9:00 p.m. CDT, just one hour after airing in Japan, FUNimation and the consortium will stream the first, free, professionally-produced, accurately English-subtitled One Piece series episode beginning with episode 403 via the official One Piece website www.onepieceofficial.com followed soon thereafter by FUNimation partner sites.

EDIT: And you can choose between English dub and subbed-Japanese. Episode 1 and 2 are out like this, but 391 is only subs.

I don't think their subs for FMA come out until four days or so after the episode airs.

Well, the video quality for their FMA episodes is definitely higher than the One Piece episodes, or maybe it's just the computer… The time started to get more and more off as the video went on though. At any rate, I'll probably use this feature when there's a big episode that I want to see right away, or hear a new character's voice.

Anyone else get a laugh at the ANN report where it said that "Christopher R. Sabat as the swordsman Roronoa Zolo/Zoro." Why are they still calling him Zolo, that name should have died long ago, unless they're still airing cut episodes somewhere.

Since they said "FUNimation video partner sites" in the press release, I would assume that means it'll be on other websites. So Hulu is probably a likely bet.

They just updated the report on ANN. Apparently the Shabondy arc will be sub only. Oh well… at least we still get simulcast.

Update 2: The streams with both English dubbing and English subtitles begin from the anime's first episode. Funimation is streaming the later Sabaody Archipelago Saga story arc on Thursday, but only with English subtitling.

Ah man this sucks. One Piece has always been a mess with fansubs and with the new legal stream, we're screwed. Thank you Toei, thank you Funi, for nothing. Long life capitalism where America gets everything and the rest of the rest of the world can go frak themselves.

Yes, because FUNimation subbing One Piece will totally and completely stop people from getting the raws themselves without American help and translating it into their own langauge.

Clearly you haven't noticed what happened to FMA. There's only one subber left and that show has tens times the appeal and popularity of One Piece which has trouble just finding one trustworthy subber for a while now. Taking down One Piece subs is a piece of cake compared to FMA.

Why did anyone think they were going to be dubbing Sabaody anytime soon? It was obvious that they only plan on subbing the episodes for the site and will eventually dub them when the sets get there.

With legal streaming some subbers quit at once, some quit after a C&D and some find a way to continue somehow. After that selection proces there's only one subber left for FMA which is the biggest show that's come out all year. Face it we're screwed.

Yeah, but it works. Thats what Funimation saw. Ethier that or they saw the had a rageing success with FMA Brotherhood being subbed so the figured why the hell not try to do it with One Piece

That only that proves is that One Piece have had some bad subbers.

Moreover, you're saying all this as if FUNimation is gonna suck balls when it's already been proven in their DVD releases that FUNimation has good subs, and will remain consistant.

If they do send C&D's, I say good riddance to inconsistencies, lines ripped straight out of incorrect scanlations, and pointless moving texts, and then I say hello to FUNi once more. I'm gonna support them like I have from the beginning.
