@mdmartin101:
It was a pun, just Buggy thinking Mr. 3 used a K instead of G in the word, so it came out differently. It wouldn't make sense if translated without the japanese words
Oh, I see. Thanks, now it makes more sense.

Good episode.
Not much happened, but nice animation throughout, so that's cool.
Although….how come when Mr.3 and Buggy were being carried away...the subs were going in two different ways? The subs clearly said-
Mr.3: I don't want gomon (torture)!
Buggy: Komon (anus) stinks!I'm not one to make a mountain of a molehill, but I was curious as to why they did that. Was it some type of pun? Or did the translators make a little mistake?
Yeah it sounds a little awkward, but it's a fast sub abd they probably didn't have enough time to think of a suitable English conversion of the pun. I'm sure it'll be changed on the official DVDs.
Great episode with great animation and music scores. Can't say much more though, as not a whole lot actually happened. But we are now officially half way through the Impel Down arc.

Yeah, probably.

So New Kama Land's right around the corner. =D
So what'll it be?
New Queer Land? Tranny Heaven? Oh Come My Way Haven? So many possibilities.
It'll probably just be "Newcomer Land".
there were a lot of stillls used but i'm happy with the fight .thats what the anime is for. the Mr 2 pwning was great to see. and the last part had show much foreshadowing .
You know… this episode seemed to drag even more than usual. If you're going to drag it down, don't go below a 1:1 Chapter to Episode Ratio… But eh, maybe they did it so they could start adding to the pace later, in which case it might be better in the long run (We want a well-paced War) but still... I think I preferred the method of stretching they did in Enies Lobby. With Well-paced portions of the actual story, but incredibly long Recaps.
That way was better I think, I re-watched the whole series with my significant other recently, and Enies Lobby is actually really well paced if you skip the recaps.

You and I seem to be the only ones who think this, there was really only 2 episodes I can think of from Enies Lobby that felt slow.

Ughh. Even if you skipped it, you can't get away from the massive overuse of recycled animation at the end.
How many times did Zoro take out those three canon balls during their escape?
EL still had horrible pacing to me. Sure you can skip recaps, but that's more work for me to make an episode a little bit better…. and there's ALOT of recaps too.... not to mention very uncreative methods used to stretch out story bits.
Impel Down has that too with the whole Bon Chan extending thing, and the unfunny beast that did not blend in at all with Beast Hell... but still... not nearly as bad.

I hear what you mean, but as you said, I think if they have faster pacing during the war, it won't be so bad.
This is what I would like:
Rest of Impel Down = One chapter pacing (I agree lower than one chapter pacing is too much though…)
War = Only use one chapter pacing for the start of the war when we had longer, more packed chapters. But use 2 chapter pacing towards the end when the fighting picks up and the chapters are much shorter and have many double pages.
To me, Enies Lobby really isn't that bad.
I'm hoping Funi will be smrt about this and set the chapter marks up so you can easily skip the recaps with a simple click on your remote.
Seriously, skipping the recaps aren't hard, you just skip to minute 6 or 7 of the video and bam, you've just skipped the Enies Lobby recaps.
Try it sometime. Marathon the whole arc and Skip the recaps, trust me, the pacing is great that way. There may still be a few slow scenes, but the overall arc is greatly improved for it.
I hope when FUNi gets there they set the Marathon mode to do that automatically.
Except that there are random episodes in which new footage appears before the OP and before the episode title. It's very easy to just skip over stuff like that.
I personally really enjoyed this episode. If I hadn't already read the manga, I doubt I'd be able to identify the filler from the canon stuff. The fact that they managed to do that with only half a chapter is nothing short of remarkable. I consider every episode like this to be a bonus, because it will allow them to use more canon material for a future episode.

Well I know from ripping the episodes off the DVDs that Funi marks each chapter at about 5 minutes or so, so it would be quite simple for them to position the first one to start right at the new footage. Even without that, I simply hit the fast forward button, lol. It's not like it's going to kill you to give your index finger a little exercise, right?
Watched the new episode.
Mr. 3 and Buggy, once again you have MADE this episode. Rubbin' each other and making yourselves sick XD
Pretty cool episode. I guess the episodes are going to be "Last Half of one chapter, First half of the next" for a while since last week's half chapter episode.
! If next week's episode plays out the same way, then we should get to see Ivankov, or Ivancov as Funi called him, by the end of the episode.
The Magellan/Hannybon scene is going to annoy me for a very long time.
Funny episode. Buggy and Mr. 3 rubbing each other takes the cake!
Pretty good episode. Mr. 3 and Buggy made it worth watching, as others pointed out. I'm still wondering how they're going to handle the "newkama" thing.
Good episode. I'm not the first to say this, but Buggy and Mr.3=Comedy gold. Bon-chan's final scene of the episode was freaking awesome. Also, did anyone catch "The Pandaman" on the prisoner list?" XD
nice fun episode. mr 2's resolve and buggy and mr 3 gay rubing were funny
The Ivancov translation is absolutely baffling considering the english translation that was right in front of them as they first said it.

How could you not, lol. I'm glad they took that from the manga.

yeah, but it could be another thing Toei is forcing them to do.
But Toei wrote that latin name in the first place bangs head against wall.

Yeah I know, but we all know that their 'English Translation 10 Commandments" make about as much sense as this guy:
There's a lot of things I hate about dub Luffy. Arlong Park was completely ruined by Funi.
Them constantly replacing "nakama" with "friends" when "crew" or "shipmates" is more appropriate grates me to know end.
Let alone them making Zoro's VA talking through a pencil.
Gah, I'm not one to complain about the opennings or endings, but the FUNi Fish is aweful.

Woah, sorry to say this, dude, but you're kinda late to the party on that. Did the episode with that song just get uploaded or something?
Totally agree with you, BTW.
Just a reminder: dub watchers who can't afford the sets yet (or at least haven't seen Season 2 Pt 4), FUNimation is now streaming Ace in english
*At the current "pace" it looks like sometime in April is when the final eps of Alabasta will be available online, somewhere between 7-9 weeks depending on if they add 4 eps a week or 5.

I'm going by the streaming cause I'm too cheap and poor to buy DVD's.
Two things. Funimation has all of their old episodes up (you heard me right) from episode 1. And now they are up to 100. 100 plus (438-391) 47 is 147 episodes on the simulcast.
And I liked this episode. Buggy and Mr.3 both made me die with laughter yet again, and I loved the part where Nami 2/Bon Clay got Hannyabal.
But the big part I was looking forward was New Kama Land, and the new voices. Female Inazuma had a well-fitting sexy young voice.
I gotta say, I'm loving Ivankov's voice alot. It's kinda like a deeper, smoother version of Mr.2's voice. (Unsure how to describe it.)
Can't wait for next week. (Noticed Funi removed the New Kama part of the episode title.)

You missed that there is a gap between episodes 13 and 46.
@Mikey:

Oh, thanks, Mikey. Did not catch that.
So there's 114 episodes.
Damn was that a funny episode.
Ivan's voice was much better than I thought it would be. The music playing sounded something akin to the Rocky Horror Picture Show scene Oda based it off of.
And as usual Buggy and Mr. 3 make a good comedy duo.
Can't wait for next episode. Should handle the horrible scene with Luffy.
Whoa. .. . . Azumas a chick….. in the anime!!

I guess you mean Inazuma, and Inazuma was a chick in the Manga too.
Iva can change peoples genders. You're introduced to Inazuma as a man when he finds Bon and Luffy, but then when they wake up, Inazuma's become a woman temporarily for his first speaking part. We'll see Male-Inazuma soon.
That was a fun episode. I've been looking forward to seeing Ivankov and Inazuma for quite a while.
I can't wait to see next week when we should see Luffy's ordeal.
That was a great episode. I thought Iva's voice was slightly off, but it definitely fits. I enjoyed the background music for his introduction.

Yeah, that threw me off at first as well, mainly because I forgot that Inazuma also switches back and forth with genders.
Speaking of her/him, who plays female-Inazuma? Sounded similar to Robin for some reason, but I could be mistaken.

Just give it time. We have to see how the VA handles the serious scenes as well. But I think the voice will go well with all his/her scenes.
What on earth is Toei/Funi doing with Iva's name?
I realise Ivan is part of his name, but the actors are clearly saying Iva.
Also they keep mis-spelling Ivankov with a 'c', even though its been wriiten in english in the anime.
Speed subbing mistakes?

No, we've seen it consistently used as "Ivancov" for like, two episodes by now. And IIRC, even Viz is using "Ivan" for "Iva", so I think this might be a list situation.
The "C" thing is odd, because we've seen it written "Ivankov" on the paper the jailer was holding in the manga AND the anime, but "Ivan" seems fine to me.
Another thing I noticed that made me happy, they DID NOT Give Iva a random accent! Iva used SEVERAL "W" words in this episode without a single one replaced with "Vs".
I wonder what they'll do once he starts going "Vanata" and "Vatashi". Hopefully, we see them throw Vs into JUST words like "I, Me, You, Us, We" etc.
Toei/Funi pulls some weird shit and no mistake.
Okama was translated about five different ways in this episode alone.
Iva's voice was awesome though, getting a definite Rocky Horror vibe.

it was translated 5 different ways, but they were all accurate.
Actually, all I saw were "Queer", "Gay" and "Oh Come My Way" but that one was only for the fighting style.
Blame Toei's list, its really stupid.

I saw 'pansy' in there as well.
This list thing is kind of odd, is it the same for all series' brought over from Japan?

Well Toei is notorious for it but it definitely happens on other shows as well. A well known example would be the term Soul Reaper in Bleach although that apparently came from Tite Kubo himself and not the animation company.
I don't know why they don't just use 'Cross Dresser' for everything, it would be so simple.
Cross Dresser Kenpo
New Crossdresser Land
Crosser Dresser Queen
Ah for a simple life.
It doesn't work for "Newkama Land", but I don't see what the problem with "Queer" "Pansy" and "Gay" is. It sounds better in conversation to have them say more than one thing than to simply use the same thing in every situation.
It doesn't work for New Kama land because "Newkama" is a Triple pun.
Newhalf (Transsexual) + Kama (Crossdresser) = Newcomer.
Ah I suppose you're right.
The only one that bothers me is 'oh come my way'.
Why not just use any of the other translations of Okama.
Now that I think of it 'Pansy Kenpo' would be quite amusing.
Although it doesn't give of quite the right mental image….or maybe it does, lol.

If you notice, they ONLY do "Oh Come my Way" for "Okama Kenpo". But translate Okama every other time.
It's PROBABLY A list item.

Well, his Japanese speech-quirk didn't really show up at all in any of his lines this week, so of course they wouldn't do anything with it now. We should see how they handle it next week. But yeah, they SHOULD do it like "Vi is going to help vyour friend", but for some reason, I kinda doubt that's what they'll end up doing.
